A nice simple colony simulation, although it took me a while to realize that I needed to click on the landing pad (the raised platform) to get any new colonists. I was expecting them to start arriving automatically once I had housing.

Lots of clicks are needed - automatic assignment to free jobs and the ability to place multiple copies of the same type of building in quick succession would make an attempt at filling the screen easier.

lcstark 2023-10-02 17:31

@tesseract Thanks! I was going to make a quick tutorial at the start of the game, but ran out of time. Perhaps I should have added some sort of notification to the landing pad when you build the first house.

I didn't do automatic job assignment because I wanted the player to have full control on what resources are used - I didn't want new colonists to get automatically assigned to wood farms the player might have prepared for later and use all the water, causing food shortages. Perhaps I should have instead found a workaround, like assigning them to pumps first or giving the player the ability to disable a building so it's not auto-assigned. I'll think about it in the post-jam version.

And as for multiple copies, that is an oversight on my part, I'm going to implement it now for the post-jam version (as I think it should be a quick fix).

I really enjoyed this. I think the level of polish is very high. The gameplay is a bit basic, one thing I would like to see is tile adjacency mattering. Right now it doesn't how you place anything (to my knowledge). Great job on the jam :)

i got very sucked into this game, i really like watching the numbers go up. Would love to see this with more buildings as a sort of idle colony building game like civ and stellaris but without having to think too much. Felt that the balance was a little off with the hydroponics taking up a bit too much water so that the ratio of pumps to hydros was very skewed so that almost half my map was pumps in order to make enough food. that really is my only complaint. amazing submission great job

victor-perotto-pioner 2023-10-03 02:40

simply AMAZING!! I could play for hours in a row just to see the numbers rising, I was a little confused at first about what to call the humans, but when I saw it I had already spent almost an hour playing without stopping!! Ps. (I love a hex-map game too)

bisnesspirate 2023-10-03 08:22

Quite fun to see your world grow and being able to build more land as well. Biggest issue I had was not realizing I had to click the landing pad to get my first colonists and I even restarted the game once to see if it was bugged or not.

roboimuri 2023-10-03 15:49

Nice game! Maybe add a window where you can see graphs on the progress of resource gathering and usage?

stmate03 2023-10-03 20:02

A fun little colony sim! it could become such a huge and nice game with some extra additions, I like it!

enreh 2023-10-03 20:19

So satisfying to play! Maybe some numbers could be tweaked in order to make it more interesting (it's very hard to spend more stone than you produce), but that's nitpicking, as it does a great job at being a comfy colony simulator. Also, faster access to the building buttons could be nice, or at least being able to place multiple of the same building without having to select it again (again though, that's kinda nitpicking caused by the endgame I went for). I thought of going for aesthetics, but ended up with the goal of reaching the highest sustainable population that I could. Fantastic job! Captura de Tela (28).png

lcstark 2023-10-03 20:29

@enreh Holy crap! That's a lot of buildings! :D It makes me feel kinda glad I left camera movement and a larger map for later and didn't manage to put it in the compo build :P

Production numbers are definitely unbalanced. I screwed up production code, so as a quick fix I had to make it so every building produces 1 unit of resource per job and all I could do within the compo time was to manipulate production time, so it ended up how it is now. That's probably the next thing I'm gonna work on.

In hindsight, I should have definitely added key bindings for buildings, as well as the multi-construction. I've already added building with Shift key in the post-compo build, I guess key bindings are next. :)

Thanks for playing for son long and for the feedback!

pinkemma 2023-10-04 09:38

Great little game!

I wish there was a way to see if a building is active, and maybe how occupied it is.

Very chill, easy to sit and just thinker for ever1

dzejpi 2023-10-05 05:33

Not sure if there is anything more I can say that hasn't already been said, but I really loved the presentation, hexagonal grid, how it looks and it feels very cosy to play. Apart from taking me a little while to figure out that I had to requests for the colonists, the game was easy to figure out. Got me sucked in for a while, because it's really satisfying to watch numbers grow!

geekarious-tony 2023-10-06 01:58

This was a really cool sim! Love the graphics!

cheesepencil 2023-10-06 03:14

It's got a cool look! I never figured out a winning strategy, but it was cool to place the pieces around.

apg 2023-10-06 12:23

It's a very smooth little game! I didn't appreciate until after I had played that it was an ocean planet, and now it makes total sense why the pumps can't be placed on land.

silkworm-sweatshop 2023-10-06 18:41

Spent quite a while playing this. Can definitely see this expanded and I see you've kept working on it  although I only played the jam version. Some juicy sound and vfx for stuff like placing buildings would make it even more satisfying. Not sure if there is a way to delete buildings but that might be an idea in case you want to reorganized later down the line.

godsboss 2023-10-07 06:46

Seems interesting, would be nice to see this polished into a more complex game. Currently a few things are missing, in my opinion:

- There's no way to see which buildings are occupied with workers and which aren't. - While it's possible to take workers off a building, I did not see the need. With one exception: If there's no more space left on the map, you don't need wood anymore. - An overview of how many resources are produced/consumed (and the net result per time). I can see the numbers go up or down, but with this kind of game it would be nice to have that information.

