LD2 — Construction/Destruction

Hitsuji: Shears Of Fury by Jamul

This is an AWESOME execution ... major polish, good art, has sounds (fitting, but no music and not much really interesting stuff there) ... even if this weren't a 48 hour production I'd like it.
Doesn't use construction as a gameplay theme -- only a cosmetic! -- and the concept is not great especially considering that. But it's still very fun to play with, and in keeping with the polish has a rather large play-value considering the dev-time (I probably spent more time messing with this game than any of the one's of seen so far).
Experienced no bugs during playtime, which doesn't mean there weren't any but is still a good indication that the technical side of this was also well attended. The game performs no genius technical feats, but is not childs-play in that respect either, and definitely gets my respect for what it does.

Run Away Sheep by matricks

Nice graphics, but very very few of them (1 animation, 1 box, 1 block, 1 background).

Gameplay is generic (a box stacker game) but implemented well enough, the game is still kinda fun.

Construction them is not really there - focus of the game is not on constructing things - but the gameplay more resembles construction than most of them so it gets some props there ... but then there's no destruction!

Sound is good, I think, with music written specifically for the game, but then there are only two sounds total, so it's not quite a five.

Technical -- no major bugs, solid animation code, but nothing too impressive here. Why can I walk on the corners of boxes? Why do boxes fall slower than sheep? Why doesn't the escape key (documented in opening help screen) work?

Cosmetic theme ... it's there! Sheep as a main character. Again this is fine but dull ...

This is a complete, finished product, something to be proud of, definitely!

LD4 — Infection

Commies! by randomnine

An excellent entry on all fronts.

War on Infection by tareco

A good start, and playable, but lacks polish in gameplay and seems to have been a bit too much to do properly in a 48h. Gameplay sorta fits the spreading / infection theme in that one must acquire bases to win, but it's a bit weak.

Infected! by Krzysiek-K

A solid entry -- could have used some gameplay fixes / changes, but good overall.

Invasion of the Blobs by logicalhippo

Some fatal bugs bring it down, but it's a cool game none-the-less. Very nice concept. I wish recharging would go a bit faster -- it seems it could do so without changing gameplay significantly, and it's boring to wait for a recharge.

OSWar by summaky

An old game done with a very painful interface, in which the mouse doesn't properly correspond to the selected rod, and the computers obscure the display. Starting grid is large enough that it seems most of the game is just looking for squares that only have one or fewer walls, a process made painful by the layout. Menu system is hackish, but that's understandable for a 48hr. Graphically it's not horrible.

Gooploid by Gnatinator

It's well done but ... far too slow to be interesting, and not particularly cool conceptually. A speedup such that most of the time in not spent waiting for something to click, and it would be a small pleasure.

infeXion by bluescreen

Great art, solid implementation of a classic concept. Particle effects and transparencies rule.

Zombiepox by peitz

Zombies get stuck on walls, thus removing most actual play value to the game, but the great art, fresh concept, and relative polish pull it through. The sounds can get rather annoying ...

Mucus Infection by Thenend

Well, it's a finished, playable game.

Zombie Death (FINISHED) by wisebede

Game overall was just ... not very fun. I couldn't get past level 3, the civilians were unreasonably dumb, perhaps I just suck but it seemed the learning curve was not right. Sounds were annoying. Graphics were ... not particularly interesting. Concept seems rather standard. Does fit the theme, which is nice.

Shrooms! by zoggles

It's a solid production, great art, a new concept ... but it's boring, horribly so. The idea just didn't work out. Maybe if it played faster, but even then it's a bit too random to be interesting to me.

Cuzco's Goat Bloat Game by philhassey

Seemed the game crashed the first time I died and entered a highscore, but I could not replicate that. Very fun, fresh game; a great twist on the theme, funny sound effects, etc. I sucked at the game, but it still entertained me ...

The Trouble with Tribbles by Gopher

Interesting concept, decent art (animation would have been nice), but the gameplay just isn't fun. Bogged down by some bugs as well.

Microbattle by dumple

Not sure how it related to the theme (I mean ... aside from the text that claims the triangles are virii...), but it's a cool gameplay concept with a solid implementation, and it's good fun, and the sound effects are way cool (I dunno, there's something special about the 'eating' sound; it hits the spot) ... so ... good work! Integration of help and game is cool, a nice touch.

Tekram-S (v1.1) by Sol_HSA

A bit dull conceptually, but something I've never seen before and surprisingly fun to play, so I'd call that a success. Feels nice and polished; a solid gui / design for such a short time. Good job :)
