It looks like it has potential but it's impossible to move the character as intended as he just keeps spinning around wildly.

norris-eldridge 2018-08-13 04:16

Hey thanks for giving it a shot! The player will always walk towards where the mouse is in "world space" so if he's spinning around trying putting some distance between the character and the mouse, hopefully that helps and makes it more enjoyable!

mmason 2018-08-13 05:09

That was an experience in character movement. I think I get what you we going for and I kind of enjoyed it the second and third level. I think you might have benefited from a slightly higher pitch camera and more traditional controls. Nice work on the audio and the voice overs. For a Jam game made by one person it's got a very "full game" feel to it.

norris-eldridge 2018-08-13 06:03

Hey thanks! Yeah sounds like so far that's the common theme. In all honesty I like the crazy somewhat eratic movement as it kind of adds to the chaos lol almost like if Qwop were a game about moving furniture. Definitely true though that this is a good experiment with player control / player frustration.

addvector 2018-08-13 17:32

Controls are tricky but thats what makes it charming, really makes you feel like you're trying to get that couch around a n impossible corner. Audio is fantastic, the whole thing is too funny

norris-eldridge 2018-08-13 19:00

Hey thanks addvector lol I was starting to think I was crazy for allowing the controls to be wonky! Thanks for checking it out!

keppu 2018-08-16 09:56

I was stuck on loading the HTML5 for long time at first don't know why..

Idea is unique and fun. Game fits the theme well. Graphics are nice. Sounds fit right in. I like the manly voice associated with home decoration. Adds nice amount of humor in. Music gives pleasant mood to the game.

What kind of destroys this game are the controls. The character flies all over the place for no reason. If it would be a drunken character, it would make more sense.

For the fonts. The rules(https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules) state that using outside fonts are OK. you don't have to worry about that. :)

norris-eldridge 2018-08-16 20:33

Hey @keppu, thanks so much for playing and for your feedback! Yeah I'm kinda wishing I had called that out much more. I persoanlly like the flopping around and I think others would as well if it was messaged more clearly that that is part of the experience and part of what I find funny in the game. And good info to know on the fonts, thanks!

nam-nguyen 2018-08-17 07:18

Hey am I the only one that actually like the controls on this game? I wish you had told players in the beginning how to control the character, so I didnt have to guess how it is done. But once I found out that the control's forward direction is mapped to where I point my mouse to, it feels much easier navigating through the game. I guess it would be better if you allow an option to remap the control for others, but I personally like it this way. I think the game could have more feedback to picking up the phone. Sometimes Im not sure if I have picked it up or not.

Otherwise, I say the game is pretty ... erhm.. uhmm.. I don't know ... well done or something

norris-eldridge 2018-08-17 14:06

Hey @nam-nguyen, thanks so much for playing! I did actually have a "How to Play" page in there, did you see that page? Perhaps my explanation just wasn't very good lol

Good call on the feedback for the phone. There is supposed to be a voice you can here when you pick it up but I think the volume on that track is a bit to low so it can be missed in all the other sounds going on. Perhaps a visual of the phone slamming or something would have made that more clear.

Overall uhh... Thanks for like... Playing or something...

nam-nguyen 2018-08-17 14:15

@norris-eldridge Im the kind of player who never read tutorial and hope that the controls are intuitive LMAO. My bad, but your controls are pretty nice. Yeah a slamming animation would be very juicy \m/

norris-eldridge 2018-08-17 16:10

Lol fair enough I don't read either! Perhaps I can do a tutorial video or even a straight tutorial section for the next game :P

flaterectomy 2018-08-17 21:11

I am not sure what I just played. I don't *think* I stacked furniture, but I beat the game, so I must have done something right. It's a very cooky entry, and I dig that, but the controls were a little difficult to grasp. I moved to a fridge and spammed LMB to get a lot of +501s popping off.

All in all it was fun and weird and peculiar. +1

norris-eldridge 2018-08-17 22:34

Lol awesome @flaterectomy glad to hear that it sounds like you at least had some fun :P

matank 2018-08-18 06:12

Really liked the style on this one! The controls were clunky but I felt like that was part of the fun. I did beat the game :)

norris-eldridge 2018-08-18 06:14

@matank Great success! https://media.giphy.com/media/a0h7sAqON67nO/giphy.gif

I did really good.... so good I broke it

good and funny

norris-eldridge 2018-08-18 06:22

@parkerduncan OH MY! lol Dude! Achievement unlocked! I think that's a first. AND 63k style points!!11!!! Hot damn, the for real feng shui master has arrived lol

Thanks so much for giving my game a shot, glad you had fun!

hanin 2018-08-18 08:35

I really like the retro-aesthetic of the game. The Audio and Visuals are pretty nice!

