A really cool game and probably the best to play at 4 am^^ The sounddesign is wonderful and the gameplay is good aswell. The only thing i would improve is the animation quality for the bear. A jumping/falling animation would be nice.
Thanks, great feedback, it was the first time for our artist doing animation, and it's mighty me consuming so we kept it to 3 frames and walking. But yes, smoother would be more polished =)
I actually enjoyed playing this game. It has the basics of a regular "catch'em" game but the added maintenance and powerups really took it to another level. Having the player become stronger over time is a real plus and keeps the game fresh. I also appreciated letting the player know what to do in game. The UI was really helpful. This is a great entry!

Comfortable graphics and kind tips. A little bit simple for the gameplay, also not so enjoyable to control.
Hey Celvin thanks for taking the time to reply, and that you liked the tips system and graphics. Could you explain what you found no enjoyable about the controls?
Nice game! Simple and easy to understand and the art is very much pleasing to look at! The platforming felt quite floaty but other than that it was an enjoyable experience, great work team!
The art reminds me of paintings from a childs storybook, incredibly charming and nice to see a different look. The UI was displayed nicely and I was quickly able to understand the goal. I did find the jump to be abit too floatly, almost felt like i was gliding around the map! Still, fun to play :)

I like the symplicity of your game, i think the only thing I would improve is some more animations to the character, like a jump/fall animation. Besides that, a really smart little game :)
@andre-fremaux, hi! :) Thanks for taking the time to play & reply. Yes, the artwork by @veeramandadraws was really tremendous; something we've all enjoyed thoroughly, so thanks for noticing. Also... your 'floaty jumps' feedback will be taken into consideration.
When I joined the project, I told the team how delightfully floaty it was, so that's partly my fault (and I'm just a composer / music producer so what do I know about gravity?!! Lolz
Cheers! stop by to play & listen again sometime.
@louiejams Hmmm, totally! nice comparison to children's STORYBOOKS. I can totally see that. Like "Corduroy," maybe? Did you have a specific one in mind? It is a different look, yea? That's the art work of the talented @veeramandadraws
Glad you had fun even float-jumping around! LOlz

Cute game! I would have preferred a taller aspect ratio, given that the gameplay is mostly vertical!
@sodap thanks for the feedback, understood - I try and build mobile support for my web games usually so 900x400 is a reasonable ratio for mobile phones. Unfortunately we didn't get to put in the mobile controls :(. Glad you liked it
Great game with graphics that fit well for the purposed theme too, I can see kids learning with it to take care of trees ^^
The gameplay and music is nice, one thing I would improve are the animations for the bear. Great game though.
Congrats on your first jam mate. Solid entry, it's quite well polished. There is a bit of a snowball effect in the game right now, if you are doing good, it's very unlikely that you will lose, and if you start off bad, you won't be able to keep up with the tree dying rate, this kind of creates a flow problem.

@johnnydalvi that's true, it's somewhat like that intentionally. Even a non gamer can enjoy the game (it's not overly stressful) for 2+ minutes which is the kind of balance we wanted, but we also wanted there to be a difficulty to it that meant with a lot of skill and some early luck, you could do very very well. I personally don't think it's possible to exceed 6 minutes and no one has proven me wrong yet. This does make it feel really short lived but without some form of expansion into permanent power ups and different levels, I think that's how I want a casual LD game to be (especially my first!). Double massive thanks again to @veeramandadraws for her first time ever doing gamer art and it came out stunning, and for @flyingkiwi and @tom-stroll to lend their expertise and experience.

Nice game, easy to play and understand. Love the music and that "haind painted" graphic style, they are cute. The walk animation looks a bit weird but it's funny at the same time! Good job overall!

