Interesting idea, hive mind aspect was pretty sick! felt super cool running and dashing around trying to dodge the hornets and hit them lmao, so overall really fun and sick game!

I really like the mechanic of controlling these tiny guys as well as controlling yourself at the same time, I think it has a lot of potential. Good job! :)

I love the main character design! Unfortunately i couldn't play too much since the game started lagging after 3 minutes, i assume it's because of the quantity of enemies.

firebender 2024-10-08 20:10

I loved the mood and fantasy of this game. Too bad it was lagging so bad near the end. I think the game would benefit a lot from having faster animations and controls on the player side. Good job overall!

It's an interesting idea, but I couldn't figure out how to use the minions to my advantage since usually I'd just get attacked by other hornets while trying to aim my minions to attack one target. Maybe if they had like a spin attack that didn't need to be aimed, it'd be easier to use them for combat. They would probably be interesting to use for puzzles.

Also, I liked the squishy jump/fall animations. They're a nice touch :)

Wish I could reply directly, but thanks for the comments so far! I unfortunately didn't have time to optimize everything, so some lag spikes can still occur. However, the game caps the number of spawns at a limit of 30 enemies, so the game wont break, but may need better hardware to avoid lagging.

Not sure what to do about faster controls for the player, outside of speeding up the minions more. I wanted to have the minions be slower and less effective than the main body, but I could see if that makes them somewhat unsatisfying to use outside of command mode.

Also, there is a spin attack that doesn't need to be aimed. Just right click!

Also also for anyone who reads this you can animation cancel by using Command Mode, lets you "bee" more agile! Haha!

Wonderful little arcade style game. Love the visuals in the models a lot, and appreciate the clear demonstration of the controls. The command ability is the best part of the game, moving the minions around and attacking with them is very fun. Definitely the main issue is the lag, even on my computer that can run things relatively well it started to lag around 2 minutes. Overall great work, I had fun!

I like the minion system in this one! would love to see more gameplay / mechanics that put them on a pedestal

joshua-reumann 2024-10-09 07:21

Nice gameloop :)

luckix 2024-10-09 07:27

Congrats for finishing your game mate! Very cool game you have here, I love the minions, they add something very unique!

I liked the game, it's addictive, but the bees seem to give in to you and it's easy to kill them, even when there are too many of them very easily. 8/10!

blazerker 2024-10-09 10:17

Valiant effort! I can see where the idea is going! The game would benefit from some sound, even very simple sound effects. Learning and getting better is the main goal! Keep it up!

thepiratenun 2024-10-10 00:48

Really cool! It took me a second to learn how to use the minions effectively, but once I got it I thought it was really interesting! Love the style of the character and the enemies, and the animations were a nice touch. It would be great to see this game with a bit more of a tutorial, and some audio as well, but I really enjoyed it! Nice work :)

nanolotl 2024-10-10 12:37

Some cool mechanics that I could see being very fun with a bit more polish. Command-mode especially. Good job.

stmate03 2024-10-10 12:38

I enjoyed the game, I eventually figured that the best strat is to never split and if I split recall immediately as every minion killed lost me max HP, a 1 man army approach, this game iy really funny and I even called it "wow somebody made silksong before it even released" because it has a very slight hollow knight feel to it for me (not me continually yelling SHAW! while killing hornets) well done! with some polish this can be a super fun game!

reyqwena 2024-10-10 12:38

First game with fighting mecanic I've seen and it is really cool

druven 2024-10-10 13:53

Felt great dashing around and hitting the hornets, minion system was cool and intuitive. Loved the PSX inspired graphics, and all the animations were fantastic. Game would benefit from sounds and some optimization would definitely help as I also experienced some framerate issues. Awesome effort for a solo dev though, well done!

jeiji 2024-10-12 00:07

fun game, you tried and fit a lot of mechanics into a small level, good job

nazariglez 2024-10-12 21:45

Loved the concept of splitting into minions! Great visuals and smooth movement. With some optimization and sound, it’ll be even better. Awesome job for your first Ludum Dare!

2024-10-12 21:57

I have the feeling this would work better if it was a shooter and if the minions were stationary turrets you can place down and pick up again.

The arena is nice, as well as the models and animations, tho everything could use more impact - it was hard to tell when I was hit or when I was hitting something.

And the minion mechanic felt quite underrepresented - I was unable to kill enemies with my minions or move the minions where I want them to be. If this was a shooter, I'd have a crosshair to point where they should go.

ciaranw 2024-10-13 21:43

Nice, cool idea and well done making a 3d game for your first LD! Quite a lot of work for one person, and the game was fun. I played through it a few times, I think I got my best score just using the minions as more health bar though, I found it was quite difficult to actually make use of them to kill the hornets (although spamming them down to quickly destroy a nest then picking them back up was quite successful). I think some simple sound and some form of progression to stop it just being an endless 'get as many points as possible' game would go a long way to make it feel higher quality. Nice entry! :)

skbadger 2024-10-13 22:02

Impressive 3d entry, really enjoy the little hornet damage and death animations. The actual concept is really interesting, a lot of mechanics on display for a game jam demo that I can really see building into something over a few levels/time to create more content. Congrats!

adam-gallina 2024-10-15 00:05

The mechanics were really well done! The movement felt snappy and responsive, and all of the attacks were pretty well telegraphed/dodgeable. I feel like the difficulty ramp could have been toned down a little bit, it felt like I barely figured out how to control everything and the map was already full of hornets, but it was a lot of fun moving my tiny creatures around while baiting enemies

captandrey 2024-10-17 21:47

Interesting concept! It was hard on the start. Usually i prefer short levels with clear goals, so you can get a sense of progress and master mechanics one by one.

fork-on-the-table-studios 2024-10-24 23:24

Absolutely nice little game for your first game jam, especially in 3D! A creative implementation of the hive mind, I really like your idea.
