LD42 — Running out of space

Office Builder by frankitox16 2018-09-02T10:07:53Z

@frankitox16 the html5 link is now dead :/ too bad your game looked pretty fun.

BurningLight by Ryu 2018-09-02T10:01:42Z

Thanks for making a Linux version :).

The game is a bit too hard for me but I really enjoyed the graphics. Also I value the consistency of the universe if that makes any sense, I mean you have different elements fire, air and water with the gameplay mixing them well together.

Under Pressure by Arthridas 2018-08-13T07:27:54Z

Thanks for making a Linux version !

I really like the concept, too bad it's a bit slow to finish: you don't really feel underpressure :). I also loved your character art ^^.

Since your game doesn't use other keys than directional I'd suggest you double your keys with the arrow keys, it's much better for non-qwerty users ;).

Escape through the Void by Ixio 2018-08-14T06:49:28Z

Thanks for your kind comments :).

@suve As you can probably guess I'm not really a sounds & graphics guy ^^, so my sounds effects are all recordings with some Audacity alterations. The "XXX built" thing is inspired from builder units responding in RTS games like peasants in Warcraft.

@cassowary Yup that was the original idea, having a map like a circle with a Void tile in the middle and tiles disappearing only near Void tiles: better a ring than a circle otherwise you'd just build at the center. I thought of making it probabilistic with a higher probability of creeping towards the players buildings to make it more challenging.

Escape through the Void by Ixio 2018-08-24T13:28:56Z

@alexkarate Thank you for pointing out that error in game logic, I completely overlooked that problem: oups ^^. Funny how psychology works, I'm sure that a surprising number of players would never try to build on void tiles (myself included obviously).

@diaxcor What extra instructions would you like to see ? I could probably add something so people understand more easily that they need to select a building and click on the map to build it. However I think most players can, and have, guessed that: it's kind of a standard game mechanic. I don't really want to change anything now but I'll keep that in mind for the next LD, thank you.

Thank you all for your comments. Next LD I'll definitely try to spend more time, making a game less random and that is longer. I also was pretty impressed by LMMS so I'll be sure to explore this tool and hopefully make better music.

Running out of Space by tom7 2018-08-13T11:05:38Z

Thanks tom7 for the Console trick, I wouldn't have had the patience otherwise.

I didn't quite get the "Running out of space part" till I got to fitting the last object, nicely done!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Partners by kassanu 2020-05-09T09:27:52Z

Pretty fun, I agree with your need for better balancing. At one point I was pined down by a zombie horde but damage is so slow that I had time to push them back (I forgot about F for close combat) even though it took me a long time.

I understand wanting to make us uncertain about our friend but at the same time it's missing some kind of feedback : a score for example ? I fed my friend three times before stopping on my own, not sure if I saw the whole game.

Life On Mars by Yorsh 2020-04-22T17:05:21Z

I loved the concept, such a fun take ! The audio was pretty great and lot's of humor in it. Graphics-wise I especially like the scanning, that was very cool !

VirusTD by RaccoonLudos 2020-04-20T17:20:39Z

Nice take on the tower defense genre ;).

Nice graphics too though the inferface is a bit awkward, I didn't realize at first how to build (for people with the same problem: click on the map (not the path) and then on the "Produce" label).

Is there a winning condition ? After a while the game just stopped spawning waves for me, infinite waves with ever-harder opponents would be the usual way of forcing an end ;).

Tiger Chow by Dan Thompson 2020-05-11T17:09:04Z

Fun little game ! I agree with the precision problem on cuts for the roadkill sections. I instinctively tried cutting a bit far out from the arrow, I almost stopped playing when it didn't work but reading the comments I re-tried making my cuts start right at the bottom of the arrow : this goes against my big cutting instincts :stuck_out_tongue:

Hommel by Supernapie 2020-05-01T16:36:52Z

I really enjoyed how the music changes and picks up according to our actions, such an awesome touch ! Plus the game overall is quite nice with minimal but pleasing graphics. Not very challenging overall but pretty fun neverless.