The art was lovely! The platforming needs a bit more work to feel good, though - it's a bit floaty. I liked the idea of collecting rain drops! I wasn't sure how exactly to water the tree, sometimes it used my water and sometimes it didn't. I think I had to come from above to water it. Make sure we also get the difference in effect between fertilizer and water

Cute game. Although the platforming felt a bit floaty

good fun! I love the look, and the power-ups are a nice touch. The sound design is also nice. The music was nice at first, but I would like to hear a bit more variation in the saxophone parts.
@yodog, Thanks for your time! :) Totally agree and I wrote another part that gets real funky. Hoping to have a chance to incorporate it for the next version.

Cool game!
I really liked the visuals and the theme. The music is fine for this type of game.
Two things I'd like to see polished: - the objective is not completely clear - it was not clear to me what the tree was missing, if it was water or fertilizer. Also, it was not clear what effect had watering/fertilizing it, and if there was any advantage in bringing three fertilizers at once over bringing one three times. - the controls are not very tight, and the koala is still moonwalking and sliding around.
@ondrasej thanks for the feedback!
Yeah the koala could be perfected more - but for a first time game artist requesting 12 frames of images felt a bit rough. The moonwalking effect from pressing left/right is definately on the programming side, we had it on the bug list but prioritied in the final 4 hours :)
To explain the mechanics a bit - I didn't want to write a manual, a game should be pickup and play, but its hard to achieve in 72 hours.
Poo fertilises the tree for more points than water, but you can only carry less of it and it takes you futher away from rain collection points - so its a balance up to the player.
Like a tree in life, it only gives you apples if it it's health enough to produce them, so over like 80% health or there abouts.
Catchin' raindrops is hard work! Cute game... where does that fertilizer come from...?

Really well done little cute game. First of all: - I love the special abilities every one helps a lot. - Nice twist to the "keep the plant alive". There are many games about plants but yours gives unique platformer style gameplay with special abilities this is the strongest feature of the game imho. - Good fitting graphics - sets up the mood - my only issue is controlling the character. Could be more responsive especially jumping. Also would be nice to be harmed for example if you jump on a wrong tile you "die" and have to respawn (3 seconds delay)
Just a loose suggestion tho. Good job!

Nice relaxing game. Something about the jumping felt slightly off. Also would have made it a bit tougher if you couldn't just jump through platforms. Having the clouds in view at all times would also add a dimension to be able to help you identify where the raindrops were going to come from perhaps?
Loved the game though! Music was great and as mentioned by someone else above a very much storybook style of graphics which was well suited to the game.
It's more like flying koala then jumping :) The gameplay seemed a bit easy, I managed to keep the tree as long as I wanted without buying boosters. Anyway, it was fun and good looking one!
A super simple and fun game :) Love the art style, and theme. I will admit the concept is a little out there - a koala catching rain and poo to take care of a tree lol. If I could also mention some critique, it's not very clear what you're meant to do. Took me a few tries to understand, oh I need to keep jumping up and collecting rain then dropping it back off.. Overall though, a nice entry.

Fun little game with a nice environmental angle. Very cute and accessible gameplay. I thought the powerups were not that helpful, high jumps were hard to judge a landing. Nice art and great music. Would be interesting to see where you took it from here!
The graphics are absolutely adorable. I didn't really like the jumping. It felt like the koala is weightless - I guess it's because of the slow animation or something along this lines. But otherwise, I have no complaints and I did my best to take care of the tree!
Incidentally, we also made a game about protecting a tree for this jam :)

I love how cute your panda is! Killing it for leaving battlefield is so cruel.
The world is limited to the right, but not the left. I could walk forever in that direction. The jumping feels a bit floaty, would be nice if the gravitation was a bit higher. The power ups didn't feel really worth using.
Other than that it's quite fun little game
Thanks for playing, it seems quite a few didn't like the gravity effect of Craftyjs, interesitn feedback might have to look at a more fluid system in the future (but its ludum dare, thats a mad rush anyhow!)
The world should be limited both ways, maybe its a bug, nice play testing!
The power up's are your only real hope of keeping the much beloved apple tree alive more than 3 minutes
