Really like the simple graphics and sound/music. Fits nicely together and had fun playing it ^^

It was fun to play! Altough the controls were maybe a bit slippery on the keyboard, but maybe that was the point?
Enjoyable little game! Very simple and understandable, though, it did take me a couple lives to figure out dodging the explosions and also the movement being floaty as I run toward enemies and spikes.
cute, easy
i really like the the audio and design in general it's simple and we understand immediatly what to do . Not difficult at all in the first part , i guess it serves as a tutorial for the second part which reveal all the potential of the game with a timer it's immediatly more difficult , i died many time before finishing the game .
the savestate is really appreciable .
Good job! Fun little tower, certainly fits the theme. Slippery controls, feels like the color palette was telling me the tower was made of ice. Good work for the time given, keep it up.
Ayy, that hype finale with the tower escape! Very cool, that was super tense! Want to thank you for the checkpoint on top of the tower though, I flunked my first run down (forgot to blink in, like, the third tutorial room), so that checkpoint was a godsend.
Really love the gameplay of this, building it around the blink mechanic worked pretty well I think. Mixing up the different obstacles like spikes, bombs and enemies kept the gameplay being fresh all the way to the top. Art was cute I think, I think it lent itself well to this type of gameplay. Same with the sound effects and the music, it all fit together very well. Great job all around!
So good that I've played it all the way through...twice! Really great work. I do wish there was some sort of ending for the second "phase" that wasn't just "the game is over" though.
Cool little game, music/art fits great. Good job on level design and enemy movement, didn't notice how quickly time passed till I finished the game
now this game screams modern retro game and I love it, it genuinely reminds me of a C64 game or some other ancient pc game, it's simple, fun, and genuinely a nice little game!
Really cool game - played through to the end.. at least I thought I had. I also thought it was pretty easy. Then the second half slapped me around a bunch - it was a great surprise. Managed to get through it.
Great music, appropriate sound effects and cool graphics. Controls felt pretty tight. Whole thing felt like the best version of a NES game.
Very neat, the music is great!
Hi, great game! The blink mechanic is interesting idea. It has good gameplay and music. I really appreciate that you made it from scratch in C++.

@pawel12 Thanks for the feedback, I hope you didn't close the game right away when you saw that screen though :p
Great little game :) Especially the second part took me a few tries. And thank you big time for only setting me back to the top!
Well done! I think the game is won once you escape off the screen outside.
Pretty solid game! Not sure I'm a huge fan of the bomb mechanic since you just have to wait them out but other than that it was quite fun.
A very polished compo game. Took a little bit to figure out the bomb timing. Great use of the theme.
Really cute! I like the many uses of the dodge for spikes, combat, and bombs. Nice reuse of a mechanic. My favourite level was the one where you have to fight an enemy at the same time as a bomb is going off which posed an interesting challenge!
Nice use of the theme! Controls felt a bit fast for me and I kept hitting spikes/enemies but gameplay is fun!
I agree with the other commenters that the movement felt a bit fast but the game is definitely fun nonetheless! Managing to pass the higher floors feels great and the music is a good fit.
Short and sweet, I liked how the different mechanics combine and they work well with the limited space of each floor. The movement was too fast for me on a 120Hz monitor but was fine on 60Hz. I also closed the game once I reached the top and had to come back when I read the other comments!
Really enjoyed this, you mixed it up and kept it fresh throughout. Was sad when it was over, good work.
The teaching guidance of the game mechanism is quite outstanding and worth learning from.
The retro graphics of the game are also very good. Music and sound effects have played a great role.
But the player's movement speed is too fast and inertia is difficult to control, making it easy to reach the spike.
I liked it! immediately regretted picking up the hearts I didn't need :(
That was a cute little game. I almost quit the window before the twist at the end. Barely made it out of the tower in the last second.
Extremely good compo game. Fit the theme really well with how cramped the it felt.
Negatives would be that the bomb levels all kind of felt the same, except the ones where you had to fight enemies as well. I also made the game crash: 2023-10-07 13_21_03-Tiny Tower.png
This happened at the end when I ran out of the tower, I just kept running and ran straight off the bottom of the initial screen. Pushing okay on the error gives me this screen: 2023-10-07 13_21_14-Tiny Tower.png
I'm counting it as I found the hidden bonus level, haha. Those are very minor things though and I still really liked this one!
Hello. First thing about your description: I think for most people, "download" means the same thing than "install" (opposed to "playable in browser"). So you can juste write "Download and run the .exe".
I like the ASCII in the "readme.txt". It's so superfluous but you did it anyway.
I was taken aback by how big the window was, and the pixels look huge. For a game named "Tiny tower", I expected a small window.
Also, beware of how the "faux-pixel" does not fit the grid. While moving, it's normal, but for example when we start we can see how the big pixelated hears are not "pixelly" aligned with the top of the ground floor. The most visible example is the cool-down bar obviously not pixellated.
About the colours, I was disturbed by how the palette of the character was a traditional grey for iron and red for fabric, whereas the rest is more of a stylised two-colours (blue for everything, red for danger...). Well, the bomb also breaks this dichotomy, and the orange explosion was yet another colour.
When you don't understand the bomb mechanism, you quickly die and assume "oh no, will I ever finish?". But after, I found them easy. Were there meant to explode at different time to add tension? But then I understand you can destroy them, which is indispensable to make the return. I had the most trouble with the blobs, since it's hard to hit things within the strict 4-directions.
It looked surprisingly short to me, so the return part was a good surprise. However, as cool are anti-frustration save points, I feel like you were too nice: it's short enough to afford a little "well, you have to retry from the begininnig" (like the hearts, I thought you could only refill a unit, not the entire bar). I write that even if I died a lot, but on the other hand I think the time spend would be equivalent since while going up we learn to better grasp the mechanisms.
The return is really stressful, good job, but it would have been good to stop the stressful moment when you go out, instead of "Game over" (is it because I didn't go out fast enough? The first time my window got closed).
Incredible game! I'm astounded that you made this in just 48 hours using C++! I had a blast playing it. Admittedly, I did struggle at times, but the sheer enjoyment I derived from the game compelled me to press on—and not many games manage to achieve that. The artwork is stellar. Personally, I would've liked a tad more detail, but that's just my preference. The use of color is outstanding, and the ability to craft characters with so few pixels is remarkable. The level design and especially the narrative are commendable. I love the twist where just when you think it's over, you have to escape. Regarding the end, when I escape the castle, the game shuts down. Have I completed it, or is that a bug? Anyway, I just wanted to extend my congratulations on such an outstanding game.
@milq Thank you for your kind words :) This is the normal ending, the game just shuts down when you're done, I didn't have time to program a real ending haha
I love this minimalist concept. It fit the theme perfectly. The pixelart is amazing. Well lisible with so few pixels. The LD progression with the explanation is very effective and I like the blink idea. I didn't understand at first that we had to destroy the bombs with x like the enemies. You did a great job for 48h Compo Game.
