Apr 25 01:44:17 Space Travel 15 ♥ 2 This is a really cool game. It's a simple concept, but you need to use a lot of strategy to manage the airports properly. You really have to think two steps ahead in order to get everyone to their destinations, since only taking people directly to their destination winds up being too slow. I think it's an excellent example of a game having a lot of depth for relatively little complexity. Great job!
May 1 07:20:00 149h 35m Tiny Ranger ♥ 1 This music is pretty jamming. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do to win (maybe collect those pill-looking things?), but it was pretty fun just running around shooting dudes. If you are going to continue development on this game, the first thing I would recommend fixing is the controls. The character is pretty slide-y and doesn't have much of a sense of weight. Fixing that along with making some graphical improvements will go a long way to making this a lot better. But what you have here is pretty good.
May 1 07:47:55 27m 55s DLTW - Don't Let Them Win ♥ 1 This is some pretty promising work! The controls were pretty tight, although the jump was a bit floaty. The explosion particle effect was a good damage indication, although there were times when it wasn't clear if I was supposed to shoot something or not, simply because it took a lot of hits and didn't move (i.e. the tower in level 2 and the boss alien in level 3). The enemies could also be pretty sporadic and hard to dodge. That being said, the gameplay was generally fun and I like the variety in the levels. This game is really close to a polished work; it really just needs some graphical updates and a few gameplay tweaks. I also really like the fact that you went for an overarching story, as most Ludum Dare games forgo that entirely. The intro and outro were pretty cute and the menu looked really great. The story really just ties the whole thing together nicely. Also the music was really good too. Overall, I enjoyed my time with this entry. Good job!
May 1 08:08:22 20m 27s tinyarena ♥ 0 This game is pretty fun! The visuals are very polished and the sound effects are excellent, although the lack of music did make the game feel kind of empty. The game could have also used some background instead of a plain gray one. I was really impressed by the amount of maps in the game. That's a lot of content for such a short time-frame! The AI was very well made and I had a blast playing with larger groups. unfortunately, the levels in the campaign that were 1v1 could get pretty tiresome, as they essentially boiled down to repeating the same thing over and over, getting one of the better weapons and camping a choke-point. The chaos is where this game really shines, and I had the most fun playing with 2-3 bots at a time. Fortunately, the inclusion of free-play means I can select however many bots I want in a match, but I would have liked for the campaign to focus more on multi-battles instead of having so much 1v1, as they sort of bog down the pacing, particularly early on. Despite this gripe, the game is top notch. Certainly one of the most polished games this Ludum Dare. Great job!
May 1 19:43:50 11h 35m BUS DRIVER ♥ 1 This game is pretty cool. I'm a sucker for games with time limits that force me to make risk versus reward decisions. You could have just made the bus go fast all of the time, but having the boost bound to a button press forces me to make a choice: do I want to risk crashing in order to get to a passenger before they disappear, or do I play it safe at the cost of missing a passenger? That being said, there really isn't any penalty for playing it safe and never boosting. Sure, one passenger might disappear, but the number of passengers that will spawn is seemingly infinite. Boosting is then really only a matter speeding things up as opposed to something I need to do. This game would benefit greatly from having a penalty for missing a passenger or having a limited number of passengers. That way, there would be more pressure for me to play it risky and boost. That being said, this game is really fun. The audio is good and the visuals are charming. Good job!
May 1 20:17:29 33m 39s Mallows World Adventure ♥ 2 This is a pretty good game. Sort of like Fantasy Wold Dizzy with marshmallows. Very expansive given the time constraint. I really like the globe trotting idea, an excellent use of theme. I did run into a few problems, however. Firstly, it took me a while to realize that the shovel was an item and not the background element. Also, the inventory system was a bit difficult to use with the way you had to put down items to get the one you wanted in your primary slot. Also, the expansive world got a bit confusing, especially when I went through doors. The layout could definitely be a bit more intuitive. Despite these problems, this is a really great entry. The visuals are good and the audio really fits the world. There is a lot of content on offer for a Ludum Dare game. Good job!
