LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Whack a Mole by Tero Pulkkinen 2020-10-04T23:50:20Z

I definitely didn't expect this kindof idea given the theme, so good innovationg in my opinion! The only thing that really caught me off guard was that I had no idea the moles would go so much faster vertically. Otherwise I like it!

Core Defense by JCMonkey 2020-10-05T03:03:10Z

I feel like the art, music, and design of the game itself go well together. As mentioned in a previous comment though, I feel like the background music could use a little more variation. I also saw someone say there was a steep learning curve, and I'd have to argue the other way. This game is insanely forgiving, there are so many layers for the enemies to get through that you can last a really long time even when performing poorly. The spawnrate of the enemies was good, I just feel like they could've moved faster or done more damage to your core. Overall, very well done!

Red Snow: The Thirteen Dwarves by undefinist 2020-10-05T03:08:52Z

This is a game I didn't know I wanted. Elfs huddled around a present avoiding [spoiler] and shooting [spoiler] is an amazing idea. That alone makes me love this game. Graphically quite nice, all I'd say is it could use some background music. Also it looks like if you go right at the beginning you can just go off into the middle of nowhere. Great job!

SpaceLoop by JackKm 2020-10-05T01:04:30Z

Most shooters reward spam pressing of any actual accuracy. Like a previous comment said, this is a nice solution to that as your misses become deathtraps. Everything laid out cleanly on the screen, gameplay was far (and where it wasn't it was my own fault). Excellently done!

Temporium by Untitled Studios 2020-10-05T00:48:00Z

I knew there was a great opportunity to have portal-esque humour in this game jam, I just didn't really know how to do it justice. I feel like you have. I'm also a sucker for a good difficulty curve, and I feel like the order in which you did had me learn mechanics was perfect. The main mechanic of these games isn't always the easiest to implement either, so well done all around!

Save Her by Lestat 2020-10-04T23:57:32Z

I'm not entirely sure what I was meant to do. I did manage to bring the child his baloon, so I imagine the rest are similar fetch-quests, although getting that one in particular took most of the time. Now that I write this out though, you never intended anyone to even have a chance of getting it on the first try did you? You wanted to ensure they had to use the loop ;)

Definitely not something I would've thought of, the mood and audio were good, graphics were simplistic but served there purpose. I'd call this one a success!

ME! vs the unrelenting alien invasion by Human Writes Code 2020-10-06T01:31:39Z

Bob is very disappointed in me. But I'm very impressed with you! Even with a tutorial the game would've been pretty dang fun. That tutorial just added so much character and when you're doing a simpler concept keeping your audience laughing helps a ton. Graphically not the fanciest, but it fits the overall theme well. Same goes for the music. Very well done!

School Bus Speed by spider__the second 2020-10-06T01:02:42Z

I like the simple graphics, and the game itself is fairly simple too. Despite this, It will likely be one of the few games I remember this jam simply do to a random countdown that leads the bus to explode for some reason (theme?). You made me laugh pretty hard, well done!

YOU MISSED MY STOP by Roolow 2020-10-05T00:09:08Z

At times it seemed a little weird using left/right to shift lanes (at certain positions around curves) but I'm not entirely sure you how'd adjust that (perhaps using left/right/up/down input as a direction,a nd shifting that way? You may have tested that but I'm unsure).

As far as an idea goes, its simple but executed fairly well! I don't say simple in a 'of poor quality' way, as sometimes the simplest ideas are the most fun. Great job!

unfriendly AI by Ekoxe 2020-10-06T01:15:38Z

I don't know if a memory of the different sorting algorithms would have helped me pick a more ideal strategy for this one but either way I enjoyed it. Definitely a lot of luck, but it never felt that punishing due to quick rounds. Also a very unique idea, so props there as well. Well done!

Rock Slide by FallingFlatStudios 2020-10-05T00:59:47Z

Incredibly polished, wonderful music as well as sprites. I especially loved the random villages falling from the sky randomly falling on me and dying (does this make me a bad person?). Side note, there is a spot where you can just perpetually roll against a wall and villages just run at you and die. Easy highscore ;)

Z-Loop by MoonRoll 2020-10-05T00:02:33Z

The -only- somewhat negative thing I have to say about the game is that there seems to be a large difficulty spike on the second-last level. Aside from that I love absolutely everything about this. The arcade machine is beautiful. The transitions are beautiful. The audio design is beautiful. Amazing work, keep it up!

