LD33 — You are the Monster

Sheep Hunter by Aaron San Filippo 2015-08-25T18:07:00

audio and mood are this game's strengths, I think. gameplay is quite challenging at first, but I started enjoying it once I learned how to distract the shepherd. I enjoy the environment and atmosphere quite a lot. nicely done.

Mow Town by Dell 2015-08-28T21:45:00

The voxel art looks great. I like how the giblets fly out and knock over other people, too.

The controls need work. I understand you're going for a floaty feel, but this goes a little too far. You can get away with a lot of directional momentum, but rotational momentum really gets in the way of feeling like you're playing the game. Asteroids, for example.

It would help to add more pedestrians, lower the camera angle, or add some radar or an arrow toward more people to murder. After the courtyard, it was sometimes hard to spot more victims to thrust toward.

Spooky Cuties by OnlySlightly 2015-08-26T17:36:00

my favorite part is being able to type like I'm an actor and all the right words come out. haha, that's actually pretty fun! (:

I also really like the look of everything.

Spooky Cuties by OnlySlightly 2015-08-28T19:12:00

This is great! The art is really cute and I love how you can rewrite your responses. That's such a nice touch.

I played as Zoey one time but still typed out "I'm not a xxxxx kind of guy". Heh. The second time I played, I got to the questions about Grave of Bones and tabbed back to my profile to change it to be all about those shows. It totally worked!

I missed the desktop and the other chat tabs the first couple times, too. I got into a chat with Mark where I typed "I'm 21 years old btw", backspaced, but then couldn't type anything else. Then the screen went black. Not sure if bug or haunting.

Itty Bitty Bites by Andrew Adams 2015-08-25T18:16:00

really love the happy visuals and music. has a very retro feel to it. and I love playing a new Rampage like game. it was very difficult to tell if or what I was controlling, but eventually I took the time to read the instructions screen and found mouse and keyboard worked for me and I even won a round. gamepad didn't seem to work properly if at all. cool game. nicely done. — Drew Van Camp

Geminis by Ludipe 2015-08-28T19:35:00

Nice work! Lots of great art and animation on display here. The ringmaster's animations are great, as are the split/join animations for the sisters. I played at Newgrounds, but didn't get any sound output.

The actions were simple, but you got a fair amount of puzzle variety out of them. Great job!

Minion Factorium by DaanVanYperen 2015-08-28T18:43:00

Cute game. I've played a lot of Manufactoria, so I can see the influence here. The pixel art and animation looks great, and the mouth sounds are pretty good. The music does get a bit repetitive. Good work, overall.

I think the levels could use a little more conveyor time at the beginning before the minions start falling off the belt and dying. I had a hard time just dragging and rotating the pieces fast enough to save them, especially in later levels.

I finished level 5 with four stars, but nothing happened. Not sure if that's the end or a bug. Played on the submission page in Firefox.

The Creature from East Second Street by emmelineprufrock 2015-08-26T06:10:00

Cute story. Burgoo ending because burgoo ending. Buddy Jesus ending had some reflections of the cameraperson in Hana's sunglasses, and cameraperson was not a green blob.

That first choice, pretty/smile, had less than a second at the end to make a decision. That one could stand to be fixed. The others seemed okay. Some typos; unsure if that was an intentional homage to dating sim ports.

Captions baked in would make it easier to play, I think.

The Trial of Tyrone Rex by Manky 2015-08-25T18:40:00

hahahaha, this is so hilarious. really enjoyed the final product. obviously a time consuming project but totally worth all the hard work you put into it. so glad you stuck with it. you're getting four stars across the board from me because every aspect of the game was entertaining. — Drew Van Camp

Employee of the Month: A Binary Story by dcolgan 2015-08-26T17:53:00

that's a pretty interesting experience. at first I thought it was just a tiny story that you play right or wrong, but then it all suddenly made sense and I saw an opportunity to go on an even bigger adventure. very cool how the game's functions pull you into the world the more you play. cool concept!

UMON by magenta 2015-08-28T20:28:00

Nice work! The skill tree is a nice addition to the auto-attacking idle game. I love the recovery in the bathroom with the newspaper. Art looks great, sound is pretty good. You might include a mute option though, since the sound can get a little abrasive when you leave the game running to build up gold.

It took me a while to figure out how to unlock the next skill, and resetting the previous skill meant a bunch more clicking as soon as you upgrade.

I think there's a bug where Umon moves to the right with each attack, so late in the game, he hits the right side of the screen and goes to recover in the bathroom before he's fought all the villagers. But it's good up to that point. I got to rank 51, and because of that lost gold, the villagers are now stronger than Umon and I can't afford any more upgrades.