May 1 20:42:11 24m 42s Sling Ship 🌏 ♥ 2 This game has a neat concept. Slingshotting yourself around planets is really fun. The aesthetic is also nice and the music is fitting. I'd say the game feel was a little bit off; the tractor beam felt more like a solid pole than an energy tether. Despite this, the movement was really fluid and fun to pull off. If this game is lacking anything, it's on screen indications. There should really be an indication of when I can tether onto a planet, because, right now, it's all guess work; the range isn't really clear. Also, a trajectory indicator like in Angry Birds would be helpful for aiming, which also took some guesswork. I think these indicators would go a long way towards making the game more approachable. Despite these issues, I got all the way through the game and had a blast doing so. Great work!
May 1 21:07:07 24m 56s U-Turn ♥ 4 FIRST!!! But, seriously, this game is amazing; I love it! I'm a sucker for revisiting previous areas in games with minor alterations, and that's basically all this game is. At first, I was disappointed when I died in one hit, but it really works well with the permanent progression. There's a lot of pressure not to get hit, but it's not too punishing since progress is recorded every few flags. This allows you to make the game crazy hectic without it becoming overwhelming. The interest curve of this game is really will refined, ramping up slightly over time. The interest curve gets reset every time you die, but quickly builds back up to the level it was at before, letting you get your footing without having to replay major portions. This constructs a perfect interest curve with peaks as you get further into a run and dips whenever you die, but still constantly building upwards. Genius! Also, this should go without saying, but the audio and visuals are superb. This is the first 5 star overall rating I've given this Ludum Dare, and you've certainly earned it. Amazing work!
May 1 21:21:16 14m 09s Timeless ♥ 3 First of all, this is by far the best music in a game I've played this Ludum Dare, bar none. I also love the visual aesthetic and how the planet filled up as I kept collecting apples. It is a very visually satisfying way to mark progress. The gameplay itself is simple but effective. You make good use of limited space. It was tough, but I made it all the way to the end and had a fun time doing so. Great job!
May 1 21:32:35 11m 19s Hunting Frog ♥ 2 This is a pretty chill game. It's simple, but relaxing. The visuals are definitely a plus. I'm impressed by anyone who goes for 3D graphics in a Ludum Dare, and these are definitely clean. I got stuck a few times at first, but it was smooth sailing once I started staying away from ledges. I'd say I enjoyed my time with this game overall. Good job!
May 3 01:41:42 28h 09m Bio Noid ♥ 1 First of all, the art in this entry is superb. The art style is gorgeous and the animations are fluid. I particularly like the first boss's rolling attack, which, as someone else already pointed out, looks like Donphan's rollout attack from the Pokemon anime. This is some of the best art I've seen in any Ludum Dare entry. Unfortunately, the lack of sound effects outside of the music really left the game feeling empty. Also, I think that the game feel needs to be worked on. It feels kind of restrictive not being able to shoot in mid air, especially when you have to jump around a lot to dodge attacks. The controls just feel unresponsive overall. Being able to get out of the armor suit was pretty cool, adding a layer of strategy to some encounters. However, many of the fights were very repetitive and didn't progress at all beyond the same pattern. I'll admit that I didn't make it past the third phase. After dying to it for the third time, I didn't want to have replay the previous two phases again to get another shot at it. That being said, the incredibly polished art really holds up the game. I don't want to sound overly negative; this game has a lot going for it and is definitely more complete and polished than many other Ludum Dare games. I'd say I had a good time playing this entry. Good job!
May 3 02:09:44 28m 02s The Adventure of Malvin ♥ 1 Oh boy, do I love me some good platforming, and hot dang is this platforming good! I have to say, the game feel is spot on; the controls are natural and responsive, controls being the most important aspect of any platformer. It just felt good to run and jump around, which is the first thing any platformer needs to accomplish. The pitter patter of the character's feet also really added to the game feel. The art is minimalist, but functions well for what it means to convey. Man, I really just like this one. Great job!
May 3 02:55:13 45m 29s Arindama ♥ 1 I like this game a lot. It's a pretty relaxing, zen like experience. It sorta reminds me of skyblock in Minecraft the way you start off on this island and have to expand with only the resources you start with. I liked experimenting with all of the different block combinations to discover new crafting recipes. I will say that it was annoying how there's a limited supply of trees since grass is a finite resource. Because of this, I wound up using all of my wood before I made a bottle, so I had to reset a few times to get all of the quests. Getting stuck like that and having to reset can be really frustrating. I think it would help if grass would spread. If you were to expand upon this game, you'd probably want to make all of the resources renewable in some way. Also, the selection box was a bit finicky at times, making it difficult to select the blocks you want. Despite these issues, I enjoyed my time with this game greatly. I really dig the music. It's calm and relaxing, which fits the game's tone well. The visual aesthetic is also very nice. I think that this game has a lot of potential to be expanded upon, and this is a very great foundation. Excellent work!
