very cool looking game, everything fit nice together, the speed things were cool, I think the Graphics stood out to me the most, can't give much criticism, embed didn't load but the itch link worked. :)

m4ttu 2022-10-04 11:35

The spawner & death animations are amazing! The 2D-Iso view makes it difficult to navigate sometimes (especially on keyboard) but the concept is cool and nicely executed. Well done!

chromaphase 2022-10-04 11:59

Really nice handdraw artwork, gameplay also smooth! Maybe too much of backtracking but at least the game play is quite unique !

trusty 2022-10-05 03:06

Had fun playing this one, liked the puzzle

maaack 2022-10-05 03:06

Tried playing on itch.io with firefox browser. After pressing play from the main menu, I hear an alarm sound and some boot-up noises, but the screen goes black, and stays that way. Tried twice with the same result.

clonze 2022-10-05 03:09

space. robots. loved it.

human-writes-code 2022-10-05 03:10

Beautiful graphics and the death animation (which I saw A LOT) was really cool. It was a bit difficult to control on mouse and keyboard because left didn't align with the isometric-ish view. I didn't have a controller around but I imagine that it would have been easier with that. Took me a minute to realise that the orange switches turned green when you got closer (I'm dumb). A cool idea and a fun little game. Well done!

fireslash 2022-10-05 03:11

When I hit the checkpoint I got excited for more but that's basically the end.

I had a ton of fun! There were really only a few minor issues I had - Arrow key movement is off axis with the map, so it's tricky to stay on the speed pads. - Sometimes, pressing a switch makes something happen off screen so you have to spend a few turns hunting for the right place to go - I wish there was an instant reset button for when you know you've already messed up (the tighter timed sections)

The graphics are all super nice and coherent, the style is simple but works really well and feels good. Mechanically the game has a nice bit of progression; the speed upgrade in the end is tons of fun!

I'd love to see more if this if you ever make a longer version. Nice work!

chartle 2022-10-05 03:14

@maaack sorry to hear! If you'd like you can shoot me a log of your browser's console and i'll see if can fix it. It's probably something to do with the video cutscene playing in that moment. Unfortunately it works for me (also firefox) so I can't troubleshoot it myself. Otherwise if you're on windows there's always the download :).

boudichon 2022-10-05 03:15

Really good submission! It wasn't obvious which door was activated though, I ran in circle a few times before spotting the path that I just opened, but I suppose that if it was obvious, the puzzling would be a lot easier. I had to think and realize that when my current path is getting too slow, it probably just means that I'm on the wrong path. The forced respawn every 10s wasn't annoying at all considering that shortcuts opened as we progress. I like the ambiance a lot

labtoast 2022-10-05 03:21

By the gods above, that sooooong!

This is an awesome game, one of my favorites that I've played so far! (Though I have a soft spot for cute robots) I particularly loved the liberating feeling that came with picking up that speed chip.

The puzzles were interesting, I think they perhaps could've been more complex, but I think the simplicity works better with the backtracking mechanic.

Excellent work!

robobarbie 2022-10-05 03:25

Wow this is super clean! Unique idea and really fun execution in all aspects. Love the art, sound, controls -- everything! Great job!

chingle 2022-10-05 03:26

Graphics looks great and the minimal cutscenes are much appreciated. Base game is nice and I can see its potential. Good job to your team!

allie-vera 2022-10-05 04:23

The piles of scrap kept me motivated to push forward, as a way of fulfilling the final wishes of my little metal brethren. Great submission!

adamcyounis 2022-10-05 04:32

Good stuff!

What a great take on the theme. I've never played a puzzle game that had this kind of constraint before. I thought the isometric perspective was great for the art, maybe not quite as suitable for the gameplay which was really intense at times, and diagonal hitboxes can be a little bit jarring. That said, I don't think it really detracted from the experience, which was overall very positive. Music was really nice too. Not a lot more to say about this one other than I enjoyed it and would have gladly played more.

Thanks for sharing!

saskle 2022-10-05 10:05

@fireslash Thank you for your kind words! The reset button was on our to-do list but in the end we didn't get to implement it. Glad you liked our game though!

lenan 2022-10-06 00:24

Very interesting game.

The art was nice.

Felt like it needed some music and some SFX, some parts do have SFX like the intro scene.

The controls were ok, but could use some polish, it felt weird sometimes and personally i got stuck a lot in corners.

