LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

My Witch Shop (unfinished) by tinyworlds 2018-04-24T20:21:27Z

I like the art and the music a lot. It's a shame you didn't have the time to make the shop part of the game in time for the end of the jam, but I encourage you to continue on your own time because this is looking quite promising!

Wreckless Rally by Flaterectomy 2018-04-27T19:22:37Z

Not only is this one of the most innovative concepts I've seen this Ludum Dare, the graphics are also fantastically detailed and well-polished. I think the way the game detects collisions and matches got a bit frustrating sometimes, but I still had a lot of fun playing this.

I also really enjoyed reading your post-mortem blog posts; they're really well-done.

Thank you for making this game!

Magic The Shattering by diptoman 2018-04-28T01:17:57Z

This game has a great concept, great graphics, and plays quite nicely!

However, I think getting a game over from getting hit only once is too punishing for a game that partially focuses on long-term strategy.

Love Love! Space Attack by Random-storykeeper 2018-04-24T18:51:27Z

I really enjoy this game for its music, its art, and its humor. However, it sometimes became a bit frustrating to play, because one mistake can mean getting hit many times. I think this game may have benefited from clearing the screen of bullets, or at least giving the player more invincibility frames, after the player gets hit.

Ace Golf: Blade Brawlers by elHombreBanana 2018-04-24T21:13:40Z

Great game! The music is a straight banger.

BREAK // HELL by Incredible Ape 2018-04-24T20:16:18Z

I'm very impressed with how well this game works. This is a great use of the theme and feels very nice to play.

Edit: I should elaborate, because since I left this comment, I've been coming back to this game quite a bit. I think it's really impressive that you managed to take a simple concept and craft it into an experience that not only feels amazing, but is also surprisingly deep. I've probably played this game at least 50 times now and I still feel like I'm improving at it and finding new strategies.

MULLIGUN by those-30-ninjas 2018-04-24T19:09:38Z

This game is fantastic. I love the graphics and the music and I think the idea is innovative and beyond well-executed. It really feels like a professional finished product.

Jumpcard by pestodesign 2018-04-25T07:43:24Z

This is a really great interpretation of the theme! However, the controls were very frustrating for me. I think the game would have been more enjoyable with standard keyboard platforming controls, or alternatively with some indicator for where the frog will land after jumping.

Zenmaku by Gregor 2018-04-28T21:06:49Z

Zen and bullet hell may be the two most incompatible genres I've seen combined during this game jam, but this game makes them work together impressively well. The "collect the enemies" objective and the infinite retries are both very smart ways to design this particular combination. The game also has a great soundtrack.

Thank you for making this game!

ShootEm? by Merrol 2018-04-28T04:12:17Z

This might be my new favorite! The concept is beyond impressive and the gameplay is simple but very fun.

Love Machine by Rulrite 2018-04-28T01:28:12Z

Even without any gameplay, this game managed to put a huge smile on my face. The music and art are top-notch and the dialogue is hilarious! I hope you continue developing this game.

Danmakoïd - Bullet hell metroidvania by Talops 2018-04-28T06:12:34Z

This game is rad as heck. Its strongest points are the wonderful graphics and very smart level design (the effort you put in really shows).

I do have two small complaints. The first is that, while the powerup progression of the game is generally well-balanced, I found that with certain combinations of powerups, the final boss takes an unreasonable amount of time to defeat. The second is that it is very easy to get hit right after exiting the teleporter; this happened to me at least three times.

Thank you very much for making this game, and I am looking forward to playing the new version!

Tipio's Grand Typery by NedStormFish 2018-04-25T03:40:48Z

This is a really cool game! You really nailed the atmosphere (and yeah, I know that's a weird thing to say about a typing game). The mechanics of the game are also quite neat: the spinning letters and hidden letters were an interesting challenge.

Happy Quiz by SophieM 2018-04-24T19:17:11Z

I went in expecting the game to be unsettling, but it still managed to be unsettling. I really like some of the ways you set the atmosphere with this one.

Falling Labyrinth by LarrySeinfeld 2018-04-25T07:20:24Z

This is one of the most creative uses of the theme I've seen! It's also a very well-polished game: the controls on the falling block half of the game were especially nice.

One weakness I think this game has is that since there's so much going on at once, it's hard to pay very much attention to every individual thing. It took me a lot of tries to figure out that certain moves were effective against certain enemies, for example.

Crane Quandary by Strato 2018-04-24T18:59:08Z

This is my favorite game of the jam so far. The concept is wonderful and it really feels like a professional finished product.

There really isn't anything bad I can say about this game: the art is fantastic, the music is adorable, the controls feel really nice, and the puzzles are quite well-designed and do a great job of teaching the player the mechanics. I wish some of the puzzles didn't require as precise an execution, but I think that's more my personal preference than an actual negative aspect of the game.

Thank you for making this great game!

Reverse by MrJake7X 2018-04-24T19:23:01Z

I think the art on this page is very impressive, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy the game.

The puzzles are uninteresting and the game doesn't seem to fit the theme at all. I appreciate the idea of switching between two characters, but it just makes the game feel so slow to play because you have to move both characters to progress. Overall the game feels unprofessional and more like a tech demo than a completed product.oops3.PNG

Split-Minded by FarawayVision 2018-04-27T20:39:02Z

This game put a huge smile on my face and is definitely the funniest game I've played in this jam so far. There are some great characters here; The Pyromaniac was easily my favorite. The main story of the game definitely has potential and I would like to see it fully completed someday!

I really appreciate the combat sections, not just as a good use of the theme, but as a "break" from the standard visual novel gameplay. However, I think they became quite repetitive towards the end of the game and I wish there were just a little more variation.
