@Ratogodoy
Honestly now that I've grown up since last time, all I want is hopefully peeps to have fun with the game haha. I'm glad ye enjoyed it though ^-^
Cool music and art. But I can't make music quieter :(
@sunderbird You can mute the audio by pressing Ctrl & S. I'll put in audio mute/volume adjust when I've hade some sleep :) Sorry about that, I knew I was forgetting something!
Outstanding work here, all around. Love the slow transitions between screens of classic 8-bit games! The music kicks ass, but it *is* a bit too loud.
The art, the sound effects, you managed to bring back some nostalgia, I love it! And you managed to do all these things in 3 days, great job! I can't wait to see what other games you will release in the future.
Pretty incredible for a game created over 72 hours. The art, music and menu's are really well made. I'd love to see this game further developed!
Phenomenal game for the time constraints. Polished to a sheen and with a lot of content which is actually fun and very worthwhile. Haven't finished it completely yet but it's because I want to take my time with it. The theme of unstability is actually represented well with the overheat mechanic. Keeps every enemy encounter tense as well since it increases with damage and makes you strategise with regards to the equipment you should use at that moment. The graphics and art are amazing and definitely bring older NES games to mind which is what you were going for anyway so great job on that.
I did not really like how slow the camera transitions between areas though. I realise it was the case for some older games but it could be faster here for a slight quality of life improvement. Same goes for enemies spawning the second I re-enter an area. Maybe re-spawn them after a few minutes.
All in all though, nothing really wrong with this game. It does it what it does very well. Amazing work
5/5 all the way, this looks like it came straight from the 90s, everything is absolutely perfect!
@lucasvb : Ah yeah sorry about the music I knew I was forgetting something so I've updated with a second version where you can change the volume using -/+ keys :)
@transylvanian-blacksmiths Ah thanks! I'm not sure when I'll do another LDjam next because I always seem to exhaust myself haha. I'm glad ye like the game :)
@littlew00d Thanks! If people like it enough I never know, might make it into something fully fleshed out, but as is, it'll just be a wee little jam game :)
@badpiggy Aww thanks for the lovely comment there, glad you find the NES style charming, I know some people can be off put by it, but it's really quick to do, (and I personally love that style.)
Yeah it's one of those things with the camera that I had it baked in where I kind noticed it was perhaps a little too slow, it was too late to change without possibly breaking the whole thing. Although the respawning enemies were my homage to the classic games where they'd always respawn in, I hopefully might of counterbalanced that with the weapons being extra powerful. (Plus they're a source of credits.) It's definitely one of those things where you'd need to tinker with given the time.
Although I'm glad you're having fun with it! :)
Absolutely wonderful! It did take me a while to realise that I had to manually equip my purchased modules though (which is mostly likely my fault for not reading the "How To" first). stunning art and audio! Great job!
@sexganon Thanks! I'm glad ye enjoyed it and yeah in hindsight and something I might do if I ever were to make this into a full game is to have a "beep/flashing icon" saying you have new items to equipped. Just sadly one of those tweaks I didn't catch in time! The beauty of game jams!
this might be the first game I've ever rated a full 5/5, incredible work. I can't wait to see more of your work!
Damn, man. This looks awesome. Just the art would be impressive for 48 hours, and you packed all sorts of other stuff in, plus a huge map. I managed to find 4 gems before getting owned in a lava tube. Well done!
This game is perfect. I've only just started playing and it's got all the stuff I love. Pixel Graphics and simple action gameplay with tight controls and lots of variety for weapons, play-styles and upgrades. Bravo
Amazing game! this could be best game from this jam! This is probably the only metroidvania I've found from this jam. I may need to understand more about heating unstability but I understand fully about unstable planet after getting a gem :). I may need to play this often cause there are many stuffs I haven't tried from the shop.