Overall a nice entry, pretty fun and interesting.

chartle 2022-10-06 00:48

@lenan There is music and SFX in the game, weird that you didn't hear it. It sounds like the FMOD parts of sound weren't working (since the cutscene doesn't use FMOD), might be worth a shot trying the sliders in the options menu, or playing on a different platform (windows vs web) if you can. Thanks for playing regardless!

lenan 2022-10-06 02:59

@chartle its an issue with the web version, i downloaded the windows version and the sounds work. Also updated my ratings since the windows version has sounds.

sterco-raro 2022-10-06 16:46

I really liked this one, the art style and music are cool :D I liked the gameplay too even though it took a bit to master the movement

michaelaranda 2022-10-06 18:20

I really dig the hand-drawn art/animation. It especially gives the little helper bots an endearing personality.

steve7411 2022-10-06 19:14

I love this one! Super fun to make it through. The controls sometimes felt a bit unwieldy, but I could see that as adding to the challenge.

simono 2022-10-08 07:35

Really enjoyed this - great fun playing through and really well tied together. Great use of the theme, graphics, audio and overall vibe were great :)

roroto-sic 2022-10-08 17:19

i really enjoyed playing this game ! arts and musics give true retro sci-fi vibes !!

just note, i dont always know what the levers did, and I haven't seen the speed upgrade during a bit of time. but the game is still great

system rebooted

nice

adriangray 2022-10-08 18:11

Great concept, great implementation, nice puzzle! Really like the music, graphics and animations! The little box robot looks cute. 5/5

caveman54 2022-10-09 23:23

Really well done game. It plays super well and looks great. I really do not have much of anything to say it is a very nice entry.

big-chalupa 2022-10-09 23:45

That felt like a whole experience from beginning to end. good job!

the-enigma 2022-10-10 21:34

I really like the art and sound, really helps make a great atmosphere. Controlling on keyboard was a little difficult at times, but its fun anyway. Good job!

benk 2022-10-12 10:47

love it, felt like a complete game - the sfx, (evolving) music, art, environment, level design, lighting, even the plot. I was feeling pretty sorry for these little robots, guilty even, and the final race down the end with the last robot made me legit emotional.

a quality of life improvement would be a kill switch for the current robot, like another person said. the controls felt a little hard to control sometimes. i swear i somehow ended up in a bad state with the doors in the top right, and had to restart the game, but i finished it the 2nd time around. i would play an extended version of the game with more to explore, if there were clues about what door was being affected.

dragonayzer 2022-10-12 12:49

I liked the game! I wish I could see the amount of crushed robots in the end, though.

As already stated above, I wish there was some kind of display on what levers did. Perhaps something in the line of Portal's cable-esque indicators between levers and doors?

On another note, I wish Bot's hitbox was more circular, so it'd get stuck less on tight entrances.

The sound design works well, and the art looks pretty.

Overall, I liked the experience, and would play a longer version, if you were considering expanding it in the future.

eoshadows 2022-10-12 16:14

Great game! Loved the graphics. The concept was pretty cool too, and implemented the theme well. It was funny because at one point I was like "man, if only this game had a way to speed up the drone". Then I went into another room and found the power-up just as I was saying that to myself haha. But yeah, overall very nice game. Well done!

itooh 2022-10-15 18:44

Pretty cool game! I got a bit lost at some point (not sure where I was supposed to go), but eventually stumbled upon the ending! I never felt stuck for too long, so I guess this is a win for level-design! Although I sometime didn't know what a switch accomplished, and it was easy to forget which one was for which one, or even if I had use it or not. But besides those confusions, the game is fun to explore, and it's very rewarding to find shortcuts or the speed upgrade.

Also the music is awesome! I sounds great, and the dynamic evolution through the game gives a great sense of progression.

paveldlouhy 2022-10-21 16:28

This is one of the best games I played and rated so far! In Theme category this game is (for me) the BEST I played and rated during this Ludum Dare. Nice aesthetics and pretty polished... Also, I enjoyed playing it (to the very end)! Good job, guys!

iamsodarncool 2022-10-21 21:42

Super awesome game. I love your interpretation of the theme, and I had so much fun exploring and scrambling to get as far as I could within the 10 second lifespan. I think the game was a perfect difficulty and length; I felt super satisfied when I beat it.

The art is so good. I love 2D handdrawn art that emulates a 3D look, and this game has a fabulous execution of that. The color palette chosen is beautiful and very spacey/atmospheric.

The music is PHENOMENAL. I love how it builds up throughout the game. The music does an incredible job of setting the mood and it honestly makes the game 2x more fun and immersive. Please release the music as a standalone track!

The sound effects are also great and feel very cohesive. Also, you added sounds to your UI buttons!! That's an AWESOME level of polish that I don't think I've ever seen in a LD game before!

The one thing I didn't love about this game was the controls. The way the level is laid out, a lot of diagonal movement is required. When playing with a keyboard, this requires pressing two keys simultaneously; I found this to be an unfun level of cognitive overhead to keep track of, as compared to most games in this genre where the primary directions of movement are up/down/left/right. Maybe it works better when playing with a gamepad? I wonder if the control scheme would work better if the directions the keys correspond to were rotated 45 degrees, as if the keyboard was on an angle, so you only have to press one button to move in a diagonal direction.

Another detail I'd like to mention is that I love how your corpses stay in the level persistently. It was very cool and intense to watch them build up throughout the game.

This is one of my favorite games that I've played all LD51. Thank you for making it :)
