| Dec 5 21:11:55 | Mortal Komba | ♥ 1 | Lovely graphics and great take on the theme! I was surprised (in a good way) the moment the second character appeared and caught me off-guard. That was clever! :) Brilliant entry, congratulations! | |
| Dec 5 21:38:29 | 26m 34s | Student Simulator | ♥ 2 | Interesting take on the theme :) I thought I'd managed to get the right balance between sleeping and becoming stressed through massive coffee consumption...and then I ****ed up only a couple of clicks away from delivering the project -_-UU You have a good starting point here if you decide to expand it or dress it up with some graphics in the future (the time increasing as you drank coffee reminded me of a Futurama episode). Congrats! |
| Dec 5 22:58:48 | 1h 20m | Little Pleasures | ♥ 1 | At first I thought I was doing something wrong, but as I progressed everything started to click and I must say that I really like the dark undertone of the game, the final messages being a fitting icing on the cake. Very interesting take on the theme, congrats! :) |
| Dec 5 23:43:00 | 44m 12s | Gather the Darkness | ♥ 0 | I also had a crash after dying on the second level :S Back to the game, I really like the concept and the lighting effects, linking them to the mechanics is a plus to me. The controls were easy to grasp and felt smooth, and while the sound effects could be improved, they did serve their purpose as a source of feedback. Nice job! |
| Dec 6 02:08:51 | 2h 25m | Addtris+++ [Now with post Compo Update] | ♥ 1 | I'm afraid I won't rate the audio because of the music (which sucks, because I love the song), but everything else is amazing. Graphics were top quality, and you added a great, theme-fitting twist to Tetris. I think I noticed an occasional bug when placing the shapes where more blocks would be set than the ones on the shape, but other than that it all felt pretty solid. Congratulations! |
| Dec 6 02:25:01 | 16m 10s | Jazzy Beats | ♥ 5 | I loved the presentation, the art style was brilliant. I really liked the game idea as well, even if the theme connection was a bit forced. The combat system in the end came down to wait for the ultimate skill to refill to convert everyone in one go. However, it is super-easy to see how with some improvements to that and the enemies' behaviour this could evolve into a very interesting game. Despite these comments, I do believe your entry has a lot of potential and I hope you keep improving it. Congrats! |
| Dec 6 14:05:10 | 11h 40m | Infernus: The Descent | ♥ 1 | Attempting a NSFW work was a bold move (Admittedly, there were a couple of WTF moments π ), but the art is good and it looks like you clearly put some effort on having the systems ready (story/map/combat modes, inventory, combat, etc). Unfortunately, it is harmed by the lack of animations or audio, but that's something you can keep working on after the jam. Good work! |
| Dec 6 14:26:06 | 20m 56s | Clicker Thingie | ♥ 2 | I could just copy and paste @seannoonan's comment here, because it matched my opinion almost to the letter. I really liked how the game targets both its own genre (I've only played a few, mostly for work, and I think the main reason why I dislike the genre is because it exposes how vulnerable we can be to their compulsion-creating devices) and real-life resource overexploitation. As I kept unlocking options and buying stuff I started feeling increasingly worse, which is a very obvious (and strong) take on the theme. There were some minor UI thingies that others have already mentioned, and some audio/music would have been nice to set the mood, but other than that you've got a very interesting entry here. Great work! |
| Dec 6 15:01:33 | 35m 27s | Prinsen Gulden | ♥ 1 | The music is nice, and I like the character design. Level generation was a great addition as well, but I had some isues with the controls, especially when trying to reach a platform immediately above the one I was standing on. In a couple of games I also was unable to pick the gold, it seemed to be at a Z closer to the camera than the character was, so it just wasn't able to reach it. I'm sure most of these issues can be fixed (haven't checked the post-compo yet, so maybe you've already addressed them) and there's a lot of work here for 48h and 1 person, so congratulations! :) |
| Dec 6 15:14:36 | 13m 03s | Sugarplum Summit | ♥ 2 | A shoot-em-up with that art style was bound to get my attention :D The graphics are super-cute, I love them! The plot twist at the end was also a very nice touch: as I was playing the level I kept me thinking about the plot connection, and then there it was π Gameplay-wise, sometimes it was hard to determine if your hits were landing or not, the animation changes on the enemies were subtle. Also, it felt a bit slow to me. However, despite these two things, I really liked the entry. Awesome job! |
