LD39 — Running out of Power

Energy Collector by peremily 2017-08-18T22:08:34Z

Great idea; definitely worth developing. It will be a lot of fun with upgrades, maybe some random bonuses or adversities.

Graphics very simple and no sound - doesn't really matter as the playability of the game is on a strategy level.

I'd add range circles, when placing objects. Does distance from the star matter? why should the player keep correct distance? - some questions that sprung to mind.

Lights Escape by Antiwrapper 2017-08-06T18:10:25Z

Godot engine?! Never heard of it ...until now. Sweet!

Good idea with fading. Nice running animation. Smooth design. It feels like a complete game.

Some levels are frustratingly challenging.

I'd wrap the audio track to make the music infinite.

Space Rover by wdebowicz 2017-08-04T20:55:52Z

A beautiful game. Great graphics, even if simple. Great backgrounds, sounds. I've collected few samples, even if the rover sometimes struggled to go up hills. I guess this would be an intended difficulty factor, actually. Wasn't sure how the game ends, how does one fulfill the objective. So even if it didn't feel like a *game*, it was a great *experience*. Well done :)

Power Crisis by Gulyasarni66 2017-08-18T21:36:49Z

I may have underestimated the power of Java. This, from scratch?! Impressive.

I actually liked controls and mechanics; seemed intuitive, consistent and straightforward. As I'm terrible at platformers, the enemies found me an easy target and didn't get past world 1.

Sound and graphics may be super simple, but it's vary consistent with the genre, so very much thumbs up.

The Woods by strong99 2017-08-18T21:52:46Z

2017-08-18 22_46_57-Ludum Dare 39 - Game player v4.png

Fortunately one of the red fellows got stuck, they stopped spawning and my rescue arrived. I didn't know how to fight these and felt quite ...powerless :D.

I like the hand drawn graphics storyboard and the music feels nice. The game is very simple, but for 48h it's a good start, especially if it's your first Ludum Dare :)

Blackout by wviper3 2017-07-31T17:13:12Z

Fun and easy. Got to level 6 and still had fun. For some reason the music, albeit (or maybe because!) its simplicity is well balanced, great and it fits.

The Power of Hove by bentglasstube 2017-08-12T20:26:10Z

C++ from scratch? Nicely done! The art is a triple A quality from the 8bit times ;D

I'm terrible at platformers, so didn't get much out of the game, the difficulty overwhelmed me, but from what I've seen - impressive.

Cranked 1911 by zee 2017-08-12T18:16:36Z

I liked car models - really detailed.

Took me a while to figure out where to stand to get in the car. The enemy is quite quick and precise - good path finding! I haven't figured out a way to get more power - perhaps there is none and that's the thing.

Music - few more bars and a double bass in the background would go a long way ;)

Infinitree by Quaternius 2017-08-04T07:53:07Z

Innovative, well balanced, fun! Graphics simple, but convey the idea perfectly; perhaps better than eye-candy heavy productions that would distract instead. Very impressive! (Tested Windows version)

Running out of Power by milano23 2017-08-04T08:03:15Z

Fun little game. Count moves would add to the challenge. Good there's no time limit - I find these annoying and unnecessary.

Sometimes level randomises solved already :) This is not to be resolved in LD time limit, probably though. Pieces are movable even when level successful.

No Sign Of Life by silkworm_sweatshop 2017-08-06T16:53:44Z

The story is great. I wish I could had saved the green one from the cryo station! Is the crystal some evil lifeform, that's taken over the dead astronaut? Is there a connection between lying to Red's family and the crystal? I guess we'll never know. Music simple, but very fitting. Good idea with minimap. Collisions in rooms - you must've run out of time ;D Character sprite animation is forgiven due to fantastic story. I enjoyed it very much.

Power Rush by Mik3 2017-08-19T10:08:31Z

Nice graphics. Good idea.

Took me a while to figure out cranking, but I'm sure you've got it included in the post-compo tutorial. fortunately, I didn't have throw the crystals into the tubes, you can just walk up to them, the crystal goes in and then trowing it counts.

Game would benefit from music.

Good game, definitely. Probably top 20% of what I've tested.

Devious Plant Commando by Marcenat 2017-08-02T17:51:50Z

Display and resolution selection - maybe Unity does it all by itself, I saw it in few games now, but it's ...nifty :) that's the right word. nifty. One more nudge towards switching to Unity for me.

I really like the music. Adds to the tension.

Steering and shooting is user friendly.

As a wise man has taught me (and I never really listened) - make the bullets obscenely big. Players like to see their shots are meaningful. And in this case it'd be easier to get a feel for a weapon range.

I wondered if plants return to their original spots if I leave the room - didn't notice them doing this (good :) )

Transition between rooms - there is a moment of darkness. not sure if intended. Not a biggie though, not affecting gameplay.

m-Powerment by QuantumZen 2017-08-12T20:41:52Z

Thanks all for the feedback. Lots of points I'd never have thought about, like WoT instructions or game elements that are not immediately clear.

