The voice mechanics was a nice change of pace in an LD game. The voice acting was also a great addition.
I was unable to get the bounty due to the number of enemies that swarm you. It would be nice if you could say a direction and your robot would move until you say a new direction or stop.

2019-04-29 14:02
@aplite I did toy with the idea of having move in one direction till you say stop, not sure if it would have played better or not, I also liked the marching/commander feel of saying commands. The best course of action is to say defend and let the slugs push you around. Thanks for playing.

Hi, I couldn't get the game to work, do you have to use voice commands to start?
dk5000p
2019-04-29 15:33
@aaron96 Yes, will have to check this when I get home. I had no issues. Might need to check this.

Definitely one of the more unique games in this jam! I did however find in unresponsive as whenever i say something it wouldnt do it fast enough, sometimes it wouldnt do it at all. My mic is a good one and i don't have an accent of sorts so i think its the game that fails to recognise my directions. This has a lot of potential!
dk5000p
2019-04-29 16:35
@Lubaka Thanks for playing, might be a training on the recognition, so the more times you play the better it is. I tested it with just my computer mic and overall it responded pretty well. Voice recognition isn't the best and definitely was a risk choosing that as the controls. It was cool tech to work with, though. Thanks for playing and happy you could actually play. What was your best score?

I like the idea, I wanted to make a game based on voice a few months ago, I finally didn't even try but your game reminded me of that haha
I guess it was pretty hard to do and get to work, because the game doesn't look really polished imo, but it was fun to play anyway ! This indeed has potential so I'd be curious to see what you can do with more time, maybe keep on working on it !

loved the idea, well done ^_^

@saering The voice commands actually were pretty easy to implement but a lot of time was making sure it was working properly. So yeah a lot time was spent playtesting and the fact I am not an artist makes it tough for the game to look super polished.
Very fun game! I played it on stream and it was really hilarious (expecially because english is not my first language hahaha), as i said on stream too, up would have been better than forward to say, also you should be able to say a direction only once and then say stop if you want to stop, in this way you have to spam less with your voice, either this or increasing the distance with each move (or the possibility of saying a number after the command so you can do more movements with a single command), however very fun entry!

Interesting idea. Good job!
The voice commands is a neat idea, I haven't seen that before. I would've liked for the direction commands to have your character continue in that direction until you give it a different command. It would've made controlling it a little easier I think.

@somefarang That seems to be the consensus and I had that idea but didn't decide to test it.

Really fun idea. I like the the voice commands so much.

2019-04-30 19:19
@retti01 Thanks for playing, yeah might be something interesting to incorporate into a different type of game and not have it be the whole control system. Fire seemed to work pretty well, so could have gone with standard controls to move up and down and just had fire be voice controlled, it also is a good solution to an ammo system.

Its a brilliant idea!
But up and right is not working. I sayed it in many variations, but it did not work.
And it would be so much easier to play and I think it would get a better rating and more people would play it if you could play the game directly in the browser. With Unity you can simply change your game in the build settings to WEP-GL and upload it to e. g. itch.io or simmer.io..
dk5000p
2019-04-30 20:38
@davidus Sadly I cannot make a web version, given that this uses windows speech for the speech recognition it cannot be played in the browser. Maybe there is a free asset on the unity store I could have used instead. Thanks for trying to play, at what point did the game not work for you?
davidus
2019-04-30 21:47
@dk5000p OK sry i didn't know that. As i said right the carecter did not move, sometimes he move to the left, but most of the time nothing happemd and as I said up also nothig happend.
dk5000p
2019-04-30 22:03
@davidus You have to say forward
That was.. interesting. lol. I really like the voice command thing! Although saying down down down over and over can get a little weird, but I still like the idea. The voiceover was hilarious too.

@nayaki-anandan Thanks for playing, I'll have to watch the video.

2019-04-30 23:17
Really cool idea. Would be nice if it moved a bit further per command

@jkazuk Thanks, yeah I should have tried that.
Thank you for submitting your game to be played on my stream!

It's awesome that you could do all that in just a compo! I've been playing for a while, it's pretty hard, specially for the enemies zerging on me, maybe you could make them trigger once you get close enough. also, sometimes you are not hitting them just for a millimetre, you could try making the projectile as big as the character (just to make everything easier). Anyway, what you did in just 2 days is insane! GJ
dk5000p
2019-05-01 22:56
@xarras Yeah, definitely could have been some better balancing, defending and shooting helps. You have to anticipate a lot. Thanks for playing. Still working to upload some gameplay footage.