| Dec 6 15:38:21 | 23m 45s | Murder Milk | ♥ 1 | Great mix of cute and creepy art, I really liked it! Sounds also felt polished. As for controls, they were mostly responsive except for the jump, which as others have said, was a bit too floaty (the height was maybe too much but I didn't really see it as a problem). It's a pity you couldn't manage to get an ending, you'd set some high expectations with the "come to mama" visions :D Cool work! |
| Dec 6 15:45:59 | 7m 38s | Tendril | ♥ 0 | I had to re-read a couple of times to get the hang of it (my fault!), and once I got the hang of it I have to say that the mechanic was quite original, with some interesting potential for expanding. I also appreciated the relaxing vibe, the ambient music was a great touch. I got the impression that sometimes the grow rate/destruction feedback took some time to show, which made me doubt if I'd actually failed at directing the tendrils. Other than this everything else feels pretty solid. You've done a really nice work, well done! |
| Dec 6 16:15:16 | 29m 17s | Cracks | ♥ 1 | I got invested on the story with every click of the button, I was anticipating some kind of surprise at the end, and the cynic in me was expecting something more "mundane" (can't find a more appropriate work), so the hopeful and heart-felt revelation was a welcome twist. The art style was effective, and the music was charming. Great job! |
| Dec 6 16:58:50 | 43m 34s | Holiday Parking Panic! | ♥ 0 | On my first try I had issues finding where was my car, this is asking for the "car unlock" lights and sound effects from modern cars π Now seriously, I've had a lot of fun playing. Controls work well, and while the bump detection was oversensitive at times the gameplay felt very solid overall. All the chaos with the other cars mimicked the Christmas shopping rush perfectly, which was a brilliant touch combined with the Xmas music. This is a great entry, congrats! |
| Dec 6 17:08:30 | 9m 40s | Problems? | ♥ 0 | The idea is a brilliant take on the theme. I enjoyed the "time management meets tetris" mechanic a lot. I didn't get to use the Delegate boxes (probably that's why I didn't get past 1000-thousand π ), and I think that at one point on my first game the player token got bugged and overlapped with one of the pieces. Other than that, this is one of the most interesting entries I've played so far. Amazing work! |
| Dec 6 17:23:52 | 15m 22s | Panic Blocks | ♥ 1 | Great idea, with amazing graphics and a lot of polish overall. You already mentioned it, but with some retro sound and music you would have nailed it. I hope you can continue working on it, it has a lot of potencial. Great job! |
| Dec 6 18:04:26 | 40m 34s | Lost Sakura | ♥ 1 | 13 kills :3 Nice game!. The graphics were beautiful, and the slashing sounds were very rewarding. At the beginning I got the impression that sometimes the letters weren't being highlighted although I could here the sound and notice a small motion, perhaps that part bugged occasionally. Great entry! |
| Dec 6 18:36:33 | 32m 07s | Tic-Tac-Matrix | ♥ 1 | This entry shows some serious promise. The level of polish is amazing, more so for a compo entry, and the core mechanic sounds fun and very original in theory. When I played, however, I got the impression that making matches in the end mostly came down to luck with the RNG giving you some good matrices. As you've already mentioned on the comments, perhaps some smart dealing would help this. Also, I'm afraid that the amount of arithmetics involved (especially when matrix multiplication an option) can be overwhelming and break the flow of the game, as most players will resort to pen and paper or a 3x3 matrix calculator to precompute the possible results (that only for their turn. If they also wanted to make a pass at anticipating the rival that would be insane) In any case, I really dig what the game sets out to do. I'm sure that these things I've pointed can be improved (changing to 2x2 matrices, and reworking the objective, maybe? I'm not sure) somehow, so congratulations!! π |
