LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

Sugar Shot by Anakiro 2015-04-20T19:20:00

The overall atmosphere is cute, but the game could use some bug fixing. I seem to have "won" the game (Unity-chan did a little dance), and then...nothing. I don't know whether I actually won, what happened to cause this, or how to restart the level. If the bugs get fixed and the player was given more information, this could be a cute little game.

Freeze Ray by Skulls 2015-04-20T19:54:00

The coolest thing about this game is the level design. The difficulty ramps up quickly as you go through the game, until you're carefully positioning groups of enemies so that you can jump onto one just before the other melts. It's not an easy game, but that's part of the draw. And of course, it's a perfect fit for the theme.

Underload by Taldius 2015-04-20T20:02:00

The game is hilarious, and that alone means it deserves a good rating. The vehicular damage is a cool touch, and the allure of a high score gives it potentially great replay value.

Backyard warfare by riktothepast 2015-04-22T21:31:00

It's a great concept, and controlling the RC car was fun. One change I would make are to attach a lens flare to the car and robots, and have the flares exclude all layers. This way, you can see where they are even when they're under the treehouse. Another way to do this would be to put a little icon on them, and have a second camera render these icons when the first one is finished. (Settings in Unity for the camera: "Don't clear", depth > the first camera, and only renders the layer the sprites are on).

Again, it's unique and fits the theme really well. Keep working on it.

Lord of Spiders by echa 2015-04-20T22:25:00

Was this really made in 3 days? Because damn, this is really ambitious. It doesn't quite match the theme, but the setting is interesting and making a hack and slash in 72 hours is not an easy task.

Forest Defense by atrodo 2015-04-20T19:39:00

It's a working tower defense game with an interesting ecology theme. I just wish I knew what "speed" and "rate" refer to. But otherwise, the game works pretty well, and if you like tower defense games, you might like this.

Cats Don't Kill People by blackcode 2015-04-20T22:32:00

I can see what you were trying to do, and I agree that it would have been fun if it were finished. It did fit the theme very well, though.

FINGERSLINGER by Mnemusyne 2015-04-20T19:42:00

If I had to pick my favorite Ludum Dare game so far, it would have to be this one. The art style! The clever variation of Rock Paper Scissors! The weapon that is indeed unconventional! It's simple and not *that* innovative, but does literally nothing wrong.

Cheeseburger (in Paradise) by Just_delete_it 2015-04-20T22:28:00

There's no link to your game, man. We can't play it!

The Potaco Anomaly by HeXoT 2015-04-20T19:15:00

A combination twin-stick shooter and tower defense game where you have to defend the ammo you need to survive. The gameplay idea is a lot cooler than you'd think from the joke game exterior, and I would love to play a fleshed-out version of this.

Ant Anarchy by valgriz 2015-04-20T20:09:00

This was better than I expected it to be. The time limit forces you to memorize the level as you uncover it until you can basically speedrun the entire thing. I just wish the difficulty ramped up more, because after 10 points things just get too easy. The exploding ants are indeed a very unconventional weapon.

Perdam et Creem by Hackingroelz 2015-04-22T23:40:00

I can't run it. The batch file doesn't work. "'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Press any key to continue"

Basketball Flight by merteor 2015-04-20T22:45:00

Oh hey, I've seen you on AGDG.

You need to make a full game out of this. There is so much potential in this basketball-throwing mechanic that it would be a waste if you didn't. There are a few technical problems though. The steadily decreasing framerate was already mentioned, but the character can double jump by jumping immediately after throwing the ball, and I'm not sure if that is a glitch or intentional. There's some collision detection problems, but I'm pretty sure the framerate's the cause of that. But those can be forgiven because you've come up with a genius idea for a platformer.

Unconventional Dungeon by Turkey 2015-04-22T23:35:00

Well, it's not a very pretty game. But the level design is complex and interesting, the controls work well, and there's plenty of boss battles. One thing I would change is to add the ability to buy health, because you get worn down easily.

Speechless by MonoS 2015-04-24T19:43:00

This is easily the most innovative game I've played here. Good work. Reading the tutorial is an absolute must, though.

Sliborg by Coconut Mage 2015-04-23T00:18:00

At least you made a game. Keep it up.

