LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Crunch Time by gelisam 2017-12-05T03:28:20Z

I sadly cannot start it (Ubuntu x64). This is my output:

---------------------------------

RtApiAlsa::getDeviceInfo: snd_pcm_open error for device (hw:0,0), Device or resource busy.

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error' what(): RtApi::openStream: a non-NULL output StreamParameters structure cannot have an nChannels value less than one. Aborted (core dumped)

Why this startup script? What is its purpose?

RQ5: backup-dancer rampage! by Adrien Dittrick 2017-12-05T14:01:24Z

I really like how you get to know the controls while playing the game without much of an explicit tutorial required. The movement is a bit weird: Instead of ignoring keyStrokes off-beat, queueing them (and executing them in the fitting moment) would probably feel better.

------------------------ Bugreport: When moving right, and a person is moving left, the new zombie dancer sometimes glitches into the dancer-group. This makes it easier to play.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Fistula Cleaning Crew by Local Minimum 2021-04-28T20:34:32Z

Wow, that was an interpretation of the theme that I definitely did not think about :D

A live score display would be immensely helpful I think. In my first playthrough I didn't know what the objective was (also I didn't see the small continue button on the intro text and jumped straight in), and as soon as I saw the end I flew back up, searching for the end of the game and not finding anything. So stating that "reaching the bottom" is the goal would be quite important I guess.

And congratulations on producing a sequel game to a previous LD game - never managed to do this before :)

Between the Lines by Markus 2021-04-28T19:49:25Z

Can you tell us what error specifically you got, @jaco-van-hemert ? Maybe we can fix it :)

Mine Flower by Denzil Gomes 2021-04-28T20:59:29Z

I won! :)

You produced a very nice game and can be proud of it :) animations and graphics are awesome, the level was not tedious but instead filled with new interesting things every minute - really impressive.

Small things to maybe adjust: There should probably be more damage feedback - on the player as well as on enemies (flashing red / hit sounds / particles / corpse remnants / ...) - more "juice" in general, if you know what I mean (have you seen "the art of screenshake" by vlambeer? Has some very good suggestions for juiciness imho)

The collectable gems should probably be a bit bigger, and should matter in some way (maybe a score counter in the corner?)

Deeply Organic by DoctorTM 2021-04-28T20:01:41Z

very fun mixture of games :) You did well on the theme as well :)

Some small things: - the enemies in the 3d fight scene didnt collide with each other. It was very easy to run around in circles, let them all converge into a single point, and then slash them all with a single sword blow. They should either leave more distance to each other, speed up over time, or have different behaviour. Also, there was some UI bug: https://postimg.cc/2LBW0W9v - after that, i continued playing in non-fullscreen, and everything was fine again

The Mystery of Stalore-9 by Arthur Mairs 2021-04-28T20:41:19Z

I am playing the web version, but everything is just black after I click play. I can hear the AI speaking and the gunshots? when clicking the mouse, but the screen stays black. Is this intended, or is there something not working?

The Rite of Shadows by Jaco van Hemert 2021-04-28T19:48:18Z

Really nice idea for that topic - going deeper into your own mind. Awesome story elements :)

The gameplay was a bit too hard for me, though. I gave up after dying 5 times at the boss (the first boss?) I just lost too much focus too quick, and I don't know how close to beating the boss I was. Maybe some kind of health bar would have been nice to motivate the player.

I think, having a shoot attack rather than a melee/slash would have been nice. When fighting the boss, orienting myself, attacking and dodging his moves all at once felt a little overwhelming. Shooting him from a distance would have been easier :)

Deep Sleep by Link270 2021-04-28T20:46:04Z

Sadly, this game apparently requires vulkan drivers for linux (cannot work with OpenGL), so I cannot test it. Maybe release a web build?

Rabbit Rappel by MatterLinx 2021-04-28T20:19:38Z

That is a beautifully polished game, congratulations, would buy it for switch if I had one :D

The part with the golden hanging spikes was a bit tough for me, it seemed like their hitboxes were quite big (touching them from the bottom also killed me). And since the last checkpoint was quite far away, I lost my patience after three deaths there. Also, the death end respawn was always instant, maybe having a short death animation, a "press space to respawn" and permanent blood on your last death position would be nice. But those are really nitpicky complaints - you game is awesome :D

Into the Forest by asdfman 2021-04-28T21:12:51Z

Reminded me a lot about "slender - the eight pages" and brought back some good old memories - thank you for that :)

I also walked into that invisible wall, but the part before that was good.

In general, the gameplay felt a bit unpolished: Those monsters just got to you from behind and you were dead, and I sometimes didn't know which direction to go as I could not differentiate between the next waypoint and the ones where I already were.

So maybe add a hint for when an enemy identifies and charges you? Add audio feedback (rising tension in music) or visual one (bloody screen or something similar) when an enemy is close to you. As GMTK put it once: Good enemy AI tells you what it is thinking.

