Decent game.
The windows build isn't working for me. I see assets and game.program when unzipped but no exe to run.
No exe to run, or I don't know what sdk to download.
Same issue here I couldn't find an EXE on windows :/
guyz i uploaded win version now, i was having some troubles with compiling
Sorry man wasn't sure how to install what it said in the directions. Couldn't play.
@ethanthopkins thx, i forgot to put instructions, it's just arrows/WASD and M/N to mute/unmute
I really liked the gameplay and as you grow at different speeds in each material, it gives the game a little bit of strategy. I think it would be nice if you had some kind of overview of its root when the game is over
Unfortunately my pc isn't a potato (just a halfbred), but i'm sure it would run on everything.
Quit fun game. Super catchy music. Was a bit confused until i found out how to control my little tree :palm_tree: After i found out diagonals (are they intentionally?) it got really fun.
I was wondering, is there an end or does everything turn into stone eventually? Highest i got wos around 300 :D
@sirrafufl diagonals are intentional, the game only "ends" if you grow your root to eat the entire 1 million block map, or reach depth 1000, you choose how to define ending
I like the game! It's simple, but cool. Now some suggestions: - The music is very loud, and the only option it mute or unmute. I would like to see a volume controller. - At the beginning, it was confusing. I tried to press the movement keys for just a little, and I wasn't moving. Had to figure out that holding is the only way to break the blocks. Maybe including in the how-to-play instructions that the player should HOLD the movement keys instead of PRESSING them would be helpful. - I would like to see a GitHub page for the game, with the source code (want to check the noise algorithm) and also bug reporting.
@gnevesdev * release build 002 will change that * i'll also change the how to play at the game's page * local repo will be published today
The game is very simple but very captivating, I liked the idea and especially the fact that the deeper you go, the harder the game gets and the scarcer the minerals get, the music is good, but it is a pity to have only one.
:heavy_check_mark: The **music is fantastic**, easily the best thing from the game. Upbeat and funky, I could listen to it for hours :musical_note:.
Props for making the game in **C+SDL**, I can't wait to get my hands on that code, always wanted to see some SDL in action in a small game :P
:x: The game design seems to be that of a rather slow game, which is why it seems weird to me that it's paired with this type of music. I think you should either speed up the game by changing the concept, or maybe suit it with another kind of music to make it more of a relaxing/chill experiencie.
*PS: if you're into coding and linux, you might like my game, it's a bit niche so that's why I'm personally recommending it x)*
It always feels good to see an entry that was made the hard core way (no game engine). Tiles look nice, idea is cool and music is great. Admittingly I turned it off after 15 minutes as it wasn't getting harder and I had plenty of remaining time stocked and ore in sight. But I understand it is hard to find time to balance difficulty, especially with the amount of work it took to code it from scratch. My only real complaint is some sort of different movement system could work out better, as my fingers were starting to hurt, it ended up feeling like I'm really digging through earth and stone. Nice entry all in all.
@train27 and @gnevesdev github page is open!
Really enjoyed the music. Added a lot of depth!
Music is a bop
Great job, loving the music. Check out ours!!
Yay for a Linux-first game and it being open source! Simple idea but pretty well executed.
I barely play the game but i rated/commented it for you're fair trade :D Cool idea by the way !

Thought I'd be able to screenshot my score at the end too, but oh well! The game had a nice vibe to it, and navigating around was quite fun for the first five minutes or so. Then I noticed I have more time left than I've already been playing, and implemented this cheeky strategy. I think it's safe to see the game might need a small balance tweak :) Other than that, good job! It's a nice little game, and the music bops.
Quite a fun little game! Great job!
I liked the game, I would recommend some difficulty rebalance and options for setting up music volume. Good job!
Fun game, a few adjustement and the music would have been in rythm with the player's speed :D
@binaryprinciple the new version has volume control and I'm also working on balancing, changing stuff like only having ~70 golds per million blocks(the actual world size)
@omnes-ludos ok, I will try it.
Nice work, the fact it's all in C/SDL is impressive. It would be cool to have some kind of victory screen if you reach the end with your time displayed. I liked the stripped back gameplay and while I'd like something with a bit more depth if it were a longer game, for a game jam the gameplay worked. Nice music too!
nice digging. Had a hard time getting started as I didn't properly read the page. A hint in-game would have been nice  After getting used to the controls, it seemed impossible to die, I managed to rack up over 2min of playtime in < 2min playtime.
Cool diggy game! Didn't realize you can actually dig through rock so I was zig-zagging all the way down though normal earth (to ~250ish) Simple enough gameplay, and energizing tunes, pretty good. Would have loved to hear some sound fx on digging or hitting water.
Very interesting concept! Gameplay is simple, but I liked your idea. Also I liked music, I will save it for my playlist:)
Really cool idea. We thought about something with tree roots too, but we decided that it would be too hard to make it fun... but this game is the proof, that it is possible! The game plays really nice with a lot of cool features like the different types of blocks that need different time to grow through. The difficulty is nicely balanced by the fact that the ground gets harder and harder the deeper you get. The fact that this is written in SDL makes it even more impressive! One thing I wish was in the game is a highscore since it's hard to tell how deep you really got. Other than that, really nice game! :D
This is a neat Idea. I could see this really coming to life with a significant difficulty increase and upgrades of some kind.
Things I would change if you had more time.
----Move time left to a more important screen position like top center or top bottom and make it bigger. or bold or something ----When you pickup water,or other minerals add a text popup that says +x Seconds ----Add a particle effect each time you damage another block, or each second you are mining in a direction
Thanks for uploading the windows version!
#teamtrees
Really interesting interpretation of the theme! I liked this a lot, although I feel some sort of feedback/animation when you're mining a block would help a lot, kind of like in Minecraft where you can see the block become more and more cracked before it breaks as you're hitting it.
Nice game! Music is very cool, and I really like how it's more efficient to go back along your own root. My strategy was to collect a bunch of water and stuff when it was easy to dig and then just go straight down. I made it down to like depth 550 before giving up. My feedback would be that maybe it would be fun to have an ending so to speak, I wasn't sure if it was endless or not. Another thing that would be cool would be some kind of upgrades, maybe just temporarily dig faster or something to give the player some more goals to chase. But really well done, I enjoyed it.
The audio is great, I really enjoyed it. The game was interesting. I wish there was a little bit more feedback as to what the tree was doing, maybe have a small window of the tree wilting or something? Also I wasn't sure how the game really worked right at the beginning, I may have missed something but I don't remember seeing anything. Either way great job!
pretty cool game! only thing is i wish there were some powerups. Like maybe some allow you to break through concrete, or you get like a 10 second boost where you move at 2X speed
