Great work in changing it up into the dungeon. Level transition could have been a bit clear. It went from vertical scroll to a black screen. A text 'level up' would have felt better. Again : creat mix up of game mechanic. That was a nice touch.

cdkml 2021-04-26 07:32

Love the mechanics and animations! I wish it had some music tho. Good work!

refrax295 2021-04-26 07:47

I love the look and feel of this game and the switching between open and submerged areas is an interesting mechanic.

wuppos 2021-04-26 21:51

@mdotedot Thank you for your feedback! Yeah, maybe it would have felt better if the screen transitions had a bit more to them.

wuppos 2021-04-26 21:53

@cdkml Thank you for playing! Yeah, I planned to do music, but as I have no experience at all in doing that I ran out of time

wuppos 2021-04-26 21:53

@refrax295 Thank you for playing :D I am happy you liked it

stuartc 2021-04-26 22:12

Really cool idea with the swapping in and out of water. Very snappy platforming, though the initial jetpack boost felt a little aggressive and maybe should be more of a dampening effect. Overall a fun game

knipsch 2021-04-26 22:25

Beautiful game! The visuals are quite lovely and the color palette is fantastic. Animations look great, specifically the run cycle and the 'poof' when you hit spikes. The mechanics are simple and mostly standard for a platformer, but very well executed. The WebGL build was ever-so-slightly jittery, but I don't think I would have noticed if the developer hadn't mentioned it. One of the major strengths of the game is its level design; the simple mechanics are used in a new way in each level, and the amount of challenge was well-tuned. I felt a sense of accomplishment when I was able to get past some of the harder spots. I really enjoyed playing it!

wuppos 2021-04-26 22:34

@stuartc Thanks for playing, and thanks for your feedback! Now I take a second look at the jetpack, I think you are right, it is a bit aggressive.

wuppos 2021-04-26 22:37

@knipsch Thank you for playing! And thank you even more for taking the time to write all your thoughts down! I really try to improve my game-design skills, and this helps tremendously :D Yeah, the WebGL port was something I did last minute, so I did not have time to polish it (literally the last hour or I saw the HTML5 button in Unity and thought that would be convenient).

audiobusting 2021-04-26 22:46

Looks and plays amazing! Some of the jumps are sooo tight, but I like the ramp up and pacing of the platforming in general  I'm also glad to see that there's a pay-off at the end...!

knipsch 2021-04-26 22:50

@Wuppos Yes, of course! And I'm really glad you made a WebGL build, it makes it much faster and easier to play your game.

wuppos 2021-04-26 22:56

@audiobusting Thank you for playing! I am happy you liked it :) Haha, yeah, for the longest time during development the 'treasure' was just an empty room. That did not feel great, so I decided to draw up some treasure chests :P

bubakgames 2021-04-27 06:40

Nice game wiith great level design. I Love the mechanics.

wuppos 2021-04-27 10:32

@bubakgames Thank you for playing! :D

rocketninjagames 2021-04-27 11:50

Cool game well done. Really liked those graphics and the sound effects. The only things that I'd mention is that a lot of those jumps are reaaaally hard to do. So I'd pump the difficulty curve a bit down and make them less tight. And also you could "cheese" a bit more oxygen by repeatly pressing the oxygen button instead of holding it. Don't know if it is intentional or not. Just manted to mention is.

Cool game

wuppos 2021-04-27 15:46

@rocketninjagames Thanks a lot for your feedback! It is really helpful! I understand what you mean with the difficulty. I guess I did not really notice myself because I made the game myself, haha Also, I did not know you could cheese extra oxygen! That was definitely not intended. Thanks for letting me know :)

jason-wilson 2021-04-27 18:17

I really liked this game. The pixel art is fantastic. Some of the later jumping puzzles were quite challenging to pull off, but stretched over a longer game they'd probably be appropriate. This is really well done. Great job!

minibobbo 2021-04-27 20:16

This was a lot of fun. I question the fluid dynamics of this game

Graphics were great for this. I really loved the muted palette with the minimal colors. The animation was simple but really worked. I also thought that the game was challenging but fair. I finished it in a few minutes. The last room was the hardest and probably took over half a dozen tries, but I got there.

Nicely done!

potatolain 2021-04-28 03:42

I really enjoyed this! Your graphics are great, and really create a nice undersea feeling. I see a few mentions of the jumps being difficult, but I think the last commenter really nailed it with saying it was challenging but fair. The mechanics felt smooth and consistent, despite the difficulty - it's pretty obvious you put time and effort into this. The last stage or two were hard but I got through, and it felt dang rewarding to get to the final screen.

I really think you nailed how long/difficult to make screens, and saving your progress every screen definitely helped too. This is one of few games in this style that I have really enjoyed; most of them are too hard/unforgiving for my liking.

