Neat concept with cute graphics and nice music! Gameplaywise I would have only wished there were some checkpoints on the way, I think in the second last level I got an unfortunate reset. Also the scroll frames were sometimes in an awkward position. But these are only nitpics, overall cool entry!

Thank you @oadt ! I messed up a little bit with the scroll frames on one or two levels, thanks again for your comment !

Fun platformer with a great artstyle! Sometimes the screen limits were in awkward places, I almost wish the camera just followed the player entirely. But, that is such a tiny issue.

Thanks for the comment @ralian, the player could take every tile with him if I let the camera follow him, but I admit I failed a little bit on my camera placement
I really liked the rotation mechanic - but at some point I did feel like I really only needed two squares to pass any puzzle. I would have liked to see some sort of limitation on how many rotations I could get in a screen so I couldn't just brute force my way through every level.
At the first screen, I thought there was a space to go up, but then it was a dead end. Would have been really cool to at least see a secret there.
The platforming felt good and overall the game was very creative! good work!
The block manipulation was a nice mechanic. Controls were simple but gave enough options to move the blocks. As said above the camera jump was an issue occasionally seeing the blocks below, but a minor issue.

@gwen-dekker Thank you for your comment and playing the game, I'm sorry for the "secret room" that was not even intended but still a good proposition. To be honest I wanted to make different tile set and physics based tiles but I ran out of time + was too exhausted to program anything new yesterday. Appreciate your feedbacks

Nice graphics and quite nice puzzle logic. It only took few levels to get hang of it. Also managed to push the wizard few time inside the block. Should it "fail" the level on those situations?
kaimon
2023-10-02 17:41
@denvil There is no "technical fail" in the levels according to my playing testing, if you stuck the magician inside a block, you can pop it off the same way, by the way this is not intented at all but it can occurs (don't know how to use godot physics well for the moment) Thanks for the feedback !
I think the idea is good but I do have a few issues. Keep in mind that I did have fun (finished it all) when playing and these are my thoughts.
When you are adding resets (through death in this case) it often gets frusterating for people who can't do everything perfectly and especially when its been a while since the place they would go back to. A platformer that handles them well is celeste, it give you a checkpoint each time you change a level. In this case you just have one open level so you can't easily do this. I see two ways this could have been done, adding checkpoint flags that change from one color to another when you touch them and each 'puzzle' your camera moves freely but locked to the 'puzzle' until you finish and reach the next one.
Another issue with the camera and that makes me think option 2 is the better one is that sometimes in the midst of one puzzle you'll change where your camera is. The issue comes in when you have a vertical transition and you need to jump, you just have to hope your platform is in the right place and that you can jump to it.
The game is very much not a puzzler, the only times my brain actively tried after I was taught the mechanic was the final jump in the final level. The ways to improve the puzzle aspecs I thought up are, changing the rotation area, not letting the blocks go through walls, and limited area that you can use your rotation magic. While I think that it could be a good puzzle game it's not, there just is not enough thought put into it other than the same repeated motions to movethe blocks
I dont quite see the theme other than its in a cave which is limited, I am probably just not seeing but it feels like its just a platformer that you made.
My feedback isnt all negative, I really love the art and art style though its very charming, and I think the audio is good too. Was fun!

@normality Thank you for this deep feedback, I understand your frustration, especially about checkpoints, I really had to make them and I know this is not difficult to do but I was tired and a little bit lazy I guess. Same for the camera, I saw it, knew it and still didn't change it because of time/laziness.
I agree with you with all you said and appreciate that you took time to write it, for the theme, on top of the cave, their is the main mechanic which is limited in space, if I had more tile/set I think that could have been better to embrace the theme, I'll make it clearer for the next jam I do !
Interesting concept! Jumping while rotating the plattform is absolutely nerve wrecking. Nice combination of tactics and execution! Well Done!

the turning of the blocks took a bit to get used to, but other then that this was a fun to play game. nice job!

Very polished and complete package - especially for a compo entry.
My only major nitpick is that some of the levels felt more like a test of finess than a puzzle. In these levels, it was maybe a bit too clear what you need to achieve and there were too many possible solutions to it. And this means that the player just has to execute a long series of turns to get on top of a platform etc. I was left hoping for more obstacles or restrictions in these levels to keep me thinking.
But overall, this was one of the best entries I have played thus far!

This was a very creative little puzzle game. You can really notice in the game that you scoped well, since everything feels rather complete. The art is nice, there is fitting sound effects and moody atmospherical music, and there is a lot of polish in the form of particles and decorative plants etc. I really liked it! :D
The puzzles were also very cool, but not very challenging to me. Especially because you could basically overcome any challenge with just two blocks (although it could become a bit tedious). Perhaps some way to force the player to think on where to place certain blocks would have been interesting? That said, I did really like the puzzle mechanics and I think there is a lot to explore there.
All in all, really great job! I actually enjoyed this a lot :D

Very fun and clever. Some of the screen transitions were a bit uncomfortable and I kind of didn't like that 3 tile jumps were just barley possible as I could hit them reliably enough that I felt it was worth trying them but not so reliably as to avoid death.

I managed to clear it!
I loved the innovative yet instantly understandable game mechanics, and it was super fun right up to the end! The smoothness of the rotation controls and the fact that each stage wraps up quickly made me feel it's a well-crafted game that never gets old.
Additionally, the pixel art graphics and the calm BGM set a really great atmosphere that I got immersed in. The walking effect is also impressive.
One small note: in the Controls instructions where it says "Q and D to move," I think it might be "A and D" that's correct..

Very cute little puzzle game! The idea is very cool and the aesthetics are great. (It's just so... simple, yet elegant.
Even though I did lowkey ruin the puzzle elements eventually by just standing on top of a block, jumping while rotating, and basically riding those to the finish (in the levels where possible), I still enjoyed it hehe. Did you have any potential extra mechanics in mind? Just curious!
Thanks for your submission!

