| May 1 04:00:59 | Dr. M Little's Planet Mass Overdrive | ♥ 3 | I enjoyed the dialogue and flavor to the game! The camera shake was pretty well done too. If I were to nitpick, the control felt a little janky to me. Good entry! | |
| May 1 04:05:33 | 4m 34s | eiland | ♥ 5 | Really enjoyed the mood of the game--has a really comical feeling to it. Everything ties into it with the nice cartoonish art/animation. The simplicity makes it feel really elegant too! But, I'm not entirely sure what causes the tide to come and go(is it timed? or does that indicate I finished a "level"? ) |
| May 1 04:08:39 | 3m 06s | The End and the Beginning | ♥ 2 | Like many people here already said: enjoyed the setting, but the control and gameplay felt slow for a shooting game. Also confused as to what's going on with the story and quotes. I think it's nice to leave things to the imagination of the audience, but I don't think there was enough in the game to go off on. |
| May 1 04:14:31 | 5m 52s | Afterbirth | ♥ 1 | Actually laughed out loud playing this game. I love it when the VO said "Stop that Baby". Game was a bit short though, but I think the humor carries it a long way! |
| May 1 04:24:03 | 9m 32s | Toy Time Turbo | ♥ 1 | Great that you got a few tracks in on a 3D racing game. Other than the controls that some people mentioned, I think the camera was a bit unstable, made me a little sick after playing two tracks. I like the handpainted aesthetic though! |
| May 1 04:32:20 | 8m 17s | A Small World After All | ♥ 2 | I really like the take on the theme of "it's a small world after all", and the game concept was also pretty solid. I think the game needs better pacing though (e.g. having a count down/audio cues for people getting near you...etc). I liked that you used the red particles to indicate where the items are located in the store, but I think it would have been pretty helpful to have a shopping list like the UI you used for endscreen (which was a nice touch on a notebook paper, since it's usually teachers that run into you haha!) Great first entry though! |
| May 1 04:51:31 | 19m 11s | Daydreaming Island | ♥ 1 | Bravo for attempting an end-to-end story game like this for LD, and bravo again for how it turned out! I think going with this retro black/white art was a really smart decision, which let you put time into story, level building and the music (Which is gorgeous, and sets the mood perfectly for a game like this). Those extra design/art work really helped the game stand out. However, some nitpicks: camera was too jarring (Maybe a smooth camera follow would have been better than the pixel/pixel jump?), and the UI also being white in a black/white game made it hard to read. Also, I think some more bread crumbs would have helped the game progression (I got stuck on the roof for really long time not sure what to do with the mail box). Overall, great game though! |
| May 1 05:01:46 | 10m 15s | Snake On A Plane | ♥ 2 | I like the idea to to do a 3rd person snake game, and the game was pretty fun in the beginning. After collecting a few orbs, it became a little hard to control with the extra speed though. I also agree with @xxdoombox that the moment of seeing your own tail/body was really awesome. Nice titles: snake on a plane and SOAP(are we picking up soap? haha) |
| May 1 05:15:45 | 13m 59s | Arrows in Orbit | ♥ 1 | I like the gameplay mechanic a lot. Also really liked the voxel characters. The controls were pretty solid for me too. Art wise, I think you should've gone full blown voxel (8bit skybox, 8 bit UI...etc). I liked the wave system to spice up the game as it progresses, but I think you should emphasize the sense of progression/change more with more variety in enemy/terrain(obstacles?). Overall, great first entry to LD though! |
| May 1 05:26:44 | 10m 59s | Cosmic Cleaner | ♥ 2 | This game feels really polished, feels like it is almost ready to be put in the App store! I really like the progression and how you teach players mechanics slowly (I think it still needs to be a little more explicit though, it took me a few tries to understand how the trajectory/gravitational pulls worked). To be a bit extra nitpicky, I think the game's pacing could be helped a little bit by spicing up the start/end of a level more (maybe a time dilation at the start or when a player barely misses the blackhole). I really like the cute planets and robots though. (I love the bait and switch with the multiplayer button too!) Overall, very solid entry! |