Few hints: there are levels where the door to the next level is already open and your task is to elude the cynocks, not engage them. The battery gives you infinite ammo. Level 6 is the final level: sorry, budget cuts :D

While I'm having lots of fun testing your games, I'm hoping to slowly polish this one and make it palatable for broader audience.

The Last Cup Of Coffee by jin47 2017-08-02T18:13:14Z

Haven't reached the coffee, but done quite a damage to other coffee zombies :D

Fallen enemy still takes away HP.

Wall obscures camera sometimes.

AI is actually quite ok, for a 48h project. Enemies wander around nicely and engage when close enough && in sight, form what I noticed.

Music is great.

I wish the character pointed at where he is expected to shoot the moment you click fire.

Great walk/run animation! Didn't get to run much though.

Oh, and infinite ammo?! I want that stapler! :D At the beginning I was trying to conserve ammo and found it to be ...unhealthy.

Das Riverboot by Sputnik3D 2017-08-15T20:29:27Z

Wow, this was tricky. In 10 games I managed to get to the town once. I twas trying to fling the catch over the top and in some from the bottom. So, collisions of the catch gathering object were tricky.

I like the graphics & music. Consistent with the theme.

cool physics. simple, but convincing.

I found myself surprised trying to play the game more than testing, that's a good sign :)

LEADER by carlosvVk 2017-08-17T18:16:17Z

Fun! I'd make an excellent tyrant and that's final!

I like how the city reacts to your standing. It'd be great to see more detailed reactions - that's what I'd work on for the 2.0; if you decide to build a school, a school appears. Burn the forest - forest disappears, etc.

The idea is great. very simple, but with a lot of potential.

They Attack At Night by randomphantom 2017-08-12T18:46:22Z

I very much enjoyed the game. Difficulty steadily increasing fit my learning curve. Graphics are fantastic. The game is actually fun enough for me to play after having it tested, just to see if I can do better. This is not very common for a 48h game :) I blame in on Unreal lighting ;)

I was hoping for a moment of rest to go exploring and setting up the generators, but the enemy kept coming. I survived until wave 5; perhaps setting up more turrets would've helped.

I couldn't see the trenches around the city and fell into them few times. I couldn't reach other reactors to increase base power recharge.

Attack on battery by FabulousDesu 2017-08-06T17:07:14Z

First impression:

playing field moves with mouse position and music made with random sounds "popping up" visually: cool! Here's one extra star of innovation, right there :)

After playing:

music: 2 instruments + simplest beat possible and fits great.

I wish I could move while the "grappling hook" is extended to adjust the aim.

Fun. Nicely made.

Low Power Spacecraft by XavierSeal 2017-07-31T17:23:43Z

This is so shiny! Really well made particles, sound, neon-like bloom feel, graphics overall. What I'd love to see: way to skip the initial dialogue. Some arrow pointing to energy gauge on the ship's back. I had to get killed to notice it :)

LD44 — Your life is currency

Aeternum by Nyri0 2019-05-03T21:10:54Z

A great start! Keep going! I'm thinking the biggest challenge for you will be to deliver elements in agile stages, instead of trying to achieve the finished product right off the bat.

Space Pilot by Kaiomoi 2019-05-03T20:35:16Z

Surprisingly complex game for an LD entry. Good inertia control, controls feel intuitive. Good variety of objects to interact with gradually introduced.

Chickenarchy by Thomas_Bringer 2019-05-19T11:33:33Z

This is actually a fun game! I've gritted my teeth in determination as I decided to get the sword for the king if my life depended on it and almost done it. Having difficulty finding anyone who'd enjoy the wine and roaming the land with a cohort of 40+ chickens, suddenly I found myself (one of the chickens) teleported to that NPC. Maybe the game took pity :D Unfortunately, in the next step the knight tricked me and just killed all my chickens! Come to think of it, the game reminded me of Dizzy games I played few decades ago.

The game is minimalist, but quite enjoyable. Shopping list for the next release: - auto camera follow - few more bars of music, perhaps with an instrument or two in the background - hatching sound - player to initiate action (proximity triggered dialogues get player stuck)

What's great: - big world. Surprisingly big. - the characters make it look like there is a lot of content. - good the chickens find way (ignore collisions) when they are outside the view.

What's your lifetime value? by BlackLambert 2019-05-03T20:23:46Z

Great time management game. Squishing it all onto one screen would be good. Mouse scrolling through the list is quite slow, you can see the game was designed for touchscreen

utsvulten by ditto 2019-05-02T20:13:51Z

Wow, this is an unusual game. Definitely innovative, with consistent mood and, goes without saying, delightfully disturbing! :D Well done!