| Dec 6 18:57:13 | 20m 40s | The Montiest Haul | ♥ 1 | Great take on the theme, and cool character art, I loved the raccoon and treasure visuals π I discovered the hauling skill on the second level π . I'd beatean the first one by playing around with the collisions, and while it may not have been intentional, I enjoyed discovering later that there were more ways to solve the level. The jump was a bit floaty for my taste, and as always with physics-based games, gameplay tends to become a bit chaotic and cumbersone. This actually works for the game, so good job on that! More feedback on the score, or if there was a minimum amount of items to carry, would have been appreciated. And at the end of the third level the game just crashed about some sprite index. Despite these things I really liked the game. As a physics puzzler it has a lot of potential. Congrats! :) |
| Dec 6 19:18:35 | 21m 22s | Cool Hat Mr. Hat | ♥ 0 | The concept is absurdly simple, but it works terrific, I got completely hooked (it reminded me a bit of the Goomba stacks in Super Mario Odyssey). Also, great level of polish. It feels like an old-school game. I loved the retro graphic style. The sounds were fitting, although the lack of music caused them to feel a bit grating at times. The B key didn't do anything on my laptop as noted on the instructions, but X and Space did, so it was okay. I've only managed to score 11 after playing for quite a while >_< I. MUST. KEEP. COLLECTING. HATS. Now seriously, this has been one of the best entries I've played so far. Congrats on the great job!! |
| Dec 6 20:29:08 | 1h 10m | Quantum's Rick | ♥ 3 | Great homage to R&M. The theme connection couldn't be better chosen :D I still have problems figuring out what to do, though π . I'm not sure if it's just a matter of patience and quick reflexes or if there's something else I'm missing. I'll eventually get there, but in the meantime congrats for a very solid entry! |
| Dec 6 21:20:31 | 51m 23s | Curse of Greed | ♥ 0 | Great concept! I've just died from greed, got my HP super low -_- Aside from a couple of things that have already been mentioned (wall jump controls, the camera at times) the game is awesome, one of the best I've played so far. Congrats! |
| Dec 6 22:31:41 | 1h 11m | LUGO | ♥ 1 | It looks awesome and I'm eager to try it, but for some reason I cannot play. Both the current and the deadline versions get stuck as soon as I press "Start". I get the loading Windows cursor and that's it :( I'm on a freshly updated Windows 10-64b, and I can run relatively modern games without issues. Any ideas? |
| Dec 8 15:40:32 | 41h 08m | Horny Bunny | ♥ 6 | I'm slightly traumatised after playing XDD Now seriously, great entry! The graphics were amazing and the mechanics felt quite solid. The rabbit mating touch was an...interesting..take on the gameplay take to the theme. Nice job! |
| Dec 8 16:11:42 | 31m 10s | WAVEFORM | ♥ 1 | Amazing graphics! I missed some sound effects to match them and the music. I love these shooter games and the controls on this one were really smooth, even if I had the impression that it moved faster depending on the direction. With a bit of polish I'm sure it could almost feel like a finished game I'd be paying for. Congrats! |
| Dec 8 16:22:34 | 10m 52s | Mushroom DΓ©licieux | ♥ 1 | The game was amazing, but with the relative fast pace and the flashing graphics I ended up a bit sick π Because of those two factors, sometimes it was a bit tricky to tell mushrooms or potions from enemies and other elements, as you would be mostly moving around and everything was changing (at least visually) so fast. Despite this, I really liked the art, sounds and music were fitting and the gameplay itself was solid. Congratulations! |
| Dec 8 17:13:29 | 50m 55s | Bucketneers | ♥ 4 | Awesome take on the theme! At the beginning I tried to fill the cannon directly instead of going to the tank π I loved how polished it is, from the cute pixel-art graphics to the music and sound effects. It would be cool to have a "vs CPU" mode, this has a lot of potential (for example, I imagine different levels with some more crazy stuff going around). Great entry, congrats! |
| Dec 8 17:19:55 | 6m 26s | Grooblins! | ♥ 2 | Some more interaction amongst the grooblins would have been nice, but I kept smiling as the screen was filling up with increasingly weirder critters. The plot twist was hilarious π Nice job! |
| Dec 8 23:26:54 | 6h 06m | Sofra | ♥ 1 | Amazing entry. I've already found a similar mechanic in other games, but the setting made me really invested to try and rescue the bunnies (it reminded me of Shelter to some degree). Besides this, the level design was clever and controls felt very precise, so it all fit wonderfully together. The music had a cute and melancholic vibe I really liked (and matched the game), and the art was great. Brilliant job! Ed: Just finished all the levels. OMG XD |
