LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Rain Systems by thebmxeur 2022-10-05T01:18:04Z

Marking myself among those who tried and failed to solve this puzzle XD

I adore the concept, but I think I would've benefitted from a clearer objective... Didn't occur to me that I was meant to fix the bug until reading some comments here... But maybe that's what you were going for?

> deploy helper bot by Chartle 2022-10-05T03:21:40Z

By the gods above, that sooooong!

This is an awesome game, one of my favorites that I've played so far! (Though I have a soft spot for cute robots) I particularly loved the liberating feeling that came with picking up that speed chip.

The puzzles were interesting, I think they perhaps could've been more complex, but I think the simplicity works better with the backtracking mechanic.

Excellent work!

It moved?.. by MadHumster 2022-10-05T03:10:29Z

I have one issue: The monsters chase you for a very brief time, and their hitboxes are very forgiving. I found that due to the difference in speed between me and the monsters, I was able to kind of just run them in circles for a bit. Maybe this was intended, or maybe I got lucky, but once I discovered that, I found there was far less tension.

However, before I found that exploit, there was a moment of utter panic every time the monsters spawned. Blew 8 rounds out of the gun first spawn wave... I think that's the mark of a good horror game. XD Good job!

Swapwood Quest R by Saturnyoshi 2022-10-04T16:11:07Z

Great game! As a big fan of Tetris Attack/Puzzle League/Panel de Pon, this hits a sweet spot for me. The art's phenomenal, the soundtrack is solid, and it strikes a good balance between being reminiscent of Tetris Attack and introducing new mechanics while also sticking very strongly to the theme!

My only negative feedback is, as many stated over on Itch, some of the earlier fights can be beaten optimally by just spamming swap. In my experience though, some of the later fights forced me to think strategically, setting up matches to actually use on later turns. It was good fun!

Robo-Clash 1999 by JHax 2022-10-06T02:25:05Z

Fun game! As some others have said, I feel like I'm not doing the game justice by only playing single-player mode. Maybe I'll have to get a friend involved and give it another shot. Generally, I found the AI to be avoidant, usually it'd throw itself off the map after a few turns.

AI issues aside, it's really well done! I particularly like how you balance Rock-Paper-Scissors with strategy by also adjusting the attack ranges for each stance.

Keeper Of The Worlds by Ambear 2022-10-04T17:05:53Z

Collected all the plants, filled up the monument... now what? Was some event supposed to trigger? Did I won?

That issue aside, this is a really cool take on the theme! I love dimension-hopping as a concept, so this was good fun. The art was really cute too!

Would've liked to have seen some music or at least some ambiance for each world besides just the first, but time crunches be time crunches, amirite?

Bots, Bots, Bots by Link270 2022-10-05T05:50:46Z

Wow, what a polished entry!

I feel like it was intentional, the int overflow after the ultimate robot. Was very satisfying to see my resources go negative XD

My only issue was that the crates with new bots falling often got in the way of manually derusting my bots... then again, if there are so many bots that the crates are getting in the way, it's not that big of a deal, is it?

I love a good snowball effect building game like this, and the art is absolutely gorgeous. Kudos!

My Rotten Soldier by Misfire_dev 2022-10-05T23:29:45Z

What an experience. I'm sorry for the loss of your cat, she was clearly very loved.

Excellent animation and atmosphere! I think my only qualm is that the lighting impacts the click prompts for the cat behavior, so they're kinda hard to see sometimes.

Life Passes You By by Cosmonautical 2022-10-06T02:07:40Z

Astounding. I found myself skimming most of them, as I didn't have time to read them all and I STILL missed opportunities... Just like in life, eh? But I think that's ok. Life's about the experiences we have, not the ones we missed.

Nuclear Pulse by erikengineengineer 2022-10-05T22:28:27Z

Good art and music! The background, like many others have said, gets a little dizzying after some time...

I _love_ the gimmick though. The nuclear detonation method for lightspeed is among my favorite approaching-the-speed-of-light techniques! Seems like something an Ork would come up with for rapid travel XD

PolyGone by LabToast 2022-10-03T23:00:02Z

Had some struggles uploading, but looks like it worked out! Thrilled to be a part of LD51!

PolyGone by LabToast 2022-10-04T23:21:07Z

@quinn-patrick that was the idea, yes. The first powerup is basic lateral ground movement. In my testing, I wasn't able to break it and keep moving after it vanished, but it's entirely possible you found a bug there.

Thanks everyone for all of the wonderful feedback! I agree completely with most of the points here, particularly more levels, a more visible jump charge, and better audio balancing.

@madhumster Had I spent half the time learning and twice the time doing, I'd've had that dozen more levels, but this was a learning experience, and quite a valuable one at that. Definitely going to do better for LD52!

PolyGone by LabToast 2022-10-05T23:46:40Z

@shaunshepherd yeah, that's what I was concerned about with the mechanic. I had tossed around some adjacent ideas, like for example instead of losing an ability every 10 seconds, you _change_ abilities. I ended up settling on this mostly due to lack of playtesting time. :/

@weefairyfabi Thanks! I'm happy to hear the lil guy's well received. ^ - ^

Glad both of you liked the game!

Witch Upon A Star by WhaleJam 2022-10-05T19:23:26Z

Great experience! I really love the art direction, reminded me of Paper Mario titles in the way everything was flat and flipped around.

The environment is gorgeous, and the level is well-designed: That sudden death was early enough that I didn't feel cheated or frustrated at falling off the map, and was just careful later. Good stuff!

Not Late, Or Early by ShaunShepherd 2022-10-05T02:59:18Z

nice game! There appear to be some resolution issues on my screen, at least in the embedded version. Maybe that caused me to miss it, but the lack of button prompts led to struggles. A looot of trial and error before I finally realized "e" picks things up.

Very hectic and fun gameplay! I feel like highlighting which item the player is about to pick up would be useful, as I often accidentally picked up the wrong item due to mispositioning myself.

Kudos on the art!

The Only Way Is Forward by Fabian Denter 2022-10-04T16:41:36Z

Excellent entry! Were it not for the other commenters, I don't think I would've picked up on the theme, but as far as a text adventure goes it REALLY added to the atmosphere. I particularly like how the distortion grew over time, made things very intense as the game progressed.

Overall, a great experience!

Timeslime by asbjorn 2022-10-06T02:43:49Z

I love this take on the theme! Very polished entry. My only issue is that the recorded inputs only play... sometimes? Makes it kinda hard to strategize, though I understand it'd get very cluttered very quickly if all recorded inputs always played.

Timeslime by asbjorn 2022-10-06T13:46:55Z

Interesting, after trying to go back in and test again, it copies all my inputs every time... Not sure what could've caused the bug, but it's working now at least! I'll give it another go. ^ - ^

LD52 — Harvest

nut another harvest story by WhaleJam 2023-01-13T01:15:43Z

Such a cute game! I love the art being sparse, really feels like playing a children's book. The music is really good too, instantly boosted my mood!

Potion Panic by Tigpan 2023-01-13T03:05:22Z

This game is a fun concept, it's got a lot of charm! I was a bit frazzled being thrown in sink-or-swim, but the gameplay was really intuitive. I think my only issue is that rocks look to me like part of the background, so a few times I unexpectedly hit a wall. Good work overall!
