Great concept. The lasso idea is clever. The art does seems to be a little confusing in terms of perspective (like elevation, depth) but this may be on purpose! So its just personal preference. The lasso does make me a bit dizzy after doing it a couple of times lol

lukebandy 2020-10-05 17:27

Cool mechanic and well polished. It would be great if there was another mechanic to get the cows out of corners!

webox 2020-10-05 17:32

@newbiedev thanks a lot for playing!! Sorry for the dizziness haha, as for the art, I'm more of a programmer and I got really confused with the walls tiles, they ended up a bit messy yes.. Something to improve in the future

@lukebandy thanks for playing!! They do move by themselves if you let them be for a few secs, but yes it could be cool to extend it to a pull mechanic. Thanks again! :D

azagaya 2020-10-05 17:46

Great game, really fun. I find it relaxing! The Pixel-Art is really cool.

rhewid 2020-10-05 17:55

really chill game, I thought at first that you only need to close the loop but then Ive seen that you need to use space :D great game overall! Nice graphics and sound - keep it up

danielcmcg 2020-10-05 18:03

Really innovative mechanic, also, really nice art style. Took me a while to adapt to the controls in the keyboard though.

hyblis 2020-10-05 18:07

The game is beautiful, but I found it a bit frustrating how the llamas (?) got stuck in corners. The concept is amazing though!

webox 2020-10-05 18:37

@rhewid Thanks for the feedback! I just removed the need for pressing space, A LOT of ppl told me the same, you've got to listen to the ppl!! haha.

@danielcmcg Controls are fixed now, you don't need to pres space to teleport the cows!

@hyblis fixed!! Thanks for the feedback! They don't get stucked to the wall anymore

freddyturbina 2020-10-05 18:54

I love it!! the tragic story and the music make a great mood! Also the gameplay is Really solid!

sayuri 2020-10-05 18:54

Really enjoyed graphics and gameplay. It was so fun to play. But I'm not sure about "E" button. It could be more fun if it could auto complate it when you cross over the rope. But timing that press is fun too.

coding4rtist 2020-10-05 23:19

Great game, enjoyed playing it. The lasso mechanic is very cool and innovative!

geroblacksmith 2020-10-06 02:39

Really creative way to interprete the theme, the effect of the jetcows reminds me of hyper light driften(<3), estetic really neat, great work!

webox 2020-10-06 03:02

@freddyturbina Thanks a lot man! Really apreciate it! I'm glad you liked it!

@sayuri Hey I fixed that on an build earlier today! It's now played with J and K

@coding4rtist Thanks a lot for the playing! I'm glad you liked it! :D

@geroblacksmith Thanks a lot for playing!! I'm really glad you liked, It's an honor to be compared with Hyperlight haha

luis-oliveiras 2020-10-06 03:23

This game is amazing! It's beautiful, its simple and it's a very creative use of the theme! Congrats!

adil 2020-10-06 03:26

I love a realisation of theme and graphics, I felt myself like a cowboy :3

quoclon 2020-10-06 03:48

Solid. The mechanics made sense right away. The art style was consistent. The Lamas cute.

bicheste 2020-10-06 03:52

I saw the gif and I thought "this looks fun", it was. Very good job!

theseusinabottle 2020-10-06 06:08

Very fun game with an excellent use of the theme. Also would like to say I got real heavy pokemon ranger vibes from the idea of me drawing loops around things to capture/teleport them.

darkhex 2020-10-06 13:26

Very nice idea! I loved the pixel art but I think that Unity Pixel Perfect would make it even better. At least those ropes would fit other art.

pomo 2020-10-06 15:19

The loop mechanics were pretty fun and unique. Thanks for submitting it! -PomoTheDog

webox 2020-10-06 15:27

@luis-oliveiras hey thanks a lot for the kind words!! I'm really glad you liked it

@quoclon Thanks a lot for playing!! Mechanics maaking sense right away are the result of the players who played the first version haha so kudos to them too!

@bicheste Thanks a lot for playing man!! haha nice to see that the game lived up to your expcetations :D

@theseusinabottle Thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback!! I've never played pokemon ranger, but I'll look into it!

@darkhex thanks for the feedback!! Not sure what do you mean about Unity's pixel perfect, the ropes are a made using a line renderer, I'm not quite sure how to make it look more pixelarty.. any ideas??

@arthurds thanks a lot for playing!! Really nice and fun. stream! :D

infinitestatemachine 2020-10-06 18:09

This one is my favorite so far! We laughed out loud many times as the lasso hit it's max length and we were chasing it like a cat chasing its own tail. Nice work!

redtarantula 2020-10-06 18:17

Very enoyable game! Some of the scenario's sprites can be a bit confusing and the page on itch.io can kinda add to that confusion since the banner is pretty close to the game's scale and all. If you were to make the banner and the background darker than the game itself it'd look much better imo!

