Nice concept of keeping the fire alive ❤️
Good idea
It's complete, it's fun and thing that's happening in the game looks and feels like mondays, good job!
@kazimainul @theblackfrog Thank you!!
@lunarstrain Hahaha, mission succeeded then!!
Good idea. Very interactive - I like it the most. After 100 - hell begins and you begin to experience for real. Good job!
Good idea, te controls are super intuitive and well made, I love how you can play using only the mouse, no click required. The graphics and audio are very cool.
Nice job!
cool Game
This is such a clever idea! What a great minimalistic concept and so well executed! Favorite I've seen so far!
This is really cool and clever! It's always a balancing act between protecting your fire and replenishing it, in the end the elements won. The sound design is very relaxing, just having the natural noises. The animation of the waves on the coastline was a little hard on the eyes but that's about my only criticism. Great entry!
Excellent! Really enjoyed this game, this take on the theme. Nice graphics and smooth gameplay. Nice audio. Great work!
Actually reminds me a bit of my Ludum Dare 34 game "Petal Hill" https://fishbrain.itch.io/petal-hill
I liked mechanic that you only need mouse to play :D Art style is great, but it was impossible to keep flame alive because of wind blowing from 2 sides and rainy cloud on my fire.Maybe I'm bad at a games :D
If the fire for the BBQ, then it’s worth the efforts! Good job!
Fun concept! Nice graphics!
Is the main character a monkey? where did he find an umbrella? why is it alone? where does the thing on the top right bring? I guess these are questions we will never know ... But I have some feedback for you:
The idea is simple and this is really good in a jam, The main theme is within the scope of the Keep it alive. So top mark on this, then the endless mode really fits the scope of the game.
- Gameplay: I don't think the mouse is the right device to be playing with. I would have felt more comfortable with keys (or a gamepad), so I could have more control on directions. The mouse ruined a bit my experience. - Design: Feed the fire with wood, defend from water and wind :D I like when the desin is linear, coherent and effective! Good job. It's weird actually that wood just spawn, randomly on the island, wouldn't be better to get the guy make some wood from the palms? And talking about difficulties in keep the fire alive Sometimes is really unfair though when wind and water attack together, also because Fantozzi's rainy cloud is really slow so you need to stay there and defend the fire ( I think the rain is stronger than the wind in shutting the fire down). - Sounds: A chill music would have been a really good fit :( . I had to turn the sound down because the chill, cozy sound of the fire mixed up in an the high volume of wind, and annoying chirping of the birds. You should try to adjust the volume and blend them better together. - Graphics: The pixel art is nice, on point and it does the job :)
I did 98.4 on the first try. And 129 in the second.. Is it... good ? It would be nice to have a leaderboard :)
I even found out you are Italians, bravi ragazzi! Complimenti.
edit: better formatting
Good thing they had that umbrella!
wow that's nice idea !great work XD
This was a fun game and I particularly liked the artstyle here. Graphically everything just clicked together. The audio cues for everything happening on the screen were also on point. The only problem with gameplay was that at quite a few points, you could've had 2 or sometimes even 3 hazards occurring at the same time, which is impossible to defend (but maybe that was the point). Got a highscore of 170.9, which ended due to getting hit by everything at the same time.

Liked the art and the creativity of using the umbrella in two ways. Nice ambient wind sounds.
sound effects and idea is solid
It took me a while to understand how the game worked but I loved the visual elements, so I'll keep playing a bit more to grasp the gameplay. Definitively I could use some tutorial tips :3
Great idea having to block the fire from wind and rain. Took me a while to realise you could replenish the fire using wood as well.
@notapixelstudio Thanks for the detailed feedback, much appreciated!
> Is the main character a monkey?
It's supposed to be the character from our first game, [SleepOver](http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-32/?action=preview&uid=51345), but yeah, only we knew :smile:
> where did he find an umbrella? where does the thing on the top right bring?
Well, obviously there's a cabin full of ombrellas up there.
> I don’t think the mouse is the right device to be playing with
We chose the mouse since it was faster to implement and allows for faster reaction time, in our opinion. There are some comment appreciating it, so I guess it's subjective.
> It’s weird actually that wood just spawn, randomly on the island, wouldn’t be better to get the guy make some wood from the palms?
Absolutely, we agree on that. Having more time, we surely had worked on a crafting mechanic (i.e. you need to spend some times under the palms to get it) or at least make the spawning position less random (i.e. near palms). Also, we'd loved to make the player carry more than one stick, or be able to drop it if he suddenly need the umbrella.
> Sometimes is really unfair though when wind and water attack together, also because Fantozzi’s rainy cloud is really slow so you need to stay there and defend the fire (I think the rain is stronger than the wind in shutting the fire down)
Yes, the longer you last, the less fair it is. Maybe with more time on our hands we could have developed a system to avoid simultaneous events (which currently are randomized with decreasingly interval as time passes). But we also liked the idea that the game couldn't last much long, we find it appropriate for the quick runs the voters expect here, while trying many many games one after the other :wink:
> Sounds: A chill music would have been a really good fit :( . I had to turn the sound down because the chill, cozy sound of the fire mixed up in an the high volume of wind, and annoying chirping of the birds.