Maybe the waypoints cou change color / disappear when you collide with them?

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Fighter Flight Sim by chunkybrewster 2018-04-27T19:30:18Z

This game is crazy, definitely. I don't know what is happening, I have absolutely no clue why, and all the passengers are 3 models, cloned 20 times. Hitting babies feels wrong, if I do not know why I should do this. This lacks some sort of storytelling.

Learn Math With Flappy Bee by nusan 2018-04-27T18:14:56Z

Is this the way of solving that level? :D lol.png

Definately fun to play around with functions! The graphics are cute, but the music gets a bit repetitive over time.

I found the controls inintuitive at the beginning: Drawing a line from a block to the delete button is not my first idea when trying to remove buttons. But when you are getting used to it, its nice playing around with making the bee fly

The Black Market of Fun by mikethewayne 2018-05-13T19:37:23Z

This is a big game. There is a lot of story, of concepts, a big market system, lots of items... I think this is a bit much for a ludum dare. It is not a nice experience to read the tutorial 3 minutes and then still not understanding how to properly handle the running game. The "work" was really not funny. I know, it was meant to be like that for the story, but it makes it hard for me to enjoy the game. In general, it is really hard to make progress.

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-05-13T18:46:41Z

Really cool idea! Shooting from the dots of the die is a nice concept. Enemies that need a specific type of shot made it all pretty funny. A bit of sound design could have helped. It's sad that it was over so fast. Some more levels (or even an endless mode) could help here :)

Just bullet: A turn-based hell by zeu31 2018-04-27T18:41:18Z

You definitely adhered to the theme very well! A turn based bullet hell is something i could never imagine, but (especially in level 2) it was really good: I was happy to have the time of carefully selecting my walking path through the bullet maze :)

it feels weird that you and enemies follow the grid, but bullets move freely (at least it seemed like it?). So sometimes I was not sure whether a given cell has a bullet on it or not. Also, their movement could have been a bit animated (when they just jump from one location to the other, you can loose track of them and hardly feel how fast they actually are)

She Against The World by Snowy 2018-04-27T20:32:23Z

Sorry, but I cannot grasp the goal of the game. Where do I have to go? It takes a lot of time to discover the map, because I have to watch all the dead deers and their running animations, without them actually moving (most of the time).

There are some problems with wall collisions (you touch a wall and lose all your momentum)

I really like the art style, the voices and the background music.

From the Breach by erebus 2018-04-27T20:48:24Z

nice game idea, beautifully designed map, cool car physics. I would have needed slightly bigger roads to drive around the curves in full speed. Colliding with the border of the road and getting stopped by them is quite annoying.

The minimap already helps giving you an overview, but I still had the feeling of not knowing what is going on currently. I would propose a static minimap isntead (where you always see the full map, maybe with a big pointer to your position) instead, maybe in combination with a "press space to zoom out" - functionality (or "press alt to look behind")

A health bar per enemy could also help in indicating how effective your current turret setup is

All in all a really good entry :)

SeaDogs by NotSpaghettiGames 2018-05-13T19:00:28Z

Nice game, but quite hard. I never got more than 600 points. It was not always clear to me, whether the captain is currently seeing me or not. There should probably be a more clear indicator (like a screen-space warning sign, or the view frustrum of him changing from blue to red or something similar) Also the walking was sometimes problematic. It was slow and slow in turning (no problem - part of the game), but sometimes the hitbox with the cannons and the plank stairs were a bit weird.

I liked the "Yee be shark bait" easter egg :D

You could maybe make it a bit easier, by e.g. allowing more than 3 concurrently open tasks

Acute Stronghold by BalladofSong 2018-04-27T19:11:11Z

Cannot play, due to the error "An error occured running the Unity content on this page. See your browser's JavaScript console for more info. The error was: SecurityError: The operation is insecure."

Acute Stronghold by BalladofSong 2018-04-27T21:22:33Z

It actually worked in edge, but not in firefox :o

Are you sure that 3 + __8__ * 6 / 2 = 30? Feels like there should be a 9 instead...

The King of The Hill by Alex13 2018-04-27T21:35:23Z

I like how the game is all about getting familiar with the controls. But maybe some more introduction could help there.

Kinesis Test by Kami 86 2018-04-27T19:07:48Z

Nice idea, but improvement potential in the implementation of the idea... Clicking the cards was somehow slow. Especially in level which require timing, having keyboard shortcuts would have helped a lot. The manual re-drawing of cards felt a bit pointless. There is no reason for the player to not reveal flipped cards instantly , so you should probably: - give the player a reason for it (e.g. make the character slower with more revealed cards / gain a higher score in the end the fewer cards the player revealed) **or** - reveal cards instantly when discarding old cards

I really liked the graphics style / character animations and the music