Intergalactic Love Machine by Slothmachine 2015-08-28T18:56:00

I played it to the end. That randomized shoe-picking question felt kind of unfair, but the rest of it was really entertaining. The fish puns were top-notch! Beautiful art and great choice in music. The first impression at the menu screen is worth starting the game for.

Great variety of aliens! The game went a lot farther than I thought it would. Good mix of option-picking and... other kinds of interactions. Gameplay is pretty straightforward. It's a bit like a game of Simon, where you have to remember a long string of button presses. I'd like to see more of those non-option-picking minigames, though I know that's a lot more work.

Intergalactic Love Machine by Slothmachine 2015-08-28T21:56:00

@Slothmachine Aha, I didn't notice the cue, only that it changed between playthroughs. Then again, it took me like 8 playthroughs to notice the soccer ball, so...

BTW, the WebGL build failed on start in Firefox. The only clear error in the console was that it tried to load "http://slothmachine.net/NewsFlash/NewsFlash_IntergalacticLove.txt" but the request was blocked because the Dropbox page is HTTPS and that link is HTTP. Visiting that address just gives me a 404. The plugin version of the game worked fine.

...But which one? by Jessica Hayley 2015-08-26T17:42:00

haha, that's funny. it's pretty tough to move around after a while! but I'm also very motivated by that piece of candy. managed to make it through to the end. I didn't give up. I wanted candy!

enjoyed the visuals and I like your take on the theme.

Treatment and Control by Two Scoop Games 2015-08-26T05:42:00

Great sound design on this one. The sparse music reverberating behind the footsteps and unnerving "wah wah" speech is really somber. Lovely pixel art, as always. Good detail, adding some environmental items with descriptions.

I couldn't figure out what to do on my own; I ended up getting a hint from @vegapomme27's comment. I definitely agree it would help to have a visual indicator when you're carrying a pill.

I liked the delivery of story through talking to different characters. More of that! Were names and seating positions inconsistent? It'd be cool to have the same people in the same spots for the duration of the playthrough. I wanted a little more from the ending, too.

Typo: "People are dissapearing" -> "People are disappearing"

Monster Simulator 2015 by Peach Pie Productions 2015-08-26T18:13:00

hahahaha, I'm spending too much time with this. good job making it ridiculously entertaining. the best part to me was that after I already (immediately) loved it, you would throw me new features that made it even better. very smooth.

I played the web version and it worked great from what I can tell. really enjoyed the audio. after a while with the keyboard I discovered the controller support. the only thing I couldn't figure out is the mouse wheel control. seemed to work at first and then I got stuck on lunging at people.

overall, a lot of stupid fun. this must be the greener circle of hell. nice place. (:

DragonScriber by Twinters 2015-08-26T21:50:00

This is great! Love the art and the mechanic of typing those names.

EPIC. NAME. LIST. Wow. Skews European, but has incredible variety. Long names coming from the sides can be make you want to hurry the dudes up. It's like "Archbish--OH GET ON WITH IT ALREADY." I like how the shorter the name, the faster the knight.

I got to wave 12 before I decided I was done and let the knights have the castle. 130,744. http://imgur.com/0foCb2i

Levels 3 and 5 seemed to ambush me with a ton of dudes right at the start. Almost got overwhelmed at the beginning of those waves. The rest were fine. Not sure what happened there.

Bus Crush by Selzier 2015-08-28T20:02:00

Driving the bus over the terrain is really fun. The passengers are a total afterthought. I started ignoring the passengers entirely, attempting to speedrun the level. With passengers, my high score was 5800. Without, 5500.

That firetruck needs to be a playable vehicle! Color the passengers red and make them firefighters!

Eat Free by Team Myopia 2015-08-28T02:00:00

Ooh, looks cool. Any chance of a Linux build? Or WebGL?

Tentacle Smash by BoxedMeatRevolution 2015-08-26T20:13:00

Cool entry! The smooth, flat-colored graphics look really clean. Good variety of enemy types. The tentacle moves well, just a little slower than you'd like. I'm a fan of the way you can smack enemies into each other for combos, like Planet Punch. Good stuff.

A "Replay" button and persistent high scores would be icing on the cake.

-mildmojo

Prowl by HThomson 2015-08-28T06:12:00

This is nice! The tentacle animation is great, the gameplay is simple but strategic. The game feels very complete.

I got down to 6 sheep on one playthrough before I got nailed by a farmer. You do eventually figure out how to avoid them, but I don't think my trackpad was precise enough to do it well.

