I liked the vibe and the idea

brandon-campbell 2023-05-01 05:09

Hey I'm really wanting to figure this game out because it looks super cool. I'm not able to get anything to happen though. Are you supposed to just add enough thrusters to get the cube to move? Do the grav engines lift the cube off the ground? How many generators do you need to power a thruster? If you get back to me I'll give it another play.

baknik 2023-05-01 05:13

I really like the idea of a city builder in multiple dimensions and directions besides just a flat surface. I'd love to see this expanded further.

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-01 05:17

@brandon-campbell yeah it's a bit confusing sorry haha. You need to add grav engines to get it off the ground and then thrusters to make it move but you need quite a few and you will need to power them up enough otherwise their efficiency will go down

brandon-campbell 2023-05-01 05:49

@peterfiftyfour K I just gave it another try. I didn't notice the tooltips the first time around. I love this game!!! Best game I've seen in the Jam so far. Very creative and I'm impressed at how much you did in such a short time.

rjerez192 2023-05-01 06:40

I like the idea. Using the sun direction for the solar panels is very clever. At first I was only extracting metal and adding more power, maybe there could be another mechanic for that part. Once you start adding thrust it becomes really fun.

nazorus 2023-05-01 11:06

Had a lot of fun just build stuff on my cube, and it felt pretty satisfying when it finally started lifting off the ground! I wish the lighting didn't make it so dark under the cube, it was hard to see what I was building there.

kylethecoder 2023-05-01 11:08

Conceptually pretty good! Definitely a bit confusing, would be nice to have sort of a tutorial showing some stuff that works, or basically works - like predefined cubes that you just have to add a couple pieces and it fixes it. But I understand there's not much time, and Unity certainly doesn't make mass-production very easy! So to have gotten this far is excellent!

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-01 11:12

@nazorus Yeah it's so dark! I kinda like it - I tried having a 'lighthouse' building but it looked like crap so I didn't include it. But yeah some kind of structure like that might be interesting. Or perhaps have some structures that need to be in the dark sometimes?

teadrinker 2023-05-01 11:23

Interesting idea, nice mood and music/sound! I managed to fly the cube past the end of the world, but I guess that's not the destination (do I need to fly around and look for it?)

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-01 11:28

@teadrinker aaactualy the destination is not implemented yet, I didn't have time. it's more like a sandbox atm. But off the map basically means you won :D

pauljs 2023-05-01 11:31

Really clever and innovative idea, really love it! Nothing more to say! Maybe missing a small tuto/goal well explain in the game, but aside from that, it's a very solid entry, congrats!

elementary 2023-05-01 11:32

I don't know if I'm missing something, but where should the cube be moved to? Otherwise pretty unique and interesting idea for a game.

buni 2023-05-01 11:35

Sorry, I didn't really get what I was supposed to do even after reading the help tab. Maybe you could have added an explanation or a tutorial.

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-01 11:36

@elementary @buni sorry you're right it's not very clear lol but thanks for trying it out!

freamdev 2023-05-01 11:58

Took me a moment to figure out how things interact with eachother (naturally didn't read the help page) but once I got into it it was quite fun!

remus 2023-05-01 16:44

After a minute or so I go the games idea and it became very nice. The play with solar panels and shade is very nice. The music is very fitting and nice, I like the sound effects as well. There was a spot I couldn't build in for no reason and that annoyed me a bit. Very nice mechanics, lot's of building all with tooltips. Very thought out, good job! The camera is a bit annoying that I cannot pan or something but it works I guess. :D Reminds me of factorio and dyson sphere and I love those games. Very good in my opinion overall!

thomasvenner 2023-05-01 20:07

I feel that the game is missing a bit of feedback when extracting metal. You get how to gain metal by trial and error, but I don't really understand what is happening

zenbreaker 2023-05-01 20:19

Really nice idea and good prototype. Would be nice to have some challenges though, like reached a certain height in some time. Also missing would be the force applied to the cube, so one can see when enough is enough, and at which point we begin accelerating. At the start it feels a bit useless to build grav engines, other than that great concept, love it.

tumblingpuffin 2023-05-01 20:25

Really cool idea. I had a lot of fun figuring out how to get the cube to move.

frelude 2023-05-02 07:39

Original idea of management game x physics game. Some visual information on energy will be welcomed, it's not obvious that the more you have generator the more your stuffs are 'powerfull'. With some goal, and way to control the cube, to go to other resources, etc... it could a great experience.

