The graphics and lighting are very cool. It could be a bit more challenging to stay engaging and some audio would go a long way. Overall nice job!

cavedens 2021-04-25 23:58

Very cool look. A bit hard to navigate but love the look of everything

jamr 2021-04-26 00:16

@liammasters thanks for the feedback! I definitely wasn't able to tune difficulty exactly how I wanted.. it's very noticable from the absolute monstrous amount of asteroids at the very start. And I wasn't brave enough to experiment with sound x) I've never done audio work before and I figured no attempt would be kinder than a crappy one, haha.

jamr 2021-04-26 00:17

@cavedens thanks! yes, it's definitely more than a little clunky... it kind of plays like a 3d drift racer in a way? I wasn't able to tune it exactly how I wanted, but i'm definitely proud of how things ended up looking. Everything from the asteroids to the planets is textured with the same single noise texture :)

cavedens 2021-04-26 00:34

@jamr definitely something to be proud of. Keep up the great work :)

elmando2333 2021-04-26 01:33

It's a great idea to explore the depths of the universe! I always like to try to hit floating debris~

pixelportalz 2021-04-26 01:37

Really like the overall feeling, I felt like I was on the brink of something big happening. Music would add a lot (I'm a musician and would love to work together). Does it accelerate indefinitely or was it just my impression of acceleration?

I really think the idea of a "voyage simulator" kicks ass.

cheese-man 2021-04-26 01:45

The silence is a bit overbearing but the idea and execution of the game is amazing. I love how the movement is delayed so it takes a while to move out of the way.

scidev 2021-04-26 01:52

It is quite a fun and addictive game the difficulty curve is quite nice, it is easy to get into and keep playing it, but it starts a little slow and the motion lags quite far behind the input. Other than that, you have created a very good looking and fun game which has you coming back for more.

It's strangely mesmerizing going towards those differently colored planets. The asteroids appear small but as you hurtle towards them they reveal themselves to be of epic proportions!

I had a lot of fun with this game. I have a harder time than normal replaying it since I don't see a goal other than self assigned ones (get to the [certain colored] planet). After spending the 10 minutes retrying to get to the blue or the red planet that I saw in the distance, I won.

This game is really cool though and I do like the steering mechanics.

jamr 2021-04-26 02:12

@pixelportalz i'm flattered, but I am currently a full time student and will soon be a full time desk worker :) and yes, the game does accelerate based on a logarithmic curve, so it is infinite but will 'cap' out for most intents and purpses eventually

jamr 2021-04-26 02:13

@cheese-man thank you! i'm shaking in anticipation for the big fat 0 on the audio section :)

sweer 2021-04-26 02:18

I did not like turning in this game, it felt uninintuitive, and I felt like I didn't control much, Once I got to around 50k speed, I felt like even if I started dodging an asteroid once it was spawned, it was entirely up to luck if I would survive or not.

jamr 2021-04-26 02:22

@sweer totally fair! i didn't do much in the way of making the controls 'feel' responsive, though it might help to imagine your mouse as the joystick of a plane or something similar. I did make the asteroids spawn in psuedo predetermined patterns but I didn't really do a ton of testing, so totally possible the game presents you with unpassable situations.

eboatwright 2021-04-26 02:31

The graphics are really cool, and I like how the camera flies away when you hit something. XD Really cool submission!

noeloskar 2021-04-26 02:48

I really enjoyed the visuals, the effects such as camera flying away are really cool, though the gameplay itself could be worked on, player really lacks any control over the spaceship, if you want to use mouse, it should lock to the middle, so you can actually look in diffrent directions, like in all fps games, but i personally think it would play better on keyboard, also the rules weren't really clear on the start, but that could be caused by my confusion with controls, controls aside, the game is really cool difficulty curve is pretty good, and the mood too

theseusinabottle 2021-04-26 03:31

Highly hypnotic watching the rocks fly by once you reach a certain speed. Also I don't know if its just its intentional or just a quirk of the engine but the sort of slow fluid popping that the rocks have where they seem to oh most appear from the black like its ink is really awesome.

jafcraze 2021-04-26 11:22

I didn't think floating rocks could be so mesmerising! Some ambient sound or atmospheric music would be nice but I think the silence helped to reinforce the vastness and loneliness of space. The text at the bottom could be a little bigger or brighter. Also, you could have a label like "Distance to next planet: 1.2 au" so players would know how far they were from their next target.

zondarg 2021-04-26 11:37

Nice graphics, I liked the lighting effects and the amount of space debris. Steering is a bit difficult and feels sluggish, but manageable. A bit of low key ambient music would really help enhance the mood of the game! Good work!

jj2oo2 2021-04-26 17:26

Nice asthetic. Felt a bit PSX era without the dither. I couldn't help but steer straight into a rock to see the collision event but was fun avoiding too. well done!

nyxkn 2021-04-29 14:01

Pretty cool! Who doesn't love flying through asteroid belts? Too bad there's no sounds. I would have tried more times if reaching the asteroids didn't take so long!

jamr 2021-04-29 19:09

@nyxkn that's actually a really good point -- it does take a long time for anything to actually happen. At the time I was thinking that it'd be good for people who hadn't played yet to learn the controls a little, but it does become very annoying on repeat plays.

cogcomp 2021-04-29 19:21

Nice looking game. Love the feeling of zooming past that first planet then smacking head first into an asteroid  Well done! Some sound effects or music would've been nice, but I think I would've like some kind of navigational support like a cross in the middle of the screen or the bars of a cockpit to get a feeling for the size of the space ship.

jamr 2021-04-29 23:27

@cogcomp definitely. I wanted to have some sort of cockpit where the joystick would move in relation to your mouse, but I couldn't get it looking right in time so I scrapped it altogether. Thanks for the feedback!

schuster 2021-04-30 00:03

Cool idea and nice ascetic, felt like a PS1 era game.

alexhall 2021-04-30 00:16

Game has a relaxing, almost hypnotic feel. I like it as is. My first reaction was the welcome addition of sounds to enhance this feeling. But in my opinion, don't overclutter it with mechanics, challenge, progression. It has its own virtue already. Which I really did not expect when it started. At first it seemed bland, but then it clicked. Good job :)

sentmoraap 2021-05-01 13:06

I like the PS1-like graphics, but there could be more stuff like stars instead of a plain black background. You made the asteroids spawn in a way you can't "cheat" by moving the mouse far away in the corners. I would have liked sounds.
