Nice game you have there, i've really enjoyed!!
The only problem is that i can't always pull a col/row when some enemy on the conveyor is near (not in front, but near)
Seriously, consider make a full game to post on Newgrounds or Armor Games!

I've often considered making a match 3 game. I'm seldom happy with remaking something that entirely exists though, and its a genre that I feel has been mostly tapped. This is why it amazes me (in a good way) that you've found another way to do a match-3. That alone makes this game a success in my book. Graphically the main game is quite nice, although the main menu screen could use some work (but it is a gamejam so priorities ;) ). As far as music it tends to reach to high of a pitch for me, but that my just be a me thing.
TLDR: A very creative take on a well-established genre. Also a creative take on this ludum dare's theme. Great job!

I really appreciated the fresh take on a match 3 game as well as the the pixel graphics (honestly my favorite style). I did notice that there were some issues with pushing cols and rows and it wasn't always obvious what row would be pushed (a problem slightly aggravated by the conveyer belts). All in all it was a great game!
Nice take on match 3s. The conveyor belt game was a nice addition. I also found that I occasionally couldn't move a row when I expected. Well done.
This is very addictive and fun!
I love the gameplay and the new twist on the genre. The graphics work nicely together and you have some cute music though after a while it gets repetitive haha.
Great job on this entry, amazing work for the compo, definitely would be interested to see new levels. Well done!

Neat game! On my first try, I apparently missed the part about being able to move, which made it very challenging (and *possibly* a better game...). On my second try, once I realized how to kill monsters, there wasn't much challenge, I got to 133K points when I decided to quit.
The rules allow for fixing bugs after submission, so maybe fix the bug with the score not updating on gem pickup! I tired picking up gems, didn't see the score move, so figured it was just a no-op that didn't hurt me, as opposed to monsters, but would have probably played differently if I knew they gave points!
Like the visual style, and the music didn't get annoying =).
Pretty cool! I think it fits the theme well, and it's pretty fun! Can't say I've played a matching game like this before.

I see the dwarf game and I immediately in :) Cool take on the genre! Had fun playing.

Thanks for all of the feedback! I'm encouraged to expand this out into something more substantial and challenging.
@jonathanfdr @Thorn I haven't been able to replicate this, but I think a better indicator for which row you're trying to push would solve it.
@BradyG @CursedSoldier Apologies for the music, the instrument choice was a bit shrill in retrospect, but I ran out of time to make anything longer than a 20-second loop.
@jimbly Good point about the bug fix. It's certainly not a challenging game as is, but I think future releases can make the enemies a bit more menacing.
@zimny11 You and I think alike :)
Wow! What a fun game. I am super surprised that you were able to innovate on the Match-3 idea. It seems like that has already been done to death but you found a cool way to make it fun and interesting. The graphics were also really cool too. While simple, they did the job and I knew what everything was supposed to be. The music also wasn't annoying which was pretty cool too. Especially considering how frequently it looped, it fit the "thinking" style of the game quite well in my opinion. Great job here!

The pixel aesthetics work really nice for a match-3 like this, and the loop is a nice additional mechanic :)
Really creative take on a match-3 game! The conveyer belts add a whole new dimension to the puzzle. It would be cool to have more special object (eg. power ups that clear or slow down your belt ) if you do any post-jam development.

same as what sop-the-turtle said. when i first entered the game, omg no, not another candy crush kinda game. but you supriced me with a new twist to the three in a row game meta.

@perfectsquare Thanks for the feedback! Yes I agree, more special objects will help highlight the key tension of matching versus avoiding enemies. I aim to make the monsters varied and more challenging, which will require giving the player more tools via power-ups to fight back.

Cool, haven't been playing on match3 games on game jams for a long time. Here is successful integration match3 to looping theme!
Very liked the mechanics of pushing enemies to conveyer, so you need to be careful picking the row / column to push, and also destroying them by pushing the same kind of enemy.
There are some moments I would to improve: - switch push blocks key to other than F - because is near the WASD buttons it easy to mistake them - maybe need to outline current row / column that are to push?
Anyways, solid entry!

