That was super fun. I love the art style. I never did find the source key tho.

torcado 2018-08-13 06:38

this is so cool! i reaally like the art and animations. i found it really interesting that not only did paths diverge, some of them converged near the end as well. not sure if that's good or bad, but i don't see many story games do this. really nice humor, also the music is super great and fits really well with the mood of the game.

really nice job!

It's really fun to play! I love the graphics of the game.^^

hi-irie 2018-08-13 16:09

@gary-beebe - Thank you for the feedback!! I hope you try another play through to see if you can find it.

@torcado - haha we tried to be very fun with it and let our imaginations run wild @starvingindie is our designer and the one who coded while we artists/animators were busy cranking away to keep up with the scenes that were being delivered. I'm glad you also liked the music. We thought of the entirety of the game as synth-waveesque and the color palette turned out that way too.

@oneiros thank you for much! We hope you'll play again to see what other ways there are to die :) stay tuned!!

sylvie 2018-08-13 16:40

Really great graphics and music!

rob-white 2018-08-13 16:43

Wow, what an utterly beautiful looking choose your own adventure. Loaded with humour and a fantastic piece of music. There are also a good amount of branching paths. My only qualms -and this is all I could really come up with - are that it's a bit (huge emphasis on 'bit') arduous to have to scroll down for every new piece of story after a decision. It also wasn't immediately obvious that you could click and use the items in your inventory during decisions. Overall, a fab game!

hegemege 2018-08-13 16:45

Fun adventure, really loved the visual style, especially the sink with slugs looked cool!

I only noticed the audio player at the top after getting one ending. It would be reaaaaally cool if some of the actions triggered some audio effects.

smogen 2018-08-13 16:51

I came to a point where I die with every option I choose but all in all the game is really fun! I love the concept, the art and the humorous story telling. Great Game!

hi-irie 2018-08-13 16:54

@sylvie - thank you for playing. Please come back to try another unique playthrough. There's 4 in total :)

@rob-white - yea we're looking at getting an autoscrolling feature or having the latest narrative card pop up at the top instead. Stay Tuned!!

@hegemege haha yea we're working on getting some polish into the game so the atompshere is even better. The music definitely goes with the story but not sure if it should auto play right when the game starts. We'll figure it out though. Dont forget to come back and try for a unique play through. There are 4 total :)

lisa 2018-08-13 16:56

Loved this! Amazing graphics, colors, and animations. Humorous story, poor mochi!

teddynashor 2018-08-13 18:51

YOU EXIT YOUR APARTMENT, LOCK THE DOOR BEHIND YOU AND HEAD OFF TO MEET YOUR DATE.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU'VE ACHIEVED ONE OF FOUR ENDINGS!

WOOT! - That art was super rad, awesome work! Dialog was hilarious too.

akaneiro 2018-08-13 19:43

Omg, this is oozing coolness! One of the best (if not THE best) graphics i've seen so far :D And the music! I love the game. Also, not very common to see 'choose your own adventure' type of game here. Very creative take on the theme.

outline 2018-08-13 19:48

Fantastic adventure! I love the graphics, music and all the story. This game's simple yet perfect - I'm really picky when it comes to games but I've loved the experience playing this one. Thanks a lot! :)

emily-chen 2018-08-13 19:50

@akeneiro Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoyed the game~

hi-irie 2018-08-13 20:26

gus-the-shark 2018-08-14 05:17

Really cool design, I don't see a lot of text based games around here. Also, the song is great! Love it. The graphics are also stunning. The only thing is that it feels a bit too linear at times, I wish there were more options/paths. Good work!!

powerauer 2018-08-14 06:11

Thanks @gus-the-shark for playing our game! Man if only we had more time, I know we would have had more branches to play off of.Glad that you still had fun though! :D

powerauer 2018-08-14 06:11

minakon 2018-08-14 11:32

The graphics are well done, I like that the colours went well together. Also the text was original and fun :)

emily-chen 2018-08-14 15:55

@minakon Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! It was definitely a challenge with our purposefully limited color palette. We really enjoyed working on this~

@gus-the-shark Ahh!! Yes, the song was a fantastic choice from @hi-irie that fits perfectly with the mood of Al. Thanks for playing our game!

baconsenpaii 2018-08-14 16:36

The graphics and music are nice, and the story is quite funny. It was a really interesting entry.

foomar 2018-08-14 16:36

This is one hell of a good looking visual novel! I really liked your humorous take on cleaning up the house, feels just like the real thing. Somehow I didn't manage to not find the key and leave the house in three playthroughs.

hi-irie 2018-08-14 16:42

@gus-the-shark - thanks for playing our game gus!