Theogenesis by Ixio 2020-04-20T06:48:39Z

As the game is: your "race" is against time but I probably could've balanced that a bit better.

You are right about the game being currently bland : I think I would have added a highscore and army troops chasing you if I had managed to spend more of my weekend on this. I also had an idea about heritic factions spawning randomly from your convert, that would probably have worked a bit like your vilain idea.

Thank you for playing, your feedback and ideas .

Theogenesis by Ixio 2020-04-20T18:47:05Z

@nick-barrash, @cooperjknapp no tutorial or control panel but the Help button gives an explanation and talks about keyboard arrows. However adding more controls and clearer indications probably will be a good idea for next time.

@kidanger last time I used my own voice but espeak makes it so much simpler and faster , however robot voice isn't too great for this game : I was hoping they would have some more human-like voices but I didn't find one.

@cogcomp, @jabdownsmash as usual I had a lot of ideas that I didn't find time to implement. Maybe I'll try to make an expanded edition of this game later on .

@technosander haha I'm glad not everyone succeeds on the first try, you get to see my "You Lose" dialog.

@taffaz good feedback if I improve the game later on I'll definitely take your advice.

Thanks people for having tried it out and your kind comments

Theogenesis by Ixio 2020-05-11T16:56:00Z

Thanks @gandalfderwaise, @catomag, @flying-dog-fish, @cheesepencil I'm glad you played and it's always pleasing to get nice comments !

@jcourt yeah the music is a bit better than on my first jam but I should definitely take some time to figure out a way to make better music. I think I'll try to reword this and make it a better version, if I do : music is on the list !

@dan-thompson true a lot of people put that info in their entry page, that kind of information duplication doesn't hurt : I'll keep it in mind for my next jam !

Bomber Escort (or boomer escort) by thatOtherNerd 2020-05-01T17:19:44Z

Great job for a first jam ! It's kind of funny though how the enemy plane has the same color scheme as our allied bomber while we have a different one, at first I was a bit confused as to why I was controlling the enemy plane .

Mad Sorcerer's Garden by AsgardHeavy 2020-04-22T16:53:20Z

Did you also start learning Godot just for this compo ? Small git tip : use a .gitignore file to avoid pushing .import and .mono folders that aren't really code but more build artefacts

This is my second compo and time is always hard to manage. Congratz on getting such a neat result on your first compo ! If you want to avoid having unusable features due to missing art maybe include art in your MVP mindset and use placeholder minimal art . But then you'll probably end up with only your bad placeholder art like me

I enjoyed your original take on the TowerDefense genre, I liked the plants growing and withering : that was pretty cool.

Circle of Life (Unfinished) by mvanbaalen 2020-05-01T17:13:04Z

I'm glad you submitted it even unfinished, this was a nice idea of population simulation : I think I would've really enjoyed it if you had managed to finish it .

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Hag's Hug by Spaghetti 2022-04-13T17:07:10Z

Such great graphics and sound, plus a good gameplay. Just one nitpick : it doesn't seem like the break stuff to distract works with the spectral hands, right ? Which is a bit of a shame because pretty quickly they become the biggest thing to avoid in game so there is a big mechanic that becomes quickly obsolete (though I guess some might keep at it for the fun ).

Also I really enjoyed your "lives" mechanic, instead of the classic fade-to-dark and reboot your way is awesome. Plus it's a much better fit to the ending. Great job !

Doomed Drone Defence by Skyward4d 2022-04-07T19:58:10Z

Upgrades are such fun, good job on that ! :)

As said by others that start is a bit slow when you are OP. However I liked that there was some variations even later on, my last run was 220secs and I was wondering if the game had anything left new when I got a huge wave of hunters : nicely done !

Only thing I felt was missing was the sense of inevitability, I get that it's endless waves but we're so used to games with levels that it doesn't quite translate that way to me. Maybe a fuel shortage after a while ? Or something story related ?

Not sure if this is a web version issue (navigator?) but I got some crashes at the end of levels.
