LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Large Number Collider by Shigor 2022-04-05T20:14:11Z

I had to stop playing this game. It's just too addictive. 25 minutes in and with 1024, I realized just how long I was spending on this. It's really simple, but really addictive - a genuine improvement on 2048. The fact that I had to stop playing not because I was in danger of losing the game, but in danger of losing the rest of my day, says a lot.

Ball Boy's Cool Party by BrothersT 2022-04-05T21:11:11Z

Yknow, normally I avoid playing non-web builds, but the premise was too good to pass up. Definitely don't regret it! This was a fun little experience, and if you guys plan to expanding it, I'm interested in seeing where it goes.

Duck It! by Squidly 2022-04-06T01:32:22Z

I dont know if it was just my computer, but the build ran painfully slow - it was hard to do much of anything with the pace of the game. But the art's really impressive, and the narrative's cool! Fun dialogue and references as well.

Really solid game - was worrying I'd get into a loop of just being able to steamroll, but the random events always kept me on my toes. Not the most relevant to the theme, but I can see the inspiration.

Pizzabell emails keep ending my runs before i can finish them properly! But other than that, really clever game! Actually laughed at the prayer section and "vitality for my enemies."

1 Man 6 Bullets by Raphaeltan 2022-04-05T01:29:42Z

This game ROCKS! Tons and tons of fun, there's no other way to say it. The literal only downside I felt was that it was hard to initially tell which zombies were OHKO and which had armor, which would bounce bullets and which would pierce through. (this was very quickly fixed when i realized i was too busy being impressed to pay attention to what color the zombies were, whoops) But everything else is awesome! Multiple maps with fun angles, art and music fit the vibes perfectly... very interested in seeing where this goes!

*the only other downside is I can't seem to exit the web build (not that i want to)

The Inevitable Blast! by Martin183 2022-04-05T21:02:53Z

I'm gonna build upon some of the other feedback talking about the hose rotation - when flipping on the x axis, it's not necessarily a bad thing from a controls perspective, but rather from a balance perspective. Once I got the right angle for the hose, I never adjusted it again - I just flipped back and forth to hit each side. Couple minutes later and I have 300+ points and wasn't planning on losing soon. Also, having a limited water supply (refilled by the hydrant?) would probably be a good idea going forward, as right now you can just hold down I forever with your infinite water supply.

Stone Sabbath by Caladrius 2022-04-06T23:28:06Z

Aesthetics are really charming! That definitely includes the bgm as well. Hitboxes were a little wonky, but my main roadblock was a lack of direction. Exploring was fun enough at first, but there wasn't too much to find (outside of the easter egg behind the church!) so I kinda just got lost and tired after a little while.

The Hero (...Always Wins) by Link270 2022-04-06T00:52:08Z

Really fun idea! Wish there was a way to demolish towers - I totally frontloaded the map with wisp spawners that were pretty ineffective as time went on, so the gameplay was a little slow. Maybe a speed up button? Tower defense games are really gratifying when you can speed up the process and see your placement work really come into effect.

"Please rate this game for humor" well how am i supposed to say no to that?

The Root of All Evil by DV_company 2022-04-06T00:32:19Z

@reispfannenfresser we definitely get what you're saying (i have been known to do a little thinking myself, time to time) - we tried to lean into an arcade aesthetic where your goal is just for a high score, though we had to scrap our fancy arcade leaderboard towards the end..

Glad to hear you found the microecosystem part interesting! That's one of our favorite parts, the dynamic that's created by the expanding plant and spreading fire, and the player, platforming around both. Thanks for the feedback!

What, You APE? by PixelTaku 2022-04-06T00:07:42Z

Quite possibly the best use of the theme "delay the inevitable", and I say that 100% without bias. Great art, great humor, tone, etc... but the mechanics themselves could have been improved upon - they're lacking variety and while the challenge is fun, it's largely carried by the theming.

Crystal Castle by oneowerse 2022-04-06T14:26:06Z

Really solid puzzle game! I found it quite engaging to go through the levels once I fully understood how to play.

Can't Tax Me by SasquatchBStudios 2022-04-05T01:12:58Z

Solid game all around! My first try I didn't even break 30 until the last round, but after realizing the loop I went over 175 my second try. The powerups decrease in usefulness after the bomb, though - the second one can get stuck on the large ghosts, and I didnt find the pillars particularly effective. The whirlwind is good at a last ditch burst option, but it's incredibly likely to drop you at the bottom of the map - so bomb is just the best.

Speaking of what makes bomb the best, it's the enemies that are always just out of your reach, below the door platform. Ultimately, that's where my first main gripe lies - you *need* to use specials to hit these enemies. You can technically try climbing down and jumping from below, but you'll take too much damage - it almost feels like a two-player job. Building off this, it leads to my next point of contention - the map's massive. My first run was just exploring and endless wall jumping around - but more importantly, the map size de-incentivizes doing anything except standing by the door and placing bombs in the center. There's no chance you'll miss a jump and lose 5-10 seconds, and those are seconds you can't get back. Going back to my first, embarrassingly short run - there's also a lot of snowballing (positive and negative). If you don't unlock the bomb in the first round, you're gonna have a bad time - you just can't kill the enemies effectively. If you do unlock the bomb, though, I managed to get to reputation level like, 85+ in the second round alone.

Overall it was definitely engaging - but I personally think it encourages camping a little too much for it's own good.

Nuts and Volts by MeeseAgainstHumanity 2022-04-05T01:41:47Z

Pretty fun game, but didn't see much connection to the theme. I wanted the green lasers to light up the area a little more, and I found myself rolling into danger more often than out of it - because movement options are fun.

Volcanic Dash by tested 2022-04-06T00:20:15Z

Solid game, loved the splash image at the start and like others have said, the camera angle/framing makes things a little more interesting. Nice visual effects with the torches, as well. Rising-lava levels are an interesting take on the theme, and good work for your first jam!

Guardian of the Sand by EverythingIsBacon 2022-04-05T01:22:56Z

got over 5 minutes! seems like rebuilding the main castle is near useless bc of the time commitment, and the optimal strat is to spam pillars at the bottom of the screen? not too sure. solid game but a little too repetitive and i found myself getting tired of the loop a few minutes in.
