LD42 — Running out of space

Too Many Gems by Quetzakol 2018-08-13T13:42:58Z

Some notes while playing: - smooth character movement - x is hard to reach for use of tool (maybe use e or f) - when you die there is no indication as to how you died (at least when the box kills you) - after being killed by the ice cube, I never in a million years would think that I could stand on top of him (maybe add a visual element to show that his head is safe) - character animations are well done - some background parallax would be a nice to have - after the stars I'm not sure how to proceed

Get Comfortable by mcccclean 2018-08-21T14:39:12Z

This is the best game I've played so far. Very innovative and I love the comments when certain actions take place (like "praying" when your hands touch). Good work.

.S by torcado 2018-08-21T14:43:32Z

Very cool idea. The only suggestion I could have is adding detection for when a player is stuck so it restarts automatically. Well done.

Le Parking by karlipoppins 2018-08-13T04:05:42Z

Awesome concept. I find the walking controls hard to use and I think it would be fun if you could exit a car while its moving and have it keep momentum. Graphics are excellent!

ROOS? by Genpaku 2018-08-13T13:23:07Z

Great idea. The UI could use some polishing (obviously) and I think there should be an indication on the shadow to let the player know how close the block is to landing. Same idea for blocks that are about to disappear so that players can plan their route accordingly.

EVOLUTION by Noa Calice 2018-08-21T14:31:11Z

The graphics are very well done, however the game play is lacking in my opinion. There isn't any strategy and realistically, not very many choices to make that have any impact on the game. It would have been nice to have to use some strategy or skill at some point. Also, I think it would have been good to allow the player to drag and drop some of the buildings.

Blockie by kamikaziuk 2018-08-13T15:25:17Z

Very clean and simple to learn. However, I feel like there isn't a lot of strategy needed. Maybe implementing some type of ability that allows you to temporarily move over more blocks or even destroy some could add a strategic elements to it! The camera shake and feedback is awesome!

TENORMS by Mathstr0fficial 2018-08-13T03:34:22Z

Having 'c' to select menu options is not a common input. I would put that on the main menu somewhere so people don't give up trying to figure it out.

Crystalmancer by Crowno 2018-08-21T14:36:32Z

I love the style, it's very solid. The screen shake adds a lot to the feel of the game. Good work!

Rick Dervish - Space Cadet by coldfire83 2018-08-13T04:09:00Z

It's very hard to avoid the bullets and it's a bit weird that you ask for the player's volume settings before starting the game. Also a bit confusing having two continue buttons.

OVERKILL by earnso 2018-08-13T13:47:35Z

Some notes while playing: - I wish I could shoot in any direction or at least at 45 degrees - the body parts sometimes fall off the screen instead of piling up - im not entirely sure what the powerups do

Cool game, the shooting feels nice.

Get off my shelf! by OnePlusOne 2018-08-13T13:29:51Z

Great concept. There are some spelling errors in the "how to play" section and it isn't immediately clear that you can't fall off the shelf. Great work.

Manspreader by Rob White 2018-08-13T13:20:27Z

Haha this game is good fun. At first, I died too fast and the screen spazzed out so I thought the game may be broken, but I tried again and had a blast. Simple, but to the point.

DeadShot by Incin 2018-08-13T03:30:33Z

Very cool idea! I can see this idea being expanded on by adding power ups, more weapons, and different map configurations. Good work.

80-tnite by kamilko 2018-08-15T13:21:05Z

Very simple game but it works. I think it would be a good idea to notify the player when they've picked something up and let them know when the arena is about to close in by a block so they can time their route a bit better (add some strategy).

Falling Ecosystem by sprvrn 2018-08-21T14:40:44Z

Cool concept but hard to grasp at the start.

Chef Frank's Franks by GhostGoatsGames 2018-08-13T03:23:28Z

This is really cool! A bit like a condensed Overcooked. The controls are a bit hard to get used to, but everything worked smoothly.

Ultimate Furniture Stacker X-Treme by Norris Eldridge 2018-08-13T04:13:08Z

It looks like it has potential but it's impossible to move the character as intended as he just keeps spinning around wildly.

You May Live (YML) by SachaY 2018-08-15T13:04:21Z

Some notes while playing: - it's not obvious that the home screen is the actual game (looks like a screenshot) - I wasn't sure what to do at the calendar page - i find the bed screen hard to understand (I'm not sure what the numbers represent) - I found myself seeing the same patients over and over (maybe add a random patient generator or something to keep them unique?) - I really like the graphic style and atmosphere of the game - a few words mis-spelled (contry should be country, fot should be for, ennemy should be enemy) - telling me someone was murdered is interesting, but I wish I could do something to try and prevent it/figure out who it was and kick them out - i wish at the end it told me how many patients I managed to save/heal in the hospital

Climb by Albin 2018-08-13T13:32:11Z

A few tips: - spawn the objects off screen so the player can't see them spawn - write somewhere within the game that 'r' is to restart or have a retry button - allow for players to move the items (I got stuck in a little cave where I couldn't get squished but no more items could fit into where I was so I would never die)

Running out of Space by Gaoyuan Chen 2018-08-13T03:10:21Z

Very cool idea and very responsive. I find it gets too intense too quick when the a's start falling.

Claustro by Taimidori 2018-08-13T03:19:48Z

Game can't be found!

Shrinking Out by SoyerTek 2018-08-13T03:26:26Z

I find it gets too intense too quick (there needs to be a more gradual difficulty increase). Controls could be a bit more responsive, the character feels vert heavy. Cool idea though.

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-13T03:16:45Z

@gary-beebe ya it was my first time using Bosca Ceoil. As you can tell, I'm no musician.

@ghostgoatsgames thanks! The lag might be due to the animations being slightly delayed or your system having a hard time processing all the colliders.

