LD2 — Construction/Destruction

Sheep Town by ShredWheat

Wow. Very orignal and fun, but a bit easy. Excellent integration of the gameplay and cosmetics -- it's the one of the very few that would be hard to just replace sheep. It looks hectic at times but it never becomes unmanagable. Build a bunch of wells and keep up a steady rotation of shepards in and out of town. I love that, that it's so realistic in that regard; that's probably how I'd run a town. Also, I really like the building up to town thing.

Only downsides are how short and easy to beat it is (I like the graphics).

Hitsuji: Shears Of Fury by Jamul

Very nice. Good feel to the controls and easy enough to pick up right away but, uh, 'hard to master'. No construction or destruction, really. Also, I know for a fact that allegro's built text output functions can use transparent backgrounds, so, heh, why the black boxes?

Whew.. still, buggy by Ufo Z

Very original, but unfortunately not too fun now, mainly due to the enemy. They pose little threat (they never use turrets) and, if you could drop metal pieces and if the collision detection didn't get you caught so often, they'd be really easy to take out completely. Two players only might've been a better choice (in the context of this contest)...

ADD ON: I tried the bug fix with the suicide key and I can say that it makes the game a lot less frusterating. In fact, now that I don't have to worry about getting stuck, the game is better. Still short and little replay value, but a fun five minutes.

save the sheep by UberHaxor

Yeah, definately mouse control. Also, the piece and the piece shadow that shows whether it's a legal move should've been combined (make the piece itself differently colors or have only a shadow) as it sometimes hard to see what doesn't fit and why. If those were fixed (and maybe a bigger map), the game would be a lot better. Right now, it's too frustrating to be much fun.

Sheep Strike by PoVRAZOR

Interesting idea, like Fortress but without the identical opponent. A bit too easy to be fun (though the post compo version is nice), but great graphics and the reversal of the sheep and the wolves is cool.

Final submission of "Living Sheep" by mikedoty

This could be great but right now, Living Sheep is fun for a bit but mostly frustrating and empty. First, the faulty collision detection, between missiles a blocks when a sheep is right next to the block and between missiles and sheep (I once killed the sheep that shot the rocket with the same rocket). Next, being able to kill your own sheep is annoying and should probably be removed. Last, make more levels; it only has one "real" map now (the first two are essentially the same destroy-one-block things and the third is a just sheep that goes into the exit). With this, Living Sheep would be great.

Bathroom Teacher by mrfun

Fun for a bit, but like most games without a goal, it gets boring. The whole presentation is good and it is fun to try to get combos, but this doesn't fit the theme. At all.

Sheep Attack by SodoMaxx

Fun and original, and the sheep herding aspect is used nicely. The initial confusion (for EVERY map) can be forgiven, but I wish their were more maps. Sound, graphics, and overall presentation are nice, but, like most, the gameplay theme is mostly ignored.

Sheep & Crates by elak

Best graphics I seen so far! Also, the gameplay is unique (not really deep, but creative) and it is fun for a few matches. No big problems or anything. Good entry!

Mut Shbin by Thenend

Fun, too tough, and more replay value than most. Again, hard; getting destruction points for taking out helicopters would've been nice too. um... no construction, I like the graphics and the music; gives it an odd feel, the random map thing is cool. Good entry, except for the lack of construction.

Final by entheh

Very hard. I want to enjoy this so much but it's far too hard. It's the type of game that forces you to come in with a plan. Unfortunately -- and this is my biggest problem -- you have no control over what you're getting. The first person view makes it too hard to react fast enough (because you can't see everything at once) to deal with a whole string of pieces that aren't what you need. If you were given a limited amount of each piece to use in whatever order you choose (3 or 4 each) and then a regular deck to resort back to, the game would be so much more fun (i.e., less frustrating). Otherwise, good entry: creative idea, good graphics, nice musc.

Onslaught! Sounds intriguing, no? by bugboy

Great idea and fun too, but it doesn't seem like I have that much effect on my survival. Also, the game froze completely once when it had too many bullets on screen.

Sheep O Rama by Bastian von Halem

Good idea, though the implementation has a few flaws, mainly that you can't pass through or destory your own barriers. Also, no destruction... It would be so much more fun if I could get barriers...

BallerSchaf - Sheep of Death by Balooga03

Good presentation overall, but the gameplay doesn't really fit the theme and without any real goal to reach, it gets boring.

Sheepenstein by drZool

Very creative and well presented. Even fun at points! However, the inability to construct more than one sheep at a time, the fact that the 'On' button isn't always on (even when I have a full sheep), and the bug that doesn't let you drag sheep parts that land on the van (it interprets thems as clicks to let more sheep go not clicks to grab parts) make it a lot less fun than it should be. I would really, really love to see a post-contest version of this with those things fixed.

Attack Sheep by Zaphos

Great idea and fun until you realize the programming language is missing some essential pieces to making a good sheep killing robot (more than one laser type, pieces that check the ground tiles, etc.). The one level is fairly easy to beat, but you have to make a specialized robot rather than a general purpose one. There's nothing inherently wrong with this, but you don't have enough levels to support it. The potential fun is very obvious (level one was great for a while), just not finished yet.

(the fun is hard to rate here because it's great fun but in a very small dosage)

Entry by DavemanInSeattle

The game was really cool at first because I thought you had to lure the wolf over and then blow up fences to kill him, but once I realized that that was impossible, the whole thing seemed kind of pointless. I never got any points, but the graphics and sounds were good.

Sammy The Sheep by Tybal

Kind of fun, but not really that interesting. The contruction is really awkward and doesn't really seem that important, and the "destruction" is only of enemies, which doesn't (to me) really count. Also, what's with the really high resolution for such a simple game? It seems to hurt speed a bit. Again, fun sort of.

chicken by yq713

A lot could be done with the concept, but this game doesn't do much.

Sheep Dome by LordCovenant

I tried the normal (with sound) version in the no sound fix, and it worked and played sound too. The game isn't really a game yet, but the building thing already feels good; it just seems so cool to be falling, shoot down, and catch yourself with a platform. Same for destroying platforms. I can just see a whole cube filled with tunnels and bridges of platforms and then just blasting through it. Sadly, there is no future potentional category, so I had to rate down on most...

Almost as funny as typing in all caps.
