What a pretty game! I did skip the instructions at first (as one does) and was a bit confused. Then I went to read them which made everything a lot clearer! A cool idea that is nicely supported by the visuals and sound. Well done!
@andidebob thank you for playing. Yeah, the rules of the game are unclear and the problem is that there is a lack of indication, that monster also moves between chambers with the character.
I love how this looks. The 'low resolution' aethetic is something that I really like. I totally dig the animation as well :) good work!
Fantastic visuals as always @tricky-fat-cat! Very much enjoyed floating around and getting bonk'd by the evil giant spider. I got all 3 keys and then searched for an exit but alas I couldn't find one - is it randomly placed?
The models / sounds / glowy VFX were great:thumbsup: Good job team!
@joedev thank you for playing. Yes the maze is randomly generated each playthrough and you have to explore it to find keys and exit. :) The visuals are great, but they're poorly optimised. I need to learn more about UE4 optimisation.
@plaskijakdeska thank you for playing!
Cute game :3 So funny i like it a lot !.
I like the style and it's got a pretty fun little premise, keeping track of your moves and the dungeon's layout with an invisible monster roaming nearby. Yeah, not bad at all.
I like visuals! It looks really neat. I try to play all games without reading instructions to see how they implemented tutorials. Unfortunately, in your game, I had to close it to read the instructions on the LD page.
But, overall, I like the game!
Also, could you please say for what purpose do you put coins outside rooms?
@eugenik thank you for playing!
@threaded-lama-digital thank you for playing.
@glitchman thank you for playing. Yes, there are a problem with explanation of the rules at the beginning.Talking of coins outside rooms, it's a bug, which we couldn't fix.
Really cool game. Nice jam! The graphics and sound are good.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere, great entry. Reminds me of "Solstice". Thank you for making this ! Maybe if you would turn this game into a full game, I would suggest adding some basic puzzle mechanics. As you mentionned, this was on the planning, but one can not have it all in a jam. Nonetheless , excellent entry, one of my favorites so far !
Hey matey, thanks for submitting your game to the stream! I hope my feedback is helpful, I really enjoyed the game! Here's the twitch vod if you wanna rewatch:

@doctortm thank you for playing!
@javasaurus much appreciate for playing during the stream. We actually planned some kind of platformer with different traps and puzzles in each room. But we didn't have much time to implement them (as usual).
@justcamh thank you for playing, much appreciate that you take some time to play our game! It's always helpful to watch how someone is playing your game.
This is really good. The mood is amazing. The visuals and sounds are adding so much to it. I enjoyed playing through it despite being bonked by the bonk monster a few times :)
Love the sprite work and the visuals. Very well done and I definitely understand the struggle of wanting to add more but not having time (from the comment above)! I'd love to see some continued development, as this could be a really wonderful full release title.
Keep up the good work and I hope to see you guys next Ludum Dare!
Although missing a tutorial the game was fun and had some great visuals!
Loved the visuals of the game. Really enjoyed the art style.
One thing that I would change is the animation after the teleport to the next room. It felt very slow and broke the flow of walking (floating) through the dungeon
The maze was neat. I like the way teleportation worked, and how you couldn’t reach some of the rooms by just wandering in one direction constantly. The fact that you can see the contents of other rooms from the one you are currently in really helps the navigation process. And at the beginning of the game, I was intrigued and scared of the big baddy.
But when I've managed to grab the 3 keys, the gameplay turned into a slog. Maybe I've missed it, but I had no idea how I was supposed to understand in which direction the exit was. So I ended up checking out every room there was, one after another, and it was kinda tedious.
Nonetheless, interesting spin on a dungeon crawler idea, good job!
@skelleroznik thank you for playing!
@chambre19 thank you. It's great to hear that the game could become a full game, however, I try to avoid such a practice.
@legolula thank you for playing!
@doriansnowball thank you for playing. Yea, the animation isn't good for teleportation, but we needed to add something to indicate teleportation process.:)
@annie-owl thank you for playing. Doubtlessly, the game has a problematic UX which causes a lot of troubles to players.
Fantastic visuals and models, I especially liked the old-sprite like looks of the main character. The overall mood of the game is very cozy and goes well with the gameplay.
WOW JUST WOOOW! I'm love with the aesthetic! Amazing effects. Very well done :smile:
Ребят, а если только черное окно с музыкой вылазит, что делать? Win 10 x64
@xpoho это проблема рендера Vulcan, есть странная штука, что при билде под DX игра съедала 99% видео памяти на пустой сцене. Vulcan работает не увсех, к сожалению, можно попробовать переустановить драйвера.
Beautiful work ! Loved it , the effects look sooo good
Damn, you guys really put and effort in the visuals, i really liked the room/cast spell mechanic and the tension going into the rooms and in my first playthrough i didnt knew how the monster really look like. I really like the flow of the game and is one of my personal favorite! I just didnt figured out what the coins can do...
@lesinvisible thank you for playng. I'm happy that you like the atmosphere.
@gazal thank you for playing!
@jmo14 thanks!
@lucas-viana thank you for your time. Each 50 coins you get an extra life.
