LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Friends Adrift by Samuli 2024-10-09T15:40:12Z

This is absolutely amazing! I really enjoyed this one, the gameplay is simple but in a good way, it was just a fun and pleasant experience. Mine worked fine on ePSXe. Definitely an interesting and innovative project for the jam. Hopefully this project gets a lot of attention because it was both very fascinating and very fun!

Ratulo64 Prototype by emanvidmaker 2024-10-08T23:58:44Z

Wonderful experience, I absolutely adore 64-era platformers so I really enjoyed this one. Overall the level design was pretty good, the only buggy thing I encountered were the jump pads, if you hit two at the same time you would get the force of both, ended up hitting the batch of 9 all at once and soaring into the air for way too long. An absolutely great game overall, great work!

Humanely Haunted by darefus 2024-10-08T20:55:17Z

Absolutely wonderful game! Great art and very well programmed, only bugs I encountered is that if you die by two things at the same time the game fades to black twice, and the eyes staying upright when the player is down. Overall the game is incredibly polished and really funny, great work!

TinySim by JPatrick 2024-10-09T00:26:16Z

Very unique entry! The lack of any real player interaction definitely makes it difficult to spend too much time in, but I still found it quite interesting. I've had it running on my other monitor for a while and it's fun to watch the little creatures roam around and evolve. There's no entry quite like this, you've made a very unique program that I got some decent enjoyment out of.

Like A Moth To A Podiatrist by Verbante 2024-10-08T22:06:07Z

Very unique concept with a brilliant execution! Love that it's based on Norm Macdonald's moth joke, absolutely love that one. The game is beautiful visually with the lighting, the audio design is pleasant. Normally I like to give critiques for improvement but you frankly did amazing with this one, I have no critiques to give.

Spirits of the Forest by RaineShadow 2024-10-08T21:45:10Z

Overall quite the enjoyable game. The trickster had the best design but admittedly its luck based trial was a bit dull, the rhyming one was fun, it was enjoyable to use context clues to find the answer, and the riddles trial was really enjoyable and my favorite of the three. Cute story and very well made, great work!

Vi and the Fairies by Monado 2024-10-08T23:18:43Z

An absolutely outstanding game! The visuals are absolutely amazing, I love the 3D pixel art style of graphics so much and you absolutely nailed it. The movement is very fun, and the special abilities from the fairies is amazing. Admittedly it could align more with the theme but I do see the connection between the fairies and tiny creatures. I think if you continued working with this you could have a genuinely incredible product.

Mouse Mouse by AploveStudio 2024-10-10T07:41:23Z

A very fun entry! Loved the color palette for the game and the pixel art was very well done, there were many creative ideas that made the game far more fun like the mouse traps that propel you. I personally loved the movement, I saw a demonstration of it on Twitter and it's what made me try the game. I'm personally a huge fan of super fast paced games where your speed can make things a bit more difficult to control. Overall I had fun playing, great work!

DeskBuddy by Rambar 2024-10-10T07:26:52Z

Amazing game! It makes great use of Godot's features, is simple and perfect for a jam setting, and served as a great little companion to sit there while I played some of the jam games tonight. Furthermore your jam page itself has wonderful and professional formatting and presentation. Every single last detail has gotten careful attention and I definitely think this is one of the most well presented and polished games of the whole jam.

Blood-Type by eeperdeheap 2024-10-09T00:32:43Z

I enjoyed this one! Visually it's very nice and I liked the sound design quite a bit, the U.I. also looked really nice. The idea of the game taking place in a bloodstream was very cool and was a unique take on the theme. Not sure if vein 2 or the boss vein can be entered but I couldn't get in them. The enemy bullets should definitely do more damage and the biggest fault is there's no real incentive to kill enemies. Overall I still enjoyed playing it a lot, great work!

build_a_dready_bear.swf by orbitaldot 2024-10-14T00:49:30Z

Absolutely wonderful game! Easily one of my favorite jam entries I've played thus far, this is the exact sort of mood I like in games so I was a huge fan of this one. The music for each room of the process is nice, the mechanics are well made, overall this is just a solid entry with no major flaws. If you took this further and displayed the dreadybears as they were made I think this would be a stellar game!

