You had a really fun idea! I also love the visuals, good job! The icons for "mystic things" and "disgusting" are a little to close shape-language-wise so I sometimes mistook one for the other
@pandaray Thanks for playing! Yeah, in hindsight, I should have also color-coded these icons.
I really love the items and find the game play rewarding matching up the fears to the items. However it was maybe a lil to easy? I think reducing the amount of health the player has might make it a little more strategic forcing you to buy breakfast more than once.
I really liked the gameplay. Super fun. I wished i could have checked the items i had while in the shop
@jamesxm Thanks for playing! I kind of made it too easy on purpose. 😂 My goal was to make it so anyone can beat it in 5 to 15 minutes and see all the content to make a fair rating.
Great entry! Really liked all the item descriptions! I played it to the end with ruth and bart. My favorite were the sticky items and one time i managed 50 damage :O Sad that i didn't get to use the pad hah, since the last bully was a women. Is there a way to use it? Oh and great art and soundtrack too!
@recyx Thanks a lot for playing! No, it's impossible to use it, it's just a joke and a newbie trap.
I see the late game potential of a 3-slot guy, but with that small amount of money you have to know what you're doing xD With a rich guy I can cosplay "random bullshit go!" meme and still be find (have to buy all dizzying items though!) It looks like the balance is pretty decent, but I am not sure about the mixed-damage items as they're mostly around 2/3 of efficiency for the full price.
It was a bit hard to manage the items as I tend to forget how many vomity and scary-scary stuff I have in my inventory, etc.
Some sticky items tend to be outclassed later, so it's another newbie trap :D Unless you're playing with a 3-slot guy. He can probably utilize both sticky 2+3 items.
@quasilyte Wow thanks for detailed analysis of game balance! 😁 Yeah, adding a button to view items you already have while shopping was in the back of my head, if there was another day of dev I would add it...
How about a hacky cheap and dirty way? Add a counter near the damage type of the item inside the tooltip. Like:
☠️☠️ (have 2)
10 minutes of coding :D Very ldjam-style
Btw, my game has the same issue. But I haven't thought of it in time.
@quasilyte Now that's actually a smart idea! Thanks a lot! Even though it's late to change things, it could help me in the next jam.
All the items gives different effects, there is a great potential, it could be addictive. I also like the interface and the music (and the theme, obviously).
Loved the mood and the super detailed assets, the music also fits perfectly. Nice!
it's an interesting idea, but the system is a bit confusing (lacking a tutor), and the art is quite funny
YOU ATE BRO! Really funny and interesting to play💜⭐💜
Прошёл игру со второго раза, думал что понял правила умножения, но в какой-то момент игра посчитала иначе)
Стиль проекта шикарен - юмор, арт, геймплей, мне очень понравилось
I beat the game on my second try. I thought I understood the multiplication rules, but at some point the game calculated it differently.
The style of the project is amazing – humor, art, gameplay – I really enjoyed it.
@artalasky Thanks a lot for playing! Yeah, the score counting rules aren't explained properly, I could have done a much better job doing it, for example displaying actions one by one, kind of like Balatro does it.
@woona Most of the game was spent multiplying the value of one item by another (+ the phobia bonus).
I placed two items on 2 skulls and 3 abominations, expecting 6 damage (the bully didn't have a phobia of skulls or abominations, but he wasn't indifferent to them either).
But the damage dealt was 5, not 6, and the bully survived :)
I tried playing as the Major for the second time, and I think it's the easiest difficulty level.
The Trickster has 3 slots, and if the bully only has 2 HP left, I still have to spend 3 items per turn. This is really painful. And he gets less money, so he can't buy new ones. It only makes sense to buy STICKY items.
It was also fun to deal massive damage to the final boss (-32 HP) by combining a tarantula and a firecracker.
If you continue this game, I think it'll be fun to create combos (putting two required items together will give a new effect or change the damage multiplier).
Unique turn based game! feels more like card battle game to me but instead of cards, you're using collected items. I had to do trial n errors until I figured out how to play this game. Managed to win couple fights. My only suggestion is to show your currently own items while shopping to prevent buying similar items.
I like the inclusion of bonus effects like Sticky and Dizzying. Saved my butt after a couple misplays. I ended up getting the Pad but didn't get a chance to use it. I love the pithy item descriptions and enjoyed putting sets together for maximum damage. No notes. Well done.
@artalasky
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions!
Here's a calculation example just to clarify things:
item 1: ☠️☠️☠️☠️ + 🪲🪲🪲🪲
item 2: ☠️☠️☠️ + 👻👻👻
item 3: 👻👻👻👻
and let's say enemy fears ☠️ and ignores 🪲
Result would be: (☠️☠️☠️☠️ x ☠️☠️☠️ x 2) + (👻👻👻 x 👻👻👻👻) + (🪲🪲🪲🪲 x 0)
so 4 x 3 x 2 + 3 x 4 + 4 x 0 = 36
Again, the UI doesn't do the best job of showing this, and I didn't really want to write a wall of text explaining all the math in-game...