Amazing game! I'm so impressed you made such a fun and good looking game, not even taking into account you made it in 72h. The gameplay is awesome, the game feel and controls are perfect. The systems and mechanics are great, but I would like if you had some expensive endgame upgrades. Two little problems I encountered (and by little I mean I needed to restart/reinstall the game):
I was remapping the keys and mistakingly assigned jump and move down to the same key, so I couldn't get back to the key remapping menu and I had to reinstall the game.
I jumped over the wall at top left and I think I bugged it because I was stuck there. (Screenshot)
Thank you for making this incredible game and congratulations! You are an amazing gamedev!

Stylistically this game was fantastic. However, I was unable to progress anywhere. After I bought some upgrades for the jump, this did not change my abilities in the level and I was unable to find a way to equip what was purchased. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
-- edit --
I figured out I just needed to press ENTER to go to the menu. Derp. This game was excellent! Awesome job.
@almightyzentaco i had the same issue and then I went left lol. The level has tons of different routes you can take and different ‘biomes’
Great game for LD time limit. A few of bugs here. For example if going from first start point to maximum left and jump over the celling you'll outside of bounds and fall for forever. Another stuck is when you start from start point at second location jump to up platform and go to the right to the next screen. But it's impossible to turn back.
I can't finish the game because of not ready to start over and over again after each stuck. So I'll complete this game with pleasure when you will test it (it takes more time than 72h I understand) and maybe will add some ability to save progress at HQ.
@idenoh : Thanks! I'm really glad ye liked it :) Hopefully I'll get my ass in gear to carry on with LDjam like I used to back in the day ^-^
@caeonosphere : Aww I'm sorry about the lava tube section, I wasn't sure if that was too tricky or not. :/ Hopefully you'll one day find all six gems and get the very quick and stupid ending I plopped in :P Glad ye enjoyed it though ^-^
@monkeyfox Thankies, I'm glad ye liked it, hopefully it wasn't over all with all the items but it wouldn't be a mini-metroidvania if there wasn't!
@bloodbane Ah so with the heating, if you equip more/different items onto your mech, you'll increase the temp, if it goes over your current max, your mech will start to become unstable and then eventually explode. If you get hit too much by things this also will happen, but in that case you could use the cooling unit or de-equip items to cool the mech back down.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the game!
@fer-gueler Ah yeah, I annoyling spotted that bug last night when I was recording a full playthrough, just got around to fixing it right now. I've also put in where if you hold down R for a few seconds on the main menu, you'll be taken back to the key config screen to edit your controls.
Ah there is a couple of expensive end-game upgrades, one is the Agilomatic which gives you triple jump, dashing and the speed boost at the cost of insane temps. And the others is the Pyrojet, Rocket Launcher that just overkills enemies. (The automapper could be a good purchase as it shows the whole map.)
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it despite these little hiccups along the way!
@almightyzentaco Ah you need to equip them via the pause menu. (I think I explained this in the how to play, if I didn't then I apologise on that! Fear not, in version 1.1 I put a little notice at the start of the level to make sure to equip new items if you've purchased them :) Hopefully you can enjoy the game fully now with that patched in :)
@saintheiser Ah yeah, I caught those bugs last night when recording a full playthrough, hopefully should be patched and fixed now. V1.1 has this edited. I just stupidly didn't put any solid ground there to stop you from jumping over!
Ah I'm afraid I won't be putting in saving, the game itself is reasonably small and it's just too much of an edit for LDjam. If I were to ever carry on this game into a full fledged thing then of course saving progress would come as standard! :)
I'd ask if you had slept much, but I've already read through your post-jam report ;)
Pretty great stuff all around! I admit that I am a bit disappointed at the lack of actual NES-styled chiptunes (even faked), as I prefer that sound, but the PWM / chipdrum stuff you have going on isn't bad by any means! The tilesets here look beautiful, great use of the NES palette, especially with the darker background tiles, and the blue/green colors. Perhaps that's old hat for someone more familiar with the NES palette, but I don't really work with it at all so I'm always impressed when I see great results achieved with those colors.
There's so many little things to appreciate here that are maybe taken for granted since the whole package just comes together. The debris particles everywhere give a lot of motion to the scene, the vines and lamps animate subtly to make the world feel alive, there's even conveyor belts, and hey, those laser beam animations look really good too!