Poland space program by hate-marina 2015-04-22T23:42:00

I'm not sure if Polandball triple-jumping off the screen was a bug or not, but I don't care. 5/5.

Utensil Attack by TheBurningHat 2015-04-24T20:10:00

I've played tons of games in this jam where you attack with spoons, but only in this one do I actually feel like I'm throwing spoons. There's a nice variety of weapons, too. The banana hat is OP, though,

Holy Sheeit by SuperSquareBoy 2015-04-23T00:22:00

Nice and juicy visuals, unique weapon, good difficulty. It's shit!

Stop! In The Name Of The Law! by Slashee the Cow 2015-04-23T00:25:00

Very funny and the controls are easy to grasp. Original concept. I like it!

Stop! In The Name Of The Law! by Slashee the Cow 2015-04-23T00:26:00

Very funny and the controls are easy to grasp. Original concept. And while it may not be pretty, it works well.

Weapon of Darkness by Peni6 2015-04-20T19:30:00

It turns out that the Weapon of Darkness was not a peni6. 0/10.

Just kidding. I actually like the idea, of hiding between cover and using your EMP and gun strategically, but in order for a game like this to work, you need to know what the enemy can and cannot see. And here, you have no clue. This makes things pretty difficult.

Other than that, though, the EMP is an interesting weapon, the cover you can hide behind works perfectly, and it controls just fine.

PoP by Monochrome Bears 2015-04-20T19:48:00

I can't get it to run on Windows 8.1. I tried running it in Administrator mode, I set the compatibility to Windows XP, nothing. I double click the .exe, Windows asks me if I want the program to make changes to my computer, I say yes, then...nothing.

Nursery - Shuut them up! by dix 2015-04-20T19:35:00

I want to play this, but how exactly do you shoot the pacifiers? On Chrome, the left mouse button does nothing.

Jehova's Witness Simulator by Skipi 2015-04-21T12:41:00

I...the game actually convinced me that Hell is better than Heaven. I don't know what to believe anymore.

The game is prone to crashing randomly, and "ask about yourself" doesn't seem to do anything unless you get kicked out. But my only fault with the gameplay is that it's 100% luck-based. You don't know how well you're doing until you get kicked out.

Saving Bacon by hrd_games 2015-04-21T12:23:00

I was expecting an average tower defense, but this is smarter than the average bear. It has a pretty decent pathfind system, and will try to go around bales of hay instead of breaking them down. Combined with the low health of the items you can place, this makes the game pretty difficult, and I never once got the bear to stop eating my house, but it also stands out from similar games. The dynamic camera is a cool touch.

PROTIP: You're gonna be tempted to build a solid line of hay. Don't, because the bear will just charge right through it. Instead, place hay and mud randomly on the map so the bear will waste its turn trying to go around them.

USB Warrior by DraKlaW 2015-04-21T12:42:00

Couldn't run it on Windows 8.1. Wanted "libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll".

USB Warrior by DraKlaW 2015-04-21T12:54:00

It no longer throws that error, but nothing happens when I click the EXE. I tried the usual tricks (running in admin mod, and setting the compatibility to XP and Vista) to no result.

Unconventionality by Creative Sectors 2015-04-21T14:18:00

The soundtrack is really good. Easily the game's best feature. I also liked the models of the enemies.

I'm not entirely sure it fits the theme, because the combat is a pretty standard Dragon Quest style RPG. Like, what makes a Moon Sword functionally different from an ordinary one? I've only played five minutes of it though. There were no bugs, but a handful of typos ("mistery" instead of "mystery").

An unconventional Factory by BeardaNeerz 2015-04-21T12:45:00

oh god what is going on i am not good with computer

Cosmo's Apprentice by Gametery 2015-04-20T19:07:00

Wow, this is one hard game. I only got a score of 2500, but I plan on improving it.

The idea is perfect for quick little arcade sessions. I think lot of people will criticize the game because all 5 elements work the same way, but that added complexity wouldn't help the game at all. It's about efficiently switching between weapons and killing robots as fast as possible while trying not to die. The clock bonuses give you an incentive to actually explore the level rather than farm the spawn points, which is clever. The jetpack controls are flawless and I didn't see any bugs.

However, at the end of the day, you are a guy with a gun. This isn't your average shooter, but the weapon is still very conventional. It's a shame too, because I did enjoy the gameplay.

