This has the feel of a mid 00's flash game. Also, the mouse seems hyper-sensitive to me, which makes it a little tough. That said, nice work for a first attempt at a jam!

It's very hard to get past the enemies, but nice job for your first game jam!
Nice work ^^ The horizontal sensitivity is a bith high
Thanks everyone on the feedback!
Looking at the game in retrospect, @eerongal and @rinkuji right about the camera issue. I guess this is the kind of thing that happens when you've been developing a game for so long with no testers, you just get used to the "extreme" stuff with nobody to point it out.
The game resembling a Flash game is semi-intentional: I intend for my personal style to be a kind of modernized Flash look (though in this case, I failed on the "modernized" part).
The trick to getting past the enemies is to position yourself when the timer runs out where they spawn in a position where they can't get you as easily. I know it's not the best system, it's just one of those "first time" things.
For a first time entry I'm going to say Nice Job! If I'm being completely honest, I nearly tossed up my lunch due to the camera motion (that's a me issue, not a you issue). Mechanically you have a game and it fits the theme nicely.
I think it's really good, especially for a first time submission! The art style reminded me of some ps1/flash era platformers, so it had a cool throwback feel. Jumping was a liiitle hard to see where you were going to land, but maybe shadows or some other ground indicator could help with that. Overall a great submission for a fellow first timer!
It's a game and you finished it! That's the most important thing.
For the record, I don't think that the camera makes the game unplayable. The game feels a little wonky in general, but the camera is only part of that problem - you'll learn how to make player controls "feel" better as time goes on. For now, celebrate your success of making a game (and actually playing creatively with the theme a little, which wasn't easy this time)!
"You are now dead, have a nice day" line made my day
Hey, great job finishing something for your first game jam! It's a little rough around the edges, but the fact that you made something playable and got it submitted in time is something to be proud of!
Couldn't get through the first enemy :/ love the aesthetic, remind my of those flash games and the geo cities websites ^^. I don't know if the over sensitive camera is a volontary thing but it kinda add some charms to the game.
@Rezioz The sensitive camera is a common criticism I've received, so it's something I'll try to avoid on future projects. The way you're supposed to get past enemies is to position yourself so they spawn in a place where they don't get in the way when the timer runs out.
Hello. Congratulations on your first jam. The road will be mastered by the walking one. You are great for being able to bring the project to the end and not give up halfway through. I almost made it to the end :)
Interesting 2.5d style for a third person game. Like other comments have said the camera seems very sensitive, although you could use this as a feature. I like the funky music!
I had a nice day! but I am dead now...
Congrats on your first game!
I have a trackpad and the mouse sensibility is making me nauseous!
The nice music made me play several times
Not bad at all for a first jam. The gameplay is quite fun and engaging, even if the controls and camera are a bit slippery, and the game is a somewhat unforgiving, at least in the beginning. Usually you want a game to be easier at the beginning, and gradually become more difficult (instead of the opposite) As a point of constructive criticism, I would suggest always keeping these things (controls/feel and progression) in mind whenever designing a game. I did enjoy it however, really good job. Really hope to see you making games in the future!
By the way, will we get a face reveal of the alien?
Neat art style reminds me of sudo 3d from the snes era. My biggest suggestion would be coyote time and a slightly lower mouse sensitivity great job completing your first jam!
I really like the art. Also, your death screen made me chuckle
I realllly liked this! it was so goofy and funny, and i love the obstacle course feel to it! The enemies were my favorite part, making the game a bit difficult. Having to work around the enemy while doing the obstacles were cool. I would go to different places on the map and make them spawn in different places so itd be easier to reach the end. This game reminds me of speedrunning kind of games, like Neon White! I feel like it has a potential for people to try to find super quick routes and things to get away from the enemy. Like I almost made it to the end but the enemy spawned right in front of me and killed me! So the next time I was almost there I dodged and weaved til the next one spawned and then ran towards the end, beating the game. Super fun, I liked it alot! And the tune is just sooo groovy. Great job!!!
