Love the mood of this game, from the clever writing, to the limited color palette, to the ever-reducing timer when you're out of the bunker. Having more to do mechanically would be appealing, but I understand the limitations due to the time limit and the game itself. This feels like a glimpse into a concept that can be further explored. Enjoyable world-building from the terminal!

mungobulge 2020-04-21 13:09

Love the minimalist artstyle. Well executed

geryon-games 2020-04-21 13:13

I really enjoyed the world you created and from the rich terminal to the audio to the beautiful graphics, you built a nice one. I feel like the timer could have less time so you feel a little more time pressure, but that might just be me. I'd buy this if it was more fleshed out. Great work!

ninsky 2020-04-21 13:18

I absolutely love the overall mood in this game! You get into the story immediately.

svdvorak 2020-04-21 13:18

Oh my, what a game! I loved the atmosphere, the writing, the artwork and colors... everything really! I wish it was longer. And I've also learned something new, I had never heard of gopher networks before.

maka 2020-04-21 13:21

Great vibe! Even if it's not long, the game is well finished.

sadzanenyama 2020-04-21 13:22

I really liked the atmosphere of this game. The logs on the terminals felt eerie, and cool. They nicely added to the world. I found one glitch where if you entered the bunker and quickly clicked again to go out the screen would go black. I couldn't really figure out what to do at the end. I thought I found all the towers and did them? Maybe I missed one. The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant and you should definitely lean on that if you decide to continue.

bziarkowski 2020-04-21 13:26

I kept the network alive! Loved everything about this game: art, music, writing. Good job.

tomyomy 2020-04-21 13:46

Super nice looking art style and well written text, I wish there was more to do in the game, and that it communicated that to the player a bit better. The sound effects and audio did compliment the tone of the game which I liked! I feel as if the controls could be refined a bit; having to repeatedly click became repetitive quite fast. However I did enjoy the experience - well done!

nosfer 2020-04-21 13:54

Love the mood, humor and storytelling!

splitpainter 2020-04-21 13:55

Ok, this is amazing. The presentation is very good, I liked the simplicity of the gameplay, and it has a good atmosphere due to the music.

wolfrug 2020-04-21 13:56

For some reason the timer reset to 2 minutes after every tower, so I basically finished the whole game in one run, oops. Maybe to prevent that you need to reset one tower at least once...? That said, this was a beautifully minimalistic little game - excellent world-building using so very little. Loved it!

local-minimum 2020-04-21 17:15

Very nice mood and feeling in the game! I liked the little bits of story and it was hard not to see some reference to the ongoing pandemic. I must say though, those people need to learn proper placement of ladders! If that's how they ran their society, they pretty much deserve a living in bunkers now  Controls were easy to understand, everything looked and played nice. Would of course have been nice with a bit more of a dramatic arc in the narrative, but it's hard to find time for such things during LD.

arinyl 2020-04-21 19:04

Gorgeous artstyle, I love this kind of pixel art so much! The mood of the game was amazing, and reading through all those notes was very fun! c:

welliton 2020-04-21 20:19

We have an awesome game here. Stabilishing connections in hazardous times brings me hope about our real situation. I usually dont play a lot of those text based games, but accessing the ghopers hub of other people was fun (nuts + maple tree/bees + hope was awesome). Great game and design, congratulations!

stuembi 2020-04-21 22:23

oh wow i love the pixel art. mood and setting are on point, well rounded game!

stupidpawn 2020-04-21 22:37

The mood of the game is topnotch, the pixel art looks good and the minimal sound fits well. I did not read the description you put up on this page prior to playing the game. This caused me to not understand what I was doing or why I was doing it. I just walked up some stairs clicked on the atenna masts and then there were these screen squares that filled up. Maybe you could make the goal of the game a little more explicit, but it could also just be me who did not read all the entry logs properly. Something that I think also could be improved is showing the time while you are searching for a signal and let you stop looking through the atenna when you want. I really enjoyed your game, well done!

eoshadows 2020-04-22 08:06

Nice! I loved the graphics, and the story was pretty intriguing! The way you even told the story was neat, with bits of humor sprinkled here and there. The whole antennae thing was really unique too! Well done!

mika-la-grand 2020-04-22 17:18

I was really liking the game, but then I got stuck. I was setting up the antenna just to the right of the bunker entrance, but I just couldn't get 5 bars of signal. There was also no way to stop the searching mini game. Perhaps you can also turn up the volume a bit, I had to crank my pc up to 100% just to hear some stuff. Schermopname (541).png

blinry 2020-04-22 21:17

Neat atmosphere in this one! Really enjoyed the art style (love the parallax effect!), and the look-for-signals mini game! Well done! It was unclear to me whether I've seen all the content of the game, I didn't find a real ending.