Fur & Fury by Caerind 2024-10-09T18:13:20Z

Very well made game! It's rare to see an unreal engine game in game jams that is this optimized and visually appealing, great work making such a pleasant game in such a difficult engine! I experienced no major bugs or flaws in my playthrough.

Roll to Attack by AStrayRae 2024-10-08T22:40:36Z

Easily my favorite game I've played so far out of the jam entries. Very unique concept, very good execution. A bit more polish on stuff like U.I. and atmosphere and this would be a genuinely incredibly fun full product. Outstanding work!

Code Bunny by Stevie257 2024-10-09T16:26:18Z

Got through wave 10 but could definitely keep going as this game is incredibly fun. Combat feels perfect, every time I got an upgrade for the dash attack I took it and it made my route so fun as I got to just dash around. The character and enemy models look fantastic, the electronic screen between levels was fun. I think the environment could look a bit more interesting, perhaps a different color each wave, not too bold of a color, something low saturation could work.

Overall this game was phenomenal, already feels close to a full finished quality game in just 3 days, simply amazing.

Five Feet Under by Saumon 2024-10-10T06:59:13Z

Enjoyable game! eEnjoyed dashing around quite a bit even if my overuse of it got me killed quite a few times. A pretty unique and fun take on the jam theme for sure!

Slimecube by JonasO 2024-10-08T22:21:17Z

Very cute and enjoyable game! There are so many incredibly creative decisions made that I really enjoy, the mechanic of pulling the item into the device is really interesting and unique. Overall a very good idea with brilliant execution, I enjoyed this one a lot, great work!

Tiny, Cute and Bloody by taki640 2024-10-09T00:43:15Z

Really enjoyed this one. Loved the simple visuals, the colors were pleasant with a good contrast between the lively creatures and the dark world. It was simple but fun, a pleasant jam game experience overall.

Dishes by LJ Wei 2024-10-08T21:14:23Z

The HTML version on the ludum website doesn't work, however the download and itch.io version does so luckily I could still play this wonderful game. Visually it is amazing, especially the pixel art segment after you complete the first portion. The main character design is cute and the puzzles are engaging. I often had trouble finding out what to click and where to click but ultimately I made 3 dishes so the game was relatively clear and easy to understand. Great work overall, hope to see more from you because this was quite pleasant!

Vortex of Life by Chenlola108 2024-10-10T07:07:32Z

Absolutely phenomenal storytelling! The cutscenes in this game were truly something else and I really enjoyed the story that was told. I do share the sentiment with some other developers here that it's a little difficult to really tell what's going on in terms of gameplay and what the cards really did in the experiment. But regardless I still had a great time looking at the wonderful art and witnessing the amazing story. With some more clear instructions you could have an absolutely phenomenal product

pyxis by rice373 2024-10-09T01:02:01Z

Very beautiful game, the color choice is absolutely phenomenal! I managed to make it past the ice slide puzzle after great difficulty, as you normally can't change direction mid slide in puzzles like that. But unfortunately got stuck at the conveyor puzzle as I got placed here unable to moveStuck.png

Still a fantastic game, love that you chose the Wolf RPG engine, I'm a big fan of that one. Great work overall!

Awake by YangAether 2024-10-09T00:48:40Z

Absolutely astounding visual style for this game! It's obvious to see it's unfinished but I definitely think you should continue working on this, it seems like it'd be a fun game with more development time. Overall great work, I hope to see you continue the project!

Bakudan Baku-tan by TwinkleSoft 2024-10-09T22:15:33Z

Genuinely phenomenal! This game is truly amazing, always love games like this and you have done it with brilliant execution. The visuals and sound design is wonderful, the patterns are well telegraphed and enjoyable, great work overall truly!

Hivemind by NeoAwesomeon 2024-10-08T22:15:12Z

Wonderful little arcade style game. Love the visuals in the models a lot, and appreciate the clear demonstration of the controls. The command ability is the best part of the game, moving the minions around and attacking with them is very fun. Definitely the main issue is the lag, even on my computer that can run things relatively well it started to lag around 2 minutes. Overall great work, I had fun!

