| Aah Little Atlantis | I really wanted to try this one, but it wouldn't run :( | ||
| Hockey Island | Awesome premise, and, glad to see Molokini on there. Controls are a bit hard to get used to, and after a few plays I stopped getting a puck at the beginning of the game, but oh well. Very funny nonetheless. | ||
| Keytrader | A fantastic idea. Love it. For better or worse, many keyboards aren't capable of reporting more than 3 key-presses at a time (or 3 each from various regions of the keyboard), so even if your good with your fingers, you still have to think about releasing keys in order to press others. <br/> <br/>I'd love to see more. | ||
| The Naturalist | This is amazing. It's like E.V.O. on LSD. Please expand it, it'd be awesome. | ||
| BRAVE ISLAND DIVER | This is a pretty sweet game. I dig the retro graphics, although at first it's a *bit* hard to tell what's what. The line pointing to the nearest star is an aiming aid, or leftover debugging info? I couldn't tell. Anyway, the only thing I might change would be to add more of those unlockable trampolines, so that when you made a mistake you didn't lose quite so much of your progress. I got all but 5 stars, and liked it enough that I might try it again later, but it did get kinda frustrating doing the same jumps over and over again. <br/> <br/>EDIT: Finally finished it, and I'm even more fond of it now. Finally reaching that last star was very satisfying, though I'm not entirely sure what the ending screen was supposed to show. | ||
| You are me now | A fantastic game. Music, graphics, gameplay, all wonderful. Loved the Clarke quote a the beginning, too. Only complaint is that it's too short! This needs further exploration. | ||
| Paradise Fort | A very neat seeming idea, but the controls are extremely awkward. I'm still not sure whether I ever built anything at all - I could walk up and down my ladder, but it kept flashing as if it were under construction. As for my cannons, well, I wasn't sure how to build them either. I'm pretty sure I got a wall built, and, killing and eating fish was pretty fun, though. All in all, a valiant attempt, but more intuitive controls would help it a lot. | ||
| Island World | A clever little game with cute graphics and an amusing intro. Unfortunately, whenever nighttime rolled around and the screen got dark, performance for me dropped precipitously and the CPU spiked, which basically meant that when night approached I had to find a safe spot to stand and not move at all until morning. Which somewhat diminished my enjoyment, but overall it was still a good game. Rather difficult, but eventually you get the hang of it. | ||
| Beebop The Island Hopper | An odd little timing game. Rather harder than it at first seems. | ||
| Isles of Color | The puzzles here are really fantastic, took me a very long time to finish them but I never once felt like giving up. I managed to collect 43 orbs, but on collecting the 43rd, nothing further happened. Was there supposed to be some sort of conclusion? The one negative thing I noticed was that the controls were a little imprecise for a puzzle game of this nature; this was particularly notable in the boulder-pushing puzzles, where I'd push the wrong boulder sometimes and have to start over. Also, while the music was interestingly atmospheric, given the length of the game I ended up having to mute it eventually. <br/> <br/>Those things aside, this is a really fantastic take on sokoban, and was a lot of fun. I'd love to find out if anything was special was supposed to happen in the final area, though! | ||
| Hungry for Island | The audio is really awesome. Not much in the way of gameplay, really, but, I really dig the sound. | ||
| Island Guns | This game is actually pretty fun, though I'm really bad at tower defense in general and have not once managed to survive long enough to accumulate enough money to buy anything more expensive than the homing gun. Sad, 'cause the volcano stuff looks pretty cool. Nicely on-theme, too. | ||
| Jump Pirate | Finished, without watching the video, with 114 deatsh, 22:33.87. Very challenging, frustrating at times, but not enough to make me quit. Interesting visual aesthetic. | ||
| They Came From the Ocean | Couldn't play it as my graphics card lacks the proper capabilities. Pity, it looks very nice. | ||
| Deep Under an Island | A pretty good game, the puzzles make you think without being too difficult, but, pretty much ignores the theme entirely, doesn't it? | ||
| Wow, Islands And Stuff!! | The two things which sell this game are the art style and the level design. The basic mechanic may be not be very novel, but there's style in spades. This definitely deserves to be expanded and fleshed out. <br/> <br/>Also, the music is nice, but it needs to be louder. I actually played the entire game through, hearing only the sound effects and thinking nothing of it, and didn't even know there was music at all until I read the comments here. I went back and listened. It's nice. Turn it up! | ||
| Roller-Derby 20XX: Mega Islands of Awesome | Nice graphics and sound. Gameplay was pretty good, but could have used a little something more to spice it up. Not sure what, though. | ||