Will you make a web build please?
@cheesepencil unfortunately, I can't, this game is made with UE4.
I liked art, but with time game becomes boring, if you add some more mechanics, this would be way more interesting. Other than that, this is good game. Well done!
As others have said, the visuals are great. I like the puzzle aspect of it as I spent more time than I would like to admit trying to find the red key. I did finally find it but I kept getting killed in the same room. Obviously there is a mechanic I'm missing or maybe I need to enter from a different room. Regardless I enjoyed the game and I think you all did a fantastic job!
This was a very different wxperience! I admit when I first saw the many gifs I was expecting a typical dungeon crawler experience, the maze exploration angle was quite interesting! I feel like with a notepad and pen it'd make it a lot easier - in fact they feel almost mandatory. But that's also kind of fun. :) The only thing I couldn't understand even from the instructions was how to tell exactly where the monster moves when you do. I know it moves to an adjacent room to the one it was in before, but which one is difficult to tell and thus really had to plan for and predict. It was also a teensy bit annoying that you are thrown to 3/3 when you lose a life, as when I had found all three keys, I returned to where I knew the exit portal was, and then got bonked in that room, so I had to go back to it again - it definitely shouldn't be
I'm curious as to why you have opted out of graphics! The visuals and presentation were absolutely excellent, the pixellated aesthetic looks great and I have always really loved it. The sound effects are humourous, even if the music doesn't feel it *quite* fits the atmosphere I assume you're trying to cultivate.
Overall though, a different and interesting experience with wonderful presentation. Well done!
@bobafett89 thank you for playing. We planned to add some puzzles an simple platformer mechanics, but we didn't have much time it create them.
@breadstix thank you for playing!
@pickens-inc thanky you. Talking of the monster, it always tries to follow the player and if you go to the room which is near to the monster, it's high likely that it also enters that room. Talking of the visuals, we opted out because we didn't create models at all.
Nice sounds and art style. Reminds me of old school times with Dungeon Keeper. Very cool .. shader, I guess? Also, I did not found how to quit the game (Ubuntu) :P It's like vim editor :-))
So I completed the game! In my opinion, forcing the player to memorize all connections of the rooms is a pain. It would be possible at least to place hints above the portals of the passages with the coordinates of the next room. However it's nice work!
Great job! I had fun with this game. I loved the low-resolution, it brought me back to DOS gaming days.
Cool idea. I think this needs some UI solution to indicate easily where the monster is. Thinking about grid coordinates, especially on a 45 degree tilt, is a lot of cognitive load. I think I would enjoy this if it involved a broader view of things, and planning out a route, rather than making a lot of very complex individual choices. Well done.
@room606 thank you for playing. To close VIM you should enter :wq
@katamary thank you for feedback.
@andrewaprice thank you for playing.
@rhoff95 thank you for playing.
Really love your visuals!
Nailed the visual style and sound design that's for sure ! The gameplay wasn't very clear though, it took me some time to realize what the coins did, what were the purple things that I picked up, and I'm still very confused about several things.
For example both the column 0 and the row 0 are very difficult to reach, sometimes portal would take you from 1 to 5, or from 1 to 0, same the other way around (5 to 1 or 5 to 0), having the rotated grid is already difficult to map out where you are going to end up, adding to that the inconsistent wrapping made it really seem like a maze. For the room preview I don't know if I misunderstood how they worked but oftenly I'd see a key preview, walked towards it, but would never reach it even after a couple room. Also is there a reward for exploration ? My lives and scrolls would randomly go up, sometimes by a lot, I had like 5 lives and 0 scrolls, the next room I had 9 lives and 4 scrolls without picking up anything.
The limited scrolls idea is interesting, but since you don't know where the monster is going to go, unless you're really far you pretty much have to use a scroll every room, or at least every couple room, especially considering the map is pretty small. And when you run out you're just blindly moving hoping to not land on the monster.
Took me a while to get what to do, but after a little bit of wandering it started to make sense. The coins giving you extra ~~bonks~~ lives was a nice touch as it both helped you recover from your mistakes and gave you a "shiny" thing to keep you wandering around looking for more. It was a bit strange they were visible from outside the rooms, but it worked. The graphics were aesthetically pleasing (though the music didn't really fit the mood, imo) but all things considered it worked well enough. Idk why but I really like the triangular transition fade lol.
One thing I think would have really been beneficial is some visual representation of the rooms that you and the boss are in aside from just the numbers. Not necessarily a full minimap or anyhting, but even just an arrow pointing in the direction would be super handy. I got myself turned around a few times forgetting which axis was which number.
Overall, a pretty solid entry!
@asfdfdfd thank you for playing!
@patatenouille thank you for your feedback. I recognise, there are a lot of UX problems, we had several ideas to make it better, however, we didn't have time to implement when. Eventually, I decided, that it's better to deliver a game with minimum bugs, than trying to implement new mechanics in hurry.
@guitarbro thank you for playing. Yeah, we understood that we should have added some additional interfaces or indicators which could have helped players to understand where they are.
Screenshot_9.png