| May 1 05:44:38 | 17m 54s | MARBLE GALAXY | ♥ 2 | I adore the idea to use marble to break glass on a sphere/planet. I also think it was a clever usage of red/blue, glass/sharp edges to note what to touch and what to avoid. I think if you put some polish into the camera control (maybe it's my mouse sensitivity, but I can spin around really quickly which made me dizzy really quickly) and some audio (even if it's just simple sfx), this is a solid concept to work into a proper game! |
| May 1 06:03:15 | 18m 37s | Platform Patrol! | ♥ 2 | This was surprisingly fun to play! While the controls and camera were a little wonky, the game feels very polished. You did a really good job with transitions (game start transition, between level transition). I also actually laughed out loud when I saw the bomb character! And like you said, the game was so much better on a controller. I started on the keyboard and was really frustrated. I think using mouse to aim with the keyboard would have worked pretty well. There were some bugs here and there like enemies colliding through their spawn capsule/the next level started loading before all the enemies are dead(so I just stood there and let them kill me :( Overall, this is a really fun entry! |
| May 1 07:10:49 | 1h 07m | Ruined Topology | ♥ 1 | The game has a great concept and a lot of polish around it. I really liked the animation of the characters/particles. The game has a very VVVVV vibe to it. I was pretty lost after a few rooms, and maybe a minimap would help? (but perhaps this is intentional, then ignore my comment!) Overall, a really polished piece that's fun to explore. |
| May 1 07:20:29 | 9m 40s | Theatre Throw-Down | ♥ 1 | I like it! a deconstructed dungeon crawler. I agree with many of the comments above. I think the gameplay loop is interesting, but adding more enemy/environment objects would make this game really awesome. Overall, great effort! |
| May 1 18:32:26 | 11h 11m | Colorfly | ♥ 4 | The game does a really good job setting up the mood. Everything from music, animation, and particle trails all portray this haunting/fleeting feeling. I especially love the background music, though it clashes sometimes with the SFX notes for tree-building. The game also has nice pacing (switching between tree planting to evil butterfly chasing you). To nitpick, the butterfly speed felt a bit awkward on the horizontal sidescroller section. Also, I'm not sure if it's possible to escape the evil butterfly at the end. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. Thanks for making the game! |
| May 1 18:40:08 | 7m 42s | Just You And Your Porch | ♥ 1 | I think this is one of those really interesting simulator/screen saver game. Weirdly, I felt like I could smell the tea just from the sound effect. I was pretty immersed in the game. I think it achieves what the game sets out to do which is to simulate sitting in a fly infested garden. But I have some nitpick on the UI: progress bar stemming from the middle and filling to the sides was a little confusing to me, and the black pie progress bar was hard to see on top of the black repellant burner. Overall, very nice little game. |
| May 2 00:11:42 | 5h 31m | Ant Clicker - Ready for your reviews!!! | ♥ 2 | Simple but addicting clicker game. I like how you layered simplistic UI on top of the photorealistic game, which makes the game look like a Sundance movie poster! It sets the mood and atmosphere of the game quite well. I liked it a lot. One nitpick is that the same sound effects seem to play a bit too often, which was a little irritating when I realized that was happening.Overall, I think this would make an excellent top app store game (with a little extra polish)! |
| May 2 15:45:44 | 15h 34m | Defense Against the Giants | ♥ 2 | Well executed little tower defense game. I like the art aesthetics of the 3D models (simple polygons with hard corners. Even the HP bar has that PB shader aesthetic to it!), but I think it clashes a little with the mouth-based sound effects (which actually had me laugh out loud- a good thing!) and medieval font-based UI. Overall, it's pretty fun tower defense game. Great entry! |
| May 2 17:17:19 | 1h 31m | Supernova | ♥ 1 | A very polished retro game! I really love a lot of the design choices you made with the game: color palettes for different planets, difficulty ramp as we go towards the sun, player dying and respawning at the ship, ship's flash/beep when getting into heated area, UI ducking when player jumps at top of the screen. I think all these small things really shine through and you end up feeling the tight polish. If I could nitpick, I would have liked to see more level variation (obstacles, aliens..etc) or more things to do in the galaxy map section. Overall, really fun game! |