Anyways, I knew I shouldn't have tried as soon as I made the screen transition, but I've found another out of bounds bug here:
Untitled.png
I guess my metroid "explore every nook and cranny" instincts didn't serve me well here, oops!
Amazing work, well done for creating this on your own in three days. I saw it on your blog post and had to come try it -- and I wasn't disappointed!
I love explorey games like this, it's my favourite genre. Controls were tight, everything feels right and satisfying, and I never saw it drop a frame. Really nice art and music, too. And there are even several tracks!
I'd be interested to know what you used to create it -- what language, what libraries, which DAW or tracker, which art program? I liked reading the post about your process making this, but would be interested in the technical/tools side too. Of course, if these are trade secrets of yours, no worries ^^
Nice to see someone else make an 8-bit style game! :D Good job! Check out our 8-bit style game if you got the time too! :D
@ddrkirbyisq Ah yeah, I've also found a handful of out of bounds areas, it's mainly due to the camera repositioning issues, sadly jams tend to make me miss things like that but that's the fun of them! I also do prefer the NES styled Damitracker stuff but it would of taken me the whole weekend just to produce one track in Famitracker, so some quick vsti chiptune stuff will have to do!
I'm glad ye liked the overall game though despite a few hiccups! I look forward to playing ye game this weekend now I've fully recovered from the lack of sleep and overload of caffeine haha.
@rogual Thanks! I might actually do a in-depth breakdown of the game and how I approached it in another post or if I carry on making the game (who knows) do a proper dev log. I can say the art program was MSpaint ;P I often use the most simplest of art tools for 8bit games as so I don't go over board. Program/Game Development tool was Fusion, DAW was Cubase and no libs.
Glad ye had fun with it!
@vetche-studio Thanks! Yeah it's always good to see us 8-bit peeps show those old consoles some love, for sure I will check that out this weekend now that I've recovered!
@sinclairstrange: That's certainly fair, working in trackers takes me ages as well so I've also taken to just faking it in FL Studio¸ ha ha ha...
I love it. Thanks for making it!
That was fantastic. Super impressive amount of content (that I only got part way through), but made it through a couple zones and got some sweet upgrades. It did such a great job at making exploring seem fun, with enough secrets hidden throughout to make it feel like there could be another surprise in each new room. Really enjoyed this, great work.
you should submit this one to the lost cartridge jam, this is 100% the vibe! xD
@m1nus I would just make a whole new Nintendo styled game ^-^ (If I were to take part but I'm prolly going to be too busy too :/ )
Amazing work for the time limit. Your ability to bring everything together, starting with art, gameplay, audio, it's all very good. The visuals can feel a little messy because of the color pallet, but it does look very NES era authentic. There's a couple quirky bugs/issues, like dealing with vertical scrolling areas, the UI actually covers the top area of the screen which is still playable, and at least 1 room I found you could land on a block up there and be hidden, not a big deal but just a little missing polish (whatever, it's a jam game)
Overall a very good entry, maybe too much content for me to really digest for a jam game lol
Amazing as usual. I got all the upgrades I wanted and 5 of the gadgets, but then while trying to find my way to the top left gadget I jumped over the top left wall into the dark zone, thinking it was a secret. Regardless, I very much enjoyed my time playing it, superb job as usual cramming in all this content in such a short time.
Congrats on the victory :0
Congrats, awesome sound and music!
it is terribly well done, the first place is really well deserved
Congratulation!