Overall I had fun with this game and I see the potential. Don't abandon this!

endurion 2023-10-07 06:56

Very sophisticated and polished! What really needs to stand out is which buildings are occupated/worked in how much. Also, lots of little animations to make it feel alive.

The music is giving a nice relaxing vibe, perfect for this kind of game. Well done!

lakea 2023-10-08 08:04

what a great entry, would love to see this developed further, the artstyle is so simple yet works perfectly

harmadillo 2023-10-08 11:40

Nice look with the minimalist tiles. Has a nice "one more building" feel to the construction.

noya 2023-10-09 09:46

I love the art style, shapes, colors and UI! 😊 Sound effects and music were nice, just a couple of seconds more for the background track would help it from becoming repetitive. The game is very addictive, I played until I could cover about half the screen with tiles. I appreciate that you added resource chains, and it was fun to balance water / food / wood production. I think a great improvement would be if predicting resource production was more challenging, e.g. the position of a water pump could determine how much it produces based on free adjacent water tiles, or random events like a drought or fire which would use a large amount of water one-time. The UI was clear and easy to use, in the later game I would find a little info about how many resources you produce / consume per cycle very helpful. All in all impressive entry! 💜

PS: Did you see the entry of @seam00se ? Has some similarities and I think you both could take some inspiration from each other!

lcstark 2023-10-09 12:16

@noya Thanks! I've seen seam00se's game somewhere before and added it to my to-play list, perhaps I should put it higher up. I'll check it and your game later today. :)

limited space.png

Limited space? Where???

lcstark 2023-10-10 07:25

@untitled-studios Haha. :D My idea for this theme was that you land on a small archipelago in a huge ocean, and the "Limited Space" is the amount of space you have to work with at the start. It was always supposed to be a soft limit, one you could expand using large amount of resources. Though technically there's also the hard limit of space, since in this version it is limited to one screen only. :]

renrok 2023-10-10 12:49

Nice chill game! Love the visual style, simple and clean. As some previous commenters said, it would be cool to add adjacency mattering, so building placement would be more of a puzzle. Right now nothing really stops you from building other than lack of resources, and if you have the necessary productions whether you can afford something is just a matter of time.

Glad we could help with the build selector!

moondweller 2023-10-10 16:51

I've prepared a cup of tea when saw such long-read game description :D

What a pity that there is no any goals in this game!

I'm not sure if I guessed correctly but stone resource seems to be mined by houses, right? If yes, why there is no separate building for that like in case of wood? Imho, such building should make resource management a bit more interesting task for a player.

Overall I'd like to see a bigger version of this addictive game with maybe more buildings or complex rules :)

sarenei 2023-10-11 16:46

Had to read the comments to see that you request colonists from the initial building. Once I got that down it was a nice little game. It could definitely use some animation or gameplay feedback other than the UI, and like others have said it could use a goal.

Solid entry nonetheless!

locke8 2023-10-12 18:33

Very solid game, its biggest flaw is that its perhaps too simplistic, a few more buildings would of made it much more interesting, but a game's biggest flaw being a lack of additional content is often a compliment more than anything.

Screenshot 2023-10-12 202017.png

It was rather relaxing and i enjoy that you could balance things out precisely if you wanted to.

hare-software 2023-10-17 13:29

Really like this entry, these are always the types of games I hope for. Although the game has quite a few variables to keep track off, I did not find the game hard to learn. Of course improvements could be made to make the game even more interesting, but from the comments I can tell you were going to do that already if time had allowed it. A very good entry in my opinion, well done!

zimny11 2023-10-19 21:01

Nice and relaxing! The art style is really clean and fits nicely together with GUI and music. Really well done. I wanted to suggest some QOL stuff, but I see from patch-notes you are already on it! So my suggestion would be: having even more type of building would be even more fun! Since there is already population and food, I guess next would be entertainment... maybe research facilities, where you can spent resources to upgrade buildings? Like 2 story houses? Also, maybe power plants? Anyway, great game, well done!