May 3 03:20:18 25m 05s Annulus ♥ 2 This is a very neat concept for a game. I really like the visual aesthetic, although things got a bit disorienting when going around the top. Also, I appreciate the controller support, but controller button prompts would have been nice too. It was pretty fun just exploring the world and discovering new things. I wouldn't say it was a particularly difficult game, since I could just repeatedly hunt the same animal until I had a practically infinite supply of food, but it was certainly a relaxing experience. Good job!
May 3 04:34:09 1h 13m Monolith ♥ 2 This game has a cool concept. I like the idea of a bullet hell where the bullets are coming towards you. It can be a bit difficult to dodge without any real depth perception though. This game would probably work better in VR for that reason. I like the lock on system and how it forces you into danger in order to get a lock onto your opponents. I also like how it encourages risky play by locking onto multiple enemies for a score multiplier. I'm a bit mixed on the washed out sounds though. It works really well for the music, but the sound effects wind up not being impactful, which hurts game feel. Also, not having any on screen indication of health (or at least none that I noticed) is a bit of a problem that could be fixed. Overall, I really enjoyed myself with this game. Great work!
May 3 04:54:58 20m 49s littleBLASTplanet ♥ 1 I really like this one. I love the idea of having a character that shoots straight on a small, circular planet. It's a very clever use of theme that creates a lot of interesting gameplay interactions. The game is pretty simple, but it doesn't need to be complex. It's just a fun little concept that gets a lot out of a little. In fact, my main critique is that it should be even simpler. For instance, I think that the ability to shoot upwards is entirely superfluous; you can hit things above you by shooting horizontally at an angle. Most players will default to shooting upwards to hit things above them, but doing so ignores the whole point of having a circular level. I say you should remove the ability to shoot up to force players out of their comfort zone. Also, jumping is kind of superfluous as well; I only ever used it to get into the exit. Maybe it becomes more useful later on, but it's kind of unnecessary up to the point that I got to. Really, I think you could simplify the controls to three buttons: left, right, and shoot. That gives you plenty of depth with no superfluous elements. My only other criticism of the game is how unforgiving it is, dying in just one hit to either yourself or the planet. I wouldn't mind having the ability to take a few more hits, but it's easy enough to jump right back in regardless. As for the art style and sound, both are minimalist and fit the game's tone nicely. I think that this is a really stand out entry. Great job!
May 3 05:27:27 32m 29s Rocket Roller Space Polo ♥ 1 I had a blast playing this game! The concept is simple and well executed. At first, I didn't like how you couldn't control your forward movement, but I actually like that limited control; it only allowed me a limited period to actually hit the ball, creating a sense of urgency. The controls are really smooth and well refined. It shows that yous spent a lot of time polishing that game feel to a mirror shine. I also like how the bots work. They're not just worse versions of you, but rather their own unique entity. Having multiple difficulties with multiple bots with different behaviors really adds a lot of depth to the game. It's not just a lame single-player version of a multiplayer game, but rather an asymmetrical competition designed from the ground up to be single-player, although an expanded version with 2 player support would be nice ;). The only thing I have to complain about is the lack of music, which left the game feeling a bit empty. Other than that, this is one of the most fun games I've played this Ludum Dare.
May 3 06:11:22 43m 55s SUPER METROARIO ♥ 2 There is a lot of content on offer here, and it's well thought out too. I like how you turned each color of Mario's face into a different zone and made the objective to color in his face. That adds a certain level of guidance through an implicit objective that never has to be directly told to the player. keeping the map grid in line with the pixels in Mario's face is also clever. Whenever I got lost, I could just look at the map to see where the current region I hadn't gone to is. The secrets were all well hidden and I appreciate both of the Easter eggs. The changing colors were also a very visually satisfying way of marking progress; it really made the world feel alive. Having the music change with each new color was also a nice touch. If I had to critique one aspect of the game, it would be the controls. Mario is known for his very smooth jump, but this jump is stiff and awkward. In general, the character should have their Y velocity go down little by little when they jump, not suddenly reverse all at once. The game definitely could have benefited from a proper jump arc. Regardless of this issue, I really enjoyed my time with this game (and, yes, I did play all the way to the end).