| Dec 9 01:40:53 | 2h 13m | Boiler Room Defense | ♥ 1 | Awesome! At first I hadn't linked my shoots to the increase of ice on the borders (I'd assumed it was a function of time) and still I was already hooked, that adds a very interesting risk factor, making the player think about if it's worth to shoot or not. My best score so far has been around 5K points. The music is super catchy, and the graphics serve their purpose perfectly fine. A great entry overall! |
| Dec 9 01:44:19 | 3m 26s | Work, please! | ♥ 0 | That screenshot looked very promising. Any chance of a playable version, now or in the future? |
| Dec 9 02:41:42 | 57m 23s | Slightly annoying traffic | ♥ 1 | Simple concept, but brilliantly executed and with lots of potential. I agree with other comments that it might eventually feel samey (if you manage to keep the pace at controlling the cars), but the core mechanic is effective by itself and it can probably be expanded easily. Also, the defeat sequence is awesome :D Great entry, congrats! |
| Dec 9 03:03:52 | 22m 10s | Bum Bag Bangin' | ♥ 2 | Loved the character and environment design. Crazy and full of details, and audio + music were a perfect match. Controls worked great and the theme connection was implemented quite literally, which was a good detail, but the gameplay itself was pretty simple. However, as others have mentioned, surely this can probably be improved easily. Congrats! |
| Dec 9 13:44:45 | 10h 40m | Orbits | ♥ 1 | Great idea, and except for the buggy time acceleration it felt super solid. I'm still awful at it, though (I've only made it to 7 so far, and the amount of planet-planet collisions made it a lot more challenging), so I need to keep practising π Loved the cute faces on the star. Great job! |
| Dec 9 15:26:26 | 1h 41m | Deckest Dungeon | ♥ 2 | Lovely graphics, from the best i've seen so far! The theme connection was there, but not too evident, and the gameplay felt solid, balanced and it was nicely paced. Awesome job! |
| Dec 9 21:58:18 | 6h 31m | UF-Ohh | ♥ 0 | Cool idea, and as you said, it is a great match to the theme. Some levels are tricky even with the teleport (still stuck on the one where both ships are surrounded by guys), and the fact that they may come down to luck rather than just skill can be a bit frustrating at times. However, I like the puzzle part. I'll keep trying to beat the game for a while. Congrats! PS: Darn, you got my evil plan of bookmarking! ;) No seriously, thank you for your feedback! |
| Dec 9 22:20:50 | 22m 32s | Reaper Boy LD40 Edition | ♥ 0 | Super solid entry! I really liked the gameplay, but the retro visuals and music definitely stand out as well. I would have enjoyed more levels, with obstacles or other enemy types, but there's already a lot of content for a jam game. I didn't get to grasp enough the connection to the theme, though. I think I died a couple of times because of collisions, but never got to run out of energy. Anyway, this is a pretty minor thing. Congrats on a fantastic work! |
| Dec 9 22:49:26 | 28m 36s | Junk | ♥ 1 | Great idea! It would be nice to get to get to see a snapshot of the whole board, or at least the room you played in at the end (and perhaps at the beginning?) to be aware of your contribution (be it good or bad :D) Liked the dialogue bits as well. In terms of improvements...well, first would be the lack of sound, and perhaps the opacity of the tetrominos' previews was a bit too high. As you would be getting close to the board it could be difficult to distinguish which block belonged to the shape and which to the preview. In any case, I really enjoyed playing. Awesome job! |
| Dec 10 00:49:56 | 2h 00m | Don't get drunk | ♥ 0 | I'm still at 26 tops, but... what a cool idea, and super fitting! The music is catchy, although it can become repetitive, and the visual effects to portray how drunk you are work perfectly well. I even feel a little sick. Ultra realistic! π Great job! |
| Dec 10 01:08:43 | 18m 47s | The Hoarder's Curse | ♥ 1 | I like the idea and the graphics, well done! In terms of improvements, it would be nice to give the player a bit more to do instead of roaming around and waiting for the amount of gold to be enough to get another tower. Also, some additional feedback about what's going on (the gold replenish rate, or time between days...stuff like that) could be useful. And last, while I managed to survive all the way up to day 10, in the end as soon as I placed the last tower I didn't have anything to do. It also felt a bit counterintuitive to have an insane swarm of thieves stealing from my chest, but the effective amount of gold was still increasing. Despite all these things, this looks like a good starting point into something bigger. Congrats! π |