Also, I enjoyed looking up which browsers support the Gopher protocol nowadays! :)

randomhuman 2020-04-22 21:46

@mika-la-grand Was that the second antenna you visited? If so the target would be in the second "layer" of city. The third antenna would have a target in the hills behind the city, and not necessarily along the ridges either... I was trying to introduce some progression of difficulty, but maybe it could use some subtle directional hints rather than just proximity.

But yeah I should have had some way to cancel the search for sure, even if just the esc key. And thanks for the advice about the audio, I'll crank it up a bit in the next release!

randomhuman 2020-04-22 21:49

@wolfrug Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed!

That's wild that the timer kept resetting to two minutes... I've been trying to recreate that but haven't had any luck so far. Do you mind me asking what platform you're on?

randomhuman 2020-04-22 22:00

@sadzanenyama Thanks for the bug report! I haven't been able to recreate it but I think I have an idea of how to prevent it anyway.

If you activate all the antennas (there are 3) there is a particular post on the network that if you read it the game will end after you close the computer. I wasn't sure how to end the game tbh :P You didn't miss much, it's just a screen that says "Congratulations" basically

randomhuman 2020-04-22 22:09

Thanks @blinry ! I love a nice parallax

If you've activated 3 antennas there is a particular post you can read that will end the game after you close the computer. You've missed more in the posts themselves than in the actual ending of the game tbh.

belowzerogames 2020-04-23 01:17

Nice game , looks like there is some room to expand on this game.

si-wtosl 2020-04-23 01:37

I like the aesthetic for this game an indescribable amount. This is without a doubt my favorite submission so far visually. It's also really nice to see the gopher protocol get some love. I wonder how many people playing it thought it was fictional.

The only thing I wish the game had more of was the feeling of properly interacting with the protocol. It would have been really neat if I had to find a server post by manually typing in an ip address I found from another document.

rainbowism 2020-04-23 04:06

Although lacking in actual gameplay, the world and storytelling kept it engaging. The dull tones helped a lot with setting the atmosphere of the game as well. Also extra points for using Godot.

aeveis 2020-04-23 06:25

I liked it! It's a nice reflection of making contact despite being stuck in one place. The climbing of the ladders is and time limit makes you very wary though you usually have enough time. There was a small case where if I wanted to click on the ladder but it was obscured by the timer. Anyway, good job!

annie-owl 2020-04-23 20:44

That was an amazing experience! You made a fantastic job on setting up the perfect atmosphere with your writing and sound design. I was a little bit disappointed when the game finished abruptly, but then I realized that it is a perfect ending for this type of setting. It's post-apocalyptic earth, so we can only guess if the radio enthusiast will ever meet up with the girl from the hills, or if our hero will ever see another living person with his own eyes.

jjacobs 2020-04-24 13:46

I love the athomsphere and style of the game, also liked the online stories. Would like to see future updates, maybe something else in the bunker than just the computer?

tom-robson 2020-04-25 16:17

Honestly my favorite from the jam so far! I love a good moody atmosphere, and that Fallout-esque humour was a great touch to keep it from getting boring. I'd love to see it expanded. As someone else said, having more to do in the bunker, and more to do outside would be a nice addition, just to keep each loop more varied.

Other than that though, I'd love to see it taken further!

cvetk0 2020-04-25 18:08

What a great way to tell a story. The atmosphere, despite being kind of post apocalyptic is still very relaxing and you don't really feel pressed to push forward too fast. I love, and I mean freaking love the visuals, and minimalistic sound works great. I think you managed to pack a lot of gameplay mechanics into this game in a very limited time, and it works! I really hope to see more from you in the future. And cheers for using Godot . Keep it up!

m-trigo 2020-04-25 19:14

Congratulatiosn on the atmosphere, aesthetics and writing. They're all great.

It's short and very simple in terms of gameplay, but the best jam game I've played in a long while.

lookslikesomething 2020-04-28 13:39

Loved the mood of the game. As a lot says before me, the story and aesthetic was great !

neon 2020-05-02 22:23

Excellent aesthetic, the ambient sounds and the crisp visuals really do it for me. The theme of the game was.. inspiring? Compelling? I dunno, gopher sounds like a neat protocol, and the idea of connecting up an ad-hoc network is really neat. Maybe I should host a gopher site.

alexander-wayne 2020-05-10 14:14

Hi, I wanted to play the game, but Avast claims it got a virus for some reason...

randomhuman 2020-05-10 15:01

@alexander-wayne I'm sure it's a false positive, but unfortunately I don't think there's really anything I can do about that...

nolanfa 2020-05-10 20:33

hey; I loved this game. The atmosphere is great, I love the graphics, and I love the way you subtly reference the irl situation (because it's subtle). I also love how the narrative is poetic and full of hope. I kinda wish there were more, but I also kinda think it's a perfect game for this length. I was a bit disconcerted at the end, because I ended up doing several towers at once, and only reading some entries, and then there were no more towers, but I just read the rest of the entries then and it ended. Thanks for making this game!