Super Nee-Wah by Sutivu 2015-04-23T12:44:00

I don't have someone else to play this with, so I played against myself. It seems like something that would be a blast to play with friends.

MECHAHORN by xtty 2015-04-23T12:41:00

It's funny and looks great, and it's rare to see a LD game with an actual storyline. It would be nice if the enemies had less HP, though.

The Heist by blaster391 2015-04-24T18:54:00

I ended up playing this for half an hour in one sitting, and my final score was $5,577.

I agree with the others about the controls. There's no reason NOT to use the person you just hacked into, especially since they die after 6 seconds. Switching to an enemy and aiming should be automatic. Otherwise, I really like the game.

PROTIP: All enemies have only 6 bullets, so you can sometimes bait them into wasting all of theirs by forcing them to fire at walls or a hacked enemy. As long as they're actually out of bullets, you can walk right past them.

Waste Of War by EsirInGame 2015-04-21T14:23:00

Oh boy, this theme is going to be controversial.

The gameplay has potential, but it's very, very hard to get to the stones and use them to block mines. You don't get any at the start of the game, and you have no clue where the mines are until they kill you. I'm not sure how to fix it, though. Not bad overall, though!

x100x by x100x 2015-04-22T15:40:00

What Yoon said. Also, I had no idea that the game's name was Chicken Tosser until I downloaded the link.

It's not bad. I like how enemies are destroyed if you run into them, so you don't have to worry about them taking all of your health at once.

Sten the Keyboard Warrior by Peatuno 2015-04-22T15:31:00

It doesn't 100% fit the theme, since the keyboard is basically just a gun, and like frokes said, you don't take much damage. But other than that, it's a fun little game that's very easy to figure out and bug-free.

PROTIP: Get the Steroid upgrade as soon as possible.

Pumpkin & the moles by Korial 2015-04-21T14:37:00

The game has good graphics and sound, but the game does not tell you how to grow a vegetable. This makes the game impossible, because the character cannot jump over enemies high enough to get past them.

Cocktail Ninja by JoJoV69 2015-04-20T17:56:00

I got it to run. I'm using Windows 8.1.

The concept of the game is hilarious, but I wasn't able to get that far in it, because I didn't know how to jump over or duck the spinning knives. Sorry.

Sword To A Gun Fight? I Like A Pillow by GiraffePencils 2015-04-21T18:13:00

It's a pretty cool concept that fits the theme pretty well. My old problem is that it's hard to tell when you're in front and when you're in back. I spent a minute wondering why I couldn't hit an enemy, and why it wouldn't shoot back.

Secret Weapons Factory! by spin-down 2015-04-24T19:27:00

You should have allowed people to rate the game on graphics. I thought it looked pretty nice.

I enjoyed it once I figured out what to do. I'm not sure how to save my researchers though, which seems to be the thing that gives you a game over. The writing is very funny.

FocalPoint by Killnetic 2015-04-24T22:26:00

Wow. 5/5 across the board for the creative concept and excellent visuals. I am actually jealous that I didn't come up with this concept myself.

Pigeon Sniper by nutcrack 2015-04-24T19:38:00

This is actually the second game I've played on here that's about birds pooping. I'd rank this as equally good as Burd Turd. Good job.

Pinata game by BottledZebra 2015-04-21T18:32:00

Nothing happens when I click the game EXE. Running Windows 8.1

Burd Turd by thumbgarden 2015-04-20T17:59:00

This works great as a twisted parody of Flappy Bird, but the spike-walls on the left give it an actually cool gameplay twist.

Also, what the hell did that bird eat?

Shop 'Till They Drop by ratheronfire 2015-04-24T18:58:00

It took me a bit to figure out what was going on, but I had fun with it. EGG IS BEST WEAPON< BEANS ARE FOR CASUALS WHO CAN"T AIM.

Coats The Mod by LuckyCassette 2015-04-22T15:18:00

This is fun, even if you can't talk to most of the NPCs yet. The concept is hilarious and the graphics and sound are very well done. I'm still trying to work out how to beat the various enemies quickly (Underages seem to be vulnerable to dislikes), as well as how to not get my shit kicked in by Anonymous.

Overall it reminds me of Segagaga.