@minakon - we had a blast putting the graphics and story line together. At the last minute we decided to change the color palette and help unify the overall feel.

@baconsenpaii - bacon senpai is a great name. Thanks for playing and we're glad you had a good time.

@foomar - glad to hear it foomar! yea we're in the middle of getting some fixes our there for the game and making sure that we're adding our credits too:)

zessirb 2018-08-14 17:04

I like the artwork ! Receiving the SMS also accentuated the funny part of the game ; great work overall !

Also, spoilers... I was stuck and could not use the soap I picked up ! Every other choices were leading me to death. Anyway, I restarted and chose an other way.

jokku 2018-08-14 17:09

Really interesting idea I haven't seen anything like this before! I liked the graphics a lot and nice to see you put some humor in the game too!

juanj7 2018-08-14 17:16

Best game from the jam I've played so far! Great job! The art and animation is amazing, and the soundtrack is stunning! I'll try to reach all ends

hi-irie 2018-08-14 18:13

@zessirb - Thanks for your support. It's definitely one of those games that will challenge you to see what items you can use and at what time. We're still working on bettering the experience and giving some small hints. Hopefully you'll try again for a unique playthroug.

@jokku - All the humor here was by @starvingindie helping to drive the narrative along with the visuals for the story. Thanks for your support!

@juanj7 - high appreciated!!! we're so glad that you love it and gives us validation to do more. The music was by technoAXE called Spire of Light and is royalty free :)

emily-chen 2018-08-14 18:24

@juanj7 Thanks so much!!! Can't wait to see you encounter all the endings :smiley_cat:

@jokku haha we had a ton of fun making it. play testing it was always cool since the humor constantly got to us too

@zessirb I'm glad you were able to find a way out in the end!!

@baconsenpaii awesome username btw~ thanks for playing our game!!

@foomar thanks for the feedback!!

deprecat 2018-08-14 22:40

Oh my god these coloooooors <3 The art is incredibly powerful for the short amount of time it was built. The included music track is also insanely good. I loved this a lot.

emily-chen 2018-08-14 22:48

@deprecat Ahhh!! Thanks!! We had so much fun (given the short time limit lol) but hey, having fun was the most important key right? Thanks for playing our game!

mowztouch 2018-08-14 22:50

hehehe story is immersive. Nice entry! I really liked it <3

hi-irie 2018-08-14 23:16

@mowztouch Thanks for the support!!! definitely come back to try a different play through if you can :)

alex-lutay 2018-08-15 01:20

Ha! I've opened the door with a key, who would've thought that such mundane thing could feel so heroic.

Really loved the art direction, it helped me to feel mental uniqueness of the protagonist.

Wonderful!

jaydek 2018-08-15 04:11

Visuals were amazing, great art style. It suited the crazy storytelling perfectly.

maskinmask 2018-08-15 14:44

wow i love the graghics!and the narrative! you did a really good job man!

hi-irie 2018-08-15 16:14

@deprecat - we're glad that you enjoy the colors. At some point we had a crazy color palette but decided to unify it on saturday morning.

@mowztouch - thanks for the support!!

@alex-lutay - haha that's awesome! "Ha! I’ve opened the door with a key, who would’ve thought that such mundane thing could feel so heroic." this comment made my day we're glad that you enjoyed the game.

@jaydek - we basically pitched random ideas and it all fell into place. We really wanted to focus on what people wanted to do and what was fun for us. We're glad that you enjoyed it!

@maskinmask - Thanks mask, we're happy that you enjoyed the game. Dont forget to play again for another unique playthrough!

happyhour 2018-08-15 17:15

Killer artwork and a cute narrative. Personally I've never seen an adventure game presented in this type of web format, so it was a fresh take for me. Wondering if there's more like this? Being able to scroll back on the previous choices and the checkpoint restarts were also very handy. Great work to everyone involved!

teo-miklethun 2018-08-15 18:09

Awesome game with amazing art! Great job!

hi-irie 2018-08-15 18:43

@happyhour - thanks for the feedback and your support. There are other narrative formats but you're right I dont think there are much out there that are surfaced this way.

@teo-miklethun - Thank you very much!!!

rulrite 2018-08-15 19:17

It's really cool to find a classic text adventure game on here, especially one that's so well done! You have such an original concept for a story, too - I had to keep playing just to see what would happen next (it turns out that having a demon-infested house allows for all sorts of interesting events).

