I liked the atmosphere and the presentation. I thought that the map was a bit too big for finding three objects twice.

I was interested to know what the old being would say, and the interactions with the objects of the world where a nice touch.

Good job!

aestheticgamer 2014-04-28 05:06

Interesting story, though was hoping for some more spices to the gameplay. However, it was a fun little romp, and got a little too into making the shadows open up.

tannernetwork 2014-04-28 15:03

It's a really good concept :) Also I like the graphics :)

2014-04-28 17:30

Ohh it doesnt Support Smartphones. ;P

tanjent 2014-04-28 17:38

Very good theme and atmosphere! An in game map would've helped a bit when the fog of war was gone.

mrexcessive 2014-04-29 17:08

Love your game... fun to explore, like the reveal mechanic, the stick jokes! great job!

marcellus 2014-04-29 17:22

haaaaaa a fellow construct 2 user and diablo player. I really liked the ambiance in your game and played it through the end to know more about the story.

I had a good time.

figglewatts 2014-04-29 17:23

Pretty interesting concept. Fun to play.
In other words: A bush made bush puns, 10/10.

darkmeatgames 2014-04-29 17:31

Nice simple idea, but lacking any real challenge. Maybe making small puzzles inbetween you and the goal objects would help?

blockbot 2014-04-29 17:49

Interesting experience, felt a little grindy in this iteration.

igwb 2014-04-29 18:19

Well, this game quite hit me. I enjoy to see a less direct aproach to the theme, though I can't loose the feeling that you'd have prefered the "Everything is connected" theme to the "Beneath the surface one". I wouldn't mind though, since you found a creative and touching way to bring both together.

The way you interact with the world is well implemented and draws me into the game quickly. I don't realy see the need to add more puzzle/gameplay elements, because I think that a game does not alwas need to be challanging. What's more important is the experiance it provides. Which in this case was excelent.

However, I kind of lost the logical connection when "everything was everything". I mean, it makes sense that a stone was a mountain and will be a rock. To a ceirtain point it also makes sense that it's all the three at once. But how does that connect to a seed, tree, fire "evolution(?)"?

Besides that: Great job!

PS: I realy like the way you implemented the fog of war.

igwb 2014-04-29 18:48

Sometimes I come back just to see how long my comment was.

jeffz 2014-04-29 22:03

Interesting fog of war. It felt like it took too long to uncover and move around though.

kyatric 2014-04-29 23:53

It feels like you were preparing for an other theme (everything is connected) and managed nonetheless to tie the actual theme in :)

Interesting adventure/story. I liked the humor in the "comments" of the sticks and bushes.

Congratulation on making a game in 48 hours and submitting it to the compo !

colludium 2014-04-30 00:30

I liked the atmosphere and the revealing / clearing fog effect. Good job!!

wertle 2014-04-30 04:09

Great sound design! It really added to the mood. The fog of war helped make simple exploration feel quite gratifying. Nice job.

abajur 2014-04-30 12:04

As a C2 user, I really like the black cloud thing! Also, it fits the theme in a good way and add great feeling to the experience. Well done! ((sorry my english))

yaru 2014-04-30 16:49

Good history, and I love the effect when the darkness dissolves!

erkberg 2014-04-30 23:32

Hey there, just wanted to say thanks for all your nice comments and feedback. I'll go into a little more detail considering some points made.
The gameplay really is not that special and the map really is a tad too big. I wanted to fill it with more objects like the bushes and sticks, but time ran out. Also the mechanic of the monster tearing holes in the world doesn't really work, cause it's not challenging enough. I need to work on that if I do a post-compo version. Some little puzzles would also be a good idea.
I didn't really prepare for any theme in advance (just thought about "Break the rules" a little ^^) and my initial thought for the game was that beneath it's surface, everything could be something else. I realize it might seem like I wanted to do "Everything is connected", because these words appear exactly like this in the game, but this actually was a later thought.
The idea and story of the game is heavily influenced by Hermann Hesse's great novel "Siddhartha". I'm not completely satisfied with my writing though, especially in the end, which probably makes it hard to follow the thoughts. I encourage you to read the book if you are interested.
A specials thanks to igwb for your long comment, it really made my day. :)

