LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Within Yourself by impiaaa 2021-05-04T05:36:16Z

Solid block puzzle game that fits with the theme well with the inter-nested levels within each other! I appreciate the undo button and like the quick and snappy puzzles. Was a short and sweet playthrough!

Deeper Space by NaraJeamfry 2021-05-04T05:13:57Z

I like the art and music for this! I couldn't get any of the interactable objects to work except the asteroid shooting interface at the front of the ship (which did freeze my game when I did try it), but I appreciated being able to explore the ship and liked the sprite art. I can see a cool framework here where you do lots of tasks around the ship to keep it safe. Nice effort!

The Rim by jokerbomb 2021-04-30T03:16:22Z

There's some cool world building and mood with this game! I liked the writing and the dialogue. I also liked the idea of that the tether is something you need to protect and pay attention to as you descend further, which creates some interesting thinking around how you should move. Solid music too!

One-Butt Alien Corridor by PeachTreeOath 2021-04-29T05:23:50Z

This is quite good! I found it quite fun to direct the cones of fire from your marines to aliens coming your way. Definitely a really great foundation if you wanted to build a bigger game from this mechanic. I think this game would be elevated if there was more feedback immediately on the marine icons when you select them/when they take damage or when you issue them orders. Very solid work!

Save The Captain by sonmi 2021-04-29T04:38:04Z

I liked the diorama like environment perspective along with the sprite art used on a 3D background. It's a cool idea- there's something to a 3D grid avoidance game where you need to worry about the captain along with yourself. Short, but makes a neat impression!

Operation: Sub-Deep by BatJak03 2021-04-29T03:59:01Z

Simple, but very well put together game! Really satisfying to move around and avoid all these fish while picking up coins. I'm reminded of bullet hell games, but I like this because it's a much more chill version of the same idea. Nice arcade feel, I played a few times to get a good dive score. Love the fish sprite art, and I thought it was a nice touch to use the coins to buy fish for an aquarium. Nice work!

Digtet by Sentmoraap 2021-05-04T05:02:52Z

This is a really cool concept! It did take me a few tries to fully understand the game, but when I did, I found this addicting to play! I like the twist on Tetris, the behavior is similar, but it makes you rethink the usual block placement strategy in a fun way. I like the general feedback for clearing blocks, some nice visual and audio touches there that made clearing my first line a cool moment. After clearing my first line I was hooked for quite a bit, haha. Nice work!

Chicken Robot on Mars by Koroshi 2021-04-30T03:24:05Z

I liked the way lighting was handled overall, there is a neat dynamic when the bullets are visible in the dark but you can't see the enemies in the dark. Same thing for how you can only see where you're moving, but you can also shoot in all directions. Made combat interesting to play! I'd say that the falling segments are the hardest part, since it felt like the only way to progress past those parts is to memorize them.

The Story of little Fishi by philipprapp95 2021-04-29T04:33:07Z

Cute little game! I was most surprised by the neat control scheme where you move the camera instead of moving the fish, I really liked how the fish moved with your camera. I also liked the chill and pleasant mood. I didn't end up doing anything with the anglerfish and just moved past it to save Eleanor- but I was able to finish the game anyways. Nice work!

aMAZEing Mine by DorianSnowball 2021-04-30T03:42:27Z

This is a very cerebral game! Took a few tries to understand the tile placement mechanic, but found it really satisfying to place a tile and offset the maze in a way to find a good path downward. Very innovative mechanic! I couldn't figure out how to use a specific tile to make complex moves- most of the time I used any tile in my inventory so that I could just offset the maze in a way that I could continue further. Using tiles like this still works well, I'm just bad at reading a few moves ahead. It's worth noting that it looks like the character has an intro animation where the controls don't seem to work until they're done animating (they say Rock and Stone when they are controllable)- I thought my keyboard wasn't working for the first few attempts at first, but I got past it. All in all, nice work!

Ringularity - Black Hole Orbital Combat Simulation by philliptrudeau 2021-05-04T04:33:28Z

Pretty cool idea, there's definitely a nice framework here. Took a bit to realize I was in control of the spaceship- I was able to figure it out and move around eventually, but I think my difficulty had to do with the slow speed of the game. The slow speed really did make each movement feel really weighty though. Felt satisfying to fire a salvo of shots at an enemy ship and see their flight path move with gravity. Very cohesive idea!

Dream Diver by Stephen Scott Day 2021-04-30T03:07:05Z

This is a really cool take on the theme, and a very off the wall mechanic too that was fun to play with! Definitely fits the theme well, and is oddly satisfying to roam the level, strategically charging and firing the sedative at your target to maintain the sleeping timer. It's a little like dream Hitman- there's a fun frantic feeling of scouring the level for the target after going one layer deeper. I found it really funny after my dozen attempts that the first red person was riddled in sleeping darts, haha. Overall, nice work!