I always try to give some critical feedback, (especially when the creator is looking for some!) so I'll mention that music might have helped the feel of the game a bit more. That said, I don't really have a lot else. Your graphics and game mechanics were extremely solid, and those are two of the bigger things for me.

Thanks for a fun game - this is probably one of my favorites so far!

maximbegunov 2021-04-28 08:05

I liked your game, it is very polished - everything feels great and on top it has some nice little effects like particles when you walk and jump into the water. Great graphics - simple but very good-looking with nice selection of just a couple of colors, very consistent and the tiles are :fire:. I couldnt pass one one the levels I think near the end but the game didnt feel unfair at all - jumping is well done, I just wasn't good enough.

wuppos 2021-04-28 09:27

@jason-wilson Thank you for playing! Outside of making games I have never done much art, so I am happy you liked my pixel art :)

wuppos 2021-04-28 09:30

@minibobbo Haha, this water does what it wants :P This was the first time I decided to work within a color palette, so I am happy you recognized that. I also think it came out nice :) Thanks for pushing through and finishing it! It makes me happy to hear that you did

wuppos 2021-04-28 09:35

@cppchriscpp It is nice to hear that you thought the difficulty was just right! I guess it really depends on the person who is playing. I myself really like challenging (but fair) platformers like Celeste, but I guess that is not everyones cup of tea I agree that music would have made this game complete, and I planned to do some. Unfortunately I have never made any music before, so I did not have enough time for this time. I will practice with that so that I can do it in a future game jam :) Thank you very much for playing and your elaborate feedback! I really appreciate it :D

wuppos 2021-04-28 09:39

@maximbegunov Thank you for playing and your kind feedback. It is really amazing to hear people enjoyed my little game :) I took extra care to add those little game-feel effects like particles, sounds and screen shakes. In a previous game jam I learned that does things are not just nice, but really enhance the fun of the game as well. So I am happy you noticed them :D

onnofal 2021-04-28 13:06

Treasure. Feels so good to control - that is a very good job and important thing done right. Looks fantastic too, I appreciate the detailed starting scenery and fine tiny animations and particles. And the whole idea. Pleasant surprise. Bubbles in water does not fit in the art style, but that is a (literally) tiny detail.

wuppos 2021-04-28 15:16

@onnofal Thank you very much for playing! I am happy you liked it I agree with what you mentioned about the bubbles. It is actually true for all particles I use in the game, and it is one detail I am not very happy with. I don't know if you know Unity, but there I tried using the 'Pixel Perfect Camera' component to make all those things pixel perfect. However, for some reason it stopped working and I could not figure out why in time. Thanks again! :D

onnofal 2021-04-28 15:25

@wuppos No worries. With particles I would not care, it is visible only if you are really examining it and looking for imperfections. They fit fine. Same simple approach may work for bubbles as well. Or as you say - the pixel perfect camera unity package, but I have no experience with it either and this jam was already too hectic for me for looking into it :)

zimny11 2021-04-28 21:35

A really well-made platform game. You were right, there was a lot of spkies! I had a lot of fun playing. The only thing missing is some fitting music :)

rngames 2021-04-29 00:25

✔️ This is an excellent example of keeping it simple and really focusing and polishing one mechanic. Well done!

✔️ The pixel art was also really nice.

✔️ The difficulty curve was on point.

➖ My only critique was that there was no music

litmuszest 2021-04-29 00:51

This was great! Controls felt good and I felt the difficulty was right in my sweet spot of challenging but doable for some of the later stages. I like the colors you chose as well. Could have done with some music to round things out, but overall, great game!

wbertrand 2021-04-29 01:03

Awesome art! And the mechanic of going in and out of the water is really cool, and makes for interesting platforming! Really fun, only comment I would add is that the spikes could have used a little more contrast to stand out!

wuppos 2021-04-29 07:14

@zimny11 Thanks a lot for playing! I am happy you liked it ^_^ Haha, I agree about the music. For my next game I will try to make some (although it will probably come out horrible :P)

@rngames This is a nice way of giving feedback, thank you! And of course thanks for playing :D

@litmuszest Thank you for playing! Good to hear the difficulty was just right for you. This seems to be quite different for each person

@wbertrand I see what you mean about the spikes. I guess especially the ceiling spikes blend in with the ground tiles a bit too much. Maybe it would have worked if I made them blue as well. Thanks for the feedback and for playing :)

oc1d 2021-05-01 10:31

Nice!! Had a lot of fun. Reminded me of H.E.R.O. please add a TIMER for speedrun -.-" :D

some music would be nice, but good sounds all in all!

crazybot 2021-05-01 10:54

I had a lot of fun with this, it feels incredibly polished and very nice to look at.

I also loved the water - air jetpack mechanic!