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-02 08:35

@frelude thanks for trying it out. It definitely needs some more helpful info or at least a tutorial haha

wild-babou 2023-05-02 13:48

Wow very cool idea. The atmosphere was fun and unique. The only problems is that it maybe needs more of a tutorial. However the approach of just trying stuff and exploring could also be a fun choose.

weirdbitgames 2023-05-02 14:09

It looks really complicated from the screenshots but thankfully it wasn't! It's a shame you didn't have time to program an end or a destination!

obe-dot 2023-05-02 14:41

I really like the way you used the theme!

frabjous-studios 2023-05-02 15:18

This seems like a really innovative take on the theme, but I had a hard time understanding what to do because I couldn't figure out how to rotate the camera. Also it was very easy to use up all my metal at the beginning and never get it back. :T

Love the music and overall vibe. I could definitely see this idea becoming a thing.

space-games 2023-05-02 15:20

I like how it's a game about cubes and it takes place on a cube :)

pfeyffer 2023-05-02 15:20

I found a mouse and was able to play. If you don't know what all the components do it is really hard to figure it out. Some kind of visual feedback would be helpful. But once you get the hang of it, this game rocks!

stepan-mulenok 2023-05-02 15:20

I really like these kind of meditative games!

le-goss-du-net 2023-05-02 15:22

I on't have a mouse so playing is very hard but dude that's incredible ! Graphics and sound are inspiring and the gestion is incredible ! good job man !

python-b5 2023-05-02 15:26

I think a tutorial of some kind would have been useful---I found the game a bit confusing at first, but it was fun to build stuff once I figured it out more. It's a really cool concept, and it would be cool to see an improved post-jam version!

rjdrag 2023-05-02 15:28

Ok, this was solid, and a great take on the theme. I really wish I could see my total resources and power, but that's not totally necessary, (as the buildings show a light when active.) It's pretty funny, and actually kind of ideal it's a cube. It was fun to watch the cube finally come to life. lol.gif

big-cow 2023-05-02 15:51

Took me a while to figure things out by reading the comments, but it was worth it! I haven't played many 'factory' type games but I like how it's implemented here. Working around the surface of a 3D object felt very novel.

tomtomgome 2023-05-02 15:53

Very cool concept and very cool mood ! This is a great game to play and relax. It totally deserves more attention to be completed as a full game.

I think people already brought up what is missing : mostly stats for each component

cylvlpak 2023-05-02 16:26

Interesting idea and mechanics. Make the Cube move with the logic of posturing buildings. It's hard to figure out right away, but once you get into it, you get somewhere.)

roblaro 2023-05-02 16:59

Really enjoyed this, managed to get my cube to be stable and levitate in the sky. Very interesting take on building!

Screenshot 2023-05-02 180154.png

smeljey 2023-05-02 17:04

The concept is great and I love it! However, it was quite hard to get started and it really needs some kind of tutorial. But in the end it feels like building your own space ship, even the weird one. Great job!

kwiper 2023-05-02 18:08

Took a while to understand but with enough tinkering I got it. So cool you managed to do something like this in such a short amount of time, reminds me a bit of something like Kerbal Space Program! I just wish there was a bit more instruction/tutorialization so there wasn't so much trial and error to understand how the game works.

fusionnist 2023-05-02 18:11

Love me a cube game! The kind of project that has me wanting more... Played long enough to push the cube off the map as you suggested. I think the only hurdle is figuring out how energy works - because there were no numbers I first assumed anything connected to a generator would be "powered". It also made differentiating panels and generators harder in terms of output. But man! So cool! Good work!

bullex 2023-05-02 18:45

The idea to build in all direction and not only on a flat surface is really interesting. I imagine what this can become

bloodyaugust 2023-05-02 21:36

I liked this fun little sandbox! I really wish there was (as others have asked/said) a way to inspect how much energy is in my network, and how much I needed. I kind of built out the infrastructure first, then added solar panels until I finally lifted off. I would love to see this turn into a real game!

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-02 22:31

@frabjous-studios did middle mouse not work? I almost added another way like 'hold r and move mouse' but I didn't get time!

@rjdrag, @roblaro Love to see the other peoples build ideas! The grav engines only go to a specific height but if you build them on the bottom, the cube can go higher... it is prone to flipping though haha

@fusionnist I wanted to add some kinda help/tutorial stuff but I feel like the more mechanics you add the more things you need to explain and then the workload of making a tutorial increases ahah

Thanks all for the feedback! I'd love to keep working on it if I have time - I have so many ideas for cool ways to build that really enhance the 3d aspect like maybe you can get resources by spinning the cube at some point or like lowering it close to the ground to skim the sand for stuff

frabjous-studios 2023-05-02 22:34

@peterfiftyfour I'm on a MacBook playing with a trackpad 😂 😭

I think two finger scroll oughta do it. We'll see.

pazzi 2023-05-03 00:08

I really enjoyed this one! It was daunting at first, but it quickly became addictive haha xD

eharp 2023-05-03 00:41

Really interesting take on the theme and love the general vibe. The tension of trying to add thrust and anticipate needing to balance weight works so well. I accidentally flipped my cube upside down and got stuck but also totally understood why I messed up.

