Pretty fun and tense game, I liked the leaderboard.

cronno 2023-05-01 16:39

It seems like the right side of the screen is being cut off on the itch page. You can change the resolution on the edit project page under Viewport dimensions.

@cronno It turned out there was an issue within Godot's project settings. It should be fixed now.

cool game, but it make me realize how bad i am at coming up with words

ruben-rosenmeyer 2023-05-02 10:30

Very cool idea! It seems like the letters stop moving sometimes, until I restart the game. Detecting words works fine. The music is adding nicely to the atmosphere

rasblo 2023-05-02 20:10

Great concept and nice execution! It's like the game where you shoot colored balls and try to match them, except a word game which makes it a lot harder for me..

But fun and great job on completing every aspect, from instructions to fitting sfx!

Really unique game! I love word games and this was a lot of fun. I used to play competitive Scrabble, so I was a bit disappointed I couldn't crank out any 2 letter words or obscure 3 letter ones, but it was a lot of fun just the same. I think this has a lot of potential! Also, would be a game that's relatively easy to translate to other languages or even arbitrary rulesets by changing the corpus which is cool!

phyrocast 2023-05-02 22:19

Impressive! Makes it hard that you mostly get vowels though

chompdev 2023-05-02 23:30

This is such a cool idea! It's kinda like a blend of Space Invaders and Scrabble. I really like having to only focus on vowels and the question mark, and the option to destroy entire lines when you're stuck. The controls are solid and intuitive, and the graphics are really nice. Great job!

b4ux1t3 2023-05-03 21:47

It took me a second to get it, but once I did I sat there and made words for waaay too long. Great job!

jimbly 2023-05-04 00:28

My score: 348000. My best strategy seemed to be to just spam vowels between a couple promising looking consonants and see what happens =).

I thought the game was really fun and chill until I realized it said "press enter to start" at the bottom ^_^. That was pretty fun, and feels original! I would have liked just a little bit of a breather so it wasn't so intense for so long.

i love the clever interpretation of a theme and mix of arcade & word game mechanics! maybe i just didn't play it enough to let all the mechanics saturate, but the right click & ? mechanics usually elided me during gameplay and had me spamming. the visual polish in particular is really great, nice work!

danyclockworker 2023-05-04 15:23

Kind with healthy! Nice

stmatn 2023-05-05 09:37

Fun concept. It is quite hard to find good spots, but that is ok. It would be nice if the game would tell you clearly when it will end.

The music is quite nice :)

reispfannenfresser 2023-05-05 10:24

This is such a fun idea!

Great job on the ux as well. I really like the letter previews, when you are aiming somewhere. Trying to find words is way easier with this feature, but the game remains difficult

It's kind of sad that my best attempt was spamming vowels to replace all consonants and pressing t whenever the "?" appeared

It was fun to discover that the letter selection appears to be influenced by the letters in the current line. When you have only vowels left, you always get a consonant.

This seems like such an unnecessary feature, but it's impact on the balancing and feel of the game is incredible.

natirlich 2023-05-05 10:26

It's a cool game, fun to play, a little bit stressfull but engaging. The game teached me how bad I am in coming up with words, but nevertheless, good job!

salyon 2023-05-06 23:01

Cool game! Loved the idea and I can see how this could evolve to a complete game! The UI seems a bit confusing wen aiming, at first i thought that the letter would be swapped when I shot. Maybe the next letter could be next to the player instead of isolated at the side. Great entry!

bridgeonastick 2023-05-07 11:38

It's a really nice idea! Very satisfying to get combos when the words that appear next also instantly create a word (which I definitely did on purpose). The sound design and music is also really great! Really vibing to the music.

cheesepencil 2023-05-08 00:37

banger tune and awesome vfx

hakro 2023-05-08 21:48

Cool little game. The idea is great, and the music is fun ! Nice entry.

untitled-studios 2023-05-08 23:31

Really awesome concept, super polished and fun with lots of great QOL features. Feels like I often accidentally made words, though - maybe this would benefit from using a different shot of some kind to 'confirm' a word? (Not sure if that's even a good solution, but this feels like it's maybe missing something)

kerdelos 2023-05-09 21:12

Wow I love how simple and yet deep the game is ! Unfortunately english is not my native language and so finding word on a time constraint is a bit hard but this feels like a classic already. I have only one small suggestion : the UI display the letter to shoot directly in the mailbox above, which is nice, but in my opinion the letter that is currently in the mailbox is shrink a bit too much and makes it harder to process which letters are currently in the mailboxes and where is the best place to send the next letter. But that's a minor thing. Overall that's a really solid entry ! Congrats !

Great music, incredibly inovative take on Space Invaders here, loved it!

flying-dog-fish 2023-05-10 21:36

Nice word game.

amango 2023-05-11 19:17

Fun to play! Was a little confusing at first (wasn't sure which letter I "had" versus "would replace"), but became clear after a few shots. The progression was a bit slow! I didn't see the letters come down much, I think the gravity speed could have been increased, or it bugged out on me. Great work!

chs-flws 2023-05-13 11:48

Very fun to play. Graphics and music are amazing. Very challenging

honey-pony 2023-05-15 07:42

Cool game! Pretty difficult in my opinion, although I apparently did make it onto the scoreboard.

One thing I found difficult is it seems like there are some words I would expect to be in the dictionary that just aren't there. Two examples I can recall: 'lop' and 'cay.' Also I feel like 'ax' seems like a real word, but maybe I'm wrong there. (Is it written somewhere that two letter words are excluded? I feel like that would be a reasonable rule, but as far as I can tell it isn't mentioned anywhere). I think that my "high score" run was largely luck. Sometimes I had no idea of any words that could possibly work, and I was just spamming the shoot button, and happened to get a word that worked. Once I completely by accident formed a 5 letter word right on the brink of death.

This is interesting, because I'm not actually sure what kind of strategy will beat random spam. Sure, I do think that some well-chosen right clicks did bring my score higher, but at the end of the day I would not have nearly as high a score had I actually tried to rationally build every single word.

I think this is to some degree a good thing. It's interesting that the game has more strategic depth than just being really good at coming up with words quickly. Moreover, random spam is sometimes a strategy that requires some thinking -- in particular, I would often have a specific word in mind, like "cup" or "pat" or whatever, and just be shooting between those two consonants as fast as possible because I know it will eventually work.

Interestingly, I think the missing dictionary words were much more punishing when I actually had a specific letter and came up with a rational placement for it by looking for one in the words. That is, both the examples I gave, "lop" and "cay," have similar words with a different vowel in the middle, so the random letter spam strategy will work for them even though it won't work due to that particular word. But when I just have the single letter "o" or "a" and I am trying to come up with a quick way to form a 3 letter word, and forming "lop" simply doesn't work, unexpectedly, it's actually pretty punishing for that strategy.

So I think that expanding the dictionary a bit could be a good idea. It is definitely hard to find a good balance between including the words that people will happen to expect to be in there, and including words that are so rarely used that they don't really seem like fair words to include. The problem is the dividing line is different for everyone. In particular, I personally am extremely surprised that "lop" is not in the dictionary. It seems like a pretty normal word in my mind.

Anyways, I did have a good time with the game. The game design is pretty good, I think, very engaging, and there are a few different strategies that work at least reasonably well. I also found the difficulty to be a nice change of pace. It was difficult but it wasn't annoying or really very frustrating. I think the graphic design is pretty clean, and the music is great as well. Great job!

Cool game! I think it's really a good idea in word spelling game which matches the theme delivery (get and delivery in order to change). Amazing mix! I like it!

interpixel 2023-05-18 18:48

good standalone word game. not very deliverish.