| May 2 17:34:09 | 16m 50s | Antnator | ♥ 2 | Very nice little Contra-like game. I like the amount of variety there was in this game: enemy types, weapon types, levels (There were some pretty difficulty platforming!) I also really enjoy the handrawn aesthetic. I think one nitpick is how many enemies/tanky their health pool was, which made the difficulty ramp up really quickly towards the end. Overall, really enjoyable retro shooter! |
| May 2 17:46:52 | 12m 43s | Gold N' Steam | ♥ 1 | I really like these type of resource planning games. Reminds me of Mini Metro quite a bit. I like the computer-terminal-like green you picked for the game, I think it goes pretty well with the gold that the trains were collecting. I think it's possible to complete the entire game with just one train, which would be less fun. I think some mechanic to encourage players to purchase more trains would make the game's interest curve ramp up faster. (The game got a lot harder even with two trains! But enjoyably so!) Overall, I think with some extra polish, this would make a for a great game to publish! Great entry. |
| May 2 17:57:16 | 10m 24s | SUN GOD | ♥ 3 | A gorgeous visual experience. Really enjoyed the particles in the game. How did you do the death animation? Was it with a noise-based particle system? I also think the color choices were really great - yellow sun on top of the purplish background, with red particles shooting at you. Some nitpicks: the landing/takeoff was a little confusing for me to grasp, and took a few runs to understand how it worked; and I really wish there was more I could do, but the sense of helplessness may have been intentional given the setting. Overall, I really enjoyed the game. Great entry! |
| May 2 18:09:00 | 11m 44s | Membrum | ♥ 2 | A very unique entry! I had a pretty fun time playing the game, and there were a lot of laugh-out-loud moments for me (getting a baby, getting hit by the car over and over again...etc...I guess I should've developed my brain out better so my character stops making bad decisions). I really enjoyed the game after I learned the mechanics of each organ/shift and expansion. I think it was a little overwhelming to start with six organs at the same time, maybe ramp that up a little slower? Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Great entry! |
| May 2 18:19:36 | 10m 36s | Murder Mitosis | ♥ 4 | A pretty fun party game! Reminds me of move-or-die. I like the overall polish the game has, from the menu/HUD to the actual gameplay. I also like the art choices quite a lot(The notepad style with simplistic shapes made it feel really elegant). It took me a few rounds to finally understand the mechanic, but I really enjoyed how the game pushes towards ending with the petri dish being filled up. Overall, great work! One of the best multiplayer games in this jam. |
| May 2 18:44:38 | 25m 02s | A Bombtastic World | ♥ 1 | A really elegantly simple puzzle game! Even though it just a few shapes, the entire game feels really polished: from the character animation, glow effect around the bomb/explosion, and the sound effects (jumping on tiles feel really satisfying). Also, I like how the mechanics ramp up through the levels, just wish there were more! One small nitpick I have is that I got confused a little bit when moving the character: since the game is isometric, and needs to be moved with WASD, I sometimes move in the wrong direction from where I expect to move. I had to keep a conscious effort on the directions to make sure I knew which direction was up/down/left/right. Overall, great concept and execution. With more levels, this would make an amazing puzzle game! |
| May 2 18:54:21 | 9m 43s | Icebearino | ♥ 2 | Love this take on the theme. It was pretty fun running around eating penguins (When I'm not feeling bad about eating them). I like how it tackles a real-world issue in an enjoyable way. With some extra variation like more creature types/environmental obstacles, this game would be awesome. Overall, interesting simple entry. BTW, polar bears and penguins are on different poles! They never meet in real life! |
| May 2 19:08:42 | 14m 21s | Interstellar Botanist | ♥ 1 | Amazing space farming simulator 2017! Beautiful relaxing game that's quite funny at times. I love the VO actor and the lines he delivers. If I'm to nitpick, I wished there was better explanation on the seed combiner- I thought that there might've been some Gregor Mandel stuff going on. I think the game achieves what it sets out to do though, which is a relaxing farming simulator. Great entry! |