I liked that the thrusters indicated their powered status but nothing else seemed to. It would be great to have a visual powered status for the conduits in particular because I sometimes couldn't tell from the perspective whether I had connected them correctly or not. Also a restart button would be helpful for when you get stuck or run out of money.

jminor 2023-05-03 06:36

Whoa - that was amazing! I got it to fly! Such a unique and interesting concept, nicely executed. Congrats!

batony-robson 2023-05-03 07:51

it was hard to understand what should i do using only itch.io description. But when i read this page i've got it. Loved the music and mood.

erlioniel 2023-05-03 10:59

Hey!

I kinda won (I guess?) by moving the cube away from the map and I can say that I do like how it's playing. It was quite a meditative experience overall with building structures and trying to balance everything around. Which wasn't quite native for me is that the energy is not transferring from one building to another and a little bit fuzzy camera, which didn't help with placing structures correctly, especially when cube started to move. But I do like this feeling of moving giant cube somewhere

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-03 11:03

@erlioniel oo what do you mean by fuzzy camera? You mean like hard to move to the right place? Yeah I needed to make it more clear that you had to put conduits between each haha

erlioniel 2023-05-03 11:12

@peterfiftyfour I think the majoring of the effect comes from that fact that camera is not hardly connected to the cube. And when the cube starts to move - it's moving inside the screen as well. Since I didn't figure out how to stabilize it and placed all my gravity generators on one side of the cube - the cube was pretty unstable at first and it wasn't that easy for me to balance it by accurately placing generators on the opposite side of the cube due to the camera movement. I did manage, so nothing critical, but it felt like a little bit of fighting with the game

cleoh 2023-05-03 19:03

It's a really fun concept, and it could be an interesting mix between factorio and besiege if expended uppon! The camera does lag behing the cube quite a bit when it moves, but it's not that annoying. I would love playing a full game version of this honestly!

jpbaraky 2023-05-03 23:32

nice idea, maybe add a destination or other shapes that you need to work on, could be nice to construct a entire civilization on a cube and fly in the sky :D

pianoman373 2023-05-04 17:24

A really innovative idea! I really think you should take it further. I really love factory-builder games and having a factory builder where you make a travelling factory is a super cool concept. The only part that made getting started confusing was the use of conduits. I think just having a global energy pool for the entire cube might have been more intuitive.

ecmjohnson 2023-05-06 00:46

This is very compelling! The concept is brilliant. It's very addictive when you start understanding and are building towards an objective. I would have liked to know how well-powered things are and have some visual feedback on things connecting to the conduit. Also, the side opposite the sun is very dark and I struggled to build on that side. You delivered a game with huge potential!

jitspoe 2023-05-09 12:53

Pretty ambitious to do a building game like this for a jam! I managed to flip my cube over and lose all the power to the mass extractors which were using solar. 😭 Eventually got it up and going, though!

3mpty 2023-05-09 13:52

Some neat ideas and some really sad misses! I'm really sad it's missing the objective system itself, having to take the cube to even random coordinates would add such a huge amount to this game and I'm sad it didn't make it.

Chill BGM is nice. The parts all look pretty good, I wish conduits could stack on conduits to make weird wiring easier. Lighting on the dark sides of the cube makes it really hard to place structures, and I found some minor issues where some tiles couldn't accept a tile for no reason. The metal economy feels a little bare bones and simple to manage, so wasn't super interesting to deal with. The energy economy was nice in that it operated on a very different axis to metal, but I'm not sure exactly how it worked since the game didn't communicate state very well, bringing me to my major concern:

The game is very uninformative, there's room for a game to let you explore of course, but mostly I felt like I knew what everything did, but didn't really understand to what degree. The force of each thruster, the metal generated, the energy cost of each component, how electricity flows, all of this was a mystery. It was nice that there's visualisation for active components which helps, but more info would be great. Finally, the middle mouse to rotate causes issues in browser! Gotat be careful with inputs like that and make sure your controls work on all platforms!

Overall really cool and unique idea, lots of fun, I made a cube that could fly around and turn in midair and it was super neato. I have a lot of criticisms above but I actually really liked this game and had loads of fun, the concept is super fresh and it was pretty functional all around, and delivered on the premise really well!

peterfiftyfour 2023-05-10 00:06

@3mpty Thanks for playing! And thanks for the great feedback - that's exactly what I need :)

roroto-sic 2023-05-11 11:54

I managed to move the cube little by little and suddenly, my face up became my face down haha ! A very interesting concept, it's the first time that I play something like that ! (just one note: it very complicated to build something on shadow faces)