Great job! Really awesome you got that all to work. I using forward for up and down instead of back messed me up a bit. My brain wants say either up and down or forward and back. Only other suggestion is that the player moves too slow, if you get a bounty that is off screen it is really hard to get them on screen before you are swarmed with enemies. Well done.
dk5000p
2019-05-02 12:52
@vimlark Thanks for the comments. It seems the consensus is to have the player move more, the best probably would be to have a stop command. Yeah, I also got a suggestion of North, South, East, and West, which might work.
"FORWARD! RIGHT! RIGHT! RIGHT! SHOOT! LEFT!..." - me while playing this game.
dk5000p
2019-05-02 14:51
@langotriel Sounds about right, hope you didn't get too frustrated.
It's an interesting idea to use voice commands, it's not often used. Unfortunately that's because it doesn't always work. In my case I couldn't get the game to start. I sayed "start" and "say start" and "bounty hunter". Maybe "for f sake just work" is the magic term, but I didn't try that.
dk5000p
2019-05-02 15:24
@mika-la-grand Do you have multiple mics on your machine, you need to make sure you choose the correct default mic. I know it might be a pain.
YES! FORWARD! RIGHT! RIGHT! RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!
This game is really funny. Cool experiment for a game jam! A+ voice acting. I really loved it :D
Really innovative! We had some troubles but had a lot of fun and it's impressive what you made !

@geist-191 and @dr4g0nsoul It was great watching you play the game on stream, I was happy you were able to get past the start screen and play.
It was fun to play it on the stream, thank you for joining and posting your game. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well the voice controls worked, first time ever playing a voice only game. Great job!
dk5000p

@simon-rahnasto I was also pleasantly surprised how well the controls worked for you and you were able to collect a few bounties. Thanks for playing.

My gosh ! Reading your comments , i was expecting to live something peacefull and experimental, using voice control. Instead i was in hell for my 20 minute playthrought but it was hilarious (especially with my french accent which doesn't help).
Pretty singular entry in that ludum dare, i like the idea of having real time ennemies, while you yelling at your microphone to get away, it's so stressfull :')
Impressed by the technology too, recognizing specific words is something ! Well done
dk5000p
2019-05-04 10:15
@hpmnk Thanks for playing, did you stream it? Would love to watch the playthrough. It has been a joy watching streamers play this entry. Yeah, it might be too stressful, really needed to make the character faster.
Very simple but great design. Good entry- and good luck next jam too! :)

You've got full score for innovation from me. Nice idea!
dk5000p
2019-05-07 19:34
@kuro Thanks, that was my goal for this Ludum Dare, initially wanted to have an AI you would argue with but ended up implementing a top down shooter instead, making sure the voice controls worked was important, luckily there were not too many difficulties and appears most people ended up being able to play the game.
What a truly unique and fun, but equally frustrating experience. Thank you for that, this was exactly what my evening needed, and I didn't even know it!
dk5000p
2019-05-07 20:05
@andidebob Thanks for playing. Happy it was at least fun. I understand that it can be frustrating. When you are the developer you know the cheats, such as shielding and shooting at the same time. Also, the game was quite responsive to my voice and I know it cannot be said to be the same for everyone. I am happy I made your day a little better.
Great Job! It's unique, fun, and challenging. Definitely 5 stars innovation. I was taken a bit off guard by the voice controls tbh. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I clicked start like 15 times before I read "say start" lol. I'm surprised by how responsive the voice recognition was, though. I wasn't expecting it to work very well, but it heard me more times than not. The voice acting was also a really nice touch. I had a lot of fun playing it.

@muchoswaffles Thanks a lot for playing. Yeah the voice commands worked really well for me and was surprised how well it worked for most streamers. Seems I made the game a little too tough.
Thanks for submitting the game to our stream. Unfortunately - as you know - the voice commands did not work very well for me so I could not rate all categories.

HOLY CRAP. This was the best game of the jam so far
dk5000p
2019-05-09 12:54
@whynotyt I am happy you enjoyed playing it. I had fun making it and was nice to learn something new.
Its definetely an interesting concept, I cant say however that i am a fan of it however, at least for me, it is awkward and weird to use voice to control something.
dk5000p
2019-05-09 18:32
@olavdeng2 Was it cause it wasn't very responsive or just didn't like repeating words?
@dk5000p In general, it is extremely awkward and weird for me to just talk to a PC, so it is probably that, might just be me however
dk5000p
2019-05-09 19:25
@olavdeng2 Thanks for the feedback
Nice voice controls!

2019-05-11 09:59
Interesting experiment. Would have been good if the commands were on-screen while playing. The enemies could have moved slower in the start so you could get used to the controls. Good job!
dk5000p
2019-05-11 14:11
@dorkulon That would have been a good idea, I know a lot of people forgot the commands. Thanks for playing.

@peterfonts Thanks for playing, yeah it has a frantic feel but not for all the right reasons.
corny
2019-05-21 18:46
Aww, it doesn't seem to register my voice (it might be due to the fact that my microphone is garbage)... Which is a huge shame because I was really hyped to play this one, the concept alone seems so fresh!
dk5000p
2019-05-21 18:52
@corny Did it not start? I have steps for setting your default mic.
corny
2019-05-21 19:22
@dk5000p Yeah, it did start and I made sure my mic was set up correctly... It does add a hearty bit of noise to everything I say and it records extremely quietly (even when the levels are turned up to the max) so I wouldn't blame that on your game
dk5000p
2019-05-21 19:49
@corny Well, thanks for trying.
