I really like the aeshtetic for this, and I think the visuals look good. With some sounds etc I feel the ambience would be brilliant too, as it is pretty good without it.

tarfield 2020-04-21 12:38

As the other commenter, I think this game would benefit from sounds.

I really liked the textures and design. I also love the way you interact with monsters and objects. This game brings me back :)

vartagh 2020-04-21 12:42

need sounds...keep up working!

fpeg 2020-04-21 12:50

Good-looking and funny :) It's nice to only pet monster till they fall asleep instead of slashing them into bits for once. A bit more decorations (plants or something) to make the rooms easier to navigate through would have helped a whole lot, I felt that I got lost a bit too easily.

maxestla 2020-04-21 12:51

I like the aesthetics but it really needs some sfx :)

thecze 2020-04-21 13:02

not much to do but I really like the art style

danilshekarev 2020-04-21 13:12

I like it. But you need a sound.

maryush28 2020-04-21 13:42

Nice graphics (just as everyone else mentioned). Don't bother about sound, creating your own takes too much time.

Unfortunately I couldn't pass the first level. The level of consciousness drops a little too quickly. Due to the fact that everyone will probably play Your game only once or twice, you could have lower difficulty level to make it beatable in one approach.

And hats off for doing game in Python. See ya in the next LD jam.

ryan-harriman 2020-04-22 16:21

Cool atmosphere. I found it easy to navigate. In some games of this style I feel like each time i change perspective I am unsure where I am. In your game however I did not feel that way. Nice Job.

nefrace 2020-04-22 16:21

Really funny game, i didn't read the full description and at first time didn't understand what's happening :D Still really cool!

duskel 2020-04-22 16:25

This games really need some sound :c

wolfrug 2020-04-22 16:41

Hah, nice work. Very old school. I can see someone was betting on "turning a violent game non-violent" here :-D Although I was being quite violent in my thoughts towards the cute little lizards at the end there. I have a sneaking suspicion it's not as much endless as "looping" is it, as I could see no differnece (decor, enemies, layouts) between the first and second levels, lol. For gaminess could maybe have a high-score level trackers (how 'deep down' you got etc. Good work!

aznz 2020-04-22 16:57

They style form of the game gave it the nostalgic, which had great expectation. it was cute and scary at the same time. the lizard is super cute especially the way animate when they go sleep. uwu keep this up it has potential.

squid 2020-04-22 17:01

First game I played stuck me in a level with two rooms and no exit. After restarting I was able to power through 6 levels feeling like my heart was going to stop at 600% consciousness. Surprisingly addictive game.

bigquacko 2020-04-22 17:07

Great job! loved the graphics, and how you incorporated two themes.

rexgame 2020-04-22 20:01

Very great job !

the-jahn 2020-04-22 20:10

Those monsters are adorable. Great aesthetic over all. :)

pythooonuser 2020-04-22 20:10

Sweet little game! I like the monster art and the idea to put them to sleep.

junber 2020-04-22 20:33

The controls took a few minutes to get the hang of but once I did moving around became really easy and fluid. Some sort of progress indication would have been nice to make progressing through more levels more meaningful. The graphics look really neat and it's pretty cool to pet these cute monsters. Good job on this game.

hare-software 2020-04-22 22:05

Amazing that you managed to do this with python! Graphics are nice and the game feels solid. A good idea for Ludum Dare, well done!

toby-klauder 2020-04-22 22:08

Really enjoyed this one! As other folks mention, this game would certainly benefit with sound. However, I loved the graphics and the idea even more!

garett-cooper 2020-04-22 22:12

Fun game, and much harder than I expected it to be. I kept getting lost and couldn't figure out where I was missing monsters.