| Rocket Bike To Space | First of all, love love love the art and audio. Wonderful. Second of all, the game is pretty fun. I gave it a four overall, it would have gotten a 5 except for one major flaw: the controls! For a game that only uses one button it sure seemed to ignore that button an *awfully* large proportion of the time; the no-jump-during bounce thing is just brutal and detracts from the fun of an otherwise great game. <br/> <br/>That being said, I still did finish it and I actually did enjoy it. Just please, please, fix the controls post-compo! <br/> <br/>Final note: loved the thumbs-up/thumbs down hand. | ||
| ROW, FUCK!!! | Far more entertaining than the concept has any right to be. A small possible bug in that I could actually end up on the unbreakable islands and have to row over land. Other than that, great. Be nice to have a system of levels with different rock distributions or something similar, for some feeling of progress. | ||
| L'il Guys and the Floating Islands | A fun little lemmings-esque puzzle game. I liked it. Ended up getting stuck, but I'll probably come back to it and try again after voting is over. <br/> <br/>I did notice one amusing bug: clouds can be used as anchor points for bridges and conveyor belts. | ||
| Nieuwe Aarde | This is a very good entry, quite engaging. It felt like the monster attacks could have been a bit more balanced - perhaps allowing for partially successful defense if you spent part of the necessary resources (though of course without the rewards)? Still very entertaining. | ||
| Infinite Deadly Islands Of Terror | I love the idea of a pirate with a peg body, reminds me of the old PBF comic where there's a pirate surgeon giving someone a peg aorta, and you see someone with a peg head in the background. <br/> <br/>Anyway, fun little game, nice graphics, felt like it could use a little bit more variety (not in level layout, which was very well done, I assume procedurally, but in the kinds of things you find in the levels). | ||
| A Practical Survival Guide for Robots | I was looking forward to playing this game, but when I run it (on Windows), the text is all missing, as are most of the graphics. All I see are the robot and the items to pick up, no background, and no text, including on the menu. I'll be coming back to this one to try it again, because it looks interesting. | ||
| Island Defence | Absolutely wonderful sound effects. I laughed. Graphics are pretty nice, too. | ||
| Tropical Islands of Doom | The graphics are quite nice looking, especially the sky. Music isn't bad either. However, no matter what settings I try using, on multiple computers, I find myself unable to keep the camera under control - the slightest twitch of the mouse and I'm looking at either the sky or the ground; it essentially became impossible to play. Pity, it looks like it could have been fun. | ||
| No^Man | The art is fantastic, the idea behind the game is also neat. I was unable to solve the second puzzle; the best I could do was move the twig thing into a red area and it looked different, but whenever I let it go it would go back to where it came from. I got past it using a word as a platform. <br/> <br/>Also, you mention sound using audacity, but, I didn't hear anything during gameplay, even with the volume way up. | ||
| Islands: Through the Sweep of Stars | That was entertaining, and some of the riddles were really witty. Fear was my favorite, peril took me far, far longer than it should have. Short and sweet, with great pictures. I'm quite fond of the source-comments-as-hints system. | ||
| The Adventures of Archie Pegalo | Ridiculously, brutally hard. I'll have to come back to later to try again. Maybe I'll try it with a game pad? I did enjoy the parts I managed to see, though. Moral of the story seemed to be, "Don't get stranded on a desert island or you'll go crazy and teddy bears will shoot eye lasers at you." Or something. | ||
| Eviction | I liked the art quite a bit. Gameplay was ok, could have used some spice in the form of powerups or something similar. | ||
| ChickenPost! | Brilliant graphics, both for the intro and for the gameplay, and the audio was pretty good too. Gameplay wasn't bad, but the timing for jumping over holes was pretty awkward, and by level two the game seemed nearly impossible. Nonetheless, overall a good job. | ||
| Clean the Island!! | The graphics and audio are cute, the gameplay is solid if not that challenging. Could do with a bit more depth, but all in all, not bad :) | ||
| Island Hermit Hop! | A pleasant game that reminds me of the original metroid in some ways. Pleasant music, though a bit repetitive. | ||
| Mauritius | This was far more fun than it should have been, I'm really glad you posted the OpenGL 1 version. Music is awesome despite the short loop, and the graphics are pretty sweet too. I actually died at the same time as reaching the end,so the ending text came up as I was falling off the screen, for added effect. Poor Dodo :( | ||
| Kallista's Dream | I really wanted to enjoy this game, it looked pretty awesome. However... you aren't kidding when you say it 'needs hardcore optimizations', I spent the whole time with the CPU spiked and it took whole minutes for the plot sections to go by. I enjoyed the plot, but by the time I gave up and closed it, I had actually spent more time (much more time, really) watching the plot than playing the game. I know this isn't entirely your fault, largely it's my computer, but... | ||
