Not a bad game! Took me a minute to get the swing of things but then it was really fun! Loved the art style and the way that everything felt. Love seeing the things that people have been able to make with Unity on this site! If you want to check out my game you can here! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/dodge-the-box

rakowu 2017-07-31 18:36

I downloaded the game and read you instruction. I shuffled as you said, but I don't get it ^^"... Help?

conrad-etherton 2017-07-31 18:52

Very nice for your first game jam! Creative take on the theme, looks nice, and gameplay is enjoyable. I think being able to shuffle any time makes it a little bit too easy to do exactly what you want but having the different types of actions combined with the peaceful people works very well!

skippuku 2017-07-31 19:00

I love everything about this game. You win the "I'm going to keep this on my hard drive" award.

gmfk07 2017-07-31 19:20

178.74 high score. This game is pretty great, the sound effects make it really satisfying. My game was cut short when some rioter shot me from offscreen and I couldn't do anything about it, but it was still a really fun experience.

jmholland96 2017-07-31 19:22

Thank you @cymansap means a lot!

jmholland96 2017-07-31 19:24

Thanks for the feedback @conrad-etherton. And you are right about the shuffle, I probably should've made a smarter tile spawner.

jmholland96 2017-07-31 19:26

My bad @rakowu, the shuffle is just to avoid a stale board. The main gameplay involves matching the tiles.

stevenjmiller 2017-07-31 19:28

Cool game, I got 410.30 as my final score. I eventually died because an enemy was attacking from off-screen, so I couldn't attack them. Overall, this game was really fun and a nice take on the theme.

jmholland96 2017-07-31 20:21

Thanks @stevenjmiller it means a lot. And whoops I didn't catch that bug when playing. Thanks for letting me know.

jmholland96 2017-07-31 20:22

Sorry about the bug @gmfk07. Thanks a lot for playing.

justinooncx 2017-08-01 02:02

This is a pretty goddamn interesting game! At first, I was just blindly matching gems, but then I slowly learnt that you don't want to do that all the time~ The choices you had to make for each color was pretty novel, although the ability to reshuffle the board anytime you want and get a new set of gems sort of made the choice trivial. Still, it's a very neat game with a unique idea, I love it!

jmholland96 2017-08-01 11:32

@justinooncx Thank you for the feedback. And for playing!

100th-coin 2017-08-03 16:31

This was a lot of fun! I found that the red is the best, and the yellow almost never seemed to work. With a little more balance and polish this could easily be a super cool mobile game.

klianc09 2017-08-03 19:27

I tried running your game with Wine on Linux, but sadly no luck. Gonna have to try it out later on Windows.

irishbruse 2017-08-05 18:54

Tutorial really needed.

gumboot 2017-08-05 19:22

Innovative combination of mechanics, I really got into the flow of the game after a bit but I was never really sure why I would lose. Blue and Yellow only was my strategy.

superpokeunicorn 2017-08-05 19:24

Combining a match three game with a management game is a really neat idea. I like how the player has to balance treating innocent protesters fairly with self preservation. Some times I had no choice but to kill all because all I had were red tiles and I was in a tricky spot. Forcing the player make tough choices like that is really smart design. That said, I feel that my success in the game was determined by RNG most of the time. It's frustrating to get several patterns in a row without a row of 3. Despite that, I still had a pretty fun time with the game. The meaningful choices the player is forced to make on top of the game's wonderful visual aesthetic make this a really solid entry. Nice work!

jmholland96 2017-08-05 20:41

@superpokeunicorn thanks for the great feedback. I agree the game definitely needs more work with the balancing of the actions and a smarter tile spawner.

jmholland96 2017-08-05 20:42

@gumboot thank you for playing. You lose through hitting too many innocent protesters or getting hit by too many rioters. However it's probably too easy right now.

kabalatrance 2017-08-06 14:48

It took me a while to get it, maybe some tutorials would be nice. Idea, presentation and graphic and general feel of the game are awesome!

afroant 2017-08-06 14:58

Great entry! The graphics were top notch, and I liked having to match colors while at the same time keeping an eye on what kinds of people were walking around. With the right music and people noises, this game could get really addicting!

morphine 2017-08-06 15:03

Like everyone else has said, I think either you need to have a tutorial stage or a better written guide because I couldn't figure out what each color meant just based on iconography. It seemed like they all caused the robot to shoot and I felt like I didn't have any real control over what would happen when I picked something.

orcdraco 2017-08-06 15:14

The game was really fun to play and I really like the graphics :D Well done!

silkworm-sweatshop 2017-08-06 15:25

Really interesting and unique game! Took a while to understand the difference between red and blue but if you pay attention it's pretty clear.

antiwrapper 2017-08-06 15:47

It was a bit confusing at first getting into the game but after playing it for a while I got the hang of it, I think. A really fun concept executed well. Though it seemed that later on in the game the enemies got glitched because they attacked from off the screen and it even if you sniped them they would always continue to attack you which made it impossible. Also some music would have been nice.

Other than that though this is a very good game and a very strong entry! Good work!

franfox 2017-08-06 16:27

Hi there! Just notice that in both download pages your zip file is marked as Windows, Linux and Mac compatible but when I've tried to download from both sites there's only a Windows executable inside :(

ledez 2017-08-06 16:45

Really enjoyed. Its a fun game.

atridas 2017-08-06 16:46

Took a minute to get the game, but it's imaginative and quite fun. Well done!

simonhutchinson 2017-08-06 17:49

There's only a Windows version here.

zyow 2017-08-07 07:24

I spent 5 mn to understand how to shoot then I saw the gif ^^

160s for my first score. That was fun! Good job!

pavelsovushkin 2017-08-08 16:03

Cool Concept!

belga54 2017-08-14 10:57

Cool game ! The graphics are simple and beautiful, the sounds fits the game. ****(4/5) overall !****

drachmor 2017-08-14 20:15

201.45 whoop! I really liked this game! Took me a while to realize the mechanics, and at first it was a little difficult to both match colors and decide which colors to execute depending on the situation. After I got a hang of this mechanic though, it was really satisfying to see how long I could survive. I really like the simple art style, and the sound design is very effective. Overall, good job!

coauctor 2017-08-14 20:38

To my opinion, the idea has good potential. The core loop feels a bit shallow, but I believe there's a space for improvement. Definitely would play the post-jam version. Also, the graphics are smooth and simple. Cheers!

tmpxyz 2017-08-15 03:21

This is a nice idea. You've marked some interesting conflicts in this game, the mechanics is a little too simple though. You could expand this idea with more complex mechanics.

yetman 2017-08-15 15:19

Nice, got 438 points although I am not sure I understood the mechanics fully. It is a nice twist on matching game. The art is great and sounds were nice. I was annoyed by the fact that tiles don't fall down when the ones below it are matched but I got over it.

edmanbosch 2017-08-19 03:11

Really like this game, the gameplay was simple but fun, although I found it odd to use space for accepting menu stuff instead of something like enter. I hope you expand on it further beyond the jam. I do think that the "humor" and "mood" voting categories don't fit your game though, you should remove them.

piotrek 2017-08-21 01:23

The gameplay was fun and I really like the vector graphics. Good job.

2017-09-12 11:44

Nice game, clean graphics! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DrJOSU_FjM