@hive-mind thanks! glad you enjoyed it!

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-13T04:01:33Z

@ossi thanks! I actually had to use shoe's squeaking on my floor for that one cause I couldn't capture the sound of the actual markers!

@madar-games woah thanks! I have them spawning high up some times so people need to try and use their platforming skills to get up to them. I realize at the start it's tough if they're too high... maybe I can make the spawn range increase over the duration of the game.

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-13T13:55:50Z

@squirmonkey the screen was dark because the room I was taking the pictures in was dark. Thought about lightning it up but figured it went well with the atmosphere. Thanks for playing!

@willops @shinysteel @pancakevader @elenesski thanks for playing!

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-13T13:58:27Z

@hakro thanks for playing! glad it made you giggle! If you're lucky, you'll get a multi-colored portal and get to hear the powerup song I recorded using only my voice. Unfortunately for everyone, there is a bug where the powerup song loops forever until you restart the game... I like to think it makes it better.

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-13T13:59:36Z

@danielefisher thanks! glad you had fun!

@tcmxx @andy-d @akaneiro thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed it!

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-15T13:47:38Z

@alexander-tan haha I wanted to use a "marker writing on whiteboard" sound but I couldn't record it well enough so I had to record my shoe instead (since it sounds similar). You'd be happy to know that I decreased the intensity of it as it used to play every single time a drawing collided with anything else. :P

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-15T16:15:13Z

@antti-haavikko Thanks for the feedback!

The singing comes when you hit a multi-colored portal which gives you the ability to destroy all the treasure. It is supposed to be a goofy power-up song similar to when you get a star in Mario. However, after exporting the game, I noticed that it loops forever once you get it (and I didn't want to cheat and change the game after the fact).

I agree that the portals could use some work. I wanted to keep a platforming element that made players either actively try and avoid portals they didn't want to hit or actively seek out portal by any means necessary. I didn't have much time to balance it very well so it stayed random.

I had a hard time dealing with the explosion. I was going to add a longer timeout but realized that it was almost essential to be able to use it often in order to break down blocks. I found that the more you broke the blocks down, the hard it was to hit them and make them disappear (which was enough of a "penalty" for me given I was running out of time). I like your idea of it destroying the smallest blocks though (I'd have to add a warning to the blocks, however, to let the player know that once they explode near them, they'll be gone forever).

The art and sound took much more work than expected. I thought by drawing everything it would save me time, but I was way off. Thanks for playing!

DON'T RUN OUT OF SPACE by Paden Shorey 2018-08-16T18:28:57Z

@quetzakol thanks for playing!

@icxon thanks for the playthrough! looks like you caught the goofy music bug right at the start, I'll have to fix that.

Gassy Dancer [LD42] by PenguinPotential 2018-08-13T03:40:44Z

Very goofy and creative game. I don't really understand why I'm dancing though when I could just keep building up gas and letting it rip to keep the clouds/fans away.

Defragmentare: Bring Order to Chaos by monkeydom 2018-08-15T13:24:25Z

I don't really understand what I'm supposed to be doing so maybe a bit more explanation would help. Also, the movement isn't very smooth or responsive, maybe make the block you are currently dragging glow or change opacity or something to let you know which one you're moving. The graphics are nice though!

Zlinx by frontlinesaint 2018-08-13T03:14:06Z

I like how you have to master the levels and find shortcuts. You should try and make it clear that you can multi-jump. It's also a bit confusing that you can move and jump with wasd but can only move with the arrow keys.

Judgement by -Synth- 2018-08-13T15:28:18Z

It's hard to tell if your input is working correctly. I'm still not sure if I'm supposed to click or drag the icons and I'm not sure when I should ever use the neutral man. The numbers are also not clear and eventually it just leads to a black screen with no more information. More direction and feedback for the user is needed I think.

Oh no! This is monsters! by Alexey Akulovich 2018-08-13T13:50:15Z

This is really fun to play! The big demons tanks are hard to kill (if at all) but once I figured out you just need to destroy the portal, then it got a bit easier.

Get Off My Boat, You! by Eric Kulbiej 2018-08-13T13:26:06Z

The steering mechanics are cool. I don't have any solid recommendations, but I think it would be beneficial to make the steering feel more heavy so that you feel more in control of the big boat. Also, it is hard to make sharp turns to avoid certain swimmers (maybe a quick turn or drifting could help)?

A Way Out by sdrrv 2018-08-21T14:34:16Z

It's a bit unclear at the start what you are supposed to do, but the game is smooth. The loading screen seems unnecessarily long for what is being loaded (and the animation is very strange). The game is basic but has potential if different "balls" were added that had different effects.

Party Simulator by KotoriYousan 2018-08-13T03:19:05Z

The web resolution is too small to fit the game. Art looks cool, hope it gets fixed so we can test it out!

Save Me A Seat by chaitae 2018-08-13T15:22:17Z

The ambient sound is awesome and I like the art. The walk animation is a bit weird. Sometimes it looks like two people are in the same seat and the players render over the popcorn. Great concept.

Continuum by Hakro 2018-08-13T13:35:18Z

Just some notes while playing: - I thought I could use wasd but lost (then realized I had to use the arrow keys) - the sound for missing a key is painful to listen to - it's very easy to wain - the sound effect for getting a correct arrow doesn't get to finish playing if you're too fast - music is awesome

Trade Man: Out of Space by darkmonkey inc 2018-08-15T13:18:14Z

Notes while playing: - wish I could make the text appear by clicking instead of waiting for it to type out every time - its saying "let me speak to your manager!" and I have no idea how to progress - a lot of time between towns, making the player wait isn't fun for us (unless it's loading, which I don't think it is) - I really like the idea and I think with a graphic artist and some clean up, this could actually be a great strategic game - great use of the theme