| Dec 10 01:48:34 | 39m 51s | Just Ask Her Out | ♥ 1 | Loved the ending and the take on the theme. I'd played around with a very similar concept during brainstorming but ditched it in the end (I became too anxious! π) and I thought it would be a topic explored more often. However, yours is the first I find. Good work! |
| Dec 10 02:13:07 | 24m 33s | Matchy's Kooky Cookies | ♥ 3 | Music and graphics were impossibly cute. The take on the theme was good, and gameplay felt solid. I noticed a minor exploit, though, which is that you can just limit the clicking area to right next to the cookie jars and you can pretty much beat the last round, no need to chase around the banditos. I think that could be sorted out easily by having different jars on different positions on the room. Also, an indicator of how many waves are left on the level might be a good addition. Congrats on your first LD (especially having pulled such a good entry!). I hope you enjoyed participating! PS: I got 12079 cookies and my mouse hand is a bit numb now π |
| Dec 10 02:45:04 | 31m 57s | Cherry Creek | ♥ 2 | Great execution of a fitting mechanic! The music had a relaxing vibe and it led you as you kept rotating the tiles, and graphics were cute. It almost looks like a finished game, congrats!! |
| Dec 10 02:59:37 | 14m 33s | 10 inches or less | ♥ 1 | Awesome game! The core mechanic is simple but can get challenging easily (and you did a great job tuning the different levels) and it is a great match to the jam theme. I felt bad about the drop when it exploded π Graphics are very polished, and the moving sound effect was fitting. As for the music, while good, it felt a bit repetitive at times (a bit brassy, perhaps?) All in all a great entry, with lots of potential to keep expanding it. Congrats! |
| Dec 10 03:20:58 | 21m 21s | RE-SANTA | ♥ 1 | I was watching a movie or something a few days ago and I saw some knit-styled screen that I thought would be a great fit for a game. And voilΓ ! Great coincidence! I really liked the entry. It was funny (with some of the new year sentences being straight hilarious), fit the theme perfectly and the graphic style matched the game. The characters looked funny, too. My only nit-pick would be that after a while it could end up being a bit repetitive. I'm not sure if introducing other kind of restrictions (shape, size,...??) could help this. Anyway, congrats on an amazing entry! |
| Dec 10 13:37:45 | 10h 16m | ViKing of Norway | ♥ 1 | I managed to build the ship just as my crew was about to starve, yay! :D Nice game! I really enjoyed the interactions between the vikings. Graphics were nice, and I liked the flute, even if it became a bit repetitive in the end. There were a few bugs with controls, and the henchmen would occasionally get stuck. At some point I thought two of them had fought between themselves to death, but it turned out that I'd left them around near a house. I could see the connection to the theme, and in this case there is potential to make it even stronger (emphasise the enemy consumption, or get the interactions between henchmen really impact the game the more you get). Congrats! |
| Dec 10 13:54:47 | 17m 02s | Mister President | ♥ 1 | Great idea! I haven't seen many political sims this jam, and I think the theme could spawn a few. I got hints of Democracy, Reigns or Papers, Please, which is a great thing, and there is potential on the entry. However, there were some issues with the UI and at some points I didn't get a clear feedback of what was going on. Admittedly, systems-based games tend to be too heavy to properly develop and balance on 48h. For your first game this was quite a feat. Congratulations, hope you enjoyed making it! |
| Dec 10 16:13:15 | 2h 18m | Extreme Whiski Slalom | ♥ 1 | Super-fun game! :D It takes a while to get used to the steering mechanics (I kept mentally reversing steering directions to match the "forward"), but I managed to get to 5100 points before the yeti got me π Once you hit a collider you need to pay a lot of attention to plan the steering direction you want to go as soon as you recover, or it gets stuck relatively easily. I once managed to hit a tree that was just in front of another and I spent a while trying to get out of there, which detracted a bit from the fun. Maybe disabling the collisions against that obstacle could help. Graphics were nice, and the sounds were funny. The music loop was catchy, but it got a bit repetitive in the end. +1 to the insane drunken tricks suggestion! Congrats, I really liked this entry! :D |