May 3 06:25:39 14m 17s E.(a)T. ♥ 2 Now this is just adorable. The aesthetic is just plain old cute and the sound effect when kicking enemies is absolutely precious. The game is pretty simple, but I don't think it needs to be any more complicated than it is. I mean, you're a little orange dude kicking blue boys around a tiny planet. 'Nuff said. If I had to be critical about this game for a second, eating things can be a bit imprecise, which is a problem when there's such a low time limit, but it's not too big of an issue. Oh, and is this leader-board really online? If so, I may just come back to claim the high-score . . . In any event, I had a blast with this one. Good job!
May 3 17:29:40 11h 04m Super Plumber Man vs The Evil Elf King ♥ 0 Hmmm, this reminds me of some other game, but I can't quite put my finger on it . . . But, seriously, this game was pretty fun. It's sorta like a whole game built around the mega mushroom from New Super Mario Bros. The visuals are cute, the music is nice, and the audio visual feedback for killing enemies is satisfying. I do feel that the ending is a bit draw out though. I sorta got the joke before he started talking. I think you could have told that joke more succinctly without dialog at all. As they say, brevity is the soul of wit. The game is also pretty short, but it's a very polished experience for a Ludum Dare entry. It would be cool to see this concept expanded upon, but, for what this is, I had a good time.
May 3 18:19:20 49m 40s Agaric Abyss ♥ 1 I see the you're taking cues from the Hideo Kojima philosophy of game design, because that intro cutscene was looooooong. All jokes aside, this is a pretty chill game. It's nice and relaxing to slowly build my way up. In a way, it reminds me a bit of Grow Home. Unfortunately, the frustrating platforming in the compo version can interrupt the flow of the game. Also, it took me quite some time to figure out how to play (I didn't realize that growing mushrooms meant growing NEW mushrooms) but it was pretty simple once I figured things out. Again, apparently the post compo version remedies this issue, so it seems that you've already addressed most of my problems with the game. With the negatives out of the way, I have to say that this is one of the more visually striking games of the compo. The minimalist aesthetic suits the game nicely and the mushrooms wiggling and bouncing is very smooth. The visuals along with the audio make for a calm atmosphere which I enjoyed greatly. This is certainly a very well made entry which is apparently made even better in the post compo version.
May 3 18:35:41 16m 21s It's a Small World ♥ 3 This is a pretty neat start to a game. There isn't much content wise, but the visuals are very well done and the music is calm and relaxing, which fits the tone I think the game is going for. If I had to criticize what you have so far, I'd say that the text scrolling speed is too slow and the sound that goes along with it is obnoxious. Thankfully, the ability to skip text largely mitigates these issues. There is certainly a lot of potential here and it would be cool to see this concept expanded upon. For what it is, this is a good foundation.
May 3 18:49:07 13m 26s Crate Jump: Planet of the pressing of the spacebar ♥ 1 This is a pretty neat concept. I'm a sucker for 2D runners, so this really peaked my interest. The first few platforming sections are pretty good, and I like how you can see the whole level all at once. That being said, I did run into a few problems. First of all, pressing space in my browser automatically scrolls down, so it was kinda tough to play. I can't really hold that against the game, though, since it's the browser's fault. In terms of problems I had with the game itself, it's pretty tough to jump over spikes because of how slow you are. You pretty much have to time your jumps perfectly. Sending the player back to the start of the game for messing up once given the very precise nature of the jumps is very unforgiving. The visuals are also a bit basic and would need some work if this game were to be expanded upon. Despite these issues, I think that you really got something going here conceptually. This game could be improved a lot with a few minor tweaks and could be made into something really special. For what it is, this game is pretty neat.
May 3 19:06:56 17m 49s Greedy Nations ♥ 1 This game is pretty ambitious. I was really confused for most of the time. The HUD could be organized better and its unclear what exactly a lot of the different elements do. I think I sorta figured it out by the end of it. I wound up winning after a few tries by rushing the enemy base as soon as I could. What was really confusing was how all of the soldiers were gray. I would recommend color coding the soldiers depending of who owns them so it's clear what's going on. That being said, this is an interesting game to be sure. It's a bit unintuitive as it is right now, but it could be refined into something really enjoyable.