| May 2 20:08:32 | 59m 50s | Bio Noid | ♥ 1 | Amazing game for 48 hours. The game is like a study in megaman boss fight design. All 5 bosses were pretty enjoyable--it was fun to figure out the pattern and then execute on killing the boss without getting damaged. (except the last boss...I can't seem to understand his fist pound, which seems to hit vertically?) Both the graphics and audio evoke the megaman nostalgia. Design wise, I wish there were more variation in my arsenal, but the game's already pretty solid with its current mechanics. And yea like @ilikescifi mentioned, you should spice up this page for the attention that this game rightfully deserve! (your link isn't clickable btw). Overall, amazing sidescroller shooter that can totally become a published game with some extra polish. |
| May 2 20:15:23 | 6m 51s | Little Unsuitable Journey | ♥ 1 | There's a lot of flavor in this simple game. I really like the small villages you find on the travel, and the little people cheering was super adorable. The game is quite unforgiving though (can't wonder off the main path, or you'll run out of energy). Another small problem is the camera control, which made it a little hard to pickup the energy balls. Overall, an enjoyable journey! |
| May 2 20:28:48 | 13m 25s | Clash of the Fungus | ♥ 1 | Very unique concept! The mechanics' quite interesting. After figuring out the mechanics of killing spores with purple bullet, the game became a lot more engaging: should I charge up energy, shoot spores, or wait until the opponent shoot spores (so I can shoot it down). Also, the main menu showed 8 fighters, and I'm not sure how to unlock them? |
| May 2 21:07:39 | 38m 51s | Unnamed Space Project | ♥ 2 | I'm a big fan of these type of top-down shooter games, and I think you've done a solid job with the visuals and audio, especially the particles, they look stunning on top of the dirt platform. I also think you did a great job with the 3D models (character, plants, plane). They have a very alien swarm feel to them 🙂 However, like many people mentioned, I think the difficulty of the game needs some tuning. It was really difficult to start when you have no turrets, and the enemies felt a little too tanky for the damage they output. I got to 3 spawners, and that overwhelmed me too quickly. Overall, great game for the duration! |
| May 2 21:22:49 | 15m 10s | Its a small world | ♥ 2 | Interesting concept and take on the theme. I think it has a lot of potential. Instead of all the information dump in the beginning, I think there can be a better way to ease the player into the mechanic. I think the game could use some more polish, but the foundation is good. |
| May 2 21:40:33 | 17m 44s | A Small War | ♥ 0 | A really polished game. I like the voxel-based aesthetic a lot. I think it jells well with the neon hues you added for different ingame objects. I also like the choice of background music during the game. However, I think the game needs some balancing though, since I can stall out a lane's medium/heavy units just by sending light units at it. I think some more variation on units other than HP would make the game more tactically interesting. Overall, a great entry though! |
| May 2 22:34:15 | 53m 42s | A Perfectly Lovely Expedition | ♥ 4 | A really great "escape room" game! I really like the take of gathering different resources on a small planet. There are so many little activities to do, especially fun when figuring out that you use the monocle to light the tree on fire. (These kind of surprises on how to use items are the best in these type of games). I think you did a great job with the chosen aesthetic as well. The 16-bit feeling was perfectly lovely. One small problem I have is that the digging mechanic felt a little awkward. Overall, really polished little gem though! |
| May 2 23:04:07 | 29m 52s | Get Off My Land! | ♥ 0 | I think this is quite a unique game, would probably be more fun with real players. I enjoyed the game, and I like the concept around buying a gun to kill other players so you can steal their nugget, but I don't think there's enough incentive to do that (costs 4000 to buy a gun shot, but people usually only carry ~ 2000 gold ore). Also, not sure if it was a bug, but the NPCs were constantly dying of dysentry 😲 I like the choice of art as simplistic polygonal models - the whole game's pretty cohesive with that choice. Overall, I like trying something different, but a bit more polish will go a long way! Good effort! |
| May 2 23:35:16 | 31m 09s | War | ♥ 3 | If games are supposed to surprise, you did an amazing job. Dear god, my eyes... As unique as this entry is, the shooting mechanics was actually pretty fun, and the flies were quite interesting since they weren't that easy to predict. And damn if you didn't put effort into the gore and other disgusting particles. 😓 |