Elevator to Hell by SpookyTrain 2021-05-04T04:18:33Z

I liked the variety of enemy behavior and types (some fast and low health, some slow high health). The player abilities are cool too, I particularly like the temporal dodge for slow-mo. Kind of wished that you could use the shockwave attack to knock enemies off of the elevator platform. Not a bad take on the theme!

Afterlife by Nekopi 2021-05-04T05:26:12Z

I really like the theme and aesthetic of this one! It's like a Doom style take on Downwell, which is a cool twist, and a great formula to build on. Solid art and music, cool character designs. Very cohesive and nicely presented. Nice work!

Operation Gridius by flaxhass 2021-05-04T04:49:35Z

I liked the art in this one! The animation of the main character and the bubble VFX were nice! Movement of the character was good too. I had a bit of a jump scare moment when the squids attacked me, but after lowering the game volume I was able to continue. I enjoyed how the game wasn't too punishing when knocking against other enemies and I felt like I had enough time to find all of the key items to win. Neat work!

apocalypse of darkness wonderful nightmare by muzakefron 2021-04-29T06:28:23Z

Whew, this game was intense! I admire the fast paced, in your face, frenetic mood this game has. I wasn't able to make it past level 1, but I liked the enemy variety and the character moveset.

Mariana's Trench by mmisspelling 2021-04-29T06:37:55Z

This game felt really unique! Had a interesting creepy vibe to it, but not so creepy that I was scared of it. The writing and art assets for the creatures did a good job to create an off kilter atmosphere that I liked. Nice work!

Flying! In Space! But with Asteroids! by Syrail 2021-04-30T04:28:56Z

This really captures the uneasy feeling of being in a dangerous situation of being in an asteroid field while your ship could blow up at any moment. Really like the soundscape and the visuals, I particularly liked the sfx for when asteroids hit the ship with the alert sound. I had a hard time playing this since the mouse sensitivity was very high, and I wasn't sure how to repair my ship or keep it's blue fuel filled. Still though, there's a neat premise in here with the multitasking of piloting your vessel and fixing the parts of it to win.

Last stop by Asephy 2021-04-29T06:12:16Z

Some good stuff here! I enjoyed the visuals on this one, I liked the way the fog parted and the ripple effects all around the water. The paddling mechanic was simple but satisfying as a way to move. Liked the slow, chill methodical pacing of it. I could definitely see this being built out with characters that have extra story as you ferry them to the tornado- there were hints of that in the man you ferry over.

Elevator oddysey! by timepass 2021-04-29T05:39:26Z

There were some neat ideas in there, I liked the grappling hook and wall running segments in level 1. I was only able to make it to level 2, I had a hard time jumping across the minecraft style blocks in the beginning of that level. I think that part would've been made easier if I didn't have to turn around from the moon to start the level, it'd make it faster to retry those jumps.

Into the Painting by JellyfishFromMars 2021-04-29T03:47:12Z

Very cool experience, I liked the tone of the game all the way through! Definitely had a surreal feeling to it. Good music. Really liked the shader effect for the painterly feeling around the levels. The end was a little abrupt, but overall the game left a good impression to me after completing it. Nice work!

The deepest curse by Bobafett89 2021-04-29T06:01:19Z

This is a decent platformer! I wasn't able to complete the game, but I was impressed with the amount of levels and content this game had. Liked each powerup- each were fun additions to the character moveset. I was able to get the double jump before I ran out of lives. It was a little tough for me to maneuver with keyboard, but I found each little platforming area satisfying to do. Little bit of extra movement acceleration when beginning to move the character after pressing a key so that they don't go into full speed immediately might help here- it'd help the cases where I was trying very carefully to feather the movement so I don't walk into spikes. The levels where you'd have to traverse down wide vertical corridors that had rows of spikes that you had to dash over to fall further through were the hardest for me, maybe because the gravity was too fast for me to react to things coming from beneath the screen. Nice work on this!

Spooky Ocean Game by CasualNothing 2021-04-29T04:22:39Z

Simple game, but it definitely captures the spooky mood of diving deep underwater. I like the vignette effect and how simple and effective it is at making you feel claustrophobic in the ocean. It took me a while to realize the number counter wasn't a depth meter, so I wasn't sure what that was. I unfortunately got pretty lost and couldn't find the plates needed to go to the lower depths.

Detective Pier by Nikita Krasnytskyi 2021-04-29T05:06:52Z

Not a bad setup for a detective mystery! I liked the different suspects and how each of them could've had plausible motives for the murder. There were some good clues you got by clicking on parts of the crime scene, I kind of wished that I could revisit those clues somehow, like the exact shoe size. The notepad is a good start- keeping more thorough details in there would be helpful!

Spectregram by blob 2021-04-30T04:07:39Z

Wow, I was really impressed by this one! I'm a sucker for photography games, and the color wheel mechanic was a great twist that makes this shine quite well. I really liked how the subjects would have subtle hints of visibility if you were looking at them just out of phase, which was super helpful for finding most of them. Had a small mind blown moment when I figured out you could platform on certain subjects, it was really cool! Using the color phase in tandem with the alien-esque art made for really interesting visuals too. Fantastic work!