City Saver by BuzzyDev 2024-10-15T23:09:13Z

Very well made game, had a lot of personality! The different attacks and movement were very well programmed and the animation for the ultimate attack was quite wonderful. The game was simple but in a good way, even had I missed the tutorial (which thankfully I pressed the question mark first) I still think I would've had a decent idea of what to do.

Fails to really match the theme "tiny creatures" as even the player seems to be decently well sized against the city. The music being made with Suno and AIVA AI makes it clash heavily with the game and doesn't fit the tone much at all, and it can be best to stray away from generative AI materials as it's generally frowned upon and a legal disaster on who owns it. Even stock music would serve the purpose better.

Overall a solid entry! It's wonderful visually and in also in terms of programming, just needs some minor touch-ups on clarity and audio and you have a solid entry!

The Enchanted Forest by Evelyn_Rudaleva 2024-10-12T01:52:12Z

Fantastic looking game! As stated by many other players it is very difficult to tell where to go. It can be hard to separate what's part of the scene vs what's interactable. A big help would be barriers that stop you from walking off the screen. An amazing start nonetheless, with some polishing this game is well on the way to a great finished product!

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-08T20:59:23Z

Thank you very much for the feedback @darefus! My top priority going forward with the project is making the enemies do more damage, as it takes way too many hits for them to actually defeat your creatures. Glad you enjoyed the little dudes and boss animations that @familyneighbor designed!

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-08T22:25:32Z

Thank you for the kind words @verbante! @familyneighbor definitely did a great job with the models of our creatures and bots!

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-08T22:26:43Z

Thank you very much for the thorough feedback @neoawesomeon, it's greatly appreciated! @familyneighbor was quite proud of his animations for the final boss robot, unfortunately I didn't have time to properly program what we had in mind. We'll definitely put more focus on it as we continue work with the game.

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-09T03:16:21Z

Thank you so much @monado! I appreciate the kind words, we definitely had Pikmin in mind when making the game and derived inspiration from it as we worked.

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-09T14:51:05Z

Major thanks for the thorough analysis @shadowbrain! I appreciate some good critiques and you've stated them perfectly.

Most of them can be summed up by poor time management and feature creep. The creatures slowly get stronger: the primary colors being the weakest, secondary being the mid range, and brown being a mix of all the colors being the strongest. We have a lot more planned for this project that will tackle all the issues listed, one of which being the addition of sounds and music. Thank you again for such a wonderful and thorough critique!

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-09T18:16:39Z

Thank you for the feedback and kind words @alexis-brochec! I definitely should've added a bit more difficulty to the combat, that will be sure to come in later updates when we move the game to itch.io.

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-11T05:33:17Z

Thank you for the thorough review @stormburpee, it's much appreciated! We'll definitely be giving plenty more challenge and fleshing out the mechanics of the distinct creatures far more in the itch.io release.

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-11T05:35:17Z

Thank you for the kind words @lj-wei! Definitely quite proud of the work @familyneighbor put forward in making the creature and enemy designs for this jam.

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-14T00:31:17Z

Thank you for the feedback @bstabuu, and yes I would indeed say that robogirl designs are great, it was my main model contribution for the project and I am quite proud of the design. Glad you enjoyed the final boss designed by @familyneighbor as well, Much more variation to come between the various creatures in later builds!

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-14T00:32:30Z

Thank you for the kind words @orbitaldot! I was very proud of the design when I made it, definitely going to revise and improve it further in later builds.

Restoring Reparia by SerenityDev 2024-10-15T23:15:48Z

Thank you for the thorough review @buzzydev, I adore good feedback and you've provided some good points here. A lot of the issues discussed can be summed up by running out of time and these issues will be fixed in future updates.

You actually can switch which creature you throw, if you hit spacebar you can cycle through them, however with there being only minor differences between the creatures in this version I decided to avoid giving the player too much info on that as it would've just distracted them from everything else.

We'll definitely take notes of the comments you've made, thank you again for such an insightful review!

I always enjoy a platformer so frankly I had quite a fun time playing this. It's pretty rough in many aspects with the gravity being too high and the non-matching assets but overall I still enjoyed it. Overall it's a full game that has a clear ending, keep up the work and I definitely think you could make some fun platformers, great work finishing this in time for the jam!