Very interesting concept, i see an evolution from the candy crash type of game. well executed, and the loop movements with possibility to control yourself to push it's a clever idea. Good game.
Interesting take on match 3 type games. Could definitely do with some indication of which row or column you will push as I often ended up pushing the wrong row or column which then caused issues.
It's really fun!
I thought that the mushrooms are a surprising game over, visually. Also, turning enemies into skeletons and then dying to the skeleton feels a bit strange. The game description on this page states that only diamonds are safe to touch, but ingame, I felt it was a bit unclear.
Maybe a way of destroying / manipulating objects once they are on the conveyor belt would be a great addition!
At any rate, I had fun playing this. Cheers!

@staircase27a Thanks for the feedback, I agree, an outline of which row you are currently targeting will be helpful, especially once the conveyor belt starts moving quickly.
@Battlerager Yes that's a good point, the mushrooms aren't visually clear that they are poisonous, especially when everything else is clearly a monster. I'm not sure what you mean by turning enemies into skeletons - they are just a basic enemy type. You can destroy objects on the conveyor belt by pushing a similar object from the puzzle into them. That said, I'm working on adding a more fully-fledged interaction system, where enemies have attacks and other behavior, while the player can use items and powerups found in the puzzle.
Thanks again everyone who played and left a comment!
Well done! I enjoyed this game for a good bit. Pushing the whole row was an interesting take on the match 3. Combine that with the enemy pushed off the conveyor becoming an obstacle made a nice challenge. Perhaps if you line up 3 on the conveyor you could kill them as well? Not sure...just an idea...that was the first thing I tried was to push 3 of the same type on to the conveyor.. :) Regardless...I had a good time. Here is my high score: ddscore.gif
Forgot to mention...thank you for putting a "quit" option in. Yours was the first download game that I didnt have to go to task manager to quit! LOL
@fronwewq oh, I thought by combining three enemies (goblin /orc), I had somehow "killed" them, and replaced them with skeletons. Guess they just got replaced with those randomly one time, and then I made that assumption and never really thought about it again.

Nice game that is a twist on old genre. Perhaps though some kind of indicator or feedback that you cannot push a row/column would be nice. Good job on the game!

ok let's just puzze for 5 mins ... 30 mins later ... played the 1.1. version, allowing to get rid of items&monsters from the belt allows you to play for as long as you want & make no mistakes.
Very nice game. Good job! :)
I liked the take on the theme! I wouldn't even be surprised if eventually this becomes a genre of match 3 mobile games, it works really well. For me I felt like there wasn't enough pressure to get points? Maybe this is just a personal taste thing, but I'd like a timer or a point goal or something along those lines.

It's an interesting adaptation of match3 kind of games. The idea of the loop around, and interactions with the character. Good idea that you can push them on the conveyor belt. The art is very strong pixel 8 bit, but characters are still nice. Good job. In my humble opinion, the problem is the control. I find it a bit flabby and many times ranges are not moving when I pushed with F. The puzzle part is a bit lost with this. With improvements on it, and lot more of reactivity, it could be a nice little game.

When you make a match, the enemies & diamond replacements is not clear. You should do it in two steps. First, remove the current enemies/diamonds and display empty tiles, then replace and display the new enemies & diamonds.
As many others said : I can not tell when you can push and when you can't. The game description only says : "F to push, when possible". So, there may be a reason why I can not push, but I don't see which.
I thought you were obliged to do a match on each push. But that's not it. You can push without match.
Overall idea is nice.

A nice little puzzle game you have created. I liked the pixel art graphics. I was happy you fixed the resolution for wide screens. 👌👍
As a suggestion, if you want to continue working on the game, you could let random items fell down on the conveyor belt that would change the attributes of the player (Become faster, slower, towards enemies indestructible). I believe the game would need some kind of pressure over time, like in Tetris. But overall you did a superb job!
Nice little puzzle, congratulations!
It is well executed and works well, but I think it is somewhat too slow and there is no reason for the player to do things fast, as it is always possible to just wait until you are in the right position. I believe it would also be nice to have some sort of progression, like new pieces, enemies that chase the player, faster conveyor belt, etc.
That aside, good job on creating a polished game on such a short time! :D