We had a [calypso-themed music](https://freesound.org/people/4barrelcarb/sounds/365361/) in-game, but we decided to remove it since 1) it's not chill and 2) it covered much of the nice sounds we used unless mixed at a volume so low that made it pointless. Other here appreciated, so I guess it's personal. However we are opting-out of audio ratings, since all we used is taken from public domain.
> I did 98.4 on the first try. And 129 in the second.. Is it… good ?
We usually score around 200, but we played it a lot. Pro tips: 1) use your time before the storms (~100) to prepare for them: keep the fire at max and avoid picking up nearby sticks if possible, go for the further ones; 2) it's true that clouds damage the fire a lot more than wind initially, but wind is increasingly more powerful as time passes!
Thanks again for the comment!
@jbdev It would be awesome to know what was confusing to you in the learning on how to play or in the tutorial, so that in the future we can be clearer. Also if you have some idea on how to teach the game better it would be also greatly welcomed.
A beautiful game, and I love the controls. Kudos to your UX person / whoever came up with this control scheme, some might have set up a system with separate keys to shield from wind, from rain, and to collect wood, and you managed to do all of it by just following the cursor. Very smooth!
Nice little game. The concept is very simple, but it works perfectly. As always, a plus from me for stylish pixels. I didn't lose, but lasted a very long time. The gameplay is monotonous, but fully consistent with the theme.
Got 167. Pretty nice, unique gameplay. I ran into situation where the fire was under 2 clouds and I didn't have any wood on the ground to burn. Sound effects remind me of Runescape for some reason :)
Cheers!
Good job! Sound is just perfect, I like the art, intuitive controls, you had good idea with them.
Easy and fun also looks good and sounds good
Lovin those top down graphics!
The game is very fun to play good job ! But it can be very hard when it's raining and the wind blows at the same time ...
Nice game! :D My highscore was 173. One thing I found annoying was that it rains and the wind blows at the same time, which makes you feel powerless (although removing it would make the game too easy I think) and at times there was no wind or rain and no wood to pickup, so you got nothing to do.
Really fun and entertaining, good ambient, nice graphics and audio :D I agree with @lorwon about the rain and wind at the same time it's a real issue. Good job!
Nice Concept My High Score 179. :v:
Nice, I was able to reach 195 but after that I died. The controls work well and the sound was relaxing. But it is sad that it is impossible to actually keep the fire alive even if played very well. At some point too many storms and wind and not enough wood kill you. Maybe a bit more balance would help.
Game was fun and i liked the graphics and sounds, especially the sound of the falling rain, which felt just right. The game did get a bit one dimensional, and there was a clear way to do it that i figured out quite quickly:
``` if(RainFalling) { ProtectFire(UmbrellaStatus.Up);
} else if (Blowing) { ProtectFire(UmberllaStatus.Side);
} else { GatherWood();
} ```
Overall, a well crafted and polished experience, would play again :)
High score: **134.9s**
Got a high score of 181.3. I lost against two consecutive rain clouds and the wind at the same time. The experience was oddly relaxing, knowing exactly what needed to be done as the algorithm is fairly simple. I also liked the umbrella idea. I like the ambiant sound of the wind / water / etc. It adds up nicely and I felt I was on the island :)
Very good game ,realaxing and peacefull, graphics and sound make beautifull ambiant. Not really difficult but in many times events are too many event to manage simultany, and the wood become rare. Idea is great ! gg.jpg
Very funny game. Had no troubles to understand how it works. Managed to get up to 160 on first run :) Then everthing hit together. The grafics fits the theme. Gameplay was neat, no bugs, and the handling was smooth.
That was a good and unique experience, thank you!
Felt like the character could be a bit more relatable if the game would be with a side view rather than top-down, and it would be a kid.
And perhaps, the wood could've been washed over from the ocean rather than spawn from thin air, too!
I believe this game strtives to create a good atmosphere and immersion, some music and day/light cycle could also help quite a bit. Good luck!
Best game so far, well balanced and funny!
Good job guys!
I am going to level with you here - I have played a lot of games in this game jam that involved defending a stationary object - so I went in to this with lukewarm expectations - but I was blown away (both puns intended). This game is so well polished - I love the responsiveness of the controls and the "snapping" for the umbrella over the bonfire. I played it the entire time with a huge smile on my face. I found your game from the ambient sound blog post and wow, the ambient sound was absolutely nailed. Phenomenal job.
Good execution of the theme. The game is fairly simple and easy to pick up. Balancing wise, it's kinda hard to defend both rain and wind coming at you at the same time. Maybe having wood coming a little bit more often would of help with the balancing. Especially after surviving a few waves of both wind and rain. Overall, pretty good game, good job on the audio too. Cheers!
Very Nice, we got a similar idea.
Interesting entry. Controlling the character felt a lot smoother than I expected, and the sound effects were great. Only thing I didn't like so much was that the wind and rain often came at the same time so it didn't really feel like what I did made a huge difference. Felt like I was damned if I did, damned if I didn't.
Nice concept! Great graphics and game play! Good job!
Rather simple, but fun while it lasted. The game was really elevated by the art and great sound design. Loved the atmospheric sounds of the rain and wind. Great job! The core game play itself was already fully explored after 10 seconds or so, therefore it would be a good idea to vary the events a little to keep the player on his toes. Other than that, already a very good and polished experience. Great sound and art to round things up.
Nice game ! The concept is cool, I just don't know how to protect the fire of the rain and the wind in the same time. :/ Well done !
