Fun game I am sorry I needed to disappoint bob so often, anyway even when i blew up the earth the aliens still got the blame.

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-05 11:55

nice game with an amazing and funny turoria. I also realy liked the menu

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 00:33

@aterlamia Unfortunately, nothing disappoints Bob quite as much as the destruction of the planet. Thanks for playing!

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 00:34

@pixelmoose-studio Thank you! And thanks for taking a look at my game.

alkarym 2020-10-06 01:28

Nice little game! I very liked the design and game play

guilherme-rampelotto-rodrigues 2020-10-06 01:28

Really nice game, love it! After lvl 31 Me finally saved the world, but unfortunately wasn't able to back to Earth

bradyg 2020-10-06 01:31

Bob is very disappointed in me. But I'm very impressed with you! Even with a tutorial the game would've been pretty dang fun. That tutorial just added so much character and when you're doing a simpler concept keeping your audience laughing helps a ton. Graphically not the fanciest, but it fits the overall theme well. Same goes for the music. Very well done!

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 03:44

@alkarym Thank you!

@guilherme-rampelotto-rodrigues Poor old Me. He was doomed to orbit forever from the very start!

@bradyg Thank you very much for the kind words. I really tried on the art but I am not an artist and I was learning as I went. I'm glad you liked it!

dxk2294 2020-10-06 07:47

Wow, this felt really polished. I love the sounds, the music, the opening tutorial, and of course the gameplay. It had a real "juicy" feel to it!

yellowsalamander 2020-10-06 07:51

The game looks really cool and the gameplay is unique and interesting! Overall a cool top-down shooter :3

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 08:13

@dxk2294 The fact that you said it felt "juicy" makes me very happy! That's definitely one of my big weak points as a hobby game dev!

@yellowsalamander Thanks for your feedback and thanks for playing!

dark-prince-zen 2020-10-06 08:15

Like the Aliens reference and the Ned Flanders vibe. I may have shot the moon deliberately before the prompt came up to defend said moon but it was all in good fun. Loved the dialog and and mechanics. Awesome work.

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 08:33

@dark-prince-zen Don't worry. I'm sure the moon had it coming. Thanks for playing!

alarianngames 2020-10-06 08:52

Really good game! I loved the humor, the music is cool, the art could be improved. But the game feel is great, I loved shooting down those aliens, and destroy the moon haha. "don't worry, there is no wind in space" XD

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 09:16

@alarianngames Thanks for playing! Yeah, I wish I had some kind of artistic ability haha...

mumaitron 2020-10-06 12:11

Fun game, interesting concept and good sense of humor. Also poor humans I accidentaly destroyed the moon before the first alien appeared ;)

swiftvector 2020-10-06 12:16

A lot of fun to play and very polished. And it's funny to boot. Bob is priceless.

I encountered this amusing little bug where halfway through the tutorial all the letters started printing out twice, so everyone sounded like they were talking rreeaallllyy sslloowwllyy.

kaisenthegreatone 2020-10-06 12:22

"Bob is very disapointed". Destroyed earth 20x just to erase Bob from every timeline possible. Now realtalk: Awesome Job. Love the Humor. The music kicks just right! I. Love. It!!!

fadrikalexander 2020-10-06 13:29

“Bob is very disapointed” That alians destroyed the earth LoL XD it was me all along stupid Bob XD nice game and I got stuck in a dialogue loop in the tutorial I don't know if that was intentional lol

rudrac 2020-10-06 13:36

The cool and fun game out of all games I played so far. Nice work. Tutorial seems to be clear and gameplay is fun and innovative.

duke 2020-10-06 14:21

Good entry! Runs smoothly and I like the the little banter between the the two people that acts as a tutorial. good job! The game play itself is pretty straight forward and basic / easy to understand. It can get very cluttered after playing for a minute though and I usually died because I blew up the earth and the moon by myself. The earth seems to be a very fragile planet :) The art style is a bit all over the place (from scaled pixel art to non-scaled pixel art?) but get's the work done. Music is rather chill! Fits the mood, I think. The SFX was a tad generic for my taste. A little more work in the sound design department could elevate the experience, I think. The theme was properly included (and even dropped by name), but will not win any innovation prices paired with the gameplay, to be honest. Still, a worth while experience!