More than once, I jumped when I heard the gunshot of a farmer. Good mood. The sheep dots around the edges worked well as directional indicators.

WEAKER BOWSER BROS by JHM 2015-08-25T04:47:00

The music was some fine work. Plenty of variety with your vocal instruments. The graphics look nice, too. I like the curvature effect.

Mario's movement isn't half bad, either. You've got him jumping at about the right times for things.

The controls didn't seem to work well with my laptop's touchpad. I could see what I had to do, but clicking didn't reliably consume blocks, right-clicking didn't reliably put them into the scene, and I don't have a middle-click available to switch blocks. =(

The Last Demon by 9.ar7k 2015-08-26T20:05:00

I beat it, but it was hard. The hellraise spell could use a targeting indicator; it was tough to judge how far its range would be. I used the minions almost exclusively, but their cooldown is pretty long. The area of effect spell's range was a little too short, I think. If I was close enough to use it, I had zero chance of dodging their projectiles.

The graphics look nice, especially the hand-from-below death animation. The color palette feels good. The HUD is very nice. Overall, it feels very complete. Nice work.

-mildmojo

Kraken Babies by johnhattan 2015-09-12T21:53:00

Nice work! The graphics look great, the game feels complete. The "one-move queen" versus "two-move king" movement feels pretty balanced; Maurice has a bit of an advantage, I think. Showing each character's available movement on mousedown was a really helpful feature. I liked the combined scoring for the player taking a turn as each of the krakens, too.

Rockyzilla by Foxdhalia 2015-08-28T19:44:00

Cute! Rockyzilla and the icons look great. I wasn't sure what was going on at first, whether I had to move him around or not. You might add a note about the controls or gameplay in your description. I punched those buildings! I brought down those helis!

...Ahhhh, now I see, you have instructions in one of the screenshots. Was that not in the game? Put that in the game!

-mildmojo

REVOLUTION by dacharya64 2015-08-28T21:18:00

It's like Nation States! I was glad to see the link at the end of the game. I didn't know it was still around. Mid-2000s represent!

I like the writing. It feels like you put a lot of thought into the situations presented. I mean, these things often boil down to spreadsheets (as with our game), but the writing is what engages the player.

Open the door and smile by Arnage 2015-09-02T05:58:00

Looks pretty, but the control scheme doesn't work with touchpads that don't have buttons. I can't hold the left and right mouse buttons at the same time because LMB is a one-finger touch and RMB is a two-finger touch. Also didn't work with touchscreen. I could hold RMB to focus, but as soon as I let up to click left, it started going out of focus and didn't let me take an action.

Watched the video, cool focus mechanic and graphical effects. The brand of monster for sale here's a little unfortunate, given real DV issues.

Monster Free by kobo 2015-08-31T21:07:00

Cool! The movement was a little tricky, but it wasn't much of an issue since you're faster than the skiers and you can pinball off the scenery without penalty.

How come the snow's black? =D

Saturday Morning Destruction by roaringcatgames 2015-08-26T18:20:00

YES! hahahahaha

ok, so I can't stop laughing as I play it. it's literally making me tired (guess that makes it a simulator).

basically, this is stupid fun and I absolutely LOVE the music. how much music is there? I stopped during the second round but it felt like it could go forever.

this wasn't the kind of WASD controls I was expecting. totally took me by surprise and had me rolling.

thank you for making this. (:

FTLOL by team_ftlol 2015-08-25T19:54:00

Thanks for giving it a try, folks!

@ZzCalvinzZ, @9.ar7k: The theme might be a little subtle. The encounters are designed so that you're *really likely* to sacrifice people and kittens in terrible ways to achieve your goal of making it to the destination. You probably don't see yourself as a monster, but surviving colonists probably would (if there are any).

FTLOL by team_ftlol 2015-08-27T17:41:00

Thanks for playing & posting, @Unept, @Aaranos, @Crosstales, @Glimaleite!

@HThomson: Great advice. We had plans to describe player solutions like that, but it didn't make it in. Player classification based on play style sounds awesome. <3

@TwoScoop: Thanks! Yeah, it was designed to be played fullscreen, the UI didn't account for small windows/devices. =/ "SOLUTION GRADE" would be clearer language than "PROBLEM SOLVED".

Motherflipin' T-Rex! by mantis 2015-08-25T03:48:00

Nice work! The T-Rex looks great, and the chunky landscape works. I like the oversized splats for the pedestrians. It feels like T-Rex's controls used to be floaty, but you fixed them, which is a weird feeling.

It would help to have an indication when T-Rex takes a hit. I played a couple of times before I realized the yellow streams were coming from tanks on the ground, not something in the sky.