| May 2 23:44:58 | 9m 42s | littleBLASTplanet | ♥ 1 | Fun little game. Both the pixel art and 8bit tunes evoke a retro sense of nostalgia. I feel like this could make a great arcade game. I also agree with @ryguydavis, pleasantly surprised by the straight line shooting mechanic! I think the enemies felt a little unfair though (the one that jumps on your head and the one that pops up from the ground). Also, would love to see some progression indications (more weapons, statistics...etc). |
| May 3 00:03:28 | 18m 30s | Classical Conditioning Cooperation - [CCC] | ♥ 1 | Amazing puzzle game! Extremely polished. I like the art style a lot, it has a children's storybook feeling to it, and the color selection on top of a largely blank white background is smart. There's also a lot of good design on the levels on how the interest/difficulty curve slowly rises by introduction of new mechanics. I think the only slight issue I have is on how you control the mice. I had a lot of trouble getting the mice to go the right direction after exiting a pipe. Since I need to click through the rotation options to get to the direction I want, I sometimes end up sending the mouse back into the pipe. Overall, a professional level polish on a 72 hour game! Bravo on a job well done! |
| May 5 04:34:00 | 52h 30m | Something Something | ♥ 1 | Really great base for a game! Even though there wasn't much gameplay there, I like the concept of an RTS that you can freely rotate around in, and I also really enjoy the minecraft-y 8bit aesthetic. I tried out the map editor, and it's pretty sweet (not sure how to drag around in that though, since left click places things)! Really impressive accomplishment for building from scratch! Would love to read a post-mortem on what you think went well/didnt for this. Hope to see this flushed out more in a post-jam version! |
| May 5 11:56:21 | 7h 22m | MagiSEED | ♥ 2 | Interesting platformer! Love the different mechanics introduced in the different levels, but thought the difficulty was a little too high. Also, were the heart mechanic used specifically for the rain? I would die instantly when I touch the plants. (Working hearts would mediate the difficulty problem I mentioned). I like the animation on the characters, especially the main character, who looks to be dancing. And agree with some of the other comments on wishing there were more mechanic reusing (e.g. size shrinking mechanic). |
| May 5 12:13:38 | 17m 17s | Until Tomorrow | ♥ 1 | I love how unexpected everything was in this game, reminds me a little of undertale. You just did so many things right in this game to setup this haunting/somethings-not-quite-right atmosphere: the music, the ordinary yet heartfelt sorrow in the characters' dialogue, and even the graphics look a little washed out, which helps to give that eerie tone. I felt unedge, which means you did a great job! Love the story as well. I think only nitpick is similar to what many other people said: controls were a bit awkward, and I think the characters could have benefited from having 2 more directions art-wise. But the game's already really impressive for a 72 hour jam. Overall, amazing entry! |
| May 9 02:06:55 | 85h 53m | Where is mommy? | ♥ 4 | There were a few awesome moments in the game. I really enjoyed the concept of using light and shadow to show/hide objects. While there were no real scary monster/things, I played the game convinced that I will run into them, which made the pipes/some objects seem extra scary when my flash light scans through them. Another great moment was when the light revealed the footsteps I had (it took me a while to realize that was my footsteps though... I was thinking "WHOS FOLLOWING ME"). I just wished there were more light/hidden puzzles involved. Overall, really enjoyable experience. Nice song and zoom out animation at the end too! |
| May 10 02:41:12 | 24h 34m | on a tiny planet | ♥ 0 | Neat little game! Feels a lot like a cooperative board game, like pandemic. The game also feels very polished, with the 8-bit aesthetic(art + music). I think the gameplay/goals pretty innovative as well, but I'm a little lost on the strategy aspect of the game. I think there's maybe a little too many things that's happening by chance (card/fog tile placement). Overall though, solid entry! |