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 14:28

@swiftvector Wow! That's a weird bug! Thanks for letting me know. TBF, the dialog system was pretty last minute work so I'm not surprised. Thanks for playing!

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 14:30

@mumaitron Hey. If you go your whole life without destroying a moon, have you really lived? Thanks for the feedback!

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 14:31

@kaisenthegreatone HAHA! Bob is like a cockroach. Somehow, he always survives. Thank you for the kind words! Glad you liked it.

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 14:34

@fadrikalexander Yeah, the dialogue loop was not intentional. That whole section of code is a nightmarish hellscape of event handlers and callbacks. I blame Bob.

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 14:34

@rudrac I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing.

human-writes-code 2020-10-06 14:36

@duke I agree with everything you said. Thanks for leaving such detailed feedback and thanks for taking the time to play the game!

pierrens 2020-10-06 15:07

Suuuper fun game ! :)

shaolin-dave 2020-10-07 04:49

Love the concept, and of course, the Aliens reference in the screenshot. Any chance of a Web or Mac build?

human-writes-code 2020-10-07 04:53

@shaolin-dave I am going to try and put together a WebGL build on the weekend. I'll tag you in another comment if I have any luck!

etrealjunior 2020-10-07 10:48

I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection

nimerya 2020-10-08 00:05

GG for this game, really nice concept. Well made. Loved the music and the humor ^^ Keep jaming!

atlantian 2020-10-08 09:15

Well done, even the text was stuck in a loop :)

eden-shazar 2020-10-08 09:22

Fun game! It's nicely polished for the time limit.

I really appreciate the dialog system! I don't know if you had some of it implemented in advance, but it has all of those nice-to-have features that make it feel that much more finished, like timed text and gibberish narration. The mechanics were enjoyable, if slightly clunky when one ship is barraging the planet, forcing you to keep your shield pointed to it, while giving you little time to peek and shoot it it. I'd also suggest a "toggle orbital direction" button rather than "left and right orbit buttons", as the directions could get confusing depending on your current location in orbit. Still, it has solid gameplay that's quite fleshed out for a jam :) I'm not sure if I finished or softlocked the game though: once I reached level 15 enemies stopped appearing

Good job, and thank you for making this!

human-writes-code 2020-10-08 10:24

@eden-shazar Thanks for playing. Yeah, the fact that enemies stopped spawning for you at level 15 is a bug. They should spawn indefinitely. I like the idea of just toggling orbital direction. Originally, I wanted to implement more "upgrades" than just the shield and also more weapon options than just the missile but never got to it. That would have, hopefully, helped with the problems caused by clunky mechanics (they are meant to be a bit clunky but not frustratingly so). As for the dialog system, I put that together in the final couple of hours of the jam. The code is barely hanging together for that  I'm glad I got it in there though because it makes the whole thing a lot better.

kr4ft3r 2020-10-08 12:31

Hey, sorry to be the one to report the glitch, but I ran the game (in 1920x1080) and can't click anything in the menu, so I can't start nor quit it.

human-writes-code 2020-10-08 12:36

@kr4ft3r That's weird. I made it for 1920 x 1080 so I'm not sure what's going on there. If I get a web build together this weekend, I'll let you know.

2020-10-09 00:24

Nice game, even though I kept on blowing up the earth. probably could use a volume control...seemed a bit loud.

human-writes-code 2020-10-09 01:39

@eskooh Definitely could use a volume control. I had the audio system set up to implement that but ran out of time to put the UI and game state management in for it.

human-writes-code 2020-10-09 04:35

@kr4ft3r Out of interest, are you running the game in Windows native or via something like Wine on Linux?

human-writes-code 2020-10-09 06:19

@shaolin-dave & @kr4ft3r I've linked a web build on the game page now. Let me know if there are issues (or maybe don't... I'm so tired... )

natethegreat 2020-10-09 06:21

Good job, fun entry! Really keeps you on your toes trying to track your own ship and the alien ships. Also a clever way to tie in a bit of realism (orbiting things) in a genre that usually disregards gravity as a way to fit the theme.

criggles 2020-10-09 06:23

Lovely graphics, lovely banter in the conversation window, funky music and a lot of polish. Amazing job!