Nice atmosphere and great work! The only thing I want to complain is that I was using a 800 dpi mouse and its still fast as **** to control my view in the game lmao. Nice Job and Congrats!
Good job on finishing the game ! I have managed to reach the end, even though I fell in the first square of water more than I am willing to admit ... A cool addition would be to have a timer to see how fast we complete the game, to bring some replayability :D
This is very good for your first jam game! I really like the artstyle, excited to see other games from you!
YOU WIN! Hah! What a funny little game. It was super tricky to figure out the enemy pattern. The bullet's hitbox is so big! I had to really zig and zag hard. But in the end it was worth it. Quite tricky, and I like the map design. Might be cool to make the hitbox a bit more obvious and make a few more levels. It was fun and just the right amount of difficult. Thank you for the game!
Funny little game that looks like a good old flash game. Congratz on your first Ludum!
Nice work, well done for submitting a game this year!
You can be proud of yourself submitting your first game to LudumDare! The game is a bit hard though :-) I almost survived the first enemy after 20 attempts ^^
The controls are intuitive. I could walk and jump without looking at somekind of 'how to play'. I like that. The mouse though, it is very sensitive and almost unusable for me. The jumping feels a bit floaty.
Do you have any tips on how to play so I can at least survive more than 30 seconds? I would love to see what the platforming is like.
Congratz on your first entry! I hope you had lots of fun
Nice entry! Though I failed to finish the game... I got dizzy. Great work anyway!
Congratulations on your first game jam! I like the retro feel of the artwork and music.
Thanks everyone for the feedback!
@shrillwhip I'll keep your feedback in mind when making future games! As for a face reveal, the alien was cobbled together really quickly so I haven't really decided what their face will look like, but maybe in a future game I'll create an alien character based on them :)
@aderpychickenstudios Thanks! Coyote time is something I'll consider for future games!
@ubershmekel Sorry about the hitbox issue, I'll take that into consideration the next time I code projectiles in a game.
@wouter52 If you're still interested in trying to complete it, a tip is to position yourself when the timer reaches 0 so that enemies spawn in a place that's not too intrusive.
As other comments say, horizontal sensitivity is a bit high and enemies are difficult to pass by. Great work anyway!
The control of character is over-sensitive. Regretfully, i can't finish the game over a 20 attempts, but, overall, nice start, mate! Keep going and u'll do ur best!
was fun but very hard!
@zerbu thanks! I'll put yours back on the 'to play list' so I can try that later :-)
First off, I just want to say that you should be very proud of yourself for submitting a finished game during the jam. It is NOT an easy thing to do, especially by yourself. Please don't let this experience discourage you from continuing to try another in the future! I'd love to see more from you!
As others have mentioned, the mouse sensitivity made this game hard to play. Sadly, I am not a good enough gamer to make it past the first 2 enemies. I'm going to have my husband play this one, as I'm sure he could make it further than I did.
From my perspective, I felt like I had a huge hitbox or perhaps it was just a camera perspective thing, but sometimes it looked like I had managed to sneak past a projectile, only to die. Death message was cute though - made me feel better about dying lol.
Nice and simple. The jump feels a bit underpowered.
The flat graphics give a unique feel, and is probably a smart compromise when you have limited time.
It was a bit difficult but I managed to make it to the end :)
Well, you recognize it's not good...I've made a ton of bad game jam games, know that feeling. Glad you got something done. I'd say the good parts are the take on the theme, without the theme implementation it would be very boring. Dying instantly and seeing the death screen made me burst out laughing, so a 5 for humor.
Good game! As they have said, the mouse is quite sensitive and in my opinion the difficulty is not progressive, I only see it hard at the beginning. I have entered because I have read your post commenting on your experience and I am sure that in the next edition you will do something much better, you will see. Great game!
Nice work for your first LD game! Like the other commenters, I had issues with the mouse-look script but apart from that, it's a nice and simple game. It would have been nice to maybe have more levels, and make the first one easier. Also, the enemies sometimes spawn in an impossible-to-dodge location. Good luck to you in the future!
Keep going. It will pay one day.