My only problem with the game is that the controls were a little weird for me. Like I guess you can say that it's part of the game and that it's meant to be kinda finicky and infuriating and challenging but it's a very fine line that you tread I think.

Like I Am Bread has tight controls, it's the well-designed mechanics that makes it infuriating. QWOP has tight controls but it's infuriating because of how finicky the ragdoll is. While here using the mouse to turn is a 3D isometric game is a little off for me. If you want to make rotating also abit of a challenge, I'd rather you used tank controls or car controls in this instance.

Overall, it's a pretty solid game, in my opinion!

shakedimus 2018-08-18 10:00

I'm the feng shui master!! haha loved the humor and sound design. I did however also have a problem with the controls but I can understand that this adds to the moving house feeling. What I don't understand is, is there anyway to lose? Seems like you can just do nothing and the furniture will just pile up. To be honest for me this game wasn't fun because of the impossibility to lose and the weird controls but I like the idea and I can see it being very fun if it's elaborated on a bit, definitely keep the humor ;)

norris-eldridge 2018-08-18 13:25

@hanin fair enough! Controls do seem to be the biggest criticism so I'm sure you're probably right that there is a better control scheme for this sort of game. Definitely something I will have to play with more and think on for next time.

Thanks for playing!

norris-eldridge 2018-08-18 13:30

@shakedimus that's a fair critique. I didn't put in any sort of lose state for a couple reasons. 1 is that I wanted to put in a global leaderboard and just have that high score be the challenge rather than anything else. Unfortunately just didn't end up getting around to making that a reality and its hard to justify a server cost for a game jam game that only a handful of people will play :P 2 being that I personally thought it would be funny to have the player win and be acknowledged as this amazing interior designer regardless of how terrible they did, how much they just flopped around.

Thanks for giving my gave a shot and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the game's humor!

shakedimus 2018-08-18 14:40

@shakedimus It was indeed funny making a real mess and then hearing the feng shui master audio. That audio clip is really awesome!

annoyedcactus 2018-08-18 19:23

Super fun! I love the audio, and the retro aesthetic really adds to the expirience. As others have said, the controls are a little weird. WASD would have worked better if w made the charcahter go towards the player's view of up, not the way the charachter was facing. Apart from that, great game!

norris-eldridge 2018-08-18 19:32

@annoyedcactus Interesting idea for a control, set up! I'll have to try that out and see if that makes it feel a little tighter. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback :)

suve 2018-08-19 19:21

The controls are a bit tricky, since the character's movement is relative to where they're looking at (which means - where the mouse pointer is at), not relative to the room - but once you get used to that, it's a neat little game. I like the visual style. The music is very pleasant and rhythmic; the "announcer" also sounds cheerful and makes you want to play more. Really good job!

norris-eldridge 2018-08-19 20:55

@suve awesome thank you so much for playing and your feedback :)

arron-fowler 2018-08-19 22:09

I love how this looks. I found the playing of it mostly frustraiting. I wanted it to feel much easier. Altough I played it with a smile on my face.

norris-eldridge 2018-08-19 22:40

@arron-fowler well at least it was a pleasant frustrating experience lol :P

wrenpirate 2018-08-20 04:06

I'm not sure what I just played. I got that the mouse controls the player's direction. Frankly, that was a lot easier for me than games that use [w][s] for forward/back and [a][d] for rotating. I was distracted by the announcer calling "Eviction!" because it didn't seem to have any consequence. I wasn't, apparently, strong enough to actually move any furniture, which is not the kind of verisimilitude I look for in a game. The motion and bouncing of the player character were cute. I liked the music and the color palette. I especially appreciate the 3d view instead of top-down. I think I'm over top-down make-it-fit games.

rubixnoob13 2018-08-20 04:20

Fun little game, although the control scheme definitely didn't make sense to me at first. Solid entry though. If you have time, you should check out mine here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/space-shipping

norris-eldridge 2018-08-20 04:56

@wrenpirate hey thanks for playing and for your feedback. I can definitely see where you're coming from. There probably should be more actual consequences but mostly this game is just going for silly. Sorry to hear you ran into trouble with moving furniture though. Should be able to click on it and drag it around sorry if that didn't work for you. Thanks again for playing though :)

norris-eldridge 2018-08-20 04:56

@rubixnoob13 hey thanks for playing and yeah I will definitely check yours out!