May 3 19:15:54 8m 58s Unfinished platform game ♥ 1 This is a pretty good start to a game. The controls work fine and the visuals look good. I think you really nailed the bullet spray, especially the little explosion that happens when a bullet hits the wall. It's definitely disappointing that you left the game where you did. This game would be pretty fun with just a few enemies and a basic level layout. I wouldn't have been so quick to give up on this thing if I were you. There's no shame in submitting for the jam when you're running out of time for the compo. For what it is, you have a pretty solid foundation for a game.
May 3 19:29:01 13m 07s Spacepants X ♥ 1 This is a pretty good game. The controls are fluid, although regular jumping seems kinda superfluous. The jet-pack handles well, though I didn't get very far since you go back to the beginning of the game whenever you die. Maybe having checkpoints and limited lives would help. I do think that the audio and visuals are nice. I particularly like the way that some platforms light up when you land on them; it's very satisfying. Apparently this is a redux of a previous Ludum Dare game, which shows because it doesn't seem to have much at all to do with this Ludum Dare's theme. For what it is, I enjoyed my time with this game.
May 3 19:49:21 20m 20s World Jumper ♥ 1 This game has a really great puzzle mechanic! At first, I thought it was going to be your usual swapping back and forth between two worlds kind of game, but having a bunch of worlds all with their own small function was a really great twist. I also like how the levels built upon each other with each level becoming a tool to be used in the future. It allowed for the game to expand naturally as the player gets more tools to deal with new situations. While the game was pretty short, I really enjoyed myself playing it.
May 3 20:06:42 17m 21s The Torus World ♥ 1 I'm a sucker for 2D runners, and this one's pretty good. I like the design of the character and the sword swinging animation looks great. The game controls well enough, but everything feels a little bit delayed. Maybe that's just me. I never got too terribly far because of how you die instantly from hitting a platform. It was pretty difficult to avoid them given how many of them there were. I feel that the platforms should have probably been semi-solid, meaning you can collide with them from the top but not the bottom or sides, and then you could have had another type of static hazard used more sparingly. The game was definitely very punishing, but I had a good time with it regardless.
May 3 21:26:25 1h 19m Lovebug ♥ 0 A very charming game indeed. The visuals are very well refined and the audio is calm and relaxing. I can tell that the gameplay is meant to be a bit slower paced, but things could eventually get very repetitive when you have to paddle long distances. The game was also very punishing, making you restart the whole game if you fall into the water once. I didn't wind up completing the game because I got more than half way, died, and didn't want to repeat the whole thing over again. Maybe having checkpoints would help, or maybe you could just lose some life and spawn on the last lily pad when you fall into the water. Despite this frustration, I enjoyed myself with this game.
May 3 22:43:51 1h 17m The Space Explorer ♥ 1 Visually, this game is very impressive given the time constraint. The textures, models, and animations are top notch! The game's visuals are stylized nicely and the tiny planet is very cute. However, the game does feel empty as a result of not having sound effects. It feels jarring when the player character comments on a "loud noise" that I didn't get to hear myself. The combat is a bit basic, but largely unobtrusive. Still, it would have been nice if there was more to the combat. Exploration and puzzle solving is enjoyable, if a bit basic as well. Overall, I think that the presentation of the game is great, even if there isn't too much to the gameplay. This is a very well made entry to be sure.
May 3 23:38:10 54m 19s Globey's Revenge ♥ 2 This game is pretty rad. Movement when rolling around in a ball is really fun. Unfortunately, the flow gets interrupted by having to stop and shoot at enemies. There's a reason that sonic attacks by rolling though enemies. However, the sounds the people make when they are fired are pretty funny. The destruction aspect of the game is pretty viscerally satisfying, but it's annoying when you have to backtrack because you didn't smash enough stuff. The audio and visuals are two of the best parts of the game. Presentation wise, this is definitely a top contender. Overall, This game is really great, but would be a lot better if you could figure out a method of combat that didn't break the flow of the game.
