"Now that's where the pillcollider-2D comes in handy!" and "Graphics: Ugly AF" were my favorite parts.

That was fun! I liked the hand drawn graphics! Managed to get 2/3 easter eggs, too! :)
Very cool style, the guitar music is awesome! the looping was a little weird but I'm not sure if it was on my machine or not. Either way very impressive, I would have taken 48hs just to make the soundtrack like that!
The terrain collision being "analogic" was really cool Congrats on the really fresh entry!
Love the hand drawn artwork, the take on the theme, story, humor, and characters and encounters in world! The soundtrack is by far the best piece in my opinion; it felt quite dynamic to what was occuring in game, I'm looking forward to dissecting your code to see how you pulled that off.. and speaking of your code, congratulations on completing the project in Unity! Taking on a new engine mid-way through a Compo is so daring, and you pulled it off!
Perfect! I wish it was longer, but that's about it. I like the graphics, and as for the music, well, I got stuck on the intro screen because I wanted to listen first, and pressing space would have broken the spell :)
Neat.
Wow, you are very quick with trying out my little disaster, thank you so much! I am still surprised that half an hour of guitar torture is being received such well.
---
@rombus Thank you, Rombus! The looping was definitely caused on my end, it's fixed now. The issue was that I rendered the clips with 2 seconds tail from REAPER, oh well! And I am glad you like the music!
@redhermit Thanks for playing and enjoying the few things that I managed to get working! And you'll have a field day with my code; provided you love spaghetti. I will do a code review of it, as always, in which I will try to defend my programming choices. At least now I feel a little more comfortable with Unity!
@frank-gevaerts You calling it "Perfect" is such an overstatement that I am not sure whether I should feel trolled or flattered, so I go with the latter. There's so much to improve (character motivations for one thing), but at least it serves as a vehicle for temp music
Played your game, had a sore throat, now I'm in pain. Best 10 minutes spent. Your Mood and Music are always so onpoint, and now you can add comedic writing to that list! :D Great game, I wonder if you're gonna stick with Unity or not after that experience? ^^
so let me say some of the down votes;s and the up votes 1.graphics as the setting's says "ugly af" 2.great comedy 3.a really good game for a starter at unity i mean my first game was a box colliding with a box 3.sound really good 4.the references were great i liked the rock reference i liked the game it was good but a tip don't look forward to be number 1 at graphics
I'm a sucker for humor so I loved this! Short but entertaining! I was laughing before the game was even launched (ugly af, and I dropped it down if there were other witty options!) I know you're better at graphics than this (6210 BC was cute graphics-wise) but I also know you struggled with Unity itself. Looking forward to what you can make in the next LD!
Thanks........
for nothing
I liked the ugly-af graphics and the very nice music! Good job Phil!
Wow so many people played it already! <3 And I am relieved that the graphics option set the right tone about what to expect: Bad graphics but with comedy!
------------
@polyethyleneglykol From your comment I take it that you're either a masochist or that you enjoyed the game ;) I wanted to do something funny for a change and looks like it worked out. And I both like and feel intimidated by Unity but I think I will stick to it -- in addition to GameMaker
@vrglab Haha thanks for playing and the feedback! I don't expect to rank high in graphics, but if my comedy gets me in the top 500 of humor, I shall be happy! :)
@ladymistleaf Thank you very much! I wanted to add more funny graphics settings but West of Loathing already did "The Good", "The Bad", and "The Ugly", and that's hard to top ;) I wanted to color my sprites ... "when I still have time", so programmer art it was.
@lomma You're welcome (I think)
@preda Thank you, Preda, glad you liked it! 🙇♂️
This was a fun game, and very Phil Strahl. I enjoyed it, though the humour could get a bit too insecure at times. It did live up to the theme very well, ergo the 5 stars it got there. I like the art style, and it'd be cool to see a bigger game from you with it at some point, although with some animation as well. The camera having the player at the same screenspace position all the time was a bit meh, along with the slow character speed. Then again, I understand what this game is. It's funny, and most of its value are in its adherence to the theme, its humour, and its cool art style. Reminds me a bit of 10000 BC, your LD 37 (?) caveman game, at least in how the main character looks.
Awesome Game 48 Hours. It looks so polished and that you nearly always have several endings is gorgeous.
Well Done, awesome work.
Fun little game! I couldn't find the last (middle?) ending though. I didn't feel up to methodically trying to proof out if certain items were needed for the launch or not.
Love it! Especially the writing and humor are great, I smiled almost all the way through. The graphics are actually pretty charming too, and the music floats along to the game nicely. I played to all of the three endings and liked the third one the most. So yeah, I really enjoyed this, just like all your previous entries, keep up just being awesome! PS: Is it a joke or just unintentional that it says 1, 2, 3 for dialog choices but there are never more than two? Or did I miss something?
"Now that’s where the pillcollider-2D comes in handy" :D I reallly like it. Great game.