wrenpirate 2018-08-20 05:00

@norris-eldridge Now that you mention clicking and dragging, that rings a bell. I barely skimmed the instructions and just plowed ahead because of my Y chromosome. I'll play it again! EDIT: Oddly, now the controls feels wilder to me. I have more trouble navigating with furniture in my grasp than when I thought I was supposed to push things. That might not be helpful feedback. You definitely achieved "silly."

norris-eldridge 2018-08-20 05:03

@wrenpirate awesome! Hopefully a better experience this time around :P

dingodize 2018-08-20 05:14

I found it really cool. It has a good aesthetics and the difficult movement adds challenge. A couple of things I would improve would be changing the stairs for ramps so taking things up would be easier and adding a Cursor(Mouse pointer) so its easier to tell where the character is looking. Great submission, keep it up!

heidi 2018-08-20 05:14

Audio and visuals fit together well! Took me a bit to figure out the movement controls but got it after messing around with the mouse for a little. Overall, cool game with a nice touch of spunk! :)

acekugen 2018-08-20 05:17

I like the game but the camera angle is weird which causes my movement to be weird

norris-eldridge 2018-08-20 05:18

@dingodize awesome glad you liked it! And thank you for your feedback! I had thought about do that but it was the last level I built and I was tired and lazy by that point lol thanks again for checking it out! :)

norris-eldridge 2018-08-20 05:19

@heidi yeah seems to be the trend lol lesson learned that controls need to be either incredibly intuitive or there needs to be a tutorial for the next game jam. Happy to hear that you enjoyed it and liked the audio and visuals! :) Thanks for taking so time to give it a shot!

norris-eldridge 2018-08-20 05:21

@acekugen yeah getting the right camera angle was tricky. I knew that I wanted an off camera angle like that but I never quite found the exact angle I was looking for and just had to move on to working on the rest of the game. Definitely something I will have to play with to be ready for the next jam! Thanks for playing!

heidelbert 2018-08-20 09:20

The movement mechanics are good! Don't know why multiple others complain. Gives it a certain edge. Graphics and sound are also cool. What I didn't get at all: what is the objective? After a while I just stood at the phone the entire time and pressed e when noticed. Then next level and so on. Is there more to it?

norris-eldridge 2018-08-20 15:07

@heidelbert thanks for playing! Yeah the "goal" for each level is pretty much trying to get as Hugh of a score as possible in each level. I had originally planned on making an actual leaderboard so that each level you could compete against other LD players. You earn points by placing the furniture in certain places (which is never really told to the player) or at the end by having furniture stacked. An improvement I think I'd make on this game given the time would have been to put down markers on the floor to show where a certain piece of furniture is supposed to go. I think that would have added in a bit more direction for the player. Thanks playing my game and for your feedback!

abhis1kadian 2018-08-20 15:53

@norris-eldridge I really liked the visuals and the music. Struggled with the controls at first but got a handle on them after few try. Nice game though. Do try our game too.

zinski 2018-08-26 17:05

I loved this little scoring game! The minimalist graphic style is really adorable and the immersion with this music is great! I think some visual effects and additional feedback might help to better understand what to do with furniture! Great job! :)

By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!

sn4pi 2018-08-26 17:07

I think your game has a lot of potential. The interpretation of the theme, the music and the idea of the game is good. I find the controls very awkward, I have to say because I never had such controls in another game. The graphics were simplistic but not bad which is good!

norris-eldridge 2018-08-27 05:55

@zinski thank you so much for playing! I totally agree. If I were a better artist more visual feedback would definitely be an area I'd spend more time on lol I will definitely be keeping that in mind for next time.

norris-eldridge 2018-08-27 05:56

@sn4pi thank you! Yeah, lesson learned on the control scheme on this game. I will definitely be going with a more traditional control feel on the next game.

andrei9 2018-09-04 18:25

Coool! Nice game  :) +++++

I want to buy an upholstered and large sofa, can you advise me in what store I can buy such furniture? I want to find exactly the quality and expensive furniture.

2022-09-29 06:56

I bought a modern sectional https://www.roomservice360.com/modern-living-room-furniture/sectional-sofas.html for my wife's birthday and she was just delighted! The pillows that come with the kit are made of luxury quality fabric, which does not fade and does not lose its shape after washing. In general, there are no cons, only pros. I can safely recommend you to look at their offers and choose something suitable for yourself