May 3 23:54:07 15m 57s The Last Haven ♥ 2 This game is something that could be really good, but is unfortunately held back by a lot of technical issues. Starting off with the positives, the visuals for the game are great. The character is nicely stylized and the projectiles look nice. The music is also good, but the lack of other sound effects leaves the game feeling a bit empty. Also, I appreciate that you're trying to do something with the camera other than just having it centered, but this camera doesn't work well for this kind of game. The camera only really shows what's in front of me, but this is an open arena where I need to watch out for people behind me as well. Also, the camera movement is very jarring and would need to be a lot smoother for the effect to work properly. Onto the gameplay, the controls are really good and the hover boots in particular work well. Unfortunately, the game is pretty hard to keep up with. I see that you can do some fancy moves based on the gif on the game's page, but, in practice, those moves were pretty hard to pull off while actually hitting enemies. It wound up being more effective to just sorta stand still and fire my weapon at the enemies as they did the same to me, at least given my skill level. The difficulty aiming is partially due to the camera, but also because everything moves too quickly. If everything was just a little bit slower then I feel like the game would be easier to keep up with. I don't mean to sound too negative about the game; it certainly has a lot of positive qualities going for it, like the presentation and the controls, but it's held back by all of these largely technical difficulties. Despite these issues, the game is pretty good.
May 4 00:21:35 27m 28s Tiniest Assassin 2 ♥ 1 This game has some interesting controls. They can be a bit finicky, but I think I got the hang of them. Being able to hang onto surfaces is cool in concept, but it mostly just resulted in me getting stuck to the sides of bars I was trying to fit through. I also got stuck to the ceiling and had to restart the game multiple times. The sort of adventure game style "bring item a to place b" stuff was pretty cool, and having a story with dialog in the game was a nice touch considering the time constraint. Overall, this is a pretty solid entry.
May 4 00:41:32 19m 57s SkyWays ♥ 1 This game is pretty cool. The visuals are minimalist, but stylized and suit the game nicely. The controls could be a bit finicky in some of the more precise platforming challenges, but the game really shines when you get to build up that sense of speed. I'm not too big a fan of the overworld. It was difficult to find new levels and I kept accidentally entering levels I'd already beaten. Despite this issue, I had a really fun time playing this entry.
May 4 01:10:27 28m 55s There's A Secret At The End ♥ 1 This game is pretty cool. I like how each level is themed after a different painting, and changing the music for each level is a nice touch. I also like how each level has its own little gimmick to it based off of the painting. The controls do feel really off though, especially the jumping. Here's a guide on 2D platformer controls I look to all the time: http://higherorderfun.com/blog/2012/05/20/the-guide-to-implementing-2d-platformers/ Also, you can play the levels in any order, but the game seems to end after playing the teleporter level no matter what order you play the levels in. Despite these issues, I had a good time playing through this entry. Also, if you weren't aware since this is your first Ludum Dare, you need to play, rate, and comment on other people's games in order for your game to get on the front page. Otherwise, nobody will see your game. I found your game specifically because I was looking at a list of games that hadn't received any feedback. Now that I've commented on your game, you won't even be on that list, so do go and rate and comment on other people's games.
May 4 01:48:57 38m 30s Way Out ♥ 1 This game is right up my alley. The swordplay is well done, and I like how you really need to time your attacks. That being said, I feel that there need to be one or two more enemy types and/or level mechanics in order to justify the number of levels. I had mastered everything the game has to offer long before I was allowed to face the final boss. The final boss is good as well. He is pretty tough with how fast those rocks fall, even with the indicators, but I eventually managed to defeat him. In terms of the presentation, the visuals are pretty good, especially the main character and the final boss; they have great animations. The boss music is also good, though I think music would have worked better than ambient sound for the rest of the game as well. The sound effects were good, but got repetitive after a while. Overall, I'd say the presentation was good. This is a really great entry that I had a lot of fun playing. It has some issues, but is overall a well made game.