| Tropical Vampires | This game wins everything. The metroid reference especially pleases. My girlfriend and I both laughed, in every room. | ||
| Hairgel Quest | Ahh, for the good old days of Space Quest et al. Simple, but entertaining. Unfortunately, it crashes whenever I try to head south from the starting point, which I assume (given the contents of the other rooms) is where I'm supposed to find a jellyfish. Alas. | ||
| Dinosaur Vs the islands! | Ok, so it's not a very good game, is it? That said, it's pretty funny, and I do like the audio. Also, at the end... are those japanese-style poo with faces falling from the top of the screen? Amazing. | ||
| The Noah's Ark | Kind of amusing, but... | ||
| Pedestrian Voter | That's certainly one way to interpret the islands theme, I suppose :-p | ||
| Islands Far Away | Cute and clever. Runs into problems with certain verbs that describe the same action being treated differently - playing guess-the-verb takes the wind out of any IF game. Otherwise, a good go. | ||
| Zombie Island | Cute graphics, they work really well for the game. Sound ain't bad either, though there could be more of it. Unfortunately, I found the player's punch ability to be next to useless, taking some of the fun out of the game. Nevertheless, a good start. | ||
| IslandsMUD | Love the idea of making a MUD. Didn't have time to explore it thoroughly at the moment, but, I liked what I saw. Could have used a bit more direction for the player though; I know normally in MUDs a lot of the interaction is with the other players, but, when I tried it, no one else was connected. | ||
| Invasive | A very interesting game idea, though after thinking about it for only a few minutes it becomes quite easy. Too bad it's not so easy in real life. <br/> <br/>Nonetheless, easy didn't mean boring, and I stuck with it until I had won, enjoying myself the while. Good job. | ||
| Every Man Is An Island | Not a half bad mechanically, though it's incredibly short. On the other hand, I adore the graphics, and the interpretation of 'no man is an island' was pretty cute, too. | ||
| Piratey Tycoon | Sadly, it didn't seem to work for me. I just got a blank white window titled 'Lost'. And yes, I followed the instructions above, both types. I'll come back and try it later. | ||
| Island Balance | Like it's namesake the trainwreck, you can't look away. Oddly compelling for a two hour game, but, I'd still like to see the entry you had been planning to do, fleshed out. | ||
| Hungry Hungry Castaways | Interesting core mechanic; Some extra status info would be good, but overall I liked it. Addicting enough that I played for quite a while. | ||
| the Traveling Salesman Problem | Seems kinda buggy... the pirates get stuck on each other and the game lags after a while. A good start, if it were polished up more, though. | ||
| Cartograph | Interesting gameplay mechanic, though it didn't take long before I arrived at what was, as far as I could tell, a mandatory death. Still, a fun idea. Side note, numpad worked for movement, but numpad 5 didn't work for mode change, I had to use enter for that. | ||
| a bridge too far | Interesting take on the theme. One small problem, it's possible to take the first step on a bridge and then go back the way you came, leading to odd results. | ||
| Awesome LifeBoat Game | I loved the 'Hooray' sound effect. Also, took me a while to realize that new people were spawning when I rescued old ones. | ||
| Giant Floating Island Adventure | I liked the visual style, especially the rain effect. Audio was ok. Unfortunately, that's all I'm able to rate. Game is unplayably laggy and uncontrollable for me. Too bad, looks interesting. | ||
| Island Assault | I really liked the graphics and audio in this; the gameplay was pretty fun, too, though the damage was a bit heavy. If you were to spruce up the 'sand' graphic to be more in keeping with the other graphics, it'd be even better. Overall, a very nice feel to it. | ||
| Life-Cycle of the Great Asp Turtle | A very neat idea, pity you didn't get to take it as far as you'd intended. I had to dock for graphics because I encountered a bunch of glitches in that arena, with the background disappearing and islands jumping around; otherwise I really liked it. | ||
| Golden | It's a good start, but there needs to be more to do, I think. The planned water and enemies would have been good, and/or power ups to let you reach places you couldn't before. Otherwise, a good start. Oh, I dig the pixely graphics, too. | ||
| Pirates | The sprites are cute, I like them. Especially the way they fall apart when you hit them. | ||
| Hovergirl in Island World | Interesting idea, doing a procedurally generated world entirely in Javascript. The graphics are pretty sweet - that they were inspired by Lost Garden is obvious, but there's nothing wrong with that, Lost Garden is awesome. As for gameplay, well, there isn't any, but, given enough time this could go somewhere neat. | ||
| Waves | Fun little game, very similar to pgil's Island Hermit Hop. Took me a while to realize how you were supposed to get the collectibles up in the air. | ||
