This concept is really interesting. I think I'd need another player to really get the most out of it because you can't really play mind games against an AI opponent. Vs basic you can guess that they'll change their stance if they're in a weak stance or the same stance as you but that's about it.

jhax 2022-10-03 23:22

Thanks for the feedback @ghostbomb! The 2 player is definitely stronger than the vs. AI mode. I wanted to get in some alternate AI's that would follow a bit more of a predictable pattern but it took me longer than I'd hoped getting the Basic AI behaving at least vaguely sensibly XD

whysguy52 2022-10-03 23:53

yeah that was really fun. is there a downloadable version? planning to make a desktop and online multiplayer version?

jhax 2022-10-04 00:22

Thanks @whysguy52 glad you enjoyed it! I've not really done any online multiplayer stuff before, although I can see this being a good game to use as a bit of a learning experience for it. I don't really have any plans for it at the moment though I'm afraid! The tools I used for this aren't particularly well geared towards desktop builds (as far as I know) so I hadn't really considered it for this. I'm working on a bigger project using the same stuff, so if I find a good way to get desktop builds for that I'll probably come back and do the same for my jam games - very unlikely that'll happen any time soon though, sorry!

wow!cool design,also i like its 8-bit music

ofiro 2022-10-04 10:35

Pretty cool game, I liked the first rule of Robo-Clash 1999 about transmitting data :)

Some things:

- 2nd player definitely needed. It's hard to play vs. the AI, I found wins or losses were essentially random. I feel that if you could make less than 10 moves every turn, it would help get close to your opponent, as it minimizes the chance of moving too far apart.

- I would add a clearer indication as to which player I am (player 1 won - is that me?)

jhax 2022-10-04 10:46

Thanks for the feedback @brandon1037! Happy to hear you liked the music, I would have liked to do a bit more of it but it took me a while to properly figure out the tools for it XD

Thanks @ofiro as well! Yeah they're both fair points! On 1. I did consider allowing fewer inputs but I thought it was a bit truer to theme to leave it at 10, I might come back and add a 5 moves / 3 moves at a time option after ratings. As for point 2. I was playing it with someone else just after submitting and I realised it was a bit of a problem after they asked which one they were XD The post jam to do list may well include some clearer communication on that too!

toreskovic 2022-10-04 10:48

Pretty cool take on the theme, very nice mechanics. I like the premise and the overall look 'n' feel but would enjoy the game more if the AI were a bit more tactical in their choices.

adriangray 2022-10-04 10:59

Very cool game, I really enjoy the mechanics and 8bit music. The Issues I have is that is hard to tell which way you're facing, maybe I'm missing some visual hint or it's part of the game to remember which way you're facing ). Another thing is that AI is running so much from you, but might be strategical from other point of interpretation ) Overall very nice!

phoenixofforce 2022-10-04 17:41

Great game, the AI somehow killed itself before i could get the hang of it :D Well done!

eeperdeheap 2022-10-04 17:44

Reminded me of robot ralley. Cute.

dod108 2022-10-04 17:46

Very nice idea, cool game. The main problem is that it's too random if you don't know the opponent moves. Maybe smaller arena from the start would help.

tylerstraub 2022-10-04 18:10

Really great idea and execution, obviously the AI could be better but that's a lot to ask in 72 hours, just wish I had someone to play this with haha! The polish on this is really great.

roroto-sic 2022-10-04 19:01

Seem that it Could be really fun with someone , its very nice that you had put a solo mode for solo like mebut the AI is a bit janky^^' however the gameplay is really interesting, and the art and the musics suit perfectly well the 90s era ! well done !

eugenik 2022-10-05 01:42

very good atmosphere ^^.

cookiera 2022-10-05 17:30

I liked it, good job!

clonze 2022-10-05 19:26

Interesting concept, but extremely difficult to play. It's about prediction and hedging your bets on what's going to happen... sort of like a game of rock paper scissors except you can have a strategy. I'd be concerned about the pacing of the game for keeping players and also the learning curve for bringing them in.

I think it's really polished in terms of graphics, UI, sound, and controls, but without a player2 it might be hard to continue playing.

crwohlers 2022-10-05 21:37

Pretty good, especially for only a couple of days! I found myself losing track of which robot was me though, maybe that could be changed a little.

labtoast 2022-10-06 02:25

Fun game! As some others have said, I feel like I'm not doing the game justice by only playing single-player mode. Maybe I'll have to get a friend involved and give it another shot. Generally, I found the AI to be avoidant, usually it'd throw itself off the map after a few turns.

AI issues aside, it's really well done! I particularly like how you balance Rock-Paper-Scissors with strategy by also adjusting the attack ranges for each stance.

frozenfire92 2022-10-07 12:33

What a cool entry! I really liked the whole experience (art, music, game) but agree with others about the AI not providing a good representation of the potential (it's a gamejam, totally understandable  ). It would be nice to have a visualization of what my current moves would do, sometimes was hard to keep track in your mind of where I'm going and what direction I'll be. Keep on making games!

oddsocks 2022-10-08 08:51

Awesome LD entry :raised_hands: I really enjoyed not knowing what the computer's moves were going to be. I did not do well! But I had fun not doing well!! Really interesting take on the theme. The pixel art was fantastic, and the music fitted perfectly.

willoxs 2022-10-09 11:12

Yes this game is more fun with two human players than vs the ai. Considering the time constraints its impressive you even got one up and running even if it appears to be mostly random. Had fun playing vs my brother but it comes down to luck too. Which is not a bad thing per se.

Very clean entry i must say - menus backstory and all.

tsfreddie 2022-10-09 21:30

Took some time to grasp the meta against the AI player, but it was very enjoyable albeit the lacking of friends on my end.

purpledartfrog 2022-10-10 08:24

Loved the feel of this. The music was a little harsh... but overall the entry really fits the vibe of that era. Very good job :thumbsup_tone1: The @jhax post brought me here

enderswype 2022-10-10 13:18

Playing against the computer feels like playing against a 3 yo ahah, i assume it's better played player vs player. Nice concept, easy to understand and UI is clear I really enoyed it :)

fireks 2022-10-16 13:09

I like this game, especially its style and music! I think you can make a good turn-based strategy from it, or something else. Well, i really enjoyed it!

sarah 2022-10-20 03:56

This is a really interesting idea, I would love to see a path of where I might end up, but its a good concept. It would be fun with a real second player :3 I found the audio to be a bit hard on the ears at the volume but overall nice job!