@wfmg I find it amusing, that apparently I have some kind of "handwriting" when one of my creation looks like a "Phil Strahl" game ;) As for the humor, everything made it into the game without any interactions or revisions hence it's a bit all over the place and there's definitely room to improve for sure. Same goes for the camera and the player control, I was just happy that things were basically moving. As for animations, I took a quick look at how to do them in Unity and got utterly spooked. And the visual similarities to 6210 B.C. are due to the fact that I can't do characters at all so drawing meeples is my only option ;)
@deathstorm Thanks for playing and streaming and the nice words! :)
@taophoenix Thank you! You get the second ending when just having two things in your bag. But I don't think you missed much ;)
@erkberg Wow, playing all the endings without peeking at the underlying scripts (I assume!) is quite something, thank you for devoting so much time to my short and silly game! And good catch with the choices. I programmed the possibility of having up to three but my clumsy implementation with scriptable objects and hard-coded branching made having just two choices almost too cumbersome ;)
@neowhoru Thank you! That joke was literally thrown in at the last minute!
Nice adventure game. Humor, narrative and music were great, so naturally the game felt too short... but for 48h that's understandable. I could find the 3 endings though. Good job on finding the time to make different endings.
A few notes:
* Some picked up items display a message (like the GameBoy), but that message disappear after a few seconds. Sometimes, the message disappeared before I could read it entirely. For better consistency, all messages should be discarded * I don' know if that's intentional but the character was always facing left. * Graphics could have been better, but that's definitely a style that I enjoyed.
Lastly, a big Thank You for making your videos. Thanks to you, I started participating in Ludum Dare (#40 was the first) and other game jams. I always re-watch your post-mortems before a game jam :) Keep up the very good work!
PS: MacOS version works fine.
I think my favorite part was the pomit. This was a ride. The graphics, while crude and ... "ugly af" as you put it, lent a certain charm that was held together by the continuity of the art work. I'm more impressed that you've tried stepping away from GM, especially during a jam. Kuddos.
This was my first LD and the first finished game I've submitted to a jam. Like many here, I found LD and decided to participate because of your videos. Keep up the good work and I hope you had a great time making the game.
It fills me with endless joy to know that my videos really inspired so many people to join Ludum Dare and/or start making games in general! ♥ -------------- @fredfilo Thank you for playing and your notes! The reason for some text blocks to disappear after a while was that I had to discern between a dialog you're having with an NPC and short descriptions. I I thought I was real clever but in hindsight I agree, it would have been better to be more consistent. And yeah, let's say that the character facing one direction as intentional, not that I forgot to flip the sprite or anything ;)
@psychic-ash Oh really? The ”pomit” was the first stupid joke that I came up with after two seconds of thoughtful introspection and running low on time, I just went with it ;) I dabbled in Unity before but nothing serious, so why not decide to go all in after 18 hours? I had a great time, at least when it was done, but again I hit some low points in between. There will be a post mortem :) Oh, and congratulations on your first LD, and thank you so much for watching! :)
this is awesome! short and sweet, I like the jokes!
I was surprised at the use of the theme in this game. I really liked the ugly text at the beginning, the twist on the science of nothing. The use of nothing being something but still nothing and that nothing being important on how nothing it was. Congrats on pulling this game together out of nothing because you not only started with nothing you made a game about nothing starting with nothing with nothing to go on about nothing. So this review is probably nothing to talk about about nothing to start with. :D
@philstrahl As always a nice game with a twist and good humor, didn't expect to be able to pick up dwayne johnson 😂. I Liked it, and you made multiple endings. Nice...
Great humour Phil! I got all of the endings: 1 (no items), 2 (one items) and 3 (multiple items), but with the second ending it doesn't say 2/3 at the last text block. It's also annoying that the game quits when you press space (to play again) if you already finished before.
i love your post mortem work..and an awesome creation..back to nothing ..Amazing! Screenshot (49).png
I really like storytelling in this game and this doodle style is simple but cool. Great Work! Screen Shot 2019-10-19 at 6.11.31 PM.png
@emily-ghostbreze Thank you, Emily! :)
@commanderstitch Haha, thank you very much, there's nothing more I can add ;) I think I did well considering I started with … not a lot.
@incd021 Thanks, INCD021! Apparently my rock-thesaurus was worth it after all ;)
@mika-la-grand Thank you for you multiple play-throughs and the feedback, Mika! The reason behind the game quitting by itself was that I wanted it to be polite and not overstay its welcome ;)
@karanveer Thank you for watching and playing! :)
@tort60091 Thank you, Tort! Glad you liked the silliness of it all ;)
@philstrahl Well, It was fun, all parts of game work together very well. It's simple but sweet ;)
Daaaamn, man! You didn't forget to add keyboard controls for dialog this time! :D Thank you! What a wonderful game! You sure unwrapped all the layers of the theme, even the hidden ones. :) Guitar soundtrack works really well with this kind of adventures, you nailed it! Overall, the game looks carefully composed with all the elements fitting each other well. That's the art of polishing! :)
This was fun. I was able to find 1/3 and 3/3, but couldn't get 2/3. The theme interpretation was nice, and it was consistently funny.
Well done.
Nice work for someone who learned Unity in 48 hours! I couldn't find the 2nd ending, but was fun to play. Weird concept, but you ran with it nicely.
@yngvarr I thought of you when I added it in. You were right, of course, dialog flows better that way :) Glad you enjoyed the polish I managed to put in as well!
@hitchh1k3r Thank you for playing and finding it funny. The second ending is when you just have one or two things in your nothing, by the way :)
@mashupgames I didn't start completely from zero with Unity but it's been well over a year since I tinkered with it. Glad you enjoyed it! he second ending is when you just have one or two things in your nothing, by the way :)
After all this time, I decided to play it! I really liked it, and it was amazing for your first full Unity game!
