It's a good speed & the stakes feel pretty high in this one. Nice! :)

@dylan-fries, are you a duo with your sibling? cousin? parent?
Cool villains & concept, they remind me of the robo-octopai villains in the Matrix. Visually, I like starting from the wide shot to give scale to the scene, but maybe it should zoom right in to the ship so you can see what you're doing or at least give player some control of the cam, or make the ship a lighter shade of grey? I found myself maxing out screen brightness and still squinting and I have damn good eyes, but maybe that's the intention of "Ghost Ship?"
Were those refueling/re-energizing platforms? Not sure they all worked or if I
I'm surprised there wasn't a crash/explosion sound. If there's one more sound fx to add, it's that one. The music set a good mood until the granular synthesis stuff; that got painful to hear pretty fast.
Seems you can fly through the concrete of those abandoned structures, but not fly through mountains. Really nice alien landscape, there. eerie as hell.
Also, thanks for playing our game. Glad you liked it. :)
@dylan-fries linked the game in my bio as you requested/suggested. Ambient engine sound would be a higher or equal priority to crashing for sure. Good call. I like that the early punishment is having that first mountain right in front of you (that's where I crashed first and it felt right, Lolz)
Does losing yourself in the shadows actually protect you from those red-eyed robots? Can you hide from them or will they find you either way? (Not that there's enough fuel to 'hide') Maybe there should be a way to coast further if you stop touching arrows, but changing direction is what makes you sink & crash?
@andre-fremaux, hi! :) Thanks for taking the time to play & reply. Yes, the artwork by @veeramandadraws was really tremendous; something we've all enjoyed thoroughly, so thanks for noticing. Also... your 'floaty jumps' feedback will be taken into consideration.
When I joined the project, I told the team how delightfully floaty it was, so that's partly my fault (and I'm just a composer / music producer so what do I know about gravity?!! Lolz
Cheers! stop by to play & listen again sometime.
@louiejams Hmmm, totally! nice comparison to children's STORYBOOKS. I can totally see that. Like "Corduroy," maybe? Did you have a specific one in mind? It is a different look, yea? That's the art work of the talented @veeramandadraws
Glad you had fun even float-jumping around! LOlz
@yodog, Thanks for your time! :) Totally agree and I wrote another part that gets real funky. Hoping to have a chance to incorporate it for the next version.
Disorienting in the best possible way! Lolz!! @adamcyounis, you've done it again! :) Loved watching your twitch channel too.
This game is clever as hell, though there wasn't a clear win moment for me. Not sure if it's even possible to win.
Loved how quickly you recover after 'dying' I love the memory art and how the illumination pools over it. Thanks for the fun. -NeitherNorth
Great fun @civmaniac , Love the alternative style you've created here. Not your typical Wizard game or Plant survival game. :) It's tough, but I can see the path to improving my success rate. The tree looks perfectly whimsical. Great premise. I would shorten the intro by 25%. Maybe consolidate the text or cut out the fat? or speed up some of the less-important frames of text?
Addictive indeed. I even interrupted myself writing comments to play it again. HA!!
Also, the mandolin & stereo acoustic guitars for that American Roots feel creates a really nice environment. The sfx being louder in the mix would raise the stakes a bit, I think. Might be nice to have some looming drones to make it a bit more scary/eerie from time to time...maybe as the tree wilts?
@tom-stephenson This was seriously frightening. My heart was racing while evading the spider. Nicely done! That said, because of the Limbo influence on aesthetic, you may want to consider imagining alternative villains to avoid the easy comparison OR tweaking aesthetic more to further distinguish the two projects; I think the contrasting game mechanic is a very good start to that end.
...not that Limbo OWNS the rights to giant b&w spider stories. ...nor was it the first.
The map is very expansive for the short time we had. It felt like a real exciting journey. I like that the game starts with us plummeting into the depths of this cave. That sets a great tone!
I also wish I knew when I was running low/out of objects to throw. There should be some instruction to start the game, not just below the screen, I think.
Alternating splats or having varying degrees of splats depending on velocity could be a good solution. And regarding a wider range of spider sound palettes, etc, feel free to contact me for music & sound fx in the future if interested.
Love the flowers, Nice banjo slide & harmonic rhythm in the music! :) The game mechanics are very clear, but it seems very difficult or impossible to win and I played 3 times with a pretty good strategy I think. I guess they need food more than water??
The subject of the game seems super obvious for the theme, but surely because planting (& planting trees especially) is such an important theme to address climate change... who cares about originality when it could actually help our species survive, amiright?! haha
Thanks for playing our game, @conor-galvin
@conor-galvin, Your first? Nice! it was my first jam too, and I'll admit, I wrote some more adventurous music, but weaving it in at last minute seemed risky given that I didn't know how frequent the raindrop sounds would be (thought it might be too busy overall, but in hindsight I think it would've been fine). This is great for a first game jam. No shame at all. Certainly it's more than I can program. Lolz