I noticed a couple of spelling mistakes/typos here and there, but having made a text-based game for Ludum Dare before, I know that kind of stuff is inevitable... and with so many sentences to check over, I'm really just impressed that you managed to cram so much stuff in! It's amazing that there were so many animations and pictures throughout the entire story, too: they're all so fantastically done, and I've no idea how you managed so many. I really think it's the best-looking game I've seen on here so far, which is strange considering that it's a text adventure!

Overall, you guys did a wonderful job. I hope you get all the praise you deserve for it.

hi-irie 2018-08-15 20:01

@rulrite - Thank you for the support! We have 4 people on the team total 1 game designer/Coder 1 producer/artist 2 artists/ animators we were able to get a good amount of animation in and brought some of the scope down a bit to focus on the story line and on our final day the team started to lose steam so we mostly focused on art polish and tying up some loosen ends. We definitely have spelling errors that need to be address and will be deploying hot fixes as they are ready. Thank you so much!!!

flower 2018-08-15 20:27

This game looks amazing! Excellent job!)

hi-irie 2018-08-15 20:34

@flower - thank you for your support!!!

angela-k 2018-08-15 23:56

I really enjoyed it, it was very funny and it was full of imagination. The only thing that ruined the start for me was that I didn't see I had to start the music myself, so I thought it had no audio. I replayed it with audio and it was even more awesome! Great sound!

bevel 2018-08-16 02:52

Wow! There were definitely some funny parts in there, and I obviously chose to flood the bathroom XD. This game is extremely well put together and the graphics and art are super good! Good Job!

hi-irie 2018-08-16 15:39

@angela-k - thank you for the support. I think we might work on getting auto-play for the music so that people dont forget it's there.

@bevel - Thank you!!! Definitely try for another play through if you can. Flooding the bathroom is not the only option hahah

angel-felix 2018-08-16 20:32

this game has beautiful graphics and had a really good looking pallet. loved the story btw

honey 2018-08-18 08:31

Great job! Funny premise, well told, great visuals! Very good one!

kinsei 2018-08-18 09:58

Super fun!! The graphics and music are gorgeous. I love the concept, really immersive, happy to see story-driven games in the jam! Bonus points for the humor.

Just a thing I noticed: I could see the different URLs for the choices when hovering them (bottom left URL preview on chrome), some of them where labelled "death-eleven" and such. It's only a detail, but you might want to make your URLs a little more cryptic if you want the experience to be 100% blind ;)

Great job!! I really enjoyed the experience.

kiirohanabi 2018-08-20 01:48

A great game! I loved the graphics and the way you told the story. I play three times but I think I ended up getting the same ending? Anyway I loved it. Maybe you should think about renaming your scenes, because at a certain point I realized that when my mouse was over an option, my browser was displaying the income, like "scene-sixteen" and "death-twelve" for example. I didn't look at it after to avoid spoilers but I just wanted to tell you :D

anubhav-kashyap 2018-08-21 12:56

Super fun game! It's great that you were able to make a story-based game in such a short time. Rated highly, especially in fun and mood.

hi-irie 2018-08-21 16:21

@kinsei - oh interesting! @starvingindie might wanna look into this and get a hotfix in maybe? Thank you for the support and playing through 1 of the 4 unique playthroughs!

@kiirohanabi - ah you're getting it too. Hmm wonder what it could be. I'll check in with @starvingindie Thank you very much for you support in all of this!!!

@anubhav-kashyap - thank you very much. WE busted our butts to make sure we were able to get something good in. 4 unique playthroughs were definitely alot. We'll probably work our scope down in half next time.

peachtreeoath 2018-08-22 04:13

Excellent presentation, I haven't seen anything like this before. I loved the different ways you expressed the game through the medium, especially the part where the couch showed almost an inventory of items popping out. I'm curious, was this a framework that you guys used or did you roll it up yourself?

2018-09-02 18:41

Cool graphics, lovely writing. I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/WOSoM8jnjZc

powerauer 2018-09-03 06:23

Thank you @jupiter-hadley for the review!! If you have any questions about the process just ask. We really appreciate you linking us and taking the time to play our game :D !

rosypenguin 2018-09-04 00:35

After dying half a dozen times I finally did it! Loved the humorous story and the pixelart is really well done. I wish I had a choice to restart from the beginning and not just from the last checkpoint. Overall, a solid entry that stands out from the others. Great work!
