LD4 — Infection

Commies! by randomnine

Cannon fodder in 48 hours. Woohoo! Nicely presented. The commies don't spread very quickly so I didn't get the idea of having to protect the civvies. And a more powerful gun would be nice. But all in all a very nice game. And I liked the emoticon speech bubbles.

War on Infection by tareco

This is a brave idea: Advance Wars in 48 hours. Or at least the basic framework. There needs to be a lot more work on it yet, not including the AI. Like being able to select which unit to move. Its not obvious what is going on originally. But its a brave thing to do anyway.

The Destruction of the Viruses by Jolle

It looks nice at first glance with nice presentation. Unfortunately the game beyond that isn't very inspiring. The viruses don't put up much of a fight back, and even if you get a move one then once the viruses have got a foothold, wiping them out with the lower powered weapon is a chore. Even the sound is a muted whimper. It could be great with a bit more time and work. Just not enough challenge for now.

Mucus Infection by Thenend

Theres not much here. Not much graphics and much sign of any infection theme. There needs to be far more gameplay ideas. More infection types etc.

Pathogen Warrior by tonic

A very proffesionally produced puzzle game. Quite addictive early on but once there were around 8 compounds, I found it difficult to match the matts colours on the board with the rotating shiny model colours. No sound but nice music. Although the idea was about matching chemicals, anything about infection after that was missing. A solid entry.

Zombie Epidemic by Ufo Z

Now this is pretty. A mini grand theft auto. The 3D city looks very nice, though its a shame that the figures and car too don't appear in 3D. Control of the car is very difficult with a big invisible buffy around buildings, and once you get out then you don't seem to be able to move away. Possibly the city is too big. Running from one end to the other can be a drag, though once you enter a 'target rich environment' gunning down an alley full of zombies is very satisfying. I suspect the author mimed the sound effect himself. All credit to him.

Peanut Butter: The Simulator by Zaphos

I didn't making the connection between infection and peanut butter until I understood the spreading link. Ah-ha. Very droll. The game after that is pretty much a one-stop joke, more suited to a flash website than a windows app. Not much of a game in here and no sound, though the presentation is OK.

Antibody by TwinnedArak

A nice idea, though eventually I was lumbered with an antibody that I didn't know what to do with. It would certainly have been better with a timer. Presentation could have been jazzed up a bit. There will be a better puzzle game behind it with a bit more work.

Infection Wars by tsmaster

Impressive amount of work considering the several maps and the multiplayer element. Unfortunately the AI isn't much cop so unless you have friends to sit round your computer with you then you are sunk. Quite imaginative though very samey once you have a foothold on the map. The bonus weapons would make things more interesting if only the computer would fight back. Graphics and sound are adequate, though the presentation is nice. No uninstall option!

Shrooms! by zoggles

A nicely presented puzzle game. Its unusual to see a game that has concentrated on the idea of 'spreading' rather than 'infection'. No sound and the early games are slow. Is there some way of seeing how may rats are left and how many have been poisoned? An option to speed the game up would be useful as well.

Zombies by MattD

I like zombie splatter fests. See my own entry :) But the detail on this is far too low. The gun is puny so the graphics don't count for much. And the sound is a bit low. And I get the strange custard effect every time. But is is fun for a few minutes.

The Lobby by Spectro

I'm always up for a zombie splatter fest, but this is far too much hard work. Each zombie takes far too much to deal with. Its a nice touch that you have companions with you but they die too readily. Graphics are a bit dull and washed out. I've not heard of Fenix before, I'll look into it. My highest score was 7990. :)

Gonorrhoids! by sinsolent

Gosh this gave you a lot to control. I actually found keeping the ship in the air and shooting at the same time very taxing for my little mind. There was no need to fly left or right, but that would be far too much in this case. The sound and graphics are adequate. A bit more variety wouldn't go amiss (Whilst making the ship easier to control. Lower gravity/ more solid shock absorbers?). The explosions are very satisfying (If you have a chance to look at them!).

Anti-Botic by tomkh

As a techical exercise it is quite something with a nice complicated background. As a game it is a bit lacking. Control of the pill is difficult and once an infection takes place control becomes even more difficult as site is lost of the pill and its not obvious which are virus cells and which are anti-cells. But it certainly looks pretty whilst the mayhem is going on.