I enjoyed the block moving mechanic wish I could rotate them a bit faster but the aesthetics are clean and the game is very easy to understand.

@2thegamechanger Thank you !
@jcmonkey Appreciate the comment, thanks !
@nash Thanks a lot ! I had idea to make it more "puzzle" but didn't manage to throw it inside :(
@wuppos Thanks ! I'm not really an artist, but i'll try to make more assets next time !
@ackbad Thank you for your comment i appreciate it and take it to note
@zundou Good job ! Sorry for the controls, i'm a native french and we use ZQSD buttons instead of WASD one
@kepsert The thing you talk avec jump over a tile was intended, and prove that you have some skills ! I certainly had to make it less possible in order to prevent it too much. I mainly thhinked about physhics-based tiles and different form tiles, on top of fixing tiles being able to float over the ground/ceiling. I may be making it after the rating round (in order to improve my Godot skills mainly)
@ascenial Thanks for your comment !

Solid game with clean art, especially given that it's a compo submission. I wished that I didn't have to separately select the boxes before rotating them because it slowed the pace down on some of the levels where I had solutions but had to spend more time than I wanted to implement them. There are also camera issues, but other people here have commented on them. I enjoyed and played through to the end though!
Such an original game, I love how with a simple mechanics you can make such cool puzzles
Really creative with the rotation mechanic, don't know if I've seen something like that before. The art is also amazing. Good job and congratulations on your game!!

I appreciated the simplicity of the rotate mechanic, but unfortunately without additional constraints, you can stand on a block and move along with it pretty easily for most of the game. I didn't love the music, but it did fit the style of the game. The retro 2D aesthetic is lovely, and I noted you said you weren't really an artist, but I think you're wrong!

I love it, that's a pretty cool gameplay mechanic, and the puzzles are well designed.
Some leads for improvement: - It's a bit frustrating to lose the game at the end of a level because of a small mistake, and having to start again with puzzle chunks that were already solved. Maybe it would be better to have smaller levels, but more of them instead. - I found the inputs to be a bit confusing (I mean they were very clear but for some reason my brain decided to work differently). Many times I wanted to "release" the area, and intuitively I clicked the right mouse button for that. Many times I fell to my death because of this. Maybe something like left to select, right to release and space to rotate would feel better? - I loved the idea of having to jump and rotate the area at the same time, to create a new platform in the middle of the jump. I think you could have built more puzzles using that mechanic, going crazier! - Again, maybe it's me, but I would have preferred that there is momentum when jumping. I like to press jump and release the left/right inputs, assuming that this movement will continue while in the air.
Other than that, the visuals are beautiful, all animations felt pretty smooth and on point, and the music fit perfectly!
Great game!
It's a very creative and relaxing puzzle game. The mechanics are very easy to understand and the graphics are cute. The rotating animations are smooth and I liked solving each puzzle to slowly carry my character over to the goal.
I think you should add checkpoints, dying near the end of a level and having to restart the whole thing can be pretty frustrating. I also think the left click to activate the rotation box is unnecessary, the controls would feel a lot smoother if you removed the clicking requirement. I would've also liked a way to rotate the blocks counterclockwise as well.
Overall, it's a very good game and I managed to beat it. Nice job!

the platforming feels amazing and the concept of rotating the tiles is also very nice, i found it a bit punitive to restart from the beginning of the level but that just me nitpicking. Awesome game!

I think the main mechanic of the game was very unique and innovative. I had a lot of fun playing it and I really liked the art style and the audio. The game had a really nice mood to it. I do think the main mechanic needs some way to prevent the player from just using two blocks to solve the puzzles. There was at least one level where I was given a number of blocks (I'm guessing I was supposed to build a staircase) but I was used to only using the two so I grabbed two and ignored the other ones. That said, the mechanic is solid and there's a lot of room to build on that like blocks that can only be landed on once or blocks that can only be moved X times before becoming static or something. It's a really creative mechanic and it was a fun game to play, really great job!

@rcxa I appreciate your comment a lot, thanks !
@haydads Sorry for the cam ! And thanks for playing my game :D
interesting concept, but the controls could be improved to just having one click to rotate blocks under cursor. and as @rcxa mentioned, two blocks are enough once you figure out how to use them. still [i had fun playing it](https://tube.tchncs.de/w/hkGynPzBhUuUhD8LNwPYbi)! nice ambience too

Really sweet idea. Clever game, well made, with good graphics and amazing music. The level design could be a bit better I guess. I feel like the game could be more puzzly but currently the puzzle is a bit too easy (though it's not about difficulty itself, so rather, no new ideas are squeezed out of the core gameplay) and platforming element is not exactly there either. Feels like this game is not sure what it wants to be. With a bit more focus, this would be one of my favourites this LD I'm sure, the way it's now, it's just really freakin' good
This is so cool, such a interesting mechanic! Awesome job for a first Godot game too, I never would have guessed that you just learned Godot from how good this game is :D

very good game. i really like the art style and the animation, it's really good. however when the character is near the corner of the camera it's really annoying because you cant see what is outside of the view. you could simplify the controls by just using left mouse button or use left button to rotate counter-clockwise and the right one to rotate clockwise. overall good job!
I thought the mechanics were fantastic. I didn't understand where the theme was, but I had fun. I find the camera too jerky when I climb. The reset button in the left corner bothered me, I accidentally clicked it twice, the second time I gave up because of it. But I went through some stages, it would be nice to have an accountant so I know which stage I reached. / Yes, aseprite is very good, isn't it, I use it sometimes, although hand-drawn graphics in my case always predominate.