Unfortunately i got stuck at this part, as I have no idea how to get past the second water area. firefox_Y8WmQITL1Q.png

still had a ton of fun with it though!

duck-reaction 2021-05-01 11:09

I have to admit, this game really surprise me (in a good way) ! Before start playing I said myself "a game in water, again...", BUT the mechanic of the jetpack and the transition between ground phase and water phase it's very original and entertaining.

Retro art and sound fx are very polished. The character animation is perfect, controls are smooth and the level design is pleasant. I would like a background music to create a more immersive gameplay. I like the idea of making the character speaking at the beginning to help the player understand what he have to do.

The game is hard sometimes, that's good, it's remember my old games. Hopefully, the player don't have to to restart the game from the beginnig

One of my favorite game !

wuppos 2021-05-01 11:16

@oc1d Thank you so much for playing! I am happy you liked it. I am sorry about the speedrun timer :( It would be very easy to add one, but I feel like that would be against the rules of the gamejam?

wuppos 2021-05-01 11:20

@crazybot Thanks a lot for playing! And thanks for letting me know where you got stuck, that is useful to know :) That part is indeed tricky, the first jump is really tight. With the second water part I guess you mean part where there is just a very little bit of water above the spikes? The trick here is to keep spacebar held while you jump, so that you immediately jet out of the water again. I would show you, but I dont have any recording software :/ I am happy to hear you enjoyed it anyway! ^_^

fpeg 2021-05-01 11:29

Made it all the way to the end! Really nice game :) Animations is nice and the palette is cool too! Would've been awesome with some music tho :P Well done!

oc1d 2021-05-01 11:29

@wuppos oh... why do you think it is against the rules? Maybe we made a mistake as well?

bauke-regnerus 2021-05-01 11:33

The pixel art looks great, with a pleasant color palette and subtle use of particles. The audio fxs are spot on. By times the game was a little too hard and frustrating for me. But overall a surprisingly solid platformer. I love you how stick to the basic concept and try to make the most out of it. Well done!

sekol 2021-05-01 12:17

Beautiful graphics with nice colors, fun gameplay. Good sound, only the hit ground sound is a bit annoying :) I liked the initial screen a lot. Great job!

adaxxas 2021-05-01 12:25

Level design is on point ! I got often surprise on the ways you used the jump when we get out of the water And animations are really cool :) A little music in the background would have been a plus maybe

wuppos 2021-05-01 13:22

@oc1d I found this on the rules page. I guess you can interpret it as you want :)

temp.PNG

wuppos 2021-05-01 13:24

@fpeg Thanks a lot for pushing through and making it to the end! It makes me really happy to hear that you did :D Music would have been great, I agree. I will try to practice making music for the next jam :P

wuppos 2021-05-01 13:27

@bauke-regnerus Thank you very much for playing! Indeed, the game is hard and frustrating. It seems that some people enjoy that, whereas other dont like it at all. Thank you for your input!

dyroks 2021-05-01 13:27

Even though the gameplay is pretty simple, it's really well executed and feels great to play! Graphics are great too, but maybe a simple background music would really set the mood a bit more. I just wish each next level was selected randomly to really make the game replayable, but for a compo it's still really good, nice job!

wuppos 2021-05-01 13:29

@sekol Thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback! The hit ground sound was not very annoying for me, but I will take it into consideration. Thanks :)

wuppos 2021-05-01 13:30

@adaxxas Thank you very much! I am happy to hear you liked my levels! They took quite some time to get correct :D

wuppos 2021-05-01 13:33

@dyroks Thank you so much for playing and your kind words! I am happy you liked it :D How would randomizing the order of the levels make the game replayable? You would still play the same levels each time, but in a different order, right?

brainoid 2021-05-01 13:51

Finished the game. Physics, game mechanics and everything works perfectly. I liked the aesthetics and the overall look. I hated the game difficulty. I think the difficulty is based on getting used to the jetpack mechanic. And it has a long learning curve in my opinion. And you introduce difficult levels immediately, because you want it to be a short game since it is a jam I understand. But then it is a problem that I'm not ready to use the jetpack in that difficulty, though I have to face it. It just brought anxiety to me rather than "OMG how did I fail? Let's try again." . I tried to finish the game so I see all the content to review the game properly. That's usually what I want from my players. For them to see all the content I created. I liked the chest opening at the end, even having the simplest puzzle level design there was noice. :)

Oh, and teaching the controls on Main Menu is always my favourite :)

Thanks for the game.

oc1d 2021-05-01 14:14

@wuppos gotcha! afterwards.. yes that is true, I thought a timer for speed run was against the rules. need more sleep apparently:D

wuppos 2021-05-01 14:21

@brainoid Thank you very much for pushing through until the end, even though you did not like the difficulty! That is great dedication, and I appreciate it a lot! I try to do the same with the games I review, so I have a lot of respect for that :) I see what you mean, maybe a few extra jetpack levels would have been good. Just to let players get used to the mechanics more. Many thanks for your good feedback!