| Dec 10 17:15:32 | 1h 02m | Outnumbered | ♥ 1 | For such short development time you already got a nice, functional prototype. I like the turret spawning little animation. On my first run I couldn't see the turrets, though. I was only seeing the projectiles and was incorrectly assuming I'd have to shoot (with no success, obviously) or pick them up (you can imagine the result). It could have been simply that I had some zoom out applied to the tab, I didn't check that first time. Good job! :) |
| Dec 11 00:28:21 | 7h 12m | Rattendorf | ♥ 2 | The amount and quality of content you've put together for a 72h game is impressive. The music and pixel art in particular were amazing. Some have mentioned the confusing tooltips. Besides that, I also missed the ability to delete a building and maybe claim some resources back: I got bad luck with the generator and my map had no mountains, so the ore mines were useless (I didn't realise until after I'd placed one because of the tooltip bug). Speaking of which, if the maps can be as random as it gets, then an alternate way of acquiring resources would be a welcome addition to make the game fairer. I'm aware that it probably would have been too much for the time, but pillaging back, trading or even just scavenging the dead rats' come to mind. In spite of these things, congrats on a great entry overall! |
| Dec 11 01:42:00 | 1h 13m | A Platformer for Ants | ♥ 1 | Amazing entry, one of the best I've seen so far! The level design is great, and quite big for the amount of time, graphics are cute and the take on the theme is brilliant and original (although it is pretty late here and now my eyes hurt a bit from squinting). Gameplay felt solid at all times, I don't really have any complaints about it :) Congrats, this was great! |
| Dec 11 23:21:49 | 21h 39m | Drift Punk | ♥ 1 | I'm amazed. You've got one of the most solid entries I've seen on this edition. You've pretty much nailed everything, from gameplay (so addictive!) to the visual and aural feedback. The theme connection was smart, and the city had quite an organic layout and felt really lively for a jam game. My two bits of feedback (nothing particularly big): First, I noticed that the destination arrow on an elevated road would sink into the road. Second, I got the impression that collisions against smallish items (a traffic cone, for instance) would feel disproportionately strong compared to cars or buildings. Congratulations! Β‘Felicidades, vaya juegazo! |
| Dec 14 15:46:41 | 64h 24m | Poser | ♥ 1 | Brilliant idea, and I love the way it was introduced. As others have said, it is clear to get feedback on your actions, and the first levels offer a smooth way of learning the game mechanics! Besides, each of them are different enough, offering a nice degree of variability. Well done! |
| Dec 14 18:12:23 | 2h 25m | Hungry Kraken | ♥ 0 | Brilliant puzzle! I like how it favours experimentation to discover the mechanics, and how well tuned it is. Once I got the hang of it, it took me a bit to realise the skulls/clams were edible as well. |
| Dec 15 00:15:44 | 6h 03m | Too Many Chooks | ♥ 1 | So many chickens! The idea is simple, but it works amazingly well here and fits the theme perfectly. The chicken sounds were funny, even if at times they can become realistically annoying (My family used to keep hens and they can be sooo noisy). Good job! |
| Dec 16 19:48:17 | 43h 32m | Famous Knight | ♥ 1 | There's a number of devs/teams I'm already expecting to submit consistently great entries and here's one of them :D The take on the theme is hilarious and original, and the game feels immensely polished on every aspect (even some accessibility options, that's a very nice detail!) I still need to grind a bit more so I can reach the last level, but from what I've played I can already tell that this deserves a 5. Congratulations! PS: The autographs! XDD |
| Dec 26 12:04:01 | 232h 15m | Santa's Factory | ♥ 2 | Lovely graphics and cute music! Both feel very polished in general. Focusing on the game, the concept is simple but it fits the theme well. In terms of gameplay, though, the submission version could use some work in terms of gameplay. Targetting the boxes to pick them was pretty tricky sometimes, which combined with the fast pace boxes would start appearing became a bit frustrating. It shows lot of promise, though, and I've noticed there have been several updates, so good job! |
