LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Limbo Runner by jk5000 2021-04-28T18:43:36Z

I'm pretty bad at it, but as a whole it's a very cohesive experience between the audio/visuals and the gameplay. Looks super polished, and definitely stands out in a sea (hehe) of games in caves and water.

TRENCH by dirkinz 2021-04-27T21:02:52Z

Deceptively simple game. Definitely had to think about some of the puzzles. The game can feel a little unresponsive/sluggish at times, especially when doing things like moving in a straight line.

Project Orpheo by zondarg 2021-04-27T03:38:59Z

Nice game! The movement feels great -- kind of reminds me of some NES era games. Background music is incredible too, as was the opening sequence.

Clear the system! by adjo 2021-04-27T21:08:30Z

fun game, and I'm impressed by the procedural generation!

Dwarven Delver by cavedens 2021-04-25T21:42:47Z

It wasn't immediately clear that the goal was to go towards the bottom of the screen -- I was waiting for some sort of portal to appear after digging that would bring me to the next level. However, once I figured that out, it was pretty fun! The music and sound effects are pretty charming, as is the animation on the player.

Do you think it might be a good idea to show the player where gems/mushrooms/pickaxes are in advance? I think mushrooms are sometimes visible, but only if they're behind a stone block... giving the player this information in advance might encourage a little more strategy. Maybe if they're within a handful of tiles or something?

Madness Inc. by NoelOskar 2021-04-26T01:39:33Z

very fun! last boss gave me a decent bit of trouble. hard to sight read but really rewards knowing mechanics. very cohesive visual/audio style, and feels like a complete experience. Had this been slightly longer and released in the heyday of flash it would have been a hit x)

Divide to go Deeper by JafCraze 2021-04-26T03:12:09Z

the level transition is really well done. audio in general is a definite strong suit. it's a little strange that the level doesn't auto restart once a ball 'explodes', given that it seems impossible to complete once that happens.

i had fun trying to make the balls collide with each other :)

Cyber Runner by jj2oo2 2021-04-26T00:49:24Z

Obviously incomplete as your itch.io page states, but the outrun visuals are stunning and very cohesive. The existing gameplay reminds me of those old school 3-d shmups

I'm So Deep by liammasters 2021-04-25T21:27:23Z

seems really polished -- the music is nice and the animation of your guy rolling out made me laugh out loud when I first saw it (in combination with the awful 'poem' I wrote). However, after a handful of attempts, I can't seem to figure out how to get a score higher than zero..

CubeMiner by Coolp 2021-04-27T21:07:38Z

It's definitely lacking polish, but the rest is pretty fun. I noticed some small issues, such as the price of the first mining upgrade not matching the text on the button (button said 10 coins, but I think it took around 15), and I couldn't seem to move into squares that I had just mined, and had to back up before going.

One Deep Fall by laurenloco 2021-04-25T22:14:42Z

pretty fun! the goal is immediately clear, the player character is really cute, and the music/sounds are fairly impressive to me.

However, unless I just got incredibly lucky, there's a little safe spot in the center.. once you find it, you can take your hand off the mouse and just watch. I'd also consider offsetting the character to be a little higher on the screen.

Pix'in' by DancesWE 2021-04-28T15:19:39Z

you've got a solid base going here. super crazy you did that all in c++.. i'm really impressed. and code quality/appearance is really nice at a glance!

Outvoyage by jamr 2021-04-26T00:16:17Z

@liammasters thanks for the feedback! I definitely wasn't able to tune difficulty exactly how I wanted.. it's very noticable from the absolute monstrous amount of asteroids at the very start. And I wasn't brave enough to experiment with sound x) I've never done audio work before and I figured no attempt would be kinder than a crappy one, haha.

Outvoyage by jamr 2021-04-26T00:17:48Z

@cavedens thanks! yes, it's definitely more than a little clunky... it kind of plays like a 3d drift racer in a way? I wasn't able to tune it exactly how I wanted, but i'm definitely proud of how things ended up looking. Everything from the asteroids to the planets is textured with the same single noise texture :)

Outvoyage by jamr 2021-04-26T02:12:56Z

@pixelportalz i'm flattered, but I am currently a full time student and will soon be a full time desk worker :) and yes, the game does accelerate based on a logarithmic curve, so it is infinite but will 'cap' out for most intents and purpses eventually

Outvoyage by jamr 2021-04-26T02:13:22Z

@cheese-man thank you! i'm shaking in anticipation for the big fat 0 on the audio section :)

Outvoyage by jamr 2021-04-26T02:22:24Z

@sweer totally fair! i didn't do much in the way of making the controls 'feel' responsive, though it might help to imagine your mouse as the joystick of a plane or something similar. I did make the asteroids spawn in psuedo predetermined patterns but I didn't really do a ton of testing, so totally possible the game presents you with unpassable situations.

Outvoyage by jamr 2021-04-29T19:09:07Z

@nyxkn that's actually a really good point -- it does take a long time for anything to actually happen. At the time I was thinking that it'd be good for people who hadn't played yet to learn the controls a little, but it does become very annoying on repeat plays.

Outvoyage by jamr 2021-04-29T23:27:10Z

@cogcomp definitely. I wanted to have some sort of cockpit where the joystick would move in relation to your mouse, but I couldn't get it looking right in time so I scrapped it altogether. Thanks for the feedback!

Nail-it! by owca 2021-04-25T21:53:02Z

Managed to get this after a few minutes messing about. chrome_2021-04-25_16-51-02.png

Really fun. Feels like a complete product -- similar to all of those piano tiles mobile games, but more thought out.

we don't have permission to the google drive link :( I think you need to set it to public?

Fall by Mika314 2021-04-27T03:14:14Z

pretty cute and fun game! because there isn't a visible judging zone, it wasn't immediately obvious if I had to actually time the button, or just be in that 'column' before the note passes, but it wasn't too hard to figure out eventually. pretty hilarious watching the player ragdoll back and forth, and it was oddly hypnotic to watch the rats and all. nice!

Go Deep or Die Trying by JML Games 2021-04-27T03:18:47Z

Cool entry! Art and audio was well done, especially the theme. Game was fairly challenging -- level design definitely rewarded multiple attempts. I think the controls were a little awkward though; I don't see why picking up had to be a two button operation, especially when one of the buttons used is used with a very separate action.
