Minimalistic, but fun. It took me a while to understand that the strange noises is actually a person saying "XXX built". :D

It's a fun concept, and the tension as stuff slowly disappears is nice. it does a good job of keeping you on the edge of your seat!

It might be cool if the tiles disappeared in a more predictable way (like having a higher chance to disappear near where a tile has already disappeared, or some such), because then you could strategize more in where you place things, rather than feeling like you're at the mercy of the random number generator.

Thanks for your kind comments :).

@suve As you can probably guess I'm not really a sounds & graphics guy ^^, so my sounds effects are all recordings with some Audacity alterations. The "XXX built" thing is inspired from builder units responding in RTS games like peasants in Warcraft.

@cassowary Yup that was the original idea, having a map like a circle with a Void tile in the middle and tiles disappearing only near Void tiles: better a ring than a circle otherwise you'd just build at the center. I thought of making it probabilistic with a higher probability of creeping towards the players buildings to make it more challenging.

It's really effective even if graphisms are very minimalist ! The game is well balanced : not too easy and not too hard. Congratulation for your first Ludum, I hope you'll be there to the next one !

For a first game it's pretty good :) Yeah, more patterns of disappearing would be a good thing, maybe experiment with them in post-compo version

Idea of game wasn't good so game isn't actually too. I like that kind of games but that one havn't impressed me. You had time to make something better and I'm not saying bout graphics but gameplay. 2-3 hours more and I belive that this game could be so much better. GL

I needed some moments to understand the game, regarding controls and how to play. But I played it 3 times and for the minimalizm I really enjoyed it. I had a hard time to understand what you say with "Mine build" and "Powerplant build", the sound quality could have been a bit better.

The minimalism plays really well with this one and considering the time frame of LD this is really well made!

Nice game! Really cool and interesting! :D

alexkarate 2018-08-23 16:15

The game is 100% dependant on RNG. If the game wants you to make 0 power plants, it will destroy every one of them. It is also possible to build buildings on air, which is actually more efficient as there's a smaller chance of that building being destroyed as it creates a "new" tile which hasn't been destroyed yet. Still, a fun game.

Well done as a first game. Would have loved some music and the game to bring up the mood and stress level. It took a while to figure out how the construct things so a short explainer text would be nice next time :)

dragojt 2018-08-23 18:06

The concept for this jam is well worked, so points on that. However I think the game is too easy. It reminded me to a clicker-like game at first. Also, the audio for stereo users seem to pan only to the right.

Well done for your first entry :)

diaxcor 2018-08-23 18:13

please put some instructions and thank you

kromeboy 2018-08-24 12:59

The concept is cool, but it seams kind of random. I have managed to win with 3 mines, but I was quite lucky

ixio 2018-08-24 13:28

@alexkarate Thank you for pointing out that error in game logic, I completely overlooked that problem: oups ^^. Funny how psychology works, I'm sure that a surprising number of players would never try to build on void tiles (myself included obviously).

@diaxcor What extra instructions would you like to see ? I could probably add something so people understand more easily that they need to select a building and click on the map to build it. However I think most players can, and have, guessed that: it's kind of a standard game mechanic. I don't really want to change anything now but I'll keep that in mind for the next LD, thank you.

Thank you all for your comments. Next LD I'll definitely try to spend more time, making a game less random and that is longer. I also was pretty impressed by LMMS so I'll be sure to explore this tool and hopefully make better music.