seconddimension 2014-05-01 17:15

I don't think I remember playing something where the world is slowly being destroyed as you play, the fact that it changes the play area is really cool. I think that and the music and the constant blasts really create a mood, it definitely feels like a dying planet.
I think it's a shame that those effects were used on an area that was mostly big and empty, it would be cool to see how something like that affects a more complicated game world, and perhaps forces you to keep picking new routes and changing your approach. Anyway good job

pimgale 2014-05-03 00:02

so good when the old guy becomes you.

the pacing of that typewriter is spot on!

kristof 2014-05-08 10:35

Nice exploration game. I stopped after I had found the first set of things though. A few more game mechanics to keep things interesting would have been great. Still, good work.

louis-denizet 2014-05-08 10:58

A very powerful message, greatly brought by the universe. Great game, really !

penguincat 2014-05-09 23:14

A very nice mood, but there didn't seem to be much gameplay to it.

pedrosanta 2014-05-10 16:53

I really liked the concept, it could be explored deeper but still it still gives a decent closure sense. I liked the audio ambience (kudos for that). It was a nice experience.

jupiter_hadley 2014-05-10 23:11

Nice use of the theme. I included it in part 21 of my Ludum Dare compilation video series, if you'd like to take a look :) http://youtu.be/ARsCeJtTlas

loxo 2014-05-11 10:04

I like the graphics, effects, audio and the unique concept of your game. With all those you managed to create a gripping atmosphere and made the experience interesting. The jokes are great too, but I would have liked, if there was no repetition. Sadly the game lacks on content and replay value. I think you imagined a much richer world with diverse objects to interact with, hence the big playing field. At one time the holes in the ground were very annoying, because they were placed near one of the objects I had to visit in the second stage of the game (or the object was placed near the holes). After dying the player felt automatically in one of the surrounding holes.

masadow 2014-05-11 18:20

Great entry !

copain 2014-05-12 08:42

nice game.
(one remark: if the game is based on the story, I think the way from level 1 to level 2, must be more worked. Not just "you have to search the items a second time and hole disappeared". Maybe the two characters go somewhere else, I don't know...)

jeff0029 2014-05-12 23:24

A great entry. You have done a great atmosphere with the music, SFX and the particle effects. Good job.

vilya 2014-05-13 23:35

I think this needs a minimap. Because the landscape keeps changing it's unnecessarily difficult to find your way back to the story teller.

Besides that, the game is well made & the music is very atmospheric, but the gameplay felt a bit lacking. There didn't seem to be any real sense of player agency: you were just walking around hoping to stumble upon the right thing. Adding some puzzles to solve that would lead you to the right thing would be a big improvement, I think.

hempuli 2014-05-14 00:03

Really neat! I loved the soundwork and the tension in the atmosphere, but the jokes the characters told me felt kind of weird considering the overall atmosphere.

broepi 2014-05-14 12:30

I love the reconciling philosophical message. When the game ends, the world continues "silently" falling down, but you are bathed in light of forgiveness and peace.
Unfortunately the game lags a bit if you dont play it on a boss computer. But Im always pleased that you make pure HTML5 games, that run nicely on every platform and don't need any shitty browser plugin, that only work with Windows.
Always a pleasure to challenge the LD together with you...
Light and peace to you bro!

joe40001 2014-05-15 01:21

"All is one"? More like "Seeking a stick for the end of the world"

"I'm a Bush, and I just don't care" Who wrote this game? Kanye West?!?

:P

Sorry for some reason this game brought out bad jokes from me, anyway it did have good humor the story was kinda lame but overall it didn't overstay it's welcome and you did something funny and original and mildly existential too. So good job.

ciderpunk 2014-05-16 22:21

really atmospheric, excellent music!