So just to confirm, you made this by yourself right? Wow. And I'm curious, did you have time to test all of this? Were you able to beat the game before submitting? I'd imagine not right, I haven't played fully but it feels like you'd need a solid hour of testing, was this a classic case of submit and pray? I'm also curious, is this playable on NES, or are you just simulating those restrictions? Either way, this is simply bonkers. Really really incredible, 100% deserved win anyone else winning would have been rigged. Everyone else is fighting for second place (and hey, I scored that =P)
@justcamh : Aye, long and sleepless 72 hours! Sadly not, I didn't get time to test everything and as a result it can be easy to get stuck by going out of bounds, with the screen transitions and I've not blocked a block to stop that, (or you go through into a block.) So classic of I hope this worrrrkkkss. (Although I do test along the way, as best as I can.) I'm also just simulating those restrictions. As I've not jammed in about 4 years I went to something I was very comfortable with, which was the ol' Nintendo games.
Thanks but honestly there was so many fantastic games that anyone really could of took the top spot. I just wanted to make a fun game and I hope I've succeeded in that. :) I used to get a little hooked up on scores when I was younger but now it's all about just the fun of pushing yourself to the limit.
@sinclairstrange "now it’s all about just the fun of pushing yourself to the limit" hoo boy you sure went all out on that! And hold up, this is your way of easing back into game jamming? Are you kidding me dude I wouldn't dream of attempting this in a week long jam! I hope you slept at least a bit, but gg again, incredible game!
@justcamh I've always try to go too far with these jams. This is my second "metroidvania" that I've created for LDjam. My first one was way back on the original site, 6 years ago which included bosses but wasn't as polished in my opinion.
Yeah, I find making ol' Nintendo styled game just really fun. It doesn't require too much art assets and I don't have to think of something super innovative with gameplay, haha.
The scope and polish of this game is incredible. Well deserved rank. I think it took me about an hour to complete which is about 3 times as long as the longest playthrough of any other game I played so far. The art is superb and you even nailed a variety of environments with little animated bits in the env here and there. Great enemies... Music on point too - what are you using to make that? How do you even do all of this in time?!
I only have minor nitpicks like falling when I think there is ground, slow screen transitions (this one is probably to taste, not sure what the timing is on this compared to the usual), getting damaged/looping transitions right after a transition, and the lava area probably needing to get more obviously gated. It looks like you mentioned you would add saving if you were to expand so that could solve it too.
For me it's also missing some sort of emotional feeling as you are making progress. I think other games typically inject bits of humor periodically to lift up the mood (silly character conversations would do it), but good lord how can I ask you do have done any more. Also, not every game needs humor so there must be other solutions. Big moments to shake up the pacing - bosses or other moments? Idk.
A really incredible achievement for 72 hours. Congrats on your 2nd win! The game is a lot of fun, and sprite work is really cute. I don't have much to add that hasn't been said above. Just wanted to say congrats!!
@crefossus I'm glad you enjoyed it! Honestly I don't sleep much at all during it and I defaulted what I'm used too which is ol' 8bit games, Nintendo style.
Yeah and actually the reason the screen doesn't scroll faster was due to some bugs I didn't have the time to iron out, same with the vertical scroll being the way it is. If I were to make this into some fully developed I'd make the screen scroll more like Metroid (with doors, and vertical "shafts".)
That's the sad part about jams you don't get enough time to figure things out, the original plan was to have separate planets but then it ended up being one big world to save time. I did envision some audio logs and bosses like my previous attempt at LDjam metroidvania but then I would of lost out on valuable polish.
There is one humour moment which was at the end, with that cheeky ending ;)
Again really glad ye enjoyed it! Still shocked I won to be honest, so many great games submitted.
@cameron-paxton Thanks! I thought Karawan was great! I loved the audio and art on that, it was seriously next level stuff, (and the gameplay.)
@sinclairstrange I did enjoy the ending little :D face guy haha. Also I was thinking about this and realized I had forgot about the initial huge moment when you collect the first piece and have to escape. That definitely had an impact on me since you did a good job creating tension graphically/audio and with time pressure. Stuff like that is what I meant it doesn't have to be a boss. Although I imagine the amount of work that went into that is basically like a boss...Anyway you can't get higher than #1 :D
I welcome all those who like to spend their free time playing online casinos. I came across an interesting article https://sizzlinghotspot.com/darmowa-kasa-bez-depozytu/ with an overview of bonus programs, which you should also read.