May 4 03:09:30 1h 20m Dungeon Hero(es) ♥ 2 This game is pretty great. I love the satirical tone, especially the choice you have to make at the ending. I really appreciate that the decision you make actually matters as well. The fake character selection at the beginning was also pretty funny. The audiovisual presentation is also very good. The music is fitting and really sets the tone, especially the lobby music at the end. There's a good amount of audiovisual feedback making hitting things viscerally satisfying. The character could be a bit more animated and the sword slash was a bit dinky looking, though I appreciate the attention payed to perspective; you actually rotated the sword slash properly instead of just totally flipping the sprite. Now that's attention to detail! The environment definitely looked very good as well. The gameplay was simple, bet effective, and I like the variety of enemies and scenarios presented. The game had a few good combat scenarios and didn't overstay its welcome, which is definitely better than it being long and repetitive. As they say, brevity is the soul of wit, so the shorter length didn't bother me given the variety. Overall, I'd say that this is a very solid entry with a great sense of humor. Excellent work! (Side note: I played through a second time to get the ending where you take the free loot. I found a bug where you can take the loot as many times as you want and get infinite money. Also, if you walk into the treasure room before talking to the boss, the end slate still says that you didn't take the free loot. No big deal, but I thought I'd let you know.) (Fun Fact: I also played your Ludum Dare 30 game and apparently found a bug in that one too)
May 4 05:23:23 2h 13m Last Bloom ♥ 2 The audiovisual presentation of this game is great. I really like the character and environment design. The flower at the top and the imagery of it sinking into the darkness in particular are striking. The color scheme and style are very lovely, and the animations are great too. The music really fits the game and creates a nice atmosphere. I like the sense of hopelessness and how that emotion comes across though gameplay. Punching the blob dudes off of the platforms is fun, though I think you should have some audio feedback for hitting them. I do really like the respite between stages; it gives you some calm before the game gets harder, which is key to a good interest curve. That being said, the difficulty progression didn't make a lot of sense. You start off on the easiest level and later stages become harder, but progression is marked by LOSING, so, if I'm good at the beginning of the game and never lose, the game never becomes challenging. I actually had to try to lose on the second stage, but I really didn't stand much of a chance on stages three and four. Maybe you should have the rate of blob spawning increase over time so that even the first two stages get difficult eventually, but then the rate resets at the beginning of the next stage. I think that would make for a more varied interest curve; each level would get more hectic over time, reach a climax, and then reset with a respite before the next stage. Despite this issue, I had a really great time with this game. I was blown back by the quality of the presentation and the gameplay got really hectic and fun towards the end.
May 4 05:59:01 35m 38s Supernova ♥ 2 This game has a spectacular audiovisual presentation. The music is fantastic and really draws a contrast between space travel and planet exploration. I just love the little pitter patter of the drone's treads as I walk. The art style of both the space and planet sections is minimalist and gorgeous. I really love the color pallet! In terms of gameplay, the controls are nice, tough I wish I could turn the spaceship while at a stand still as it was occasionally finicky to turn towards a planet. The gameplay is simple yet fun, although the pacing is way too slow. You have four planets per area, but there's really only enough content to warrant two. As it is now, the gameplay gets repetitive fast. Also, I'm not 100% convinced by the use of theme. The theme "A Small World" isn't just carte blanche to make a space game. Maybe I'm being nitpicky; the planets themselves are small I guess, but there's no singular small world here. Eh, okay, I guess it works now that I think about it. I'm mostly keeping this criticism in because I like the line where I say "carte blanche;" using fancy words makes me feel good about myself. Other than these issues, the game is fun and relaxing with an incredible presentation.
May 4 21:44:46 15h 45m For The Love Of Money ♥ 1 This is a pretty basic platformer, but it's fine for what it is. The controls are functional and platforming is fun. It's all very standard stuff. You mention in the description for the game that it's supposed to be very difficult, but I actually found the game to be rather easy and pretty slow paced. There is a whole lot of waiting for platform cycles. In the kind of retro difficult games you are tying to emulate, progress is usually driven by player skill; a skilled player doesn't have to wait for the game to catch up to them. All this is not to say that the gameplay is terrible; far from it, the gameplay is solid and well made, but lacks the kind of energy that would make it truly exciting. Also, I'm not buying this "liking money = small world" thing. If the game had some larger narrative focus where the character's motivations were actually important then it could have worked, but the implementation of the theme here feels very token. Moving onto the presentation, the music is good and the visuals work well, though the particle detail on the fireball, while looking good on its own, is a bit out of place given the very retro aesthetic of the environment. I do like the amount of detail in the character's walk cycle, that was very well made. Overall, this is a pretty competent platformer, but the pacing combined with the simplistic gameplay kept it from being exciting. It doesn't exactly break new ground, but, for what it is, the game is pretty enjoyable.
May 19 04:23:24 342h 38m Planetoid Piracy ♥ 0 This is a very ambitious concept. The game felt a bit cluttered and at times unwieldy; it could definitely use some polishing. However, the amount you were able to get done in 72 hours is staggering. I had a fun time roaming around the galaxy and expanding my spaceship. I also like the visual aesthetic and pallet choice. Though the game is somewhat unrefined, this is definitely a project that shows a lot of potential.