The Maze! by mellow_cello 2020-10-05T03:17:50Z

Congrats on your first game! The graphics that you do have look pretty solid. Also I didn't find any game-breaking bugs (or bugs at all really), so well done! As a previous commenter mentioned there were some points where collisions were a little strange (but not broken). I also sometimes couldn't jump, usually when I was close to the edge of a platform (something to look into: coyote-timing). Overall nicely done!

Again by Reyansh 2020-10-05T00:19:37Z

May be an issue on my end, but says I'm missing a .dll. Does it require a Unity installation?

Cat Box Fall by zRepa 2020-10-05T23:57:56Z

Simple concept, clean execution. I like that the box seems to follow a reverse path back to where it was (small detail, but it adds so much character as opposed to just respawning). One small bug though, it seemed that I was unable to jump off of the grab-able crates. I'm not sure if intended, but it prevented me from solving a possible a way I initially thought possible. Overall, well done!

Tower of Time by CodeRaurus 2020-10-05T00:55:08Z

Usually overly floaty games don't play very well with some notable exceptions like flappy bird (and apparently this game!). It added some fun moments where I could slowly move in directions I didn't intend to but still have time to fix it. I feel like if the controls were tighter the game may be worse for it. Graphically simple, but still very nice. The only complaint I have is that if you die early you don't have an option to restart without refreshing the pages. Well done!

LineLoop by Squareworx Studio 2020-10-05T00:24:28Z

Don't let anyone criticize your graphics (although I doubt they will anyways). This simplistic look feels like the right choice for this type of game. The sound effects are well chosen, the BGM is a good fit.

The controls took a little getting use to. Initially I was going to suggest disable left/right when going vertically and up/down when going horizontally (as it felt weird). However I very quickly got use to using left/right regardless of direction and things went smoothly after that. Very well done!

Sadly the link appears to be down :(

Loop Drifter by Lvl3Mage 2020-10-06T00:02:42Z

After trying this my initial impression was that the learning curve was too steep. I've since read the other comments and it looks like that may just be that I'm bad at these types of games (which I never play, so take this criticism with a grain of salt). Everything that exists on the screen or in your headphones is there for a purpose. No unecessary clutter, everything is clear and concise which is the ideal situation for a game jam. Well done!

Hotel Mobi by TheCreator 2020-10-05T00:30:31Z

I was really looking forward to seeing some mobius strip shenanigans, and this is the first one I've seen. The movement is well implemented, the pacing is slower but that seems to go with the rest of the game feel. I would've had no idea how to make a game out of this particular idea, well done!

Slime Factory by HyperCubeGames 2020-10-04T23:51:08Z

I think the link is broken :(

In a Globe of Death by vcarlos 2020-10-05T00:16:02Z

Definitely an interesting idea! My only issue was that you have so much screen space and you use such a small amount of it. Perhaps adjusting the perspective to be inside the sphere in some way would be better utilize space (and perhaps make control a bit easier). Great job nonetheless!

Dwarven Delve by fronwewq 2020-10-05T03:26:02Z

I've often considered making a match 3 game. I'm seldom happy with remaking something that entirely exists though, and its a genre that I feel has been mostly tapped. This is why it amazes me (in a good way) that you've found another way to do a match-3. That alone makes this game a success in my book. Graphically the main game is quite nice, although the main menu screen could use some work (but it is a gamejam so priorities ;) ). As far as music it tends to reach to high of a pitch for me, but that my just be a me thing.

TLDR: A very creative take on a well-established genre. Also a creative take on this ludum dare's theme. Great job!

Strange Planet by tengusheath 2020-10-05T00:37:40Z

I loved this game. Simple (although as I've said on other reviews, not a down side). The first day or two allows you to get used to the controls before you start getting bombarded which is great. The difficulty is smooth. I love the graphics, all of them (even though there aren't a ton, it works). And hilariously just before the character starts getting bored and say something about it (no spoilers?) I audibly said 'okay here we go...' as a giant wave showed up. Excellently done!