nutriz 2020-04-23 08:53

Hi, the game is not working in linux, it seems to be a missing “res” folder.

``` ⋊> ~/Téléchargements ./dozydungeon 10:51:20 GL_VERSION: b'4.6.0 NVIDIA 440.26' GL_SHADING_LANGUAGE_VERSION: b'4.60 NVIDIA' GL_RENDERER: b'GeForce GTX 980/PCIe/SSE2' Traceback (most recent call last): File "main.py", line 11, in File "main.py", line 7, in main File "core/game.py", line 52, in __init__ File "core/game.py", line 57, in initialize File "pyglet/image/__init__.py", line 175, in load FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'res/icon.png' [24763] Failed to execute script main ```
ilikescifi 2020-04-23 09:08
Ahhhh i get where we are going here. Nice idea. It reminded me a bit of Jason Rohrers games (do you know his work? if not: check it out and you´ll understand - he has this one game where it gets darker and darker...) - Anyway: pretty spooky with a little touch of Lovecraft :)
lesslwo 2020-04-23 09:16
@nutriz Huh, strange, it worked for me. I'll try to figure it out later, for now you can try grabbing the one in the windows build, and if that doesn't work too (please let me know), getting the non-"one file" version from itch.io. I'm still very inexperienced with packaging and distributing python stuff, so that happens, I guess.
nutriz 2020-04-23 16:02
@lesslwo it's working with the non one file ! I like the non-violent vision :).
dewittsmith 2020-04-23 16:49
I like the aeshtetics, but could you make some smoothness to the camera?
lestat 2020-04-25 03:54
Looks good, plays well, fits the theme. Good job!
sheinxy 2020-04-25 16:20
Ohhh, impressive :3c
I first love the graphics, they're amazing!
The game is pretty neat, I personnaly have never been the greatest fan of these kind of movement (like moving tile by tile in a 3d environment) because I have always found it confusing (but it's just my lack of 3d coordination speaking don't worry :p), but I find it impressive nonetheless! (especially for something made in python in 3 days!)
Too bad there's no audio music
Congrats, very impressive entry!
god-colo 2020-04-26 05:45
Pixel art Amnesia! :smile: I like the idea of grid based movement but 3D! :thinking: Greato Jobu! :smile:
binaryspark 2020-04-26 14:46
Lovely aesthetic, and I quite like the idea of petting a monster to sleep, lol. It's a little bit too difficult for me, but I really like this entry nonetheless.
belowzerogames 2020-04-26 17:30
It reminds of good old Wolfenstien 3d so right away I found myself hitting the spacebar to open doors. Sounds would make the game much funner to play.Otherwise good job.
quinn-patrick 2020-04-26 21:20
Nicely done and very unique. I found that I'm really no good at this sort of game, I just get lost, and find myself wishing for smooth conrol ala Wolfenstein. It was really funny, though, and I appreciate just how unique it is. Nice work.
daniil-tcyvakin 2020-04-26 23:13
Pretty nice game
damdoshi 2020-04-27 10:38
Your game is pretty. Textures and general style appeals me quite much. The tile based movement remind me Dungeon Master - in quicker because I don't have to play with my mouse :p - It is nice to have set a level generator.
Maybe adding a map would be nice (with progressive discovery, of course). In Dungeon master, the obvious exploration objective makes its absence quite nice: you have to draw a map by yourself, which is fully part of the game. Your game is a little more action oriented so... it may be better.
I miss music and sounds - Even some synth pads or some very simple chords (with an arpegiator (https://youtu.be/wsdoVewGD7Y?t=111 - https://arpeggiator.desandro.com/) for example! : o Of course, footsteps or sounds of spooky approaching with positioned sounds would be great, but music alone would already be a great addition.
Congratulation. Good work.
virtu 2020-04-28 16:39
Very interesting take on the theme. I like these retro graphics and overall feel of the game. It definitely lacks audio. It would greatly improve the atmosphere. Still very fun little game. Great work!
virtuaworlds 2020-05-02 08:00
Interesting game. I liked the little monsters and art. Wished there was sound effects and music but otherwise nice job.
tobiasw 2020-05-11 23:41
Aw, what a cute idea! I love that I'm petting the monsters to sleep instead of... well, what I'm doing in other games, I guess. Feels a bit weird that I'm "losing" when I fall asleep, considering that from the description it sounds like I'm doing this because they woke me up in the first place? Ah, and I like the look of it.