On the scenario, I'd suggest you to avoid using the wall's color on tiles that you can walk over! That should get rid of most of the things that might confuse some folks. Anyway, really great job on the game!

forgeronstudio 2020-10-06 18:18

This is an amazing game! Really atmospheric and polished. I especially love the little displays and messages all over the level.

How did you implement the looping mechanic? We have a similar feature in our game, and I'm amazed at how smoothly yours works. I would love to know how you did that!

aimainiac 2020-10-06 18:26

I like the use of the theme!

esphoros 2020-10-06 18:41

This game is awesome! It's very satisfying to play, the sound effects are pretty nice, and I liked the music. I saw somebody else suggest a mechanic to get the cows out of corners, and I think that'd be cool (not a huge deal, just it's a little frustrating to try get them out, it interrupts the flow of playing.) I found the layout a bit confusing, maybe because it's counter-clockwise, but it does add to the original atmosphere of not knowing the character's backstory. I liked the signs/posters that were on the wall, and the cool art and colour scheme added to the mood. Epic game overall

atonic 2020-10-06 18:46

Impressions

The movement of the player character was extremely satisfying. I found myself herding the animals to try and catch as many as possible in a single loop. I was focused on the experience of the core mechanics that I missed everything else that was going on. I would have liked to see title cards or some other way of bringing your additional elements into the game.

Overall, I had a very good impression from your game.

Theme

I saw that the loop element was well explored by the game, but I would have liked to have seen the stuck part of the concept applied too. Perhaps you could have the loops hold the animals instead of immediately teleporting them out. It would have interesting implications on how to achieve an area clear.

Riffs

I would love challenge modes. Off the top of my head. - Good and bad animals - only remove bad animals - Time attack - capture as many animals in as short a time as possible with as few loops as possible. - Rush mode - keep the number of spawned animals below a threshold, with the spawn rate ever climbing. - Multiplayer rush - when you teleport animals, they appear in your opponents field.

cg-fred 2020-10-06 18:49

Awesome game! Very well made and fits the theme nicely. Never knew that herding cows would be that fun!

shubi-oni 2020-10-06 19:20

I really liked the concept of the game, very entertaining. Even though I'm terrible playing it. The graphics are fantastic.Good job!!

webox 2020-10-07 00:13

@infinitestatemachine thanks a lot for the feedback!! hahah yes, that happened to me several times during dev and it's super fun

@redtarantula Thanks a lot for the feedback!! Yes tbh, I spent very little time on the itch page, I should put a bit more attention to it, I gues I just assumed everyone was going to play full screen

@forgeronstudio thanks for the feedback!! I'm glad you liked the game!! YES somebody noticed the little messages and stuff I tried to tell with the signs and stuff!! Thank you! :D ... As for the loop, I think I should write about it since several ppl asked me how I did it. Tbh is really simple and I actually though it's a really bad implementation, but I can share it! :D

@aimainiac thank you!! Glad you liked it

webox 2020-10-07 00:22

@esphoros Thanks a lot for the feedback!! layout was done extremely quick, since I lost a lot of time with the other mechanics, so I'm actually surprised that I don't have tens of comments telling me that it sucked haha, I agree 100%, It's something that needs to be worked on. I'l take your suggestions into consideration if I decide to iterate again!!

@atonic WOW, that's some super high quality feedback right there!! Thanks A LOT for taking so much time to write all that, extremely useful and insightful. I LOVE the challenge modes, I can see myself implementing them if there's some kind on interest on it. Oh the thing you mention about holding the animals, you see this game actually was designed using a "OMG I'm not making it in time" design approach. That's actually my first idea, and the character was actually a cowboy who couldn't make a lasso, with a funny approach. I ran into so many bumps along the way, that the game mutated SEVERAL times, a decisive one was the teleport mechanic. I just wasn't able to do the holding all the cows mechanic, it's really glitchy and didn't worked.. SO I made a quick manouver and say to hell with it, it's a telporting lasso.. and it's a robot cowboy now haha.. Thanks a lot for playing and for taking the time to write all that.. you rock!

@cg-fred THANKS FRED!! It's always nice to hear those kind of words from an experimented game developer as yourself!! I'm glad you liked it!!