@bloodbane Thanks for playing and for your feedback. Yeah, the game was heavily inspired by card games. 😁
Game is fun and looks polished. Variety of characters adds depth. Most fun part for me was not just winning the battles but multiplying fear stats as possible I can so I one shot them. I agree on other comments about displaying items and their stats between fights so I can buy properly. I can eat breakfast even though I have < 3 dollars. Graphics were just on point. Sounds suits well. Having different item features like sticky or dizzying is great to rely on them and buy more agressively. UI during the combat is also satisfying. I tried on the web btw.
I think you have a good combat system here. It's simple yet effective. I think you should make a full game around it.
@yarkin Thanks a lot for your feedback! I'll definitely consider expanding the game a bit now that the jam is over. 🙂
One of funniest point and click games. It is hard to understand what happen in game by damage calculations but i find out that if i combining same times they make more damage so tried to do this.
Great concept! Game is fun, humorous, and has an engaging game loop. Some of the mechanics can be more developed or changed, and some items are obviously more overpowered than others. I would've liked if there were some more room to strategize for any given run. Nevertheless, very solid game with a unique interpretation of the theme!
Nice game! The UI is simple and easy to understand. However, it takes me a bit of effort to figure out how to maximize the damage -- may be more guidance here? Finally I understand the game from others comments :D Still the features are interesting, and looking forward to see the game expand further. Also, I absolutely love the art style!!!
Love the game and the concept. The humor is great it did take me a bit to work out how the damage worked but once i worked it out it was quite fun.
Awesome take on the theme! I really liked everything — the music, the humor, the visuals, and the mechanics :smirk:. Would love to see more item combinations and synergies. Great work!
I liked the idea, the fights are simple but interesting, the sounds are cool too.
I really like tghe idea, found it a little bit overwhelming at first, there should be a way to spend money to see at least one trait of the next bully IMO. Great entry!
I would have liked a way to view my current inventory when buying things and a faster way to identify the value of each item other than mouseover. That said, this is fantastic. It's such an interesting idea and you convey a lot of story with a little dialog. Really, really good job.
the theme is really good! also thinking of ways to pair things together is interesting, also i love your art style
good idea! music could be better and it's not very convenient that you can't see your inventory, but good job
This was a really neat experience! I thought it would become a bit tedious but I actually really liked it all the way through! The novelty of gathering new items along with trying to strategize what to buy worked really well!
I think one thing I wouldve really liked to see would be the ability to look at your current items while browsing the shop so you dont have to remember what you already have.
Great entry!
I've probably played a bit too many match the type games and they kinda seem to meld together. The art style and idea stood out enough to differentiate itself but under the hood it is mostly similar. Well done on sticking out in some way.
Gameplay is fun, there’s a really big collection of items, and the art looks great.
I really like your idea, well done!
Cool game with simple yet interesting mechanics. Colored types would be better but still awesome
The game is achieved in an unique way. I have never see this type of game.
Cool game! I like having multiple playable characters, it adds a bit of replayability. Good job!
Haha, so cool, fun little game and the combination of the matching mechanics with all these gross items is really creative and novel. Graphics style tollay fits and I personally think its ok that you do not see the inventory, is part of the difficulty. :smirk:
In awe of the amount of different items! Fun little battler!
I enjoyed the flavor text and dialogue a lot, too!
:sunglasses:
All the bullies have stopped going to school, haha! Quinn was my protagonist pick, I needed the money advantage, and the 26c rich kid pocket money saved me throughout the run. Leo was really the star of the show too, I laughed every time he introduced himself during the shop screen. The item descriptions and variety were hilarious too, I love the flavor texts on them.
Was super fun to play through the game, I thought it was balanced really well, where it wasn't too easy or too hard. I was hovering at around one heart after each round due to a mishap with one of the earlier bullies, I was super focused the whole way through to not let anybody get an additional hit in. Sound effects and art work well too here, I especially like the art for all the items and the sound effects playing when the bully is attacked with the various multiplications and resistances. Very cool game, great job!
Really great, lovely (errr gross but lovely) game. Respect.
yay, stopped all the bullies! very fun idea & setting, enjoyed playing it =) also loved the item with "9999 against male" :joy: (never got to try it unfortunately)
Impressive amount of content; all the item sprites, descriptions, characters etc. I saw you already explained it in the comments, but I was wondering about the calculations during the game, and I wish I could just show one item, without the need to fill all three slots, especially when the bully had only like 1 hp left.
Also I had a bit of a problem with recognizing icons at first glance. Some of them were very similar to each other and had to look over tooltips constantly, but at least you had tooltips! That doesn't happen often :)
Overall very well done :heartbeat:
@haayaargh Thanks for your feedback! You're right, when I was making the game, I thought that having to use all the available slots every turn somehow added more strategic depth to it. But now I realize that it's more of an annoyance and this limitation doesn't make the game any better.
Really well done! I played way too long  I love how the correct combinations will deal massive damage. The graphics and music really fit together and the gameplay itself is just delightful. I like how there is even a character selector, like in old arcade-style games.
You have a huge variety of different items with some awesome descriptions also. I think that is impressive for and LD gamejam game.