There was something that felt really nice about how the rockets traveled.

king-cacti 2020-10-09 06:26

an awesome game!! i loved how you interoperated the theme, great music and i had lots of fun!

human-writes-code 2020-10-09 06:33

@natethegreat Thanks for playing and giving feedback! I'm glad you liked it.

@criggles Thanks! The rockets use a simple but relatively subtle algorithm to accelerate towards their target. It's an idea I picked up from the "Juice it or lose it" video (linked below). It's not the same algorithm they use for motion/momentum but it's the same idea. Also, that video is well worth watching.

@king-cacti Thanks!

vphyre 2020-10-09 06:43

Very interesting the proposal of the game. I liked the gameplay, it's a good arcade game. Congratulations.

m0dsat 2020-10-09 06:56

Great game. The dialog is hilarious. Gameplay simple but cool. Thanks!

gonzalol 2020-10-09 07:19

One of my favorites so far. I actually laugh with the dialogues (I love the idea of Bob, kind of a construction worker, being in charge of Earth defense). It fits the theme and the gameplay is smooth. Maybe it gets too difficult too soon (I survive until level 15 and blow up the Moon)

human-writes-code 2020-10-09 07:25

@m0dsat Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you found it funny.

@gonzalol Yeah, there are definitely issues with the difficulty spike. Still, level 15 is probably further than I ever made it  Thanks for playing!

garywiss 2020-10-09 07:51

Great game, I liked the tutorial dialog, I had difficulty to pass level 10 but it was fun. Good Job !

pradhuman 2020-10-09 08:03

Cool game I like characters sound

tom-stephenson 2020-10-09 09:31

A fun and challenging game that feels fair! The tutorial added a lot of personality to game and managed to both teach how to play and tell the story at the same time (Thank you for the option to speed up / skip text!).

As mentioned the gameplay felt challenging, but was really enjoyable! The graphics were great and the controls were responsive and felt intuitive to use.

Difficulty spiked up a little too fast after wave 10, but I feel like that's probably just me being bad at the game :p Overall a great entry, well done!

kr4ft3r 2020-10-09 12:42

Nah, I ran it in native win10 so idk what happened there. Web build worked great of course.

Good job, a decent shooter with increasing wave heat density. I wish laser would work on slow projectiles though.

Definitely some good humor, especially the broken windshield part. Since Bob looks like a construction worker, I imagine he just climbed into my office through the window and started talking about aliens.

A bit weird that it says "the aliens destroyed the earth" when I destroy the earth, but it can be taken with humor ("Umh, yes, the aliens did it, damn those aliens...").

On third try I somehow reached level 23 too fast, was a bit disappointed that there were no more waves. But, the ending stays true to the theme (was that the end or a glitch, I'm not sure).

human-writes-code 2020-10-09 13:05

@kr4ft3r Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, that was a bug you experienced at the end. Some one else reported a similar thing but it happened at an earlier level. Not sure what's causing that! Still level 23 is impressive... I think everyone is better at this game than I was in play testing!

lone-wolf 2020-10-09 21:42

Awesome work. This was a ton of fun to play. Holds up well when I turn on an autoclicker too (Screen shake warning)

neontropics 2020-10-24 17:34

The core gameplay loop is satisfying, and it is just the right level of frustrating to have to wait to be in a proper position to blast the aliens. The funky tunes and crunchy sound effects help a lot too.

Initially a bit too much text stopping you from playing.

human-writes-code 2020-10-25 07:32

@neontropics Thanks for playing! Yeah, I got a bit carried away with the text.

jamison 2020-10-27 17:31

Hey, this was pretty fun! I liked the extra complexity of having to avoid shooting your own moon/earth, too. Nice Missile Command feel to it. I think my only complaint is that there's not enough audible feedback when you hit your own moon/earth with one of your missiles, so half the time I didn't even notice I was hitting myself when I was shooting volleys at the enemies!

Anyway, it had fun good writing, nice simple and effective graphics... and that bass was slappin'!