@shubi-oni haha sorry you couldn't handle it! It ended up being a bit too hard, and believe.. I toned the difficulty down A LOT!! thanks to players feedback very early on the last day.

ansoneh 2020-10-07 02:46

Really loving being a space cowboy! The lasso mechanic is great. Graphics are really cool as well.

matchaflavor 2020-10-07 02:47

This was pretty fun! I wish there was more to just wrangling the same type of cattle, but it's a nice short game with some decent artwork! I'm not sure if I have to add anything more than what's already been said other than that.

meatball 2020-10-07 03:01

Great artwork and awesome mechanic!

webox 2020-10-07 03:10

@ansoneh thanks a lot for playing!! I'm really glad you liked the graphics too!

@matchaflavor Thanks a lot for the feedback!! And for taking the time to play!

@meatball thank you!! I'm really glad you liked the art! I'm not an artist at all so that means a lot!

protagonist-kun 2020-10-07 07:14

Reminds me back to the good old days of playing pokemon ranger on my gameboy. Unintended nostalgia!

tamail 2020-10-07 10:32

This is a really cool idea for the theme! Loved how the tutorial was incorporated into the beginning of the game. The sounds and graphics are also really nice! Great job!

steventus 2020-10-07 13:06

Heya @webox, This game is goooOOOOD. In a good way, lots of things I love, let's go through the most prominent ones:

1) Movement feels really smooth and good. Especially for a game about catching floating horses with a lasso, I appreciate the movement in this game. I find myself sprinting the entire game so I think you may as well make that the default movement if anything.

Very enjoyable!

2) Lasso takes a bit to learn but it is quite satisfying to make work! I enjoy the game a lot!

Some qualms I have:

1) This game would definitely shine so much with some funky music! Although you don't really have an audio category to rank on so that's fine.

Otherwise, this game is fun to play! I love it from the start to the end!

marcmagus 2020-10-07 14:45

Cow heads looked more like horses or donkeys to me, but whatever they were, rounding them up was satisfying. Fun to play, nice entry.

forgeronstudio 2020-10-07 17:42

@webox That would be great! I thought it worked really well, and I'm sure lots of other people would be interested too!

jaoel 2020-10-07 20:35

Really nice art style. I found it hilarious that the horse and cows (or llamas?) are rocket powered! Movement and sound effects are really nice. I tried to catch as many as possible in one lasso. I think getting extra points for doing that would've made a really cool mechanic.

macaroni-dev 2020-10-07 23:51

The core gameplay felt so good now matter how many times I did it. And the art was great - the color palette in particular of browns and that green was perfect for space wild west.

The only things that I thought could be better

* The lassos never went away, which cluttered things up. * There was no downside to sprinting so I did it constantly. Having a cooldown/duration would give me a resource to manage and I think that'd be fun.

Loved it!

webox 2020-10-08 02:22

@protagonist-kun @tamail Thanks a lot for playing I'm really glad you liked it! :D

@steventus hey! Thanks a lot for the kind words, I spent a lot of time on the lasso and the movement that I alsmot missed everything else haha, that's why it's so short, Spriting was supposed to have a cooldown or something but that feature was cut out too. Now that you say it it could indeed be the default movement, but I liked the camera moving away kind of effect. Thanks for playing and for the feedbacK!

@marcmagus hey marc!! haha yeah my artistic skills are not the best, thanks for the feedback and the stream as always!

@jaoel haha they were supposed to be cows, but a lot of ppl beleiived they were llamas, so whatever works best for you xD .. I should expand it to other modes that could include that kind of mechanics that you say!

@macaroni-dev thanks a lot for the nice feedback!! Lassos were supposed to disappear after a while, idk what the hell happened, and didn't really had time to look into it.. but that's 100% a bug haha. As for the cooldown, yes totally agree, it's kind of cutted out feature.. I really spent too much time with the lasso and the movement, Not my best time management for this LD haha.

guitarbro 2020-10-08 02:41

Really interesting game you've got there. I didn't quite get the point was to loop around the horses at first but I caught on eventually. Would have liked a little more story or progression other than just "more horses" but what was there felt pretty nice. The sprinting was a nice touch too.

seanarooni 2020-10-08 03:27

very cool idea, very on theme. Maybe the only thing I'd change is a way to toggle on the sprint mode since I felt like I was just holding it down the whole time. Well done!

guimoliveira 2020-10-09 13:36

Nice idea. There could be different images when moving vertically and diagonally. But the game is really cool, good job! :)

neithr 2020-10-11 05:10

I love it when catching many horses while in turbo mode. Also love the tutorial design so player can learn the game much easier.

suchista 2020-10-11 17:10

Nice game with good feel (I like the camera movements). Gets a bit repetitive after a while. Still a good job tho :)

arron-fowler 2020-10-13 09:11

interesting take on the theme. Sound and graphics did the job nicely. I found the control layout a bit taxing but that is a minor gripe. Good job