| WeComeFromTheSkies | In premise, this is very sweet. In playing, though, I found that moving around the map wasn't very smooth, and hijinks ensued when there were two overlapping islands (to the tune of, not knowing being able to control which one I was building on/connecting to). Basically all the problems I have come down to UI, the rest is very good. | ||
| Island Warz | Not entirely sure how this is supposed to work; is there a difference between the islands where I get bases (and can thus send more guys forwards) and those where I don't? When the red tribe is gone, am I supposed to win? Also, once there was an island with no routes. | ||
| Island Towers | High score: 2216. <br/> <br/>I'm fairly sure this is the first game I've ever played in which one exterminates fish with artillery. | ||
| AlienIslands | Nice to look at, but, not a lot to do. I managed to find the boat by sheer dumb luck, but nothing happened, so I went for a swim to see what happened, and I just ended up back at the start. Also, I managed to make myself invisible at one point, and the only way to exit was to force kill the process. A good start, but, it needs some work. | ||
| Whales Deep | Cute game, and I rather liked the music. | ||
| Islands Survival | I liked the little robot sprites. | ||
| Lonesome Flotsam | An entertaining, almost zelda-esque game... however, it's way too hard to keep the player alive; considering death is final, there needs to be more ways to regain health, perhaps by adding a drop to crabs or boars that restores HP instead of hunger. Tried several times, but the cannons are just too deadly. Pity, I was interested in the ending. | ||
| Island of the Mind | A pretty good idea, and pretty fun, though there are some flaws that hurt it; of note, the controls kinda laggy and unresponsive, and, the very first time I started I fell right on the giant fish and died immediately. Otherwise, it's a pretty well thought-out game. I enjoyed the ending, too, though it took a *long* time for 'thank you for playing' to scroll into view, several minutes I'd say. | ||
| Arquipelago | It felt like an interesting start, like the setup for a strategy game, but the 10-second timer was too hard to handle in the case of misclicks (at least on the setup I'm currently using to play it). Otherwise, could develop into something neat. | ||
| Napol©on et la punition myst©rieuse ®le du diable | The collision detection is horribly buggy, but the graphics, particularly at early on, are some of the most stylish ultra-low-res pixel art I've seen in a long time. Very nice looking, also amusing; probably would be better if I knew French, though. | ||
| Pirate-Go-Round | I can't get it to run, either on the web or the download version. :( | ||
| geology | The game idea is interesting, but controls are incredibly frustrating. | ||
| Islands in the Sky | Basic mechanics worked ok. A solid platformer, though not a lot of variety to the level design. Nice to have an entry with both music and sfx, though the music seemed a bit off. | ||
| Pirate | It's not a very deep game, is it? ;) Nonetheless, I did keep playing until I was able to reach the other side. | ||
| Banana Joe | A cute little platformer, though pretty standard fare. Like the sprites, though. | ||
| Simulacrum | "Contemners impose judgment to divide their prey from the pack." Seems somewhat appropriate. <br/> <br/>An interesting game, though the controls are entirely hyperactive. Slowing movement down would have helped a lot. Loading saved games was a bit buggy as well. Other than that, quite a lot of fun to play. <br/> <br/>Also, I agree with some of the other reviewers that the story was heavy-handed, but I disagree that that's a bad thing. Sometimes, for some games, that's exactly what you need, and this is one of those games. | ||
| tailspin | I, too, found it essentially impossible to refuel. | ||
| Atollery | An interesting puzzle game, and some of the levels were quire tough, took me a long time to beat it (though I finally did). Music was decent but ended up repetitive, eventually muted it. Some additional graphics may have made the connection to the heme a lot more clear; as is, it seems a bit of a stretch to relate this to 'islands'. And yes, more detailed instructions would have been helpful. | ||
| 108 seconds of loneliness | A pretty clever little puzzle game, with some neat elements. I rather like the pixel graphics, and the name, too. | ||
| Roach Route | It may interpret the theme rather useless, but it's an interesting take on it nonetheless. Loved the music when you're walking around, but had to mute it when the bugs came :( . Also, a lot of people seem to have been surprised by the roaches, but for me, the name gave it away :p | ||
| Island Skate Delivery Boy | Like a cute little Canabalt, with pickups instead of obstacles. | ||
| Rising Sea Levels | Can't get it to run on either of the computers I have available to me, either windows, built, or mac, from source. Alas. Probably a graphics card issue, as you suggested in #gosu. | ||
| Island Jumper | Really interesting mechanic, and puzzles to boot. Nice graphics, acceptable sound. Difficulty could have used a bit of adjustment, as the collision was a bit too unforgiving, but otherwise a quite solid entry. Checkpoints would have been nice, though. |