| May 10 03:58:15 | 1h 17m | The Z Axis | ♥ 1 | A very enjoyable puzzle gem! Reminds me a lot of shift(http://armorgames.com/play/751/shift) and portal. I dig the concept of the game a lot--keeping the character upright and rotating the world. I also really dig the limbo/8-bit aesthetic of the game-- they work really well to create a mysterious atmosphere. I found the puzzles pretty fun (even though difficulty spikes up quickly at level 8 like @ddrkirbyisq mentioned). Another problem I ran into was clipping through the bounding walls and falling out of the world. Overall though, nice puzzles and strong entry! |
| May 10 04:11:19 | 13m 04s | Adventure Owl Meets the Mole Men | ♥ 2 | Cute little adventure/exploring game. I love the art and animation of both the owl and moles, and love the fact you placed a lot of checkpoints around the map. (really helps with the playability!) And I also enjoyed the surprise jetpack! I was just about to complain about the missed opportunity of the owl not flying, but jetpack is definitely the way to go for adventure owl. I think there's some polishing work that would make the game even better (e.g. falling death wasn't super clear/sharp edges for tunnel edges) But I can't wait to see where the adventure takes our owl friend to in the future! Great work! |
| May 10 04:26:07 | 14m 48s | TerminAnt | ♥ 1 | Really nostalgic game given the style and controls. I think @shodanon really hit the nail on the head with the description of the game: the mid nineties style (if that's even a style). I love the take on the theme (ants in a human sized world/desk), and I think it's really fun to run on top of everyday objects. However, I think there also needs to be more polish for a few systems, such as the movement control if you want it to be a first-person platformer (A really difficult genre to tackle at that!). Overall, great entry, I think there's a lot of heart to this fun little game. |
| May 13 16:35:27 | 84h 09m | Quantum Frustum | ♥ 1 | Absolutely stunning game! I love the trippy visual and how the environment feels alive when you're not looking, a bit like the "Sleeping Angels". I also like the clever naming "frustrum" relating to the camera frustrum! Visually, this is one of the greatest visual treats of this jam, with the crazy shaders around objects and fog/glow effects. Like some people mentioned, I think the gameplay feels a bit weak, since the only mechanic is to look around. I think there can be more impactful moments like Antichamber's "quotes". Overall, I loved this game, and would love to see more of it someday! Thanks for sharing it with us. |
| May 13 19:23:47 | 2h 48m | 6-Sided Sojourn | ♥ 2 | A great addicting dungeon clicker game! I love how much polish there is in the game (The voxel-based graphics, tile transition, 8-bit retro sound effect, 8-bit font). Everything just comes together in such a fun and cohesive package. The deceptively simple mechanic is also super fun to experiment with. I think with a few more varieties in tiles/obstacles, this game would have no problem hitting the top charts of either the iOS or Android store. Great job guys! Really fun game that I would love to see more of. |
| May 16 06:18:04 | 58h 54m | Little Scout | ♥ 1 | Really great concept and take on the theme. The music and art fit pretty well together too! Just a shame that you ran out of time and couldn't get more than the tutorial. Would love to see more after the jam, if you decided to pursue the project! One nitpick is that the animation sometimes doesn't play when you walk, so the character would look like he's gliding across the floor. |
| May 16 06:39:40 | 21m 36s | Platform Styx | ♥ 4 | Thanks guys, I really didn't need to sleep tonight. Really great job on setting up the dreadfully haunting atmosphere with so few scenes/objects. I think you did a really good job choosing the music and pacing the transitions--a lot of lingering senses of mystery but also sudden senses of horror. While the story is a little on the vague side, it was an interesting exotic experience. Thanks for sharing the game! Would love to see it fleshed out more post-jam. |
| May 17 02:39:05 | 19h 59m | Higher Ground | ♥ 2 | Really neat little flood survival simulation! I really love the art style - 8-bit characters/tiles blended with semi-realistic water/SFX. The drum sound ambience also did a great job to set the tone/atmosphere! Another thing I enjoyed was the procedurally generated maps/characters (I assume they are?), they add a lot of replay-ability to the game. I agree with some of the comments above that I wish there were more variation to strategies needed to reach the end (I reached the end by just building ladders and foraging/tree cutting/cow shooting). Overall, I really enjoyed the game! Hope theres more post-jam. |
